I came in here recently hoping to get some gifts for my grandson who I was off to visit. I of course am out of style at my age but I knew he surfs at college and I had his sizes so figured how hard could it be. I was amazed and a bit overwhelmed by the amount of options but had the sweetest experience being helped by a young man named Bruce. He helped me pick out a few items based off pictures I showed him of my grandson. Turns out he was spot on with what we picked and I just couldn't shake how kind him and the other staff where as we sorted through all the options. Apparently he is from the east coast he said and he really had that spirit of hospitality. They have 10 plus staff and they all act too busy to even talk about stuff w/ an attitude like you're not cool enough to be in the store. Tanner is truly exceptional. He went above and beyond to make things right when we faced issues with the initial pickup. Unfortunately, the front staff was unresponsive and dismissive despite having a delivery confirmation--causing us to make two unnecessary trips. But when I reached out to Tanner directly, he was prompt, professional, and incredibly thoughtful in resolving the situation. It's rare to find business owners so committed to customer satisfaction. Because of him, we'll definitely continue shopping here. I'm giving four stars only because the front desk experience needs improvement. Staff should be better informed and more proactive. Extremely pricey gear. The annual Labor Day sale brings wet suits and attire to a decent price. I couldn't believe there were slippers being sold at 60% off and they were still $40. No thanks! The full zip long sleeve sun shirt was $70 reg ($45 sale). Not a great price. Staff were friendly and helpful. That was good. Changing rooms were requiring long waits. I tried on my sun shirt behind a hanging surfboard bag in the store. It got the job done! My boss remembers the days when a new wet suit for surfing would be just $200. Been a customer for 40 years. Very disappointed In the quality of their classic O'Neill t-shirts. Bought it 2 months ago, washed it twice and shirt developed holes due to cheap thin fabric. Went in to see if they'd replace it or refund and they said " Since you don't have a receipt, we can't give you a refund or an exchange." Even tho' he agreed the quality is degraded. I hate the feeling of being ripped off, especially having been a faithful customer for many years. I would not recommend purchasing any T-shirt's and keep your receipt. See yah read more

I only ever shop here to buy sweaters, but the customer service at this location is great compared to their other location downtown, I had to review it! I'm pretty positive this is their flagship store so they have a lot of inventory compared to their other location. I found a great deal on a black O'Neills hooded sweater. I've spent a fortune at this store. They have all the top brands for sandals and beach clothing...Reef sandals are my favorite, they are so comfortable and have the built in arch support in the simple sandal. My favorite is called the "Ginger" and they have stopped making them in different colors. You can only get black and brown anymore. Thank goodness I still have all the colored ones saved. They really hold up great and like I mentioned are super comfortable. I wish I had a commission for all my friends that have purchased them from my advice. Haha I have purchased many cute outfits, hoodies, pants and sweaters here. This spot is not cheap, actually kinda expensive but I think it's worth it. read more

Prices are a little high as expected as you are paying for the brand but with 40% off they are reasonable. Staff here always very polite and helpful. Looking at a new wetsuit and rash guards. I field-tested my new suit today at Huntington Beach, just north of the US Open Surf Contest, and it is the best (full) suit I've ever worn. A chilly head-high south swell with a 12 minute wave interval between sets meant sitting it out in a cool breeze with cool surf and lots of paddling to stay in position. The O'Neill kept me toasty warm, so much so that at one point I slid off my board to flush it with cold water to cool me down some. It'll do quite well in Ireland, Scotland or even Oregon. It was super flexible, comfortable and warm, exactly how I like everything in my life. I'll hold onto one of my Ripcurls as a back-up and donate my other to the Wounded Warrior Project (there are some worthy disabled women vets that would love it). A couple weeks ago I bought a pair of Reef sandals at the capitola store for $80 I noticed the strap that goes between the toes on the right side is coming out so I went to the o rolls location where I purchased them to try and do an exchange and was told that without a receipt there would be no return or exchange. The sandals I've bought there have always lasted several years so why would I think I'd need a receipt. If they won't do an exchange without a receipt the store should explain so at time of purchase. Instead of this being resolved at the store I was told by a manager "how do we know you didn't buy them or steel them from a different store. I'd assumed that such an exchange product would be backed up by the retailer that sold them to me. Instead of getting an exchange I was essentially called a thief. I've been patronizing this store for many years and would go out of my way to shop at this store but after this experience I'll be doing my shopping elsewhere read more

The service here is always excellent. I have bought almost every piece of my surfing equipment from O'neill. I also surf in front of Jack O'neill's house, so it is a sign of respect to him. They are really good on wetsuit repairs and general knowledge about various accessories. This place is my go-to surf shop for actual surf equipment. I don't buy their swag that much because it is usually priced for the tourists. read more

Nothing better than having a creepy, older white dude...circle me and my girlfriend, as we are looking at the Santa Cruz hoodie table. We are both Latinx and we both felt the strong vibe from this dude, that we were going to steal or something else. Who knows, but he finally worked himself up to come up to us and tell us that we need to stop trying on sweatshirts and that there is a sign, we can return it if it doesn't fit, but we need to stop. We both felt extremely awkward and unwelcome after that. My girlfriend wanted to spend more $, as she lives in Sacto and comes down to visit my husband and I, but after that, we just wanted to get out of there. I want to mention that there are NO SIGNS anywhere in the store about NOT being able to try things on. Did this guy make it up? I'm not sure, but my happy, hardworking, able to afford a sweatshirt, behind will be going to the new Aptos location now instead. I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt... it must be hard to be in your late 40's-50's and working minimum wage at a surf shop. read more

When I was ready to go out in the water down south at my home I got 2 right booties. so I call the shop and got Autumn on the line. she sent was great took down my number and was going to try to find an answer for me. Last week I went in to buy some new swim trunks. I asked some dude behind the counter if they sold a specific style of shorts. He didn't know. So I made it easier for the poor guy and I told him exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to replace my old O'Neill shorts which are called Hybrids and the have 3 pockets and the back pocket had a bottle opener. I explained all this to him. I even had the shorts there and he saw them himself. He sill said he didn't know. He's either really not familiar with their inventory or he didn't want to help me. So which is it? I'm not going to stop coming in because I like your product so next time please have an answer other than "Ugh, I don't know". Make an effort for god's sake. read more

People talk about the "great quality" of O'Neill's swimwear, but I bought a rash guard, wore it once, and the material is thinning and pilling. An O'Neill's employee told me she couldn't do anything because it was worn, yet your gear should last longer than one wear. I just got back from shopping at O'Neills on 41st Ave. I live close to this shop and needed to get a long sleeve t-shirt for a birthday present for a family member. I don't go into any stores due to Covid, and I wanted to make it quick. I looked on most of the shelves and racks but couldn't find any with long sleeves (it's difficult to tell if tshirts have long sleeves if they're folded on the tables), so I asked the blonde woman at the counter. She told me that I should look around and see if I could find any or I could buy the O'Neill T-shirt in the cases right where we were standing. Everyone in my family owns O'Neill shirts, so I wanted something different. I told her I had looked around and couldn't find any long sleeve t-shirts but could she show me where there might be some. She said each brand has different shirts all over the store. She said if I looked already then there aren't any, except the O'Neill shirts. There were no other customers and two other employees in the shop. Feeling demoralized, I looked some more on my own with no luck. I felt sad that one of the few people in town who had a job wasn't willing to do the job. I left without a present after risking my health, to some degree. The employees really need to understand that their job is to help people find what they need in a pleasant, helpful way or let a hard-worker do the work. read more

Wife ended up loving surfing and had to be dragged off of Cowell's Beach like a 4th grader leaving a pizza party. Guh. So we go to the sale and women's wetsuits are 30% off! Wow! So she gets one. And women's 2mm booties are 50% off! Wow! So she gets a pair And women's t-shirts are marked down! Wow! So she...you get the point. I've been a customer of theirs' on & off for 30 years. The people on the floor are generally quite nice and helpful. Their prices tend to be high, but you can catch them on sales. Two of the salespeople realized I had been someone cheated on a return because the extra tax had been kept instead of giving it back to me, and they referred me to their bookkeeper, JENNY HULL. I asked to see her on my THIRD trip there--she was out the second time, & already gone the first time. Unfortunately not only was she NOT going to hear what I had to say, but she kept defending her position by saying the item hadn't been returned in 30 days.... I know...( I had had two serious health issues and so was unable to bring it back, or use the suit)......that was a non-issue...i had already suffered the additional 20% loss on the return. And O'Neill's was fine as they most likely sold that suit that very same weekend at the Labor day sale.. But they also kept the additional tax which should have been refunded. The sales people had even calculated the additional refund for me, but they couldn't repay me from their registers, or they would have. They understood the issue. JENNY did not, or at least refused to. She continued on her blame-game with me for what seemed like 10 minutes. I finally walked out, very frustrated. She did not ask me to stay for further discussions. Thank God she's not on the floor ; however, due to her working there, I will never step foot in the store again. It's really too bad that a person with such lack of any empathy, & zero listening-abilities is actually working in an otherwise wonderful store-concept, started by Jack himself, who I also know. They have great selections of cute, girlie baby tees, short-short skirts, and tight-ass low-riding Roxy pants. I'm sorry to say I haven't really ventured into the men's section of the store, so I can't give an accurate description of what it's like. But as a real live girl, I can honestly say that O'Neill has everything I could want to make me look like a modern day Gidget. read more

Great place to peruse and eyeball the racks full of typical surfer/skater clothing. I was catching up on rays and surf when my sister's boyfriend dragged us out there and lo and behold, we happened on their large parking lot sale. Despite the half-naked good looking guys directing our cars, I realized that this is one town where I feel absolutely safe from prodding eyes and arrogant social environs of taking off my sweater to hang out in a halter top (people in SF think I'm too fat for an Asian.....hahahaha!!) So, while getting a little pink from the hot sun, I found a great Split tank to with shoulder ties ($11) and debated about a Hurley sundress, but realized I could not really pull off the surfer gal look without hitting the gym first. My sis's boyfriend loaded up on tons of shirts and flip flops, while his brother found great deals on bags to separate his scuba gear, snowboarding gear, etc etc. Indoors, the deals were slight (10% only) so I did a quick walk through instead. Great deals, great relaxed staff, and one of the warmest and coolest places to hang out on a Labor Day weekend! read more
