During the holidays we do the turkey orders and they are always popular with our family! But we don't just buy meat for us, we also buy meat for our cats. The owner, Lloyd, supplies us with duck that has been ground into cubes so that we can give it to our cats. Because of the raw food, I have been able to take one of our cats off medication for pancreatitis. If you've never been to the meat shop, be ready for a lineup. It is always busy in there, but busy for a reason. The meats are high quality and come from local farms. The animals are ethically raised.

I highly commend Thrifty's (and its conglomerate, Empire Co. Ltd.) for its swift response in promoting health and safety in its store. Some noticeable changes to enforce social distancing: - Reserved shopping time at 7am-8am for seniors and immunocompromised customers - Marked lines to indicate where 6 ft is for customers lining up outside the store and at the cashier area - Limited number of customers allowed in the store, as monitored by a staff member at the door (one entrance/exit only) - Sanitized shopping carts given directly to the customer outside of the door - One-way aisles, as marked by arrows on the floor - Plexiglas cashier shields, gloves, and sanitizing spray bottles to protect cashiers For more popular items like eggs and produce, Thrifty's has also placed signs limiting customers to the quantity that can be purchased. I was actually very impressed with how well-stocked the shelves were. With emotions running high as uncertainty sinks in, this is undeniably a trying time now for many people. However, it's important that we appreciate those in the service industry who continue to go to work to ensure that our lives can function as normally as possible in the circumstances. I looked up Iron Maiden Seafoods online to learn more about the company that brought us this this delicious fish and I am quite impressed with the company. They use sustainable fishing methods. Iron Maiden Seafoods troll catches their fish, which means that they use six lines with up to 20 hooks. This doesn't yield as many fish as other methods, but it's sustainable and ensures that each fish caught gets individually processed. They flash freeze the fish at sea and they guarantee freshness. Mainly Organics on Main Street in Vancouver sells Iron Maiden Seafoods fish. I might just have to head over there the next time I want some sashimi grade fish.
