Excellent lingcod with chips and coleslaw. The fish was V generous and still moist. Clam chowder was perhaps more accurately called seafood chowder. Pakora w seaweed was over saturated w oil for deep frying. I believe the oil needs to be changed. See photo. Has attached fish store and adjacent cafe w pizza.

Finest At Sea was recommended to my friend and I by our taxi driver while exploring Vancouver Island. He mentioned that it was one of the best places for fish and chips while also having a storefront/market to purchase fresh seafood from. Since we had just eaten lunch, we decided to check out the market. There was plenty of fresh seafood including candy salmon, candy sablefish, and salmon pot pie. We opted for the Spring Salmon Candy and Sablefish Candy which were also recommendations from the woman who was working there that day. We purchased those and were on our way. The woman who helped us was kind and patient as she explained some of the items in the pantry section as well as some popular items in the display case. Both fish candy were amazing. The Sablefish was sweeter and more tender than the salmon candy. The Salmon Candy had a smokier flavor with a texture that is similar to jerky. We enjoyed both, but enjoyed the Sablefish a tad more due to flavor and texture preferences. Overall, giving Finest At Sea a 5/5 for the market portion. We will definitely come back when in the area and would love to try the fish and chips as well as other offerings. The storefront is cute and has a bar area to eat at. If preferred, there is also a park nearby with benches. Highly recommend to anyone looking to bring home fresh seafood, especially the fish candy.

Finest at Sea was having a shrimp cookout when we were there and I've never had so much fun with shrimp. We opted for 1/2 pound boats of Cajun butter shrimp and cans of Phillip's tilt beer. It was delicious and fun and there was great live music. We had so much fun I can't wait to go back. Super nice folks here and we felt the service was great.

Come here! Buy here! OMG so much better than the places tourists go by the water. Our local host sent us and it's to die for. We bought smoked fish in the shop and ate at the food trucks. Fresh fish is an understatement!!! There is plenty of covered outdoor seating and a playground across the street. It's a very developed food cart- all outdoor seating in what in CA we'd call parklets.

Fish and chips are to die for. Flaky, crispy goodness every time.

In a city chock full of amazing seafood, this is by far our favorite spot for fish and chips. They own their own boats so it doesn't come any fresher than this!

Fish is breaded well. We also had oysters and clam chowder, which were tasty too. Would certainly return. Had outdoor seating available.

This review is for the fish market specifically. To reach it, you walk past the picnic tables and tanks full of live shellfish. The store is small but well stocked with excellent smoked fish that works for picnic, souvenirs, or in my case both. They are well known, for their "salmon-on-a-stick" which is literally, very handy. Less handy, but equally good are smoked tuna, sable fish, and more. Added bonus for having salmon pepperoni that I brought back for my pescatarian brother who misses the flavor of smoked meat. Food, including the fish cakes and deviled eggs are made in house, frequently restocked and tasty. Best of all, you can bring it all back to the states as a souvenir with no problems from customs since it's cooked.

These are by far the freshest fish tacos in Victoria. You get a large portion of grilled fish in each and won't be leaving hungry. The slaw, salsa, and slightly spicy sauce are the perfect toppings. My only complaint is they used to offer a variety of hot sauces to add (I particularly loved a green chile sauce) but they now seem to only serve sriracha, which to me, does not offer the right flavour profile. Service is friendly but you should be prepared to wait a little for your order. I love sitting outside on a nice day, and have used their complimentary blankets and frisbees to cross the street and have a picnic in the park.

    Holidays are happening!

Although there are many variations with different toppings these days, just like poke, my favorite way is still the classic Quebecoise poutine just loaded with squeaky curds and gravy. The large is enough for two to share, unless you plan on making it your entire meal which I wouldn't judge especially since you can't find ones with the squeaky curds back in the US.

This restaurant is essentially a small shack on the waterfront level with some outdoor picnic table seating. It's conveniently located next to a large pay lot, so there's plenty of parking. When we stopped by after driving off the ferry on a Friday evening, it was relatively quiet and we were able to place our order with only one party ahead. Since the fries are freshly fried, it took a couple of minutes to assemble. Classic Poutine, Large ($15 CAD) - As a classic poutine, this is a pretty simple dish. The fries are clearly fresh cut, with even a little potato heel in the mix. They are cleanly double fried, allowing the requisite tenderness on the interior combined with the crisp exterior, even holding up to the gravy poured over the top. The gravy is pretty standard. It seems to be from a powdered base, so it's mainly there to contribute sodium rather than any robust beefy or vegetal flavors. They add a ton of cheese curds on top, enough to cover the entire surface of the metal tray the poutine comes in. The curds are fresh, milky tasting, and fabulously squeaky. They are still distinct with some substance instead of being melted into a puddle from the hot gravy. (4/5) While I can't really compare L'Authentique to anything in Montreal (seeing that I've never visited), I thought it was pretty good. It's clearly good enough to satisfy my poutine craving at least! Washrooms - No public ones, but if it's not too busy, the staff allows customers to use the staff washroom.

There's umbrellas along the queue so you're mostly shaded while waiting to order. The wait to order goes by somewhat slowly - in a way that feels well timed to not overwhelm the kitchen. For eating, there's counter space along the water and there's a FEW small stools to sit on underneath umbrellas. Honestly everything does look VERY good and I would definitely come back multiple times; I'd be interested in trying nearly everything on the menu! For this first visit, we got one piece of fried halibut and the poutine. The chips (fries) are VERY good. Next time I wouldn't order the poutine as a party of two because it is pretty salty and filing (maybe it makes sense to share with a larger party). I've got my eye on the salmon sandwich and the tacones for next time.

But fish for me was not as afresh as I expected it to be and the coating felt little thick for my taste. On the other hand the tacones were lip smacking good. Salmon was also good. 4/5. We stayed in line for good 40 minutes but found a table along the boardwalk. This was on a Monday evening. At 6 PM. Thankfully, all the time busy marina kept our toddler busy. It's a small shack and right between a seaplane harbor and kayak rental. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TACONES!

Do I put something together at home or do I stop and grab something easy and already prepared? Common question I find myself asking as of late. I notice the Burger Crush food truck looming ahead through the passenger side of the windshield. I start thinking to myself "nah not a burger, I ate one yesterday." As sudden as the thought of a burger is leaving my mind, a new one enters. TACO JUSTICE! And look at that. Parking available right on the street. Alright then. I bring up the familiar website from the warm comfort of my small pickup truck. Brutus burrito - Mmmmm. Yes please. Paid and tipped. Super convenient. Nice. I notice one person waiting for an order. OK cool, this probably won't take too long. I'll sit in my truck for 10 minutes and then go wait by the food truck. Door dasher comes up to the food truck, announces their presence and is promptly dismissed and pointed in a direction away from the service window "your name will be called when your order is ready!" Note to self - ok wow that seemed slightly uncomfortable, they must be super busy. I don't think I will announce myself, I will just let them call my name. Slightly unsure, but curious looking fellow approaches food truck. "Hello sir! Are you picking up!?" Snaps a clearly irritated staff person. "No no, I would like to order." replys the man. "What kind of tacos do you have?" "OK sir, look now because all of our menu items are written down here for you!" They point at the menu with an ever so slight shake of the head. Accompanied by a penetrating glare from a different staff person. 25 minutes pass since I've pulled over and I've now been standing by the food truck for at least 10 minutes. I start to question my decision of stopping here. A few more moments pass until I approach the window to inquire about my beef burrito, half expecting to be rudely dismissed and told to wait for my name to be called. "Hello, I made an online order for Lennon." I say. Without a word, staff person reaches over to what appears to be some far away corner to retrieve my now lukewarm and soggy burrito. I think to my self great, how long has that been there? So I ask. "Ohhh I don't know! Probably 10 minutes"? They respond. Since standing in the cold and bearing witness to such blatant disrespect to customers I have since become slightly irritated. I ask "why wasn't my name called?" to which they answer "that is not our system here, you have to come and say you are here and then I will call your name! I can't keep track and looking out for people with all these door dash people and everything else going on!" I reply "ok but isn't it kind of easy though to just call my name?" "No this isn't how we do it here!" Fed up, I just ask them to hand me my burrito so I can leave. They do. Before turning and walking even one step away, I hear three subsequent bursts of laughter erupt from amongst the food truck. I turn back around towards them, slightly stunned but also not surprised of this behaviour given my previous observations. I ask "why are you all laughing at me as I walk away?" To this I am not answered. I ask again, and tell them it's incredibly disrespectful and rude. Staff member in the middle responds "I'm at work dude!" Like this is normal work behavior for them. By this point I am pretty furious and deciding not to make more of a scene, I turn and walk away again. The same sarcastic and condescending burst of laughter from inside the food truck meets my ears as soon as my back is turned. Not even 3 feet away from the vehicle. I turn around again and shrug my shoulders in a questioning manner before continuing on to my vehicle. Hurt. Belittled. And greatly disappointed. I've been meaning to try it out for a while (especially after I read all the great reviews!) so walking by left me no choice but to head right in. First off, this spot has a really cool aesthetic inside. A large glass-front restaurant isn't uncommon for downtown Victoria by any means but the way that La Taquisa uses the light to highlight their bright furniture and playful colour scheme is both fun and visually pleasing. Plus, when a space looks nice, I swear the food tastes better! This time around, I went in and got 3 of the chicken tinga tacos with medium red salsa on them and it came out to less than ten dollars. When they take your order, they also get your name so that you can go take a seat and wait until they call you to come get your food. Overall, I thought that my tacos were extremely good with a taco-truck kind of feel about them. However, my friend got chicken molé with the mild verde salsa (and added guac and sour cream) and I preferred hers. Next time around I'll have to try either the baja fish tacos or burrito (since it seems to be a Yelper favourite) but all in all, I was really happy with this meal!
