The first time I came here was, I believe, in 2018, and honestly, I have never forgotten the flavor of their gluten-free fish and chips. I kept dreaming about it for years! So when I came back with my bestie, there was no question that we had to stop here for brunch. When we arrived, we kept walking because I couldn't find the restaurant, and I was getting pretty disappointed. Then I realized they were repairing the roof, so the sign had been removed. The portions are huge! I ate until I was completely full, yet my plate still looked like I had barely touched it. Since we were staying at a hotel, we couldn't take the leftovers with us, so they ended up being shared with the seagulls. The service was absolutely wonderful--friendly, warm, and genuinely welcoming. I'm pretty sure it's family-operated because you can feel that family atmosphere among the staff. The view is beautiful, with stunning water and city scenery that makes the experience even better. A little confusion on where to order. But you order up at the little building w/a roof and steps up. Once you order and your buzzer goes off, you go to the side building and pick up. I got a small salmon chowder which was good but a little too much potatoes for my preference. My halibut taco was also a tad dry and just ok. My cousin ended up getting the fish & chips with a medium chowder which comes with bread. The fish & fries were really good actually. Juicy fish and the fries were fresh and just potatoes. There were so many choices at this wharf, but the line at this spot was continuously long, so we decided it would be worth waiting for, and it surely was! I ordered their seafood stew. I don't eat mussels, so they allowed me to substitute for more scallops instead. It came with a piece of focaccia bread. The flavor was amazing! Fresh seafood in a very tasty tomato based broth! I highly recommend it. My husband ordered 2 halibut fish tacos and was underwhelmed because the pieces of fish were so small. read more

This food hut is located on the boardwalk in the Fishermans Wharf. With so many places to choose from to eat, this is a must visit. The food was super fresh and the menu has so many fresh options. The pricess is pretty simple. Walk up to the entrance where you order at the countertop. Menus are posted on the front wall. Place your order and pay. Get a number or a pager and go find a picnic table to sit by the water. When the food is ready, walk to the kitchen window and pick up your tray of food. After you eat, there is garbage cans to dispose of your garbge. I liked that everything was paper, wooden and very compostable. This food shack also sells a variety of drinks including beer and wine bottles. To start, I tried the Seafood Stew which was so good. A tomato broth with so much seafood. The dipping bread was excellent and the fact that the stew had no fillers like potatoes, I was so happy. The fresh fish tacos were simple in ingredients but had so much flavor. During our visit to Victoria, British Columbia, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Fish Store. I chose the fish and chips, and my son selected the fish taco with French fries. The French fries were truly outstanding. The fish was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. My only suggestion would be to consider adding some seasoning directly to the fish, even though the batter was seasoned. A few pieces of the fish did separate from the batter, and those were a bit plain. I would certainly be delighted to dine at this restaurant again on a future visit. The coleslaw was very flavorful. While I am not typically a fan of coleslaw, I did sample it since it was part of my meal. I can also share that my son mentioned his fish taco was absolutely amazing. read more

Came here on the recommendation of our Victoria Harbour Tour ferry driver.. he informed us that this place was the locals favorite for fish n chips .. also informed us that their salmon chowder was life changing.. so ofc we had to order these items.. tried the west coast combo fish n chips including 1pc salmon and 1pc cod, the salmon chowder and local fish stew. Loved the cod! the tartar sauce was the best I've ever had. Coleslaw was terrible. The salmon was wild sockeye - normally a fave but not a good fish for fish n chips - too lean/dry. Salmon chowder wasn't enjoyable either. Fish stew was better but still not my cup of tea with the tomato base - the tomato overpowers the seafood flavors. Would like to return and try out their halibut fish n chips and/or sandwich. read more

Ate at a location near the float hones on Victoria. Ordered an oyster "fishwish". Bread was good but that was it. Only two oysters and they tasted extremely fishy and not fresh. I love oysters - raw, fried, grilled, etc. These were not good at all and I did not eat my sandwich thinking I could possibly get sick. This was a quick stop for us after our ferry ride. Our parking meter was almost up and we decided to do a takeout and unfortunately could not enjoy our meal on the marina itself even though there were a couple of tables to sit, despite the weekend rush. We got the cod fish & chips and made it a double. We also got the 3 salmon chowder. The fish was so fresh, batter was light and fried perfectly. 10/10. The chowder was very good too, the shaved smoked salmon on the top added a good kick. Point to note is - this place offers fish & chips at a much more reasonable price than many of the other highly popular places like Red Fish Blue Fish or Finest at Sea and with a very high quality. If you are looking for a good deal with a view, this is your place. Pair it with a cold beer and nothing like it! It did take 20mins for our food to come out but in their defense - the weekend crowd was crazy even at 2pm which ideally is almost the end of lunch. Food was good overall although after spending $200 on lunch and tipping 20% without actually being served since you pick up your own food for my family we asked for one additional tarter sauce for my son and was told "it is an additional charge". They have fresh options and a wide range of dishes for a more developed palette. Service was friendly and helpful, and food came fast and hot. They have some unique seating options right on the dock. Note that they do have some restrictions on Alcohol sales depending on where you sit. I highly recommend the salmon three ways chowder. It has a rich and Smokey flavor and does not short on the salmon. It's a great alternative for anyone who doesn't like clams and is a treasure for the salmon lovers I. Your life. Tried this place because of the good reviews, but big mistake. We tried 3 fish and chip places while we were in Victoria and this place was the worse. The fish and chips were decent, but the cold slaw was terrible, the halibut sandwich was on the dry side but just ok. But the fish stew was awful. The seafood was dry and rubbery, the sauce burned?, and we couldn't get anyone to eat it and ended up wasting it and throwing the whole thing away. Also should mention the service was slow and cashier and workers were unfriendly. read more

Amazing Halibut! My wife ordered two (one for me and another for her) and both of ours. Luckily we had a lot of food. The Salmon was amazing (I don't like Sockeye Salmon but loved this one). You can't beat the location (on the water at fishermen's wharf), and the staff was super nice. They went out of their way to accommodate us. read more
