Came here on a Thursday evening with a reservation for two, and left intrigued by the experience but not fully satiated by the food. If youre coming here for a fine dining experience, dont set your expectations too high for the food and just try to take in the experience yo smoke the most of it! I was surprised by how much my sense of sight affects my culinary experience. Coming in youre greeted in dimly lit bar area where they can take a look at the menu and let the staff know your order. Then you wait in line for the server to lead you through some doors into a dark room to your table. I was surprised how pitch black dark the room was as I could not see a thing and could only rely on my sense of hearing and feeling to make sense of what was happening. No lights could be seen in this room, including phones, or watches, or even cracks between walls --- which was nice attention to detail We ordered the surprise veggies and surprise meat as appetizers, and beef and risotto as our mains, thinking we could share. We had no idea what to expect but quickly realized sharing food is difficult without your sense of sight ! We pushed our dishes towards the center and poked around each other's plates until we got a sense of what was on the plate by our sense of taste and feel. Food was a but salty or sour for me, and was a little sad the surprise meat was rice plus little bits of chicken, when my main was risotto (which is also mainly rice) . My friend's filet mingon was actually not bad though! The experience was about an hour, and our server came back to lead us through the dark back into the main lobby where we could pay No pictures to share as the room was pitch black. So we had a group of 14 take a limo bus to Toronto and this was one of our stops and I think we all agreed it was not only our favorite, but we want to include this place on our next visit! I couldn't wait to tell people about it myself! Walking in, you will be greeted and seated in an area that is lit so you can look over the menu and place your order. This is not where you eat. After placing your order, your server (who is blind), will guide you to the room that is pitch black... close your eyes in a dark room and that is how much you will see - NOTHING! I will spare the details of how it's all done because that is part of thrill! Your blind server will serve your drinks, take refill requests (or new drinks if you want to switch it up), serve you bread, apps, main course, and dessert! You can choose to be surprised or order from the listed options. The only part that was a total surprise is the apps - your choices are surprise meat, surprise seafood, surprise vegetarian. Even the drinks can be a surprise!! Surprise cocktail ... surprise red wine .. whatever! I had the surprise seafood, chicken as a main, and butter tart for dessert. Everything was phenomenal!! For a basic meal like chicken potatoes and veggies it really blew me away! The server, Ali, did an outstanding job taking care of our party of 14, as well as other tables. It's incredible how he served all of us with no sight and didn't drop or spill a thing or get anyone's order wrong! Could you imagine doing this? He even bussed the tables and took a long walk to the kitchen with everything! There is no need for ableism with the blind ... and this is the proof! They can do anything and I loved baring witness to it and being a party of an experience that takes down the barriers in the workforce. If Ali can read this: you are awesome and I appreciate you answering a question or two that I had too! You are excellent at your job! Friendly, efficient, and without error for 14 people that's no easy task and you made it seem like it was nothing! I want to say pleasing 14 people from service to food quality is impressive! I didn't even hear anyone complain about their filet which happens all too often but nope ... everyone loved it! I also have a random note: as someone with high anxiety and mild ADD, I found eating in the dark alleviated so much of that. It allowed my mind to slow down and truly enjoy the food and conversation without my mind wandering a million other places based on visual cues. It was pretty awesome and thought I would share that for anyone who has the same thing and may even be worried about eating in the dark. I absolutely look forward to coming here again. ONoir restaurant is a Dine in the Dark experience that you absolutely should not miss!! It's so incredibly cool. All of the servers are visually impaired. Our server Elias was so kind and professional, explaining to us each step, each course. He did an excellent job. The food was amazing! We chose to have surprise appetizer, we decided not to get surprise entrées, and we both picked the filet mignon, and then we chose a surprise dessert. It was all fantastically cooked, well seasoned, and truly delicious. And because it is absolutely pitch black in there, you are more aware of your sense of taste, smell, touch. I ate at the Montreal location earlier this year so I had to come to this location too. Really cool vibe in the lobby--a basement library type of feel. After ordering in the lobby, we were escorted into the completely dark dining room by our server, Diana. She was very kind. The staff is legally blind, and best to navigate the total darkness. I ordered the 3 course dinner--appetizer, main course, and dessert. I chose to be surprised with each course. It's so fun to enjoy the flavors and textures and try to figure out what I'm eating. Me and my partner visited here for a date night because we heard from a friend that this concept seemed cool. Yes! First you enter a room and pick whether to do a 2 course or 3 course meal. Then your server guides you into a dark room and seats you on your table. You're not allowed to use any kind of devices that may project light. One by one your meals come to you and your server tells you where exactly it is placed. You cannot see anything so you have to use your touch and taste senses to get an idea about what you're eating. The staff was very friendly and good with guiding us to our seats + getting our meals so we know what is within our reach. Would rate this place a 5/5 for ambience but the food was pretty average. Had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant due to the behavior of the staff member taking orders outside. He spoke so softly when asking what did we want to order. Therefore my friend and I had to ask him to repeat several times. Instead of being understanding or speaking louder, he seemed annoyed, almost rolling his eyes and laughing at us. It felt as though he assumed we couldn't understand English. Later, when we were lining up to enter the dining area, he informed us that no electronics were allowed, which we were fine with. However, he insisted we turn off our phones immediately and stood there watching us until we did, which made us very uncomfortable. Later when a white couple lined up behind us was given the same rule, he simply told them and walked away without any further interaction. The difference in how we were treated left us feeling unwelcome, racially discriminated and the overall experience was upsetting. read more

As a gimmick and a first try, I think is worth it. Their portions are reasonably generous but quality is "fair" only. Their service is pretty good and detail as there's no light, so the waiter kept coming to check us out and let us know how things run which was pretty good. This is definitely a restaurant to visit for experience rather than food. The food was mediocre, nothing special and doesn't fill any cravings if that's what you're hoping for. It's also not an environment where you can really enjoy your food (in my opinion), I found I spent more time dragging my utensils across my plate looking for specific foods. The food is cut up for you which is a huge relief, but the steak pieces were a bit too big. Overall it was a fun experience and I love that it supports blind waiters!! Since you eat in the dark, there's no real visual of the food, so I'll try to describe it. The setup is an interesting one. You order everything before you go in, so it's a good idea to remember some of the drink options if you want more. The surprise starter was great. It was an interesting thing putting food in your mouth and not knowing what it is. The main was also great tasting. The meat was well cooked, but the veggies were overcooked. Have you ever had dinner completely in the dark? I went to @o.noir_toronto and had a memorable experience. I had their surprise vegetarian dish followed by their surprise dessert. I've got to say wow! The whole time I was in awe of the server who expertly navigated us to our tables in pitch black while attending to the other guests. He could sense who and where they were right away. The server was also blind- which added a sense of empathy to what their day to day life might be like. What a way to enliven the other senses. This was such an amazing experience! I knew that you would be eating in the dark and that they had surprise items on the menu so you could choose to be surprised and have to figure out what it was in the dark. Such a neat concept. You go in and you look at the menu first and put in your entire order including wine or drinks or anything else that you want. Then you're taken to a door where you wait for your server to come out. You put your hand on their shoulder and create almost a conga line and then you go through these two doors into the pitch black. Make sure not to wear your Fitbit or any watches that light up or it ruins the experience for yourself and others. Then you walk your way to a table and they point out where everything is for you giving you a dark tour. It takes you some time to adjust and I found that even the way I sat and held myself changed because no one could see me. The conversations you end up having in the dark also have a different vibe it was so much fun. I got the surprise appetizer and it was so fun trying to figure out what it was and we and I even tried to feed each other which was hilarious. I got the steak with mashed potatoes and veggies. The veggies and it up being green beans and it was funny how not being able to see them changed how to had to eat them. Had to avoid a bean going up your nose. The food was decent but of course it not why you came. Don't go for the food but 100% go for the experience. I went here with my girlfriend a few days ago and entered a dimly lit underground restaurant lobby. it had a slight smell but pretty easy to get over it. We sat in the lobby for about 10 minutes after we checked in with the hostess until we decided what we wanted to eat. We ordered, our hostess introduced us to our lovely server Dave, and he guided us as we entered a pitch black room and helped us find our seats. As many other reviewers say, Dave is wonderful. He has a great upbeat attitude and is funny, careful, and accommodating. The food is also really good. I got the Filet Mignon and I think it was slightly more cooked than what I had ordered but still very tasty and enjoyable. I also got the ice cream which was hilarious trying to eat in the dark, while also trying to avoid making a mess. It made me have a lot of respect for the blind. One major problem is some of the people that come in. A group of kids came in and thought it would be funny to keep shining their watch light. another group had a fitbit that turned on multiple times. Incredibly disrespectful and ruins the illusion of blindness. I'd recommend going on a less busy day. read more

We had a lovely experience at O.Noir. My 19-year-old daughter is legally blind and my husband and I were in Canada on a work trip. We decided to try this restaurant which was recommended by a colleague. The fillet was delicious and Ali, who was our waiter, who was completely blind, he did a phenomenal job waiting on us. It humbled both myself and my husband to eat in complete darkness. The food was great. The drink drinks were great and the service was even greater. I didn't expect a 5 star meal but I was hoping for an edible dinner that didn't taste like it came out of a microwave - boy was I disappointed. Didn't realize how expensive this restaurant is! The quality of food wasn't worth the price; it was like something you can get at a food court. When we got there, we were given menus to order in the lobby before going to the dining area. We were then escorted into the dark by our waiter my holding their shoulder. I was surprised at the ambiance of the restaurant. The place is underground and the entrance looks like a dungeon lol. The lobby is dark and has a medieval feel. Of course the actual eating area was pitch black so I couldn't comment on the look, but I can feel the tables were wooden and the chairs were the metal banquet chairs. To begin, we were given bread and butter (the bread was warm and soft with a crispy crust). There was a metal fork and knife (feels cheap) on the right of the table, a polycarbonate plastic cup of cold water on the right, a small ceramic plate with a napkin and a small whipped butter pod on top, in the middle. The surprise appetizer was calamari! I had four pieces and they were really nice and crispy. It had tartar sauce and some sweet plum-like sauce. I chose cajun fish as my entree. It was served on a bed of plain rice and boiled beans on the side. The fish was seasoned very generously, crispy crust and soft. Eating in the dark was challenging! I ended up using my hands to eat. I chose the chocolate mousse as my dessert and it was very decadent and rich. After a few spoons, it was too sweet for me. Lots of layers between mousse and cake. I felt that we were there for a long time--1.5 hours! There was too much waiting time between each meal. Our seating was 6:30 and was there until 8pm. The room was also very loud! Most of the time, we had to shout across the table. The staff was great though, friendly. Glad we had a Groupon. I was shocked when our bill came to $100 before tax and tip. The experience was unique as they promise. We chose our meal in the lit lobby and then were escorted to the dark room of the restaurant. It was cold in the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. I chose to be surprised for the starter and main. It was not anything special. I generally drink hot water with lemon. There was no lemon even for cold water or warm tap water. Made sense no hot water was an option (safety). The main had cold potatoes and not many green beans that were not of any quality, the meat was warm. The waiter said I should have told him about the meal. How exactly was I to do that with a family of kids who were out of control loud. The parents didn't keep them quiet and it took the staff 30 or more minutes to tell them to be quiet. The ambiance was 0. If you want to spend $130 (with tip and tax) for a different experience, it's a specific spend of your $130. I would not recommend it generally. read more

Food is below mediocre, and for a higher price tag for the quality and portion you're receiving, but yet again, you're not there cuz the food is great, you're there just to try it out and see what it feels like, and then probably 9 out of 10 customers won't go back again. They could've actually made the food way better, Increase portions, make the whole experience better, sure you can't see what it looks like, but at least present it in a decent way. read more
