I was told that this was a wonderful place. You must use the valet service. The service here is spectacular. Waiter recommended the Lobster fried rice so that is what I got. The lobster was a little chewy and fried hard. The green side was crispy but cooler than room temperature. The food tasted food but not worth the hype. Next time, I will grab a drink and order something different.

Poor Calvins was okay. I wasn't wowed by my food but the experience was nice and the food was good for what it was. I opted for one of their specials which was a lamb meatloaf w/ gravy ontop and it came with a lobster tail and mashed potatoes for $55. The meatloaf seem to have more filler in it and I could barely taste the lamb. The sauce ontop was okay. The mashed potatoes were bland. The best thing was the lobster tail. I got the suspension cake which was highly raved about according to the reviews. It was good but not the best dessert I've ever had. It's a HUGE slice of cake so if you order it, share it with others or take it home. I split it between the 3 of us and we still couldn't finish it. Service was great and the host was kind enough to save me a table. They get BUSY the moment they open the door, so if you don't have reservations, get there 15 minutes prior to opening. It's hard to get in there. Would I'd come back? Eh. I can't say that I was that impressed or curious enough to try anything else. It is a bit pricey but not so unaffordable.. come check l it out for yourself.

The food...superb! Customer service...outstanding. Ambience...top-tier. Poor Calvin's will definitely be a staple every time I visit Atlanta. And Ariel? She deserves a raise ASAP...truly a breath of fresh air. Her energy, attentiveness, and warmth took the entire experience to the next level. Highly, highly recommend!

I've been eyeing this place since I started traveling to ATL and I'm so happy I finally got to try this gem! The menu is so creative and fuses Asian and southern flavors so well and beautifully. We shared all the dishes and ordered the seafood spring rolls, lobster crawfish wontons, crab beignets, and the seafood curry. All of the dishes were so flavorful - the spring rolls were completely stuffed with all types of seafood and the sauce was a perfect pairing. The lobster crawfish wontons were creative and had huge chunks of crawfish inside... yum. The beignets were savory and paired so well with the pimento crab dip... so creative! The seafood curry was nothing like I've ever tasted - it was a mix of all types of curry flavors and included collard greens as part of the many vegetables and perfectly cooked seafood. It was an amazing dish and I highly recommend it. Ariel was the best waitstaff and she helped us pick all of our dishes and had wonderful recommendations and was super accommodating. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cute spot with delicious food and cocktails. I'll be back soon!

I can't wait to be visit again. The service was 10000/10, all the servers were very knowledgeable about the business. The scenery was beautiful and welcoming. The food was soooo good. Everything had a lot of flavor and wasn't too big of a portion.

Had a wonderful Sunday dinner here! Big shoutout to Joe Joe, who was attentive and gave perfect recommendations. The Hits: Lobster Crawfish Wontons, Lobster Fried Rice, and the Nirvana Nectar cocktail. Everything was incredibly flavorful. The Miss: The Lobster Mac N Cheese wasn't for us. Reliable valet parking and a great atmosphere for a girls' night. Glad to see this spot is still going strong!

I liked Poor Calvin's! The food was very different , it was an Asian Twist with a little soul . I ordered the seafood curry , that was so good and they didn't skimp on the seafood. It was a curry broth that was slightly spicy and sweet. The seafood was so good that they added snd they added jumbo shrimp. The lamb was very good as well. We also ordered a cake, it was red velvet, with a cream in the middle. They also had strawberry, cocoa chunks and the bubble tea balls things in it. Although it was a very different cake, it actually was good!

Poor Calvin's has been around for years! Thst should let you know how good the food is. We started a variety of appetizers (sea bass, calamari, and sea food egg rolls. All were delish! Our entrees were also really good. We had lobster fried rice, fried chicken with lobster Mac and cheese and collards, lobster pad Thai. I highly recommend the sea bass as an appetizer it was really good! Our server was David and he was extremely good with our party. The ambiance is always a vibe there. It's a small place but always packed-which is a good thing. They offer valet parking or you can park around the corner and walk to it. Not far of a walk at all. Food 10 Service 10 Ambiance 10

I often get nervous when a place has so much hype. I find myself doubting the praise like it's disingenuous bootlicking. HOWEVER. I am happy to report that Poor Calvin's is absolutely worth the hype (and that nothing tasted of said boot!) This is a special occasion kind of dining experience. I'm not just saying that because of the price tag. I'm saying it because the menu is beautifully sparse - they don't overwhelm you with ingredients and options that are too similar to each other. Calvin's staff EXPERTLY walks you through their offerings with beautiful descriptions of palates and flare. Shout out to Linda, who was more culinary concierge than waiter!! We really enjoyed the pork belly eggs and the lobster Mac (which be warned LIT me up). But the real standouts were the wontons and the fried rice. The wontons are served with a trio of sauces that are so unexpected and perfectly harmonious! Red berry. Mango. Balsamic truffle. Like... WHAAAAAT?! Absolutely amazing. The fried rice was so decadent - chock full of seafood and veggies - and you know how most fried rice requires a healthy dash of soy or some sauce to moisten it up? NOT THIS ONE. I don't know what voodoo Calvin is using but holy crab it was moist and ridiculous. Would I recommend? 10/10 absolutely Will I go back? Yes, and can't wait!

I had heard of this spot in certain circles and happened upon it a few nights ago. First, walking into the restaurant was a vibe in itself. We were greeted as if the staff was excited to see us. The restaurant's vibe and decor was interesting, creating a unique atmosphere. Our waitress was did an amazing job of explaining the menu and making sure we knew the chef's creations. I had the Pork Belly Yum Yum Rice and it was delicious. I can't wait to go back here because I want to try some of the other dishes on the menu. Poor Calvin's is a sure fire HIT!!!

From the moment we walked in, the tone was set--the host was warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Then came Zubair (hope I'm spelling that right!), who completely elevated the entire evening. His service wasn't just good, it was next-level. He struck that perfect balance of fun and professional, knew the menu inside and out, and guided us with spot-on recommendations. The Crispy Beef paired with the Lobster Fried Rice was a *chef's kiss* combination we wouldn't have discovered without him. He also had an incredible sense for timing--my water (with ice, because priorities) never once ran out. It's rare to find service that feels this effortless yet so intentional. I've dined at a lot of restaurants, and this easily ranks among the best service experiences I've ever had. And the food? Absolutely flawless. The Lobster Crawfish Wontons were unreal--the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite, close your eyes, and just exist in the flavor for a second. Every element came together beautifully. The Lobster Fried Rice was just as impressive, both in taste and presentation--visually stunning and packed with flavor. Truly an A+ experience from start to finish. If I lived closer, this would be in heavy rotation without question.

A Longtime Favorite in Atlanta: Poor Calvin's I realized this is a long overdue review for Poor Calvin's because this place has been part of my Atlanta dining rotation for years. The first time I went had to be around 2016 or 2017 when I was working for Revolution Foods out of Oakland and attending a conference in Atlanta. I found Poor Calvin's on OpenTable, took a few colleagues, and wow--what a find. Since then, every single time I'm back in Atlanta, I try to book a table. And these days, that's easier said than done because this place is wildly popular--and for good reason. Atlanta's food scene is serious, and Poor Calvin's absolutely holds its own. I feel like I've eaten and drank my way through most of the menu over the years, especially the seafood dishes and the shareable plates. The quality and presentation are always on point. The lobster fried rice may sound simple, but trust me--it is anything but. It's one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the trip is over. Yes, it is on the pricier side, so I'll be honest about that. But everything I've had there has been worth it. When we go, we take our time. We order in courses. We enjoy the experience. They have a full bar, and the cocktails are just as creative as the food. The restaurant itself feels like dining inside a beautifully reimagined house, with separate rooms, whimsical décor, and a warm, lively energy. The staff are knowledgeable and professional--the kind of people who make hospitality feel like a career, not just a job. That always stands out to me. I also love the outdoor patio in the evenings. It's a great spot to relax, especially when the weather is nice. And practical note: there is private parking available, including an overflow lot with security, which is a big plus in that part of town. One time I asked where the name came from, and they told me Calvin used to joke, "Poor Calvin never has a day off." That made me smile--and honestly, it shows. The consistency, the creativity, and the energy are all still there. Bottom line: if you're in Atlanta, especially near the Piedmont area, make the reservation. Plan ahead, bring your appetite, and enjoy the experience. I know I'll keep coming back. Get out there and eat your way through the world--there are a lot of good things waiting for you.

As a Vietnamese American, I truly loved the combination of flavors I experienced at Poor Calvin's. We got several of the appetizers to split and that was more than enough for us at our table. The Shaky Garlic Shrimp was one of the best dishes I've had in Atlanta! So much so that we ordered a second order of the Shrimp! They have complimentary valet and I recommend making a reservation before arriving. The staff was great and the place is nice to have a conversation.

Starting with the service, it was honestly amazing from the door to the table to the bar. Everyone I came in contact with was very hospitable and made our experience great. However, the food was underwhelming. We ordered every single appetizer that our server suggested. I will give them. The appetizers are good with notable mentions for the tuna spoons, the oxtail, spring rolls, and the dumplings. The entrées, though were not my favorite. The filet mignon is more of a beef and broccoli situation and although we knew that it easily gave me a higher end mall Chinese food. The fried rice was extremely dry. We had the lobster and the shrimp. The lobster fried rice had little tomato no lobster in it and for the price it was disappointing. We also got chicken lo mein which probably was the best entrée we had. I will say the drinks are amazing if I had to choose I would probably go back and just get drinks and appetizers. One note for the restaurant, we had the spare ribs which were extremely red on the inside and had a very tangy taste, and unfortunately everyone at my table that had it the next day was running to the restroom. That was the only common denominator we could find. Our food did come out in a timely manner however, some of it was lukewarm, it gives they may make them in batch and bring them out. They came out before our drink. It is very aesthetically pleasing in here. I will give them that. We went on a Friday night and the music was amazing. Good R&B hits!

I finally had the chance to check out Lo Kee for some Asian fusion cuisine, and overall, it was a…read moresolid dining experience with a few standout moments along the way. One thing that immediately stood out was the service. Our waitress, Ashara, was incredibly personable and brought a lot of positive energy to the table. Sometimes a great server can elevate an entire meal, and she definitely helped make the experience more enjoyable. I will say that visiting during the day gave me a very different impression than what I expected based on all the dinner-time highlight videos I've seen online. The space is still nice, but it felt much more relaxed and understated during lunch service than the vibrant atmosphere I had imagined. We started with the wonton soup (6/10), which was exactly what I wanted it to be. The dumplings were tender, the broth was comforting, and it reminded me of the kind of wonton soup you'd happily order from a favorite local Asian restaurant. Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid and satisfying start. Next were the short rib bao buns (4/10). This appetizer comes with three pieces and was probably the most interesting dish we ordered. The short rib itself was very tender, but the overall flavor profile leaned sweeter than I expected. The addition of apple brought a nice textural contrast, but it also pushed the sweetness even further. I found myself wishing for a little spice or acidity to help balance everything out. It was a decent starter for the table, but not something I'd rush back for. For drinks, we tried the yuzu margarita and the lychee martini. The yuzu margarita (8/10) was bright and refreshing, while the lychee martini (7/10) was surprisingly unique. Made with coconut cream, it had a rich, almost milkshake-like quality that made it feel very different from the typical lychee martinis I've had before. Definitely an interesting and enjoyable drink. For entrées, I opted for the sea bass (7/10), which ended up being a nice choice given how many of the other menu items leaned heavier. The fish was cooked well and stayed light and delicate throughout. The bok choy wasn't particularly seasoned on its own, but it paired nicely with the sea bass and helped keep the dish balanced. We also ordered the filet mignon with broccoli (8/10), and honestly, this was one of the stronger plates of the meal. It sounds simple on paper, but the quality of the beef really elevated the dish. The steak was cooked beautifully and practically melted in your mouth. Paired with the broccoli, which added some welcome texture, it created a really complete and satisfying bite. The shrimp fried rice (5/10) was exactly what I'd call a standard fried rice. It was good, but there wasn't anything particularly memorable or compelling about it compared to the other dishes on the table. We wrapped up with The Milk Man (6/10), which is Lo Kee's deconstructed cheesecake. The presentation was creative and the flavors were enjoyable, but it wasn't the kind of dessert that lingered in my mind after the meal. A fun concept and well executed, just not the most memorable finish. Overall, Lo Kee delivered a pleasant dining experience with great service, a few strong dishes, and some interesting takes on familiar flavors. While not everything completely wowed me, there was enough to enjoy that I'd be open to coming back, especially to see how the dinner experience compares to the daytime atmosphere.

The restaurant is beautiful, red velvet curtains, baroque flowered wallpaper. The service was excellent. They have a very nice wine, cocktail, and mocktail list. I had the purple rain, light and bubbly. My friend enjoyed her gingery King's Ransom. The menu is Chinese and Asian fusion, and a short list of sushi. Chinese is always meant to be shared. We had the miso truffle salmon and each of the steam buns to start. I thought the salmon was very good, I do not normally like capers, but liked the way they prepared them. The katsu was probably the best of the buns, nicely crispy. The tofu was good a well, with a nice kick, the young one in our group found it too spicy. I would not order the short rib again, it was fine, but I've had much better short rib. We then had the chicken satay, roti canai, and the miso cod. The chicken satay had good flavor, and paired well with the peanut sauce and pickles. I did find it a bit too fatty. The miso cod was perfectly cooked, and the flavor was just right. Note that it is a very small portion. The best dish was the roti, a yellow curry with chicken and veggies with two flaky peice of roti. So good. The star of the meal though was the mango sticky rice, with sorbet and small bits of mochi. This is one of the best versions I've ever had. Do not miss this dessert! The issue I had with our visit is we, a group of three, were seated by the door, which was also near the kitchen door. The seating felt cramped, and every few minutes one of the doors was slamming, which made it a less pleasant experience. There were also several other tables open that we could have been seated at instead.

I ordered the Shandong braised chicken, a dish presented with its protein resting atop a glossy sauce and a generous scattering... ten or more pieces of accompanying dough. In theory, this bread should serve as both sponge and companion, absorbing the depth of the braise and rounding the dish into comfort. In practice, it was profoundly compromised. The dough was unmistakably moldy, visibly, undeniably so. This alone is alarming in any dining establishment; it signals a breakdown not just in execution, but in fundamental kitchen vigilance. More troubling than the oversight itself was the response. When the issue was brought to the attention of the waiter, the reaction suggested familiarity rather than concern as though such an occurrence fell within the realm of the expected. There was no urgency, no visible embarrassment, no effort to meaningfully rectify the moment. The tone felt faintly dismissive. The effect on the room was immediate: the couple seated ahead of us, having witnessed the exchange, opted against ordering an entrée at all. That, in itself, speaks volumes. There were, however, redeeming elements. The spicy beef was well-prepared, delivering heat with balance rather than bravado. The diced potatoes were excellent, crisp at the edges, tender within, and seasoned with confidence. These dishes hinted at a kitchen capable of competence, even finesse, when fundamentals align. The atmosphere added an unexpected layer. Spa music drifted through the dining room an odd choice for a meal that aims to be bold and hearty, creating a tonal dissonance that never quite resolved. Service hovered in the realm of "acceptable," buoyed largely by polite refrains of "yes sir" and "no ma'am," though these formalities felt more like compensation for a lack of true attentiveness than genuine hospitality. I would not go so far as to discourage anyone from dining here. There is promise, and there are flashes of real quality. But I would offer this advice plainly and without drama: inspect your food carefully. Mold has no place on the plate, and until that reality is treated with the seriousness it demands, the experience remains compromised no matter how good the potatoes may be.
