A Fisherman's Wharf and Victoria Classic! Would suggest getting the 2 piece classic fish & chips if it's your dinner - each piece is decently small. Comes with fries, or for an upgrade poutine. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Covered seating area next to it or other tables throughout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also try the burger if fish isn't your thing.

Barb's Famous Fish & Chips (2 Piece Cod) and an order of clams.

I haven't been here in 16 years. I know...do better. However, in my defense, I live in the states. The establishment is still serving up excellent fish and chips. I treated myself a side of clams. To my surprise, it was more of a meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was not so happy about not being able to see the water like before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Nonetheless, the service was fast and the fish was steaming hot, just like I like it.

Researched and fish and chips at Barb's Fish and Chips came out on top. Took a taxi right there from the ship. Ordered the cod fish and chips with a side of poutine. The gentleman serving me was a delight. He took the time to ask where we were from and suggested we take the fun walk taking us to downtown and noted the buildings and sights we would see. So helpful! The fish and chips were the best. Fresh and delicious, batter coating just right and large yummy chips. Malt vinegar on hand to bring it all together. Served with side of Cole slaw that was light and refreshing, no dripping mayo here! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating was right there with nice view of Fisherman's Wharf and the other restaurants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend and would love to visit again.

    Halibut Dinner

We came here for dinner shortly after landing in Victoria. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They're located on the wharf and seating is limited but luckily we were able to find a spot before our dinner was ready.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We both opted for the Halibut dinner which came with slaw and fries. The fish was fresh and lightly breaded. It was "okay", not the best I've ever had and I'm curious as to what would make Barb's "world' famous. I don't mean for this to sound like a negative review, it's not, but I definitely had a better chippy tea while on the island. Would I eat here again? If I was on the wharf, for sure. Would I go out of my way for their fish & ships? Likely not.

Halibut Fish & Chips (2 piece split order)

I'm not as much a fish person as my wife, so these are mostly her thoughts. We walked from our hotel to Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria. Wanted to try some fish and chips. Barb's was one of the highest rated. We chose the halibut over the cod because it was fresher. The cod, however, is the most popular. It was very good. Not a ton of breading, but enough and lots of fish. We wanted a light lunch so we split a two piece meal and they offered to split it for us. Plenty of food. The fish also was not greasy, as some fish and chips can be. The cole slaw was cole slaw. The brewed ice tea was weak. But overall a solid four stars.

Delicious fish and chips at the wharf! My husband and I each ordered the cod fish and chips (2 piece meal) and shared a fountain drink. The cod pieces are huge, we were pleasantly surprised. It comes with a side of slaw and tartar sauce. The fountain drink area had a lot of wasps hovering by, just be aware. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The wharf has an open seating arrangement so we found a seat right by the water.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was hot, and both the fish and fries were crispy. It was filling and perfect to start the afternoon strolling around Victoria.

    Fish, fries, shrimp, chowder.

This place is good. Not the best in the city as advertised. But good. My wife and I stopped by here Friday night after a long day of e-biking this beautiful city. Which is perfect for biking by the way. It is located on the wharf. They do not serve beer so I grabbed an IPA from the fish store next door. The service was ok. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is noisy with a band playing down on the wharf and not really helpful staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the two piece fish and chips, shrimp basket, and seafood chowder. The fish was good, fries were great, and shrimp was basically something you can grab at Walmart. The seafood chowder is really good. The coleslaw had no flavor. Let me know if you agree or disagree.

Barb's was recommended by our tour bus driver Hummingbird and did not disappoint. Kind and courteous service at the counter. We ordered the cod and chips, kid's hot dog meal and a cup of chowder. Delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean, covered area to eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely return!

Used to be chowder, burger, shrimp skewer, cheesecake and fries. Our family loved it!

The burger was so good and juicy. It gets messy but it's so good. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Now the clam chowder, so good. There is a lot going on in there and I'm loving it. Maybe the best chowder I ever had. It's up there, way up there. I don't know what they do to the fry's, how can a fry be so good? Service was fast. I can't believe this place only has a 3.6 at time of revue. Very friendly lots of shade and fast and nice service. I had to make a review and I never give 5 stars. Great job Barbs!

We made the trip to fisherman's wharf, in search of some delicious meals; the food hit the spot as the fish was crispy and the chowder was fantastic. The service was speedy, based on the amount of folks ordering, and friendly to boot. Nothing beats enjoying your meal on the beautiful docks.

I've been wanting to try this place ever since a local recommended it a year ago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the location and atmosphere and would love to come back when I'm not on a cruise ship timeline.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We showed up right before closing and were probably the last order of the night. We ordered one serving of the halibut fish and chips, and it was HUGE! The halibut was incredibly fresh, but I wish the batter and fries had been crispier. This place definitely satisfied my craving, but my gut says there's even better out there.

There's umbrellas along the queue so you're mostly shaded while waiting to order. The wait to order goes by somewhat slowly - in a way that feels well timed to not overwhelm the kitchen. For eating, there's counter space along the water and there's a FEW small stools to sit on underneath umbrellas. Honestly everything does look VERY good and I would definitely come back multiple times; I'd be interested in trying nearly everything on the menu! For this first visit, we got one piece of fried halibut and the poutine. The chips (fries) are VERY good. Next time I wouldn't order the poutine as a party of two because it is pretty salty and filing (maybe it makes sense to share with a larger party). I've got my eye on the salmon sandwich and the tacones for next time.

But fish for me was not as afresh as I expected it to be and the coating felt little thick for my taste. On the other hand the tacones were lip smacking good. We tried ones with cod but the the flavor was highlighted coz of added coriander seeds in their sauce. Loved the coleslaw. Can't eat those deep fried fish without refreshing side due dish. Salmon was also good. 4/5. We stayed in line for good 40 minutes but found a table along the boardwalk. This was on a Monday evening. At 6 PM. Thankfully, all the time busy marina kept our toddler busy. It's a small shack and right between a seaplane harbor and kayak rental. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TACONES!

I was honestly shocked by how good the food was. I had initially assumed it might be a spot primarily for tourists, but a dear friend of mine who is a local mentioned that people in Victoria actually love coming here. She even noted that some friends from her children's school were there just the night before for an alumni weekend. The menu absolutely exceeded my expectations. I was blown away by the fish and chips; the fish was moist with a light batter and wasn't oily at all. The burgers, Irish stew, and shepherd's pie were all delectable as well. The real standout, however, was the sockeye salmon in a pesto preserved lemon broth--it was so addictive that I wish I could replicate the recipe at home. It is very easy to see why this spot has received so many accolades, and I would love to return the next time we are back in Victoria!

It's all about the Chinese menu, which is not available in English. They do really, really good,…read morespicy dishes, including liangfen (which they were sold out of when I went), numerous cold dishes, and a good variety of spicy, fried dishes. I haven't translated the full menu yet, but am intending to. I was told the chef was from Tianjin, and it shows in how some of the dishes that are derived from dishes from Sichuan and elsewhere in China vary, such as a tendency towards more bean paste flavours, and less bright, clear, savoury spice; more muddy and salty, and not in a bad way at all. They are hesitant to make some of the Chinese dishes for non-Chinese customers, because they have had bad experiences with Canadian customers ordering things and then not liking them. Know what you're ordering, or at least be willing to accept and try to enjoy anything you get, without complaint. Of course, if you know how you want something made, tell them. Their chef is appropriately skilled to deal with such requests. Many thanks to the person at T.T. Mix Karaoke who referred me to Old Vic for better Chinese food than is to be found elsewhere in Victoria. The restaurant is located near the Bay Centre and is a few minutes walk from the Parliament Buildings in Victoria. I was actually intrigued at why there was a Chinese menu with fish and chips at the front. We asked the waiter what their specialty was and she said fish and chips. So we all got the combo for 4 and combo for 2. This had both Halibut, Cod, Chips and Battered Shrimps. In addition, they provided coleslaw with those combos. When I first glanced at the food when it arrived I thought that it would be tasty. However, upon eating it the chips were too crispy and the halibut came out too dry. The coleslaw also seemed like it tasted more of a cold salad as it didn't have any flavour nor any moist that could have made it better. I was overlooking at the other group that was eating in the corner and long and behold they were having hot pot! If I ever come back here I would love to try their hot pot but I wouldn't suggest coming here for their Fish and Chips. They do however give you 10% off if you check in on yelp. But I experienced better.
