Normally that comes with collard greens, and mashed potatoes, yet I subbed out the potatoes for grits. It came with a deboned breast, and a large wing. Not much has changed since my first visit here. The midtown location is one of their popular spots because of course it's in midtown and the area is super walkable. We are visiting ATL for a wedding and stopped by Southern City Kitchen after dropping our things at a near by hotel. The atmosphere seemed inviting and I'm so glad we stopped by. Its casual seat your self so we got a nice little table by the open air window. Kind of like sitting in the sidewalk cafes of Europe. The server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu our food was served promptly with a southern flare, warm biscuits and corn muffins with butter came first, then our entrees. My trout was delicious the skin seared perfectly crisp the corn and tomato succotash was the perfect bite to add a little acidity to the meal. We were looking for a great place nearby to dine and eat southern food. Came here on a suggestion of a friend. There is a pay parking lot across the street. I believe it was 18 for 2 hours. We were not able to find any surface street parking so ended up parking in the pay lot. The entrance is a bit hard to figure out since there is a covered outdoor dining area located in the front as well. We made a reservation since it was the weekend and we were not sure if we would get a table otherwise. Our server was nice and service was quick. While we waited for our drinks and food, the server brought out fresh rolls and cornbread. Myself and one other friend really enjoyed our meals. Needed to have a Southern meal during a quick weekend trip to Atlanta. Loved the complimentary cornbread, but had to resist the temptation to eat them all so I would have room for our meal! We started with the crab soup and fried green tomatoes. I would probably pass on the crab soup since it was a bit too heavy for my taste, but though the fried green tomatoes were tasty! We had reservations at another restaurant and after waiting 30 minutes post our reservation time we had to find another place that would accommodate us so we weren't late for the show we were seeing. We also needed a place that had vegetarian options and food for picky teenagers. We called and they were able to get us in right away (even though they were busy). I ordered the salmon toast, the vegetarian had "that sandwich" minus the meat, and the picky teenager had chicken and waffles. We were also served cornbread with house-made apple butter. This place made the short list of places to visit on our limited time in ATL. Coming from SF, we really wanted to have authentic southern food and SCK did not disappoint. The restaurant is in a converted house which added to the southern charm and atmosphere of the place. We went in during the lunch hour on a Tuesday and the place was busy but we got a table upstairs right away. It was a little noisy as the upstairs opens to the bar and lower dining area but not terrible. My friend and I could still have conversation without having to yell over the noise. Our waiter was very welcoming and helped us decide on how much we should order. The servings were generous we found out and we were glad he helped guide us in our choices. My friend and I split an order of fried green tomatoes and Nashville chicken bites to start. These tasted like I imagined but even better! The chicken bites are spicy so be cautious if you're not into spicy. The heat comes at the front of the bite but is more of a medium heat Tabasco than a full on fire. Thankfully, I had ordered a sweet tea which helped balance out the heat. (You can order the sweet tea less sweet if you're not accustomed to it. I did order it less sweet and it was delicious.) For our main, we also split the shrimp and grits. I initially thought I'd only have the shrimp and a bite or two of the grits as the first two appetizers were already filling. I was wrong! The gravy on with the grits was everything. There was no way I wouldn't eat it all. Mind you, this was half of the normal portion since my friend and I split the dish. We were super-stuffed but we had no regrets. The food and the experience were well worth being uncomfortable for a while. We burned it off by walking about 10 minutes to the High Museum to enjoy the exhibits. This was the perfect combo of activities to do on a Tuesday afternoon in Midtown. read more

If you love southern cooking you'll need to try this place ASAP. Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation as they are usually very busy. They have a nice patio area if the weather is nice. We had plans to go to another restaurant but their food didn't look too good and there was a wait so we decided to try this place out! We walked in and were told the wait would be 30 minutes but it was definitely shorter than that. The staff were SO friendly and professional and the decor was so classy. My entree was the trout filet and it was good. I have a feeling it was not what to order. My colleagues fried chicken looked fantastic. I got to try a piece and it was juicy and flavorful. We ended the night with the peach cobbler and banana pudding. I don't usually eat dessert but I tried a piece of both and they were very good. I do not recommend the zombie cocktail. My version of soul, southern food has a lot more flavor. We arrived without a reservation and the hostess found us a seat. It was a little choppy in the beginning, her attitude came out and she acts as she doesn't like her job. We were a couple of minutes away from leaving. The waitress was very cool, I thought the service was slow however. By time I recieved my flight of whiskey the meal arrived with 5 minutes. It should not take 15 minutes plus for a drink.
