This is hands down one of my favorite places to go for sushi and yap. They have 1/2 off bottles of wine on Sundays and the best crispy rice in town. Emma was our server today, and she did an incredible job despite the restaurant being understaffed. She remained kind, attentive, and professional throughout the entire experience, making sure we had everything we needed while clearly juggling a lot at once. It was a little hard to find because my GPS kept trying to take me to the Interlock, but it is located a little bit beyond there in the next plaza. $5 valet which I appreciated because parking stresses me out. I was seated promptly upon arrival because we had reservations. The environment was very beautiful and classy. They also have a heated rooftop, but we opted to eat downstairs. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to make recommendations for both of our first time trying sake. We ended up getting the Blossom of Peace which was sweet and reminiscent of a wine, super good and I would 100% order it again. Their menu is very unique which made it difficult to choose what to eat! I ended up getting the Marbled Forest and Soft Shell Crab roll. My companion ended up trying the Salmon Belly nigiri and a few others. The salmon belly was the stand out since it was ordered again and the only one I remembered :D. Both rolls were delicious and the fish was fresh and melting in your mouth. Each roll had its own flavor profile that I have never had anywhere else with one ingredient that really sets it apart. I love love love love o-ku! We have one in DC and when I saw there was a location in ATL, it was a no brainer where to go with colleagues. Came for a work event and usually the gang wants steaks, boringgg! So some of us skipped and got sushi instead. Wow what an amazing meal!!! Can I tell you everything we had? Not really, sorry. Our waitress was superb and ordered things for us, based off of what we liked. Started with some chicken, nice! Edamame, can never go wrong. We even upgraded to the truffle one. Yum! And the sushi was unreal!!!! The quality is top notch. So fresh, so flavorful, so unique. I'm salivating just thinking about everything we had. The drinks were also so good! We were seated right away with a reservation and experienced friendly service. Unfortunately, I thought the food was underwhelming and overpriced. The miso soup was so salty that it was hard to finish. The lobster temaki were basically handrolls with cooked lobster and asparagus. The seaweed was impossible to bite through and the flavor combo was not it. We were recommended to try the box sushi as it was their specialty which was bland and mostly rice. Beyond being on top of all things gluten free, Tiffany anticipated needs and was ready to answer questions and find answers quickly. The meal itself was delicious. When a portion of our meal was delivered missing a topping, management arrived in nearly the same breath with a couple of small dishes from the kitchen to hold us over while the dish was remade. My son & i are huge sushi fans! We had a valentine date night last night & we both agreed that it was so fresh tasting & yummy! We loved the octopus roll & the tachi was our favorite! The dessert donuts were to die for!! Melted in your mouth after every bit/ caramel sauce was a perfect add on. We also received compliments milk chocolate hearts which was awesome & so good. Good vibes, yummy food. We sat at the "bar" bar, a good relatively quiet place to talk (at least the night we were there.) They did have a sushi bar, but I don't think anyone was sitting there. But we had excellent service, quick yummy drinks, and sushi rolls came out pretty quick and the fish was super fresh and yummy. I was surprised that there were multiple tables with younger kids and that it was so kid friendly without being obnoxious or loud. We ordered a bunch of food that was all delicious. I highly recommend everything we ordered: Rock shrimp tempura Crispy rice Soft shell spider Baja California They also were really accommodating in making modifications to make certain options more kid friendly. My 5 yr old is still talking about the salmon filet. Only downside, the valet is horrible. Very awkward and terribly managed. I came to O-Ku for a birthday dinner with one of my friends in February 2022. We came here with a reservation. The restaurant was not busy at all, with a lot of tables open. It is a spacious restaurant and can probably fit a whole private event! They have valet parking behind the restaurant, but you can also choose to park in the Westside Ironworks garage down the road. Again, I forgot what exactly we ordered - but pictures are two of the rolls. We also got some sushi that we individually were interested in. The Menu has changed since their renovation in January. The lobster and salmon temaki order now only comes with 1 in the order and not 2 for the same price like they used to. It's always exciting to try something new for Date Night and this dimly lit restaurant did not disappoint. I was headed to a venue behind it but that location was closed for a private event but good thing this resturant valet was at the same location- a quick pivot and we were in. Not having reservations only left bar seating as our option which is a "win" for us as we love conversation at the bar and watching cocktail prep. But which bar? Sushi or cocktails?! This resturant had a bar that wrapped from the cocktails to the sushi area(I'm sure cool to watch too) but we selected the cocktails. The bar was very dim making reading the menu difficult without the phone flashlight. That is NOT sexy lol ... I disliked shining the flashlight at the bar but saw that I was not alone as a neighboring couple did the same. My drink, the Myiokia was wonderfully refreshing and I highly recommend it. Most of the drink are average in price for the area, although they are $1-3 more than most other locations. There is a $35 Old Fashioned, which surprisingly my husband did not try- he ordered a regular Old Fashioned stating the other price was too high for a drink. The food overall was well prepared, tasty( sooo many Sushi options!) I ate Miso Salmon which was made perfectly. I had a few disappointments which is why I rated 3 stars. 1) My tempura shrimp were soggy and when I told the waiter he stated "sometimes that happens when it sits awhile before its served" YUCK! No one wants to hear their food was sitting "awhile" and also Tempura should never be soggy. Nor was there any apology... And, 2) Either add more lighting or remove some items from the menu to enlarge the print. 3)Some portions are very small such as the Scallop Entre. I was very excited to stop by at O-Ku. I had an elaborate spread during this visit and really got a chance to experience a lot of different dishes. First and foremost, the decor was really nice, I enjoyed the color palette that was used, from the different oaks to the lavender upholstery on the furniture there. The restaurant absolutely gave a Japanese vibe, I also love the huge mural they had as soon as you walk in. Our server was really amazing. He gave us a quick rundown of what the seasonal options were on the menu as well as gave his personal suggestions. During the meal, he even gave complimentary dishes! I wish I could remember his name and shout him out, but he was great. Finally, the food, wow this was some of the best sushi I've had in a while. I make it a point to try something new every time I go to a restaurant, I would hate to shrimp tempura myself to death every time, lol. My favorite dish was the "Mt. Fuji" roll as well as the "Crispy rice", but everything there was so good again, I was lucky to have a bunch of different items and please believe the pictures do not do them justice. I'm really glad that there is a sushi restaurant because we need some choices between everything and Barcelona! Anyway, I really like the vibe of the place. Inside is more plush and sultry for date night or celebrations with heels, but that's just my opinion! We really liked it here, had no idea there was a happy hour. Some of the appetizers and five of the sushi rolls are discounted during happy hour from 5 to 7 Monday to Friday. We ordered the shrimp appetizer along with the salmon and both were really yummy. We really enjoyed our sushi, it didn't blow my mind but it definitely a good option. Price point was affordable, for both of us it was less than $50 for the meal and we didn't order any drinks. The service was great, I wish I remembered our service name, but they were nice enough to queue us into the happy hour. Nestled in west side, the location of the restaurant is definitely in one of the most vibrant parts of the city. The restaurant itself is upscale with a classy decor. The cocktail menu is pretty great with several different choices all of which are spectacular. The food, however, is not memorable at all. Both the times I have ordered various appetizers and sushi rolls. Well, the appetizers were OK. The sushi rolls remained a disappointment- some overtly salty where you feel like you put a ball of salt in your mouth or just plain underseasoned. If the chef taste the food before, sending it out, it will save the customers from having this widely varying seasoning. The ambience is otherwise great. Staff attentive and very kind. I swapped out a Black Magic roll with my friend and I LOVED that squid ink rice... sooo good. For apps we had the Karage tempura cauliflower and the shishito peppers. The Karage is delicious but it is very filling due to the large portion sizes. I would skip the Shishito, it was very bland, little flavor, they are over roasted causing them to taste puffy and limp... for $11 its absolutely not worth it. The restaurant has a dark lit romantic ambiance ... good for couples, friends, and small families (its a tight space). When you pull into the restaurant the space is shared by several restaurants so parking is limited. Valet is free because they only take tips, I used cash app and paid a $.50 surcharge on my $5 tip.
