Called in an order and spoke to the rudest woman I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. She kept snapping at me and when I asked to change the name on the order scoffed and berated me and then proceeded to annoyingly ask for my order. Upon arriving I was greeted by a very sweet old man who helped me out and was kind even thought he was probably nearing his 80s. Got the food to go, we get to our hotel and the only thing edible was the pizza. The Chicken Marsala was literal cafeteria food, but only worse. Avoid this spot. This last time we went, we asked for butter to go with the bread, like usual, and our server said, "We don't have butter." An Italian restaurant with no butter. Really? They had a small table jukebox on the table and after breaking up with my ex-girlfriend I used drive the owner nuts because I would keep playing: "Because you're might" over and over and over again Funny he would beggars me not to play that song over and over. Good food when they can properly take a phone order. Lived across the street for 3 years, but I've had my fair share of issues picking up phone orders. They often take 10-15 minutes longer than suggested on the phone. But today, I ordered over the phone, showed up to pick up my order, and was informed that they didn't take an order for me. I showed them my call log and that I had called 25 minutes ago, but they said they didn't even know if that was their number and spent a minute or two finding a business card, which confirmed the number I called... I gave this place a five star rating a couple of years ago until this recent incident. My family and I were here celebrating my birthday and arrived shortly after they opened. The waiter showed my wife the table he wanted to seat us in and my wife asked if there was another table on the other side of the dining room. He just stated sorry it's closed for a large party then said rather sternly "go ahead and look for yourself." We were then seated at the table he placed us in and he took our order. I ordered the spaghetti and ravioli with mushroom sauce and a side of meatballs. When our food arrived we started with a salad and crab cake appetizer which was okay. Our main dishes were delivered by other wait staff and after I started eating I noticed they forgot to include the extra meatballs I ordered. I tried to bring this to the attention of our server named David but he was nowhere to be found until he just reappeared and presented the check in a rushing manner to suggest that we leave immediately. I don't understand why he did this because we were early diners and the restaurant had more than half of their tables empty. And all the while he did not tend to us, no refilled drinks, no desert menu offered or anything. Like I said I've been a long time customer here ever since this place was in San Francisco and can't believe they treated us like that. A good friend took us for a girls night dinner- Service was excellent and because we had no drinks, the bill was reasonable. Food was fine, but nothing to rave about. I ordered dinner via door dash and the only reason I am giving one star is because the garlic bread was okay. I ordered a regular fettuccini alfredo for the little one. And let me just say, my kid isn't a picky eater. She devours everything and anything, but when it came to this plate - I had questions. There was no flavor. None. Dov'era l'amore? 9/29/21 I've ordered pizza from O'Sole Mio Restaurant before, but my boyfriend and I wanted to go in there for dinner that night. When we got there, it was pretty late for dinner, (like around 8PM), so the restaurant had only two or three tables occupied. We were seated right away and the waiter brought us water and a pair of menus. I like the decorations they have in the restaurant. It resembles a cute garden patio! Here's what we got: 1. Risotto com gamberi e calamari (his) 2. Penne pasta spinach and pollo (mine) The bread came out first, but the downside to it was that it was cold. We kinda nibbled on the soft part of the bread until the real food arrived. The food came out in about 10 minutes; it was so fresh, you could see the heat waves radiating off of it. Both were delicious and had the classic Italian flavors, but I think the risotto was the winner over the penne. There was a lot of calamari mixed in the risotto and the risotto itself was so creamy. I really miss old school family run Italian restaurants, so was excited to try this place out when we were there to celebrate a birthday. First time visiting. Clean restaurant and we were greeted upon our arrival. I thought our waitress did a great job. Couldn't tell you what everyone ordered. Someone ordered a meatball pizza that looked really good but I didn't try it. Hubs ordered the Prosciutto, Spinach and Sun-Dried Tomato Pizza that I got to try. I liked the thin crust and the combo of the ingredients. I ordered the Veal piccata, and liked the veal as it was tender. Also liked the bread dipped in the sauce. The marinara, on the other hand, was quite tangy and more pronounced when eaten with the piccata sauce. This same sauce was on the Veal Parmigiana, but the tanginess wasn't as strong - maybe because of all the cheese? Quite a bit of items to choose on the menu. Driving through downtown Millbrae, O' Sole Mio, with its colourful & bright window lights + restaurant sign, caught my eye a few years ago and was added to my restaurant bucket list. My family and I finally tried them out for the first time via take-out on March 25, 2023. My boy enjoyed their food so much that he chose to return after our to-go order to dine in for his birthday. Venue: 5 stars/A+. Located on Broadway in downtown Millbrae, the restaurant does not have their own parking lot, but there are public lots nearby in walking distance as well as metered street parking in the front. As I mentioned above, the vibrant window signs and lights are easy to catch your attention, screaming, "Benvenuto! Come in!" Inside, the restaurant continues with the hues of the Italian flag (red, white and green) and adds an air of nostalgia with framed vintage prints of recording and movie artists. With functioning jukeboxes found throughout the venue, this cute place definitely exudes a strong retro feel in a clean, warm and welcoming environment. Food: 3 stars/C+, but my kids give them 5 stars/A. Needless to say, my boys love the food here (They ordered Penne w/Sausage & Peppers, Pizza alla Positano with Additional Toppings, Pizza with Chicken & Pesto + Feta Cheese, and Gnocchi al Pesto). I have had the Aragosta (Lobster) e Spinaci which was wasn't bad, it just didn't knock my socks off like I expected. I was also disappointed by the Chicken Marsala because it lacked the rich flavour of the namesake wine (my cousin-in-law agreed). The Chicken Piccata was tastier. Hubby was also unhappy over the Appetizer size of the Prosciutto, Spinach, & Sun-Dried Tomato PIZZA RUSTICA - although the restaurant menu indicates that this is an appetizer, the online menu does not. The Classic Caesar Salad is good as is the Fried Calamari, but they can take up a notch or two on the crispness of the latter. I prefer a little more golden crisp. If you have tummy room, don't skip out on the Dolce as, in addition to the classics like O' Sole Mio Tiramisu, they offer interesting desserts that you won't easily find elsewhere (e.g. Limoncello Mascarpone Cake and Coppa Crema Pistachio). Check out the FAMOUS BOSCO SUNDAES which are guaranteed delights for the kiddos, even the scoops of Old-World Spumoni come served like you are at a classic ice cream parlour. Heads up - they don't offer anything for birthday celebrants, just a candle on a dessert that you order. Prices are reasonable, though. Service: 4.5 stars/A. When my baby boy wanted to dine at O' Sole Mio to celebrate his birthday, we were bummed to be turned down for our party of twenty because they don't take reservations for parties of more than twelve...despite their signage that says that they have a BANQUET ROOM for Events, Meetings, & Large Parties. When we finally made it here on the evening of Thursday, April 13, 2023, half of our party was about an hour late in showing up, but our waitress remained patient, friendly, and accommodating. Never did she give us any pressure or show us signs of concern. We will be back for sure, my kids will see to it. I'm convinced that I will eventually find a go-to/favourite entree here. read more

This place is great! Lil gem in downtown Millbrae. Been here since 1950s I think! It was hoppin' on a Tuesday night, we walked in and were immediately sat. Their bread was fresh and delicious, they have olive oil and balsamic on the table and the bread is rested on top of the butter so that it stays warm! We got an appetizer of calamari which was pretty standard, the dipping sauces were the tangy tartar and marinara. We got the linguini with salmon and shrimp, chicken piccata, and tortellini. All were equally delicious in their own ways! I think my favorite was definitely the chicken piccata, it had soooooo much flavor. Service was good, a little slow but it was probably because they were slammed with a couple large parties as we walked in. Our waitress was very nice and sweet, she had a lot of tables. The decor inside the restaurant is adorable! Red checkered tablecloth, ceiling painted like the sky, vineyard decorations, mirrors to add dimension, and lots of vintage paintings and framed papers. We got the jumbo crab cakes with Caesar salad entree as an appetizer to start. It was perfect! The cakes were big and very tasty! We also ordered 4 entrees for the 3 of us to share. Wow! What can I say. This was our 1st time here at this beautiful intimate restaurant. We weren't expecting the dinner to be good. It was better!! We loved everything about it. We can tell how fresh, the meal was and the fresh ingredients to vegetables they use. The marinara sauce, was like no other I've ever tasted. Really traditional. The tartar sauce was also beyond great. Either its their house sauce or they do business with a very great company that makes really good tar tar sauce. The steak was cooked cooked to perfection how we like it. Medium well. The chicken Parmigiano was cooked to perfection also. The crispy ness of the chicken and the mozzarella was melted spot on. Delicioso!! The calamari, get out of here. Most places don't make it right. It comes out so oily and then soggy. Not theirs. It was just as perfect too. Serendipity. Best description on this review, the direct result of a total case from circumstance and coincidence. My friends live in Millbrae and we agreed to meet for a weeknight dinner in late March. I searched for an Italian restaurant since we agreed to dine on a Friday night and since it is still Lent. I quickly made a reservation for five at 5:30 pm. Said friends arrived early and were already seated at a window side table by the time my other friend and I arrived from the City. There were a couple of large tables occupied in back but most of the tables around us were open. Being a troll, I announced that I would be selfish in ordering an entree for myself, explanation to come. My friends kindly adjusted around my request and ordered an appetizer, pasta, and pizza to share while another friend ordered a salad for himself. Strange? Yes, a bit. Our food took quite a while to come out, probably close to twenty to thirty minutes after the fried calamari arrived. The lady efficiently removed empty plates and bowls, though I'm not sure whether it was for efficiency or to speed our meal along for the waiting customers. Regardless, we didn't stay for long after finishing our meal as my friend's daughter suggested a dessert place a half block away for our next stop. I really wanted to love this place especially after going on their website and learning that I'd actually dined at their original restaurant on Chestnut Street during my high school years before they closed. It was a dark old time place on the south side of Chestnut next to the Wells Fargo Bank, I believe; across the street from said friend's favorite Mexican place (nachos were his thing!). This is where the serendipity comes in. Will return and hope to try other menu items. Oh, and why my odd behavior?
