The key to enjoying O'Keefe's is to leave behind any expectations around ambiance and fancy frills. But it's a damn good, old school bar, with excellent drinks, happy hour deals, and surprisingly good food. This used to be my go-to happy hour spot when I worked in the area, and it took me months before I even knew it was called O'Keefe's because there's no signage. Whatever signs exist are there to advertise the available drinks, happy hour deals, and daily specials. That, and TV screens in every corner (most plugged into the sports channels). But don't let that fool you into thinking this is some gruff and dirty hole in the wall. Drinks are reliably good and the bartenders really know what they're doing around cocktails. Service has always been prompt, even when they're at their busiest. Best of all, whoever's in the kitchen needs some serious props because they elevate bar food to a whole new level. I've ordered wings nearly every time I've come, and you know they're good when all conversation 'round the table pivots to some version of 'How good are these wings?!' The honey garlic is easily my favorite, but I've never had a bad flavor. It seems silly to praise a bar for their fries, but they're excellent here too - starchy, screaming hot from the fryer, and perfectly salted. That said, ignore the healthier options. A Caesar salad came with just a handful of croutons and an absolute deluge of dressing that rendered the lettuce underneath nearly inedible. The space inside is larger than it looks outside. The front area has plenty of high tables and seating by the bar, while there are lower two- and four-tops towards the back (where the air conditioning is a little better felt since they tend to keep the windows and doors wide open by the entrance). There's also a second floor space, but I've never ventured up since I've always managed to find seating below.

We love that this spot opens until 2am daily, which leaves you with little options in the neighborhood. We came in for a late night bite and drinks. The AC was also blasting, which was much needed on a hot summer night. We had a few rounds of drinks ($9-10), which was reasonably priced and bartender was great about checking in. For food, we ordered the 10pcs Medium Wings ($14), Onion Rings ($8), and Mac & Cheese ($8.95). The mac and cheese was kind of petite and the wings were a bit on the tougher side, but sauce was good. The thing I loved here was the onion rings, which came in a huge basket. They were super crispy yet easy to bite into without losing the entire onion inside (iykyk). This will probably become one of our regular late night spots, especially for these onion rings!

Standard bar, the wings were ok not as crispy as other places make the wings. Ordered a margarita, it was a little too sour

This place is open! Really just a bar for me on this trip but it's open. Say it again. OPEN. Update Yelp. Not closed

Do they have wifi?

yes just ask the bartender 😀

Is there any dress code?

Nope! Casual vibes.

Yes they do. I don't remember how extensive their liquor is, but I did enjoy some Jameson while relaxing in there.

Not much but enough to make you sweat. Very close to the Barclays center, walking distance. Highly recommend stopping in before an event or for their upstairs beer garden.

And the bathroom sign saying they'll hate me if I break a glass because I leave it on the sink. It's the little things. 6. Trivia on Wednesdays. 7. Homemade fireball? 9.5/10 for the vibe, ambiance, and service -- and a full 10/10 for the food…read more I'm not a picky eater, but I've had some really disappointing oxtail lately, so I was hoping for the best here. I'm Dominican so I know oxtail pretty well and have made it myself. Thankfully, this place absolutely delivered. The oxtail was perfectly slow-braised, tender, and falling right off the bone -- exactly how it should be. Absolutely amazing. Of course I had the rice and peas, plus some veggies. A few of the veggies were slightly overcooked, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The drinks looked incredible, but I went with the rum punch and loved it. It was a little sweet, but super flavorful, strong, and definitely worth ordering again. For dessert, I had the Hennessy cheesecake, which was rich, decadent, and unbelievably delicious. There were three of us dining, and we all left completely satisfied -- with take-home containers because the portions are VERY generous. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that our server seemed to focus most of her attention on my friend. She is Jamaican, and because I look like a white American woman, I felt a little overlooked at times, even when I had several requests myself. We also had to look for her a couple of times while she was sitting with a group nearby. That said, everyone overall was very nice and welcoming. The bussers especially stood out -- they checked on us often, kept everything clean, and even greeted me in Spanish, which I appreciated. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back with more people next time.

For my hubby, Brooklyn is home - and we always love exploring the new places the city has to offer when we visit. We had reservations, and were seated within 10 minutes, which was reasonable. The place was packed - everyone was in high spirits, and I was ready to taste some of the best Caribbean cuisine in the region. My hubby's best friend - a Brooklyn resident, joined us. He had been to the restaurant a few times - and had good things to say. We were not disappointed. I had the Brown Stew Red Snapper - *chef's kiss*. Hubby had the iconic Jerk Oxtail over Macaroni & Cheese Pie! The English language cannot convey the beauty of that combination! Tender, tender oxtail, falling off the bone with the creamy, cheesy mac & cheese! He wanted to savor that dish another day, so he got a to-go bag and took it back to the hotel! (I couldn't help but clean my plate - I was obsessed with the fish!) Our friend enjoyed the Hennessy Fried Shrimp (not pictured) - one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant. It looked delicious as well. For drinks, I had the Bob Marley cocktail. A colorful drink - flavorful - and effective! There were people celebrating their birthdays throughout the night - and the wait staff goes IN! I was enjoying watching at least 10 people receive the Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" song while we were there. Imagine my surprise when it was my turn! My birthday was the day before, and we had already celebrated in Manhattan. Having two special recognition events made the evening that much more special! Shout out to the Simpson crew who came with the song, the rhythm, the sparkling cake, and the good vibes! My 70th birthday was exceptional - without a doubt. The Simpson added the touch I needed. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Brooklyn!

As someone who has come to this bar regularly to watch Knicks playoff games, I can confidently say…read moreI will never return after what happened during the NBA Finals last night. What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Let's Go Knicks

Located on Atlantic Avenue, the space itself is deceptively large. Upon entry, you are greeted by an L shaped bar, with high tops on the left, a booth in the front, and then several booths and tables in the back. There is a TV, but rather than sports like you'd see at most dive bars, there is usually a movie on. There is also a backyard to the bar, which is lovely in the summertime. As you'd expect, you order everything at the bar, food included, and there is no waiter service aside from the staff running your food to your table. There is a reasonable collection of draft beers, focusing on somewhat higher end beers rather the standard collection of macro brews. Additionally there are a handful of cocktails, and a few drink specials (I often take advantage of the shot and beer combo). The drink selection is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. There's also a food menu, including burgers, a hot dog, chicken wings and other bar staples. Overall the food is surprisingly good. I'm quite fond of the spicy smash burger, and the wings are pretty good as well. So far I don't think I've had anything that is poorly made, and they seem to put a bit more effort in to the food than other bars. What really sets the Hollow Nickel apart to me is the service. The bartenders are friendly, and help foster a community feeling in the bar. If you find yourself a regular, a nod and a smile will have your usual drink prepared quickly. The other patrons are usually pretty friendly, and it's not uncommon for me to find myself chatting with other people at the bar when I come for a drink on my own. I'm not quite sure what they've done, but the Hollow Nickel is just a nice place to be filled with generally nice people. If you want a drink and maybe some food, the Hollow Nickel won't do you wrong. It's exactly the type of bar you like to know is an option.
