Since it was touted as Ireland's *only* beach bar, we decided to stop off here for a bite and a break before finishing up a drive of the Ring of Kerry. While the ambiance isn't exactly "beach bar", it is a decent restaurant with quality eats. The seafood chowder is actually quite exceptional. It's perhaps a bit more soup than chowder, but the flavor is outstanding and the mussels are delish. The usual suspects are on draft, and overall while you might not be blown away, it's definitely a good place to rest before driving back to wherever you started the day! read more

Beautiful stop along the ring of Kerry. If you are doing the ring yourself and you do it clockwise, this makes the perfect spot to hit for lunch around noon. As a vegetarian, I wasn't expecting much from a place specializing in seafood. But it was fresh and delicious with generous and filling portions. The soup of the day was tomato basil and so filling! Sandwich was Brie with sundried tomato and carmelized onions... not a combo u have ever heard of, but wow it was impressive. Others with me had the fish and chips and loved it. Pricey but the view and location is spectacular with great service and quality, so it is definitely worth the price! read more

If you are touring the Ring of Kerry this a wonderful place to stop and eat or grab a drink. We were blessed with unusually sunny, warm and dry weather so we sat outside and enjoyed the beach view on the porch. Food was delicious. We had the chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was served cold rather than warm as in the States. I actually prefer it cold so that was a plus. My sons had the mini steak and chicken fingers, which were better than your typical children's menu. read more

This was the best seafood chowder I've ever had. Can't speak to the bar's quality, but definitely come for the food! The service was prompt, we had great seating with great views, and that chowder was heavenly. Would highly recommend! read more

Although the location is spectacular, the food we had was lackluster. The half dozen oysters were tiny.....2 of the 6 were maybe the size of a half tablespoon, the rest were maybe a tablespoon in size. The seafood chowder was really good though. The crab claws were over done and had way too much garlic. The other thing we had was the pear and blue cheese salad.....nothing special and average at best. Although we wanted to love this place, the only thing going for it is the location...so sad. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my husband and his parents the other day. The weather was absolutely gorgeous so we decided we just had to have lunch there and enjoy the beautiful sun and beach. The staff were all great, really friendly and prompt. I had a chicken and bacon Caesar salad, as did husband and my mom in law while my dad in law had a club sandwich. Overall it was a great meal. The prices were reasonable enough, the portions were generous (almost too big, I would even say) and everything was delicious. We all also had a pint with our meal as well. As I said, the weather was far too fine not to enjoy a pint by the sea! The beach is beautiful and just in a beautiful spot. This place is great and I highly recommend it. Love this spot. Easily the best beach I found during my two weeks in Ireland. Food and service were both good, about on par with what I have come to expect from Irish restaurants. The best part is the view and the waterside seating. Even though it is September and the weather isn't particularly good, I had to take a dip in the water after lunch to soak it all in! This was our "splurge" meal of the day during a beautiful excursion in County Kerry. Two of our boys enjoyed items from the kids menu (steak and chicken, both with chips) and were very pleased. Our third son's eyes almost popped out of his head when they delivered the Chicken & Chorizo Pie with featuring a towering puffed pastry crust (adult menu) - he was in heaven! The boys also enjoyed strawberry and raspberry Slushie-style drinks (alright, I had one too) which were quite good. I had the lamb burger which was very solid but not life-changing. My wife's entree (Fillet of Hale) was not delivered initially for some reason, but she enjoyed it once it arrived 15 minutes later. We all ordered desserts which were outstanding. The boys had chocolate cake with ice cream, my wife had the Sticky Toffee Pudding, and I ordered the Mixed Berry Crumble (but received the Apple Pie). The desserts were nicely decorated and very tasty. In spite of the issues with our orders, we liked this place well enough that I may take my wife back here for our anniversary dinner later this week. read more

Six stars! What an excellent find. Perfect seafood, cold beers and a seaside view. The entire setting reminds me of an off-the-beaten-path trip to Baja California. Food was fresh, eclectic and tasty was great portions at very reasonable prices. Mussels and oysters are a must! And, I then ordered a lamb-burger. Nothing disappointed. Took a walk on the beach post lunch. Try. This. Place. Don't let the caravan (RV) park fool you, this place is top notch. read more

Nice little lunch spot on the Ring of Kerry. A tad pricey, but the food was good - the vegetable soup of the day in particular was delicious. Decent salad (can't be said of everywhere, so this was an exciting find), good crab cakes, and overall nice view and vibe. read more

Actually, I have not been into O'Carroll's Beach Bar because it's not a beach bar, it's a bar that just happens to be by a beach. It was very obvious that I or any beach user was not welcome inside. There was no acknowledgement of the proximity of the beach - no shower, no sales of beach accessories, no hatch serving food to the outside and an unfriendly notice on the door saying, no wet feet, wear shoes, no wet suits etc. It's like having a bar in the City of London with a notice saying no suits, no ties. What a waste of a great location. read more
