My wife and I stopped by for opening day today. We've been fans of their donuts and coffee from their Waitsfield, VT location. The donuts prepared by Emma are amazing. Made with love, the donuts are hand-crafted from organic flour nearby in Charlotte, VT. My wife and I enjoy the churro donuts, which are an amazing treat. The donut is the inspiration for the business name. It's a French crueler donut twisted into a textured halo (see pic), expertly fried and then lightly dusted with cinnamon and sugar. The first bite is heavenly. The crisp texture of the exterior and the light custard interior make for one of the most flavorful and euphoria inducing experiences. The light strands of the interior dough and the texture of the crisp fried exterior are a wonderful mouth-feel and "Mmmmm" inducing delight. The selection from behind the barista bar is more than just coffee. Selections range from espresso, to latte, to chai, as well as herbal teas for the "not coffee" inclined. I ordered an Americano (see pic), which Tay prepared with perfection. I added a shot of maple syrup for sweetness and sipped in satisfaction. The interior is still in need of decoration but for an opening day, that in no way detracts from the experience. The fanbase is strong with Twisted Halo. They sold out within the first hour and continued to bake to keep up with demand. It was great to see friends connecting with friends as they arrived, conversed, and parted ways, making this the ultimate social spot for a morning or post lunch coffee and donut. We were the first in the door for the day. The maple donuts were really good but the coffee was really lacking. Very expensive in my opinion. $8 for cold brew is insane. The inside needs some love. No real decor inside. Service was very slow. Not the best but not the worst. 3 stars only because of the donuts read more

The only reason this place even gets a second star is because the guy making the coffee is a beast. Turning it out and doing it quickly. Where to start. First there is a dog walking around inside the store, wasn't a huge deal to me...until I saw it walk In the back where they were making the food. How does the health department allow that? My daughter and I waited over half an hour for an açaí bowl and avocado toast. They weren't back up mind you, everyone that came in for that half hour after us got their food pretty quickly. After 15 minutes I reminded them that I was there and gave them the benefit of the doubt, I know on occasion orders get misplaced or lost. We waited another 20 minutes before our order was made. At no point was I apologized to or even acknowledged for that matter. By the time we got our food the coffees that we were bringing back to the rest of the family were cold. I can excuse a lot of stuff but how do you not acknowledge or apologize for something like this? read more

Exceptional barista and exceptional donuts - a gem in the Valley. I'm someone who's in Waitsfield on a weekly basis, and am beyond excited when good places pop up in the Mad River Valley. I'm also often skeptical because these places so often leave just when they become beloved. I was significantly bummed when I found out that The Sweet Spot closed up shop. They were solid, and scratched an itch for providing solid coffee and breakfast options in one of the best locations in town. Twisted Halo is hitting similar notes, but is excelling with good focus. Their food menu is extremely limited to basically just a build-your-own breakfast sammy, and donuts, but both are exceptional. Their coffee is also superb, thanks to an exceptionally skilled third-wave oriented barista (something that I feel is rarer than I wish to admit in the state). Every single shot of espresso I've had pulled from their Slayer has been textured, sweet, and pleasant. Maybe now I can avoid risking life and limb on the mountain pass in the winter when getting to Royal Oak is impractical! This place is worth the 15m detour off i89 if you're in the area (as is the rest of the town!). And if you're a local, it's worth breaking open the wallet for. Selfishly, I hope that these guys stick the landing, and stick around for a long while. Waitsfield deserves them! read more

We live on Long Island and there's a whole crew of us that travel to VT to enjoy the mountains in the winter. This is our favorite spot to stop in before we start our day... and sometimes again after we're done boarding. The doughnuts are made with a brioche dough that we all agree is out of this world. I've only been lucky on one occasion to try their more cake like doughnuts and they have a great texture with some wild flavors (I think the one I had was blood orange) Get the maple glaze. He seems simple but they make that one as a standard for a reason. They have other rotating flavors but the lemon/blueberry and the strawberry seem to make pretty regular appearances. The strawberry is the best strawberry doughnut. Get that one too. If you're fortunate enough to be there on the weekend Emma gets nuts and makes cream puffs that are insane. You can see the flecks of vanilla in the pastry cream and you will not be upset at the amount of cream packed into these guys. You will need a napkin though. Churro doughnuts also make an appearance randomly but you gotta get there real early cause they're gone fast. They're best fresh but we've left them in the car all day while we boarded and they were still an amazing treat for the end of the day. A quick shout out to Emma for making Justin and I Boston Creams on our last visit. The pastry cream is just out of this world and those guys were MASSIVE. Ok ok I'd be a fool if I didn't also mention that they do more than doughnuts. The coffee/tea/lattes isn't a wide selection but it doesn't have to be when it's this good. Their drinks are simple, delicious and everything I want before boarding. They also offer custom breakfast sandwiches and they have a handful of lunch items (sandwiches and bowls) that we keep going back for. I never leave reviews but this place is truly something special. The owners are so awesome it was like saying goodbye to good friends when the season ended. Besides producing high quality products, the whole place has a great atmosphere with multiple areas to get cozy in and an outside seating area that overlooks the river. While exploring Waitsfield, my wife and I happened upon this little shop and ventured on in. We were warmly greeted by a young woman named Emma who proceeded to introduce us to her unique style of donuts. I especially appreciated her attention to sugar in moderation in her glazes along with real fruit. Amazing. I had a blueberry glazed donut and a churro donut. I've had churros but never a churro donut. And when I tell you that the almost creamy interior surrounded by a cinnamon, sugar, and crunchy exterior nearly made me cry, I'm not exaggerating. It was SO good. I'm going to be making more trips (from Burlington)...which is well worth it. And...I hear there's a potential to order catering?
