Great Ale House on Henry St in Brooklyn Heights. Cozy atmosphere reminding me of a traditional English pub, with a substantial selection of international beers on tap and as cans, and a typical pub menu. Portions are large and the service was friendly & quick. It was great on a Saturday afternoon. They had the game going on the back. The vibes were nice and relaxing. No frills. Our server looked like the owner. Very cool, older bar off the beaten path in Brooklyn. Not a lot of other bars in this area. Came in early Saturday afternoon, and it was not crowded at all, just a couple of guys having lunch. The food looked good. We were just there to get out of the cold and have a couple of beers. No frills here. Very casual, laid-back setting. One guy behind the bar. Looked like the owner. So I'm on my way home after the gym and decide to go over the Brooklyn Bridge. Once over the River I take a detour to Brooklyn Heights. Looking around the old neighborhood. I pass by this place and luckily find a treasured spot So I decide to park and go in for early dinner. Outside I meet Minnow a beautiful dog. A Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, a striking animal with light brown eyes that match her mane. The rest of her body is Sandy haired black and light grey. We hit it right off and I offer to buy her a martini, but her owner says she already had her limit! Ha Once inside I order a glass of pino noir. Which the waiter Eugene says is his favorite Peter the bartender comes over with the wine and I order the roast beef sandwich with caramelized onions and mushrooms. I also get a side order of French fries. It comes quickly and looks delicious. I dig in. It's great! Eugene is very attentive, coming over asking if I need anything. No all is great Wine. Stopped by over the weekend and had an okay experience. It was around 7pm and the kitchen was already closed. I don't remember if the waiter said something was wrong but it was unfortunate. The staff allowed you to bring food from elsewhere inside though. The service was extremely slow (wasn't busy) and the waiter was very confused about our simple drink orders. First drink was made wrong but I still finished and when I asked for a second round I reminded him what the order was and it still came out wrong. The staff was overly welcoming and accommodating. Turned the game on any TV we wanted and offered up any open seats. While in Brooklyn I was riding around with my friend looking for parking to go to the park and ended up in front of this spot. We decided to get a drink while here and was served by Micho. He was a cool dude and was attentive. My friend ordered one of their beers and they had many to choose from and I ordered a pinot nior. My friend also had cheese fries. The pinot nior wasn't bad at all. My friend enjoyed the cheese fries and the beer. The bill was about $32. All in all we had a good experience. read more

If you're not interested in reading the full review, here's the long story short - this isn't a place you go for fancy cocktails and cuisine, this is the spot you go to grab cheap drinks with friends and hang out. In the nicest way possible, it's a hole in the wall where the bar tender is not likely to shoot you a smile. That being said, I think it's a solid spot with a good beer selection and I would definitely go back. When we got there the outdoor tables near heaters were all full still so we sat a table on the sidewalk. The guy taking orders and serving (I assume he may actually be the owner) told us he would move us to a heater area when it became available. About 5-10 minutes later, he came back over and grabbed the drinks we already had to move us to the bar top that had a heater. Really courteous. He also takes COVID precautions seriously, my friend ran inside to use the rest room and he followed the protocol with taking temp and his information down. Really just a solid, pub style bar. Good tap list and bottle inventory. I appreciate the proper glassware. Menu is standard bar food but good quality (you could tell the food wasn't just frozen and reheated) and great price (particularly for the area). The fried pickles and chicken fingers were good. He got my friend a side of blue cheese with no hesitation. Just a chill, no frills spot that I would definitely recommend. Looking forward to going here when it's open indoors again, this could easily be your local watering hole if you lived or worked in the area. read more

Due to my boyfriend's love of fries, I decided to bring him here after discovering this restaurant through a friend. It also wasn't worth it. Not just him, but I also find their spice and flavor to be strange. The added sauce didn't go well with the tasteless and mushy fries. I also purchased the buffalo wings, which are utterly tough. It was CHEWY MEAT. We don't want to waste food. Therefore my partner only managed to do so out of respect for me ( and just not to throw it). You could, in all honesty, make nicer fries at home. I kinda like this place. I've always found the bartenders friendly and generous. The place has a really cool old style decor and ambience. One of the bartenders is on the surly side, but I find that kinda fun. I've not eaten the food, but whenever I've been here, the aroma is pretty inviting. In silent acquiescence, she rose to her feet to place my food order and attain my wine without further ado - without a smile, without any life in her eyes. Quality of food is MEH. When inquiring for drink suggestions I was informed we have a full bar, okay in hopes of ordering a frozen drink Henry Street does not have a blender ergo why laid the claim "we have a full bar"?! False and misleading information. They do offer a small selection of brew beers. Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages (Rhône Valley, France) $11.00 - subtle finish for red. I did not taste any oak. Henry Street's wine glass contains a sharp inside curved ream, perhaps, to prevent spillage. Caramelized Pecan Brioche bread pudding $7.95 - dessert from the daily Special was very heavy, rich swimming in caramel, ergo, I did not finish. There is no shortage of pecan nuts embedded within either. Caramel is a dentist worst nightmare to create immense dental damage. I was not offered a glass of water upon being seated. It does not appear that other dessert(s) were available either as a daily special or listed on their food menu. Basic bar located on a stretch of eateries for the after work crowd. Saturday afternoon, plenty of room inside this dimly lit place both at the bar and at the tables. Large draft list is written on the chalkboard at the back of the bar, so quickly was able to order an IPA ($7) to go along with some Nachos w/Guac ($15) to start. Nachos are your standard fare - a big pile of chips topped with cheese, peppers, sour cream, guacamole ($ extra), tomatoes, and greens. Cheese could have been better but the cream and guac made up for it. For the main course, ordered a Pulled Pork Sandwich ($14); a meaty serving swimming in BBQ sauce, barely staying inside the bun. Fries that come alongside are seasoned well and seemingly handcut. Overall the food was above average, the draft list is excellent, and the service is quality. She recommended the jalapeno poppers. The poppers were great, served with a huge dollop of sour cream and a small bowl of buffalo sauce. Great! The wings were good, meaty, with a subtle spiciness. I subbed the blue cheese for ranch and that made me happy. Also used leftover buffalo sauce from the poppers to add additional flavor. Paired my meal with a Fullers ESB, very tasty. Change in ownership huge decline in service and food. They used to have such good food! It was a huge disappointment to try the new menu and be so disappointed. The old chicken burrito and tortilla soup here was amazing. The chicken burrito now is much smaller. It's no longer served wet. And it's very bland. The service has also declined tremendously. I can't tell you the number of times the bartender walked by our empty glasses without offering a refill. It was bad. But to really put the bad service over the top our bartender decided to "give us a little splash." That is instead of a typical buy back where a bartender gets a round for you, he took our glasses and half filled them. It was ridiculous. I'm super bummed because this has been one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood. The old bartender Pete was fantastic. Another great bar bites the dust. read more

Pretty nondescript place with an excellent beer selection and an awesome bartender. Very spacious and dark bar area, with a long, L-shaped bar, a few tables, and not much else, really. The pressed tin ceiling is the only decor element that is worth mentioning. Here are the beers I tried: -Victory Brewing HopDevil (6.7% ABV): Rich, amber color, very hoppy but very smooth as well; not too bitter. Definitely for hop/IPA lovers. -Sixpoint Sweet Action (5.2% ABV): Wonderful hazy, amber/apricot color. Malty and slightly floral taste, with mild sweetness. Very easy on the palate; very drinkable. This is one of my favorite beers ever. -Youngs Double Chocolate Stout (5.2% ABV): The star of the night! Rich and incredibly smooth, with a creamy finish. More coffee than chocolate on the palate. Silky dessert in a glass; a real beauty. The bartender was fantastic: the kind of nonintrusive bartender that keeps an eye on you, but never bothers you unless you need a refill; that will give you an excellent suggestion if you don't know what to drink; and that will not start a conversation unless you initiate it. My kind of bartender. A good place to catch up with a friend. After enjoying the an event nearby me and my friends really wanted to grab some good food as everbody was starving. As one of my friends had eaten before at Henry's so we all decided to check this place out. It was a sunday evening and this place was packed though we were easily able to get table us(we were 6 of us). This place has an amazing selection when it comes to beer. Though I didn't order any drinks but my friends loved thier drinks. So for food I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and my friends ordered the turkey club, stuffed potato skins, Grilled veggie burrito and grilled buffalo chicken sandwich. My pulled pork sandwich was really flavorfull and tasty and even potato skins were nice. Everybody like the food except the turkey sandwich which was dry and bland. Love this bar. When I lived in Brooklyn, this was a regular place for me, usually coming once every other week. Unfortunately I moved out to New Jersey which makes it a little more difficult to drop by since it's an extra subway ride, but I still do try to come here every couple months. The ale house is super easy to get to, it's literally a block away from the High Street subway station on the A and C lines. They do a pretty good job managing the seats at the bar so you always have a place to sit when you walk in. The beer mix is an eclectic one- but I say that in a good way. I normally consider myself fairly well educated with beers, but I often find ones here that I've never heard of. The food here is definitely a notch above your regular bar grub. The chicken pot pie is enormous, and there's always a few daily specials worth checking out. Wish the owner of this place would consider opening another location closer to where I live. The place has definitely grown on me since I wrote my original review a while back. read more

I'm glad this ale house is near our place in Brooklyn because it's an amazing neighborhood bar that is just a few paces away from home. I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll be visiting this place frequently once we're settled in! On our first visit, we just ordered appetizers because we were scheduled to eat dinner later with friends. From the appetizer menu, we selected the chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, which were both top-of-the-line for bar food and priced very reasonably ($6.95 for the chicken fingers and $5.50 for the mozzarella sticks). As for drinks, Vinny and I both ordered a Wild Turkey on the rocks, and, as I hoped, the bartender wasn't stingy with his pours! That's always a plus!! The atmosphere of Henry Street Ale House is pub-like--there's a long bar with wooden tables and chair spaced across from the bar... nothing fancy, but that's not what this modest, unpretentious neighborhood bar and grill is all about. read more

My favorite local spot for a quick bite after work. It's usually not crowded which is to my liking (although it deserves better). The tap menu is always changing which makes it exciting! On the food menu the burger is my favorite. Outside of that almost everything else on the menu I've tried has been delicious. The bar tenders here are usually really really attentive and are really ON their game! On the more critical side, I wish that there were more full pint pours for all IPAs since they hardly carry high abv brews (9% and beyond). I'd also like to see a stronger stouts and porters. Just came in with friends I just met from Educational Housing Services. Ordered the Stuffed Potato Skins and they were incredible. Great flavor, lots of cheese, sour cream and bacon. Very filling and great prices for all the appetizers. Really enjoyed the potatoes and the atmosphere was pretty cool. Dim lighting, bar, tvs and great company.
