But the failures of this vendor begin and end with a lack of communication and service. This has been the single worst experience with a Yelp merchant ever. Don't waste your time. The guy doesn't return calls, doesn't follow up. His word is crap. He installed motors in our shades (that took forever) and when one of the motors burned out after less than a year, came and picked the motor up with a promise to get it replaced by the manufacturer. That was December and the last we heard from him despite numerous follow ups from our end. No excuses. Just a lousy way of doing business.

Before approving the order, I asked for several basic details in writing, including the payment schedule, estimated production time, anticipated installation window, Pacific Shutters & Shades' workmanship warranty, and the Hunter Douglas manufacturer's warranty. I was told their payment terms required a 70% deposit, with the remaining balance due at installation. On a $10,000 proposal, that would have meant approximately $7,000 paid upfront. I asked whether they would consider reducing the deposit to 50%, with the remaining 50% due upon installation and completion, and whether they would waive the 3% credit card processing fee. I also specifically asked for Pacific Shutters & Shades' own workmanship/installation warranty because the information I had received only addressed the Hunter Douglas manufacturer's warranty. Rather than providing the requested workmanship warranty or continuing to discuss the payment terms, the company responded that they felt the project was not the right fit for their company and suggested that I use another provider. I was disappointed because I was prepared to move forward with the purchase. For a $10,000 custom window-covering project, I don't think it is unreasonable for a customer to want the payment terms, installation expectations, and workmanship warranty clearly documented before paying a substantial deposit. Based on my experience, I would recommend getting all warranty and payment terms in writing before placing an order.

As you can see from the before and after photos, this turned into quite the project! What started as a very basic tank became a full turtle penthouse, complete with a large custom basking area above the aquarium. While we were working on it, I started calling around looking for help with a custom screen we needed to finish the enclosure. When I explained what we were building and who it was for, they offered to make the screen for us completely free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I didn't ask for a donation--they simply offered to help. That kind of generosity deserves to be recognized. The screen turned out perfectly and helped us finish a habitat that gives this very loved turtle so much more room to swim, bask, and live comfortably. It's easy to leave a review when something goes wrong, but I think it's just as important to recognize businesses that choose to do something kind for their community simply because they can. Everything that arrived was measured perfectly. The price and quality are both very good for shutters and blinds. The composite plastic style shutters we got are *solid*. No need to spend extra for wood anymore, IMO. The guys who came to install them showed up promptly, did an excellent job and were very friendly; and did the whole house with downstairs shutters in just under 2 1/2hrs. Could not have had a better experience.
