Walking in, the store is large and open with a the right mix of tools, fluids, consumables and floor stock to get easier jobs done, no barrage of frou-frou garbage to shine your car tires, no tweety-bird floor mats, no bullet-hole decals. As you walk to the prominent service counter you notice a comforting odor of WD40 and engine oil, think of it as a sign. These guys get straight to the point, provide insight and help on questions you have, often everything you need in stock by a quality brand and at competitive pricing. What sends this place over the top is in the back though. There you'll find one of the most competent and speedy machine shops you'll ever have need of. Swap out some bushings? Ten minutes. I entered through their front door, behind glass security desk a lady charged me the $2 entrance fee, asked me what type of vehicle and gave me a list of what they have on the lot. As per their website this is one of the 3 total lots around Detroit. Their row numbering system was a tad confusing at first, till one of their employees pointed out, that I have to be in the suv section and not the Chrysler section. Found what I needed, and took it off. Went back inside and paid the $23.21 saving me $80 should I have bought online or $120 should I have bought at the dealer. Over all nice experience. If you have an American built vehicle from 1985 to 2010 this is your junk yard. They do have some foreign cars mostly toyotas, 3 1983 Mercedes and a 1981 Volvo 940DL. Chris advised, "usually not required, unless the damage is due to an accident." The $220 includes a lifetime warranty for wind and water leaks. I have one small gripe. They removed my windshield before verifying that the (one) windshield they had in-stock was usable. It was not usable - chipped. Thankfully they were able to find another windshield at a nearby distributor. The repair was completed only 45 minutes late. It was frustrating watching other customers arrive and depart while I waited. The downsides? Sketchy neighborhood = low rent. Waiting room is spartan and not exactly tidy. No coffee. No WiFi. No TV. Yard sale seating. But saving $400-$700 makes these inconveniences ... irrelevant. Will I use MCAG again? Yes! (But I would not let my wife go there alone.)

On Saturday, the mechanic on duty called with a quote for my check engine light, but had also prepared separate quotes for other issues that needed to be addressed for my car. Initially, this stressed me out -- (even though I also knew these items were issues on my car, but wasn't ready to fix them yet). I asked them if they could email the quotes to me which they did. I went online and I ran over to the reviews before approving any of the repairs and saw a 5 star review from a neighbor that is the kind of person I would imagine would leave a very thorough and honest review of a mechanic. (I had also had great experience at this garage years before, but wasn't sure if it was managed by the same person - it still is). I gave my ok and the parts were ordered and arrived on Monday, my car was completely repaired and ready to go by Tuesday at noon. The customer counter for Terminal Supply Co isn't facing the street - it's between two of the Terminal Supply buildings. The guy working the counter seems to enjoy helping to solve your electrical questions and problems. In our case, we needed a crimper-majobber to do something to an automotive wire harness with an open-something-or-other. The man at the counter first brought us the very best tool for the job (and exactly what we asked for) but when it ended up being a little more than $80, he had a perfect suggestion that would still get what we needed done. Some places with a main business and then a cute little customer counter seem annoyed by live customers, but not Terminal Supply Co. If you need something they offer, they're happy to help you pick it up right there.
