In A Nutshell: -Oak Creek Canyon may look like nothing to passersby, but this area along Red Rock Canyon Road (Highway 159) is a really good hiking trail. -It's good b/c it traverses a wide variety of terrain. -From open cholla cactus plains, to rocky rounded rocks, to the semi-dry creek bed that wanders through a tiny forest made of juniper & pine trees, you will experience a lot in just 4 miles. -If you are really lucky, you will stumble across the many wild donkeys that call this area home. Overall, during the spring this area is nice to hike day & night, but in the summer, I recommend starting early at sunrise.

By far one of my favorite hikes in Red rock. It's a moderate hike with very little elevation gain/decline so don't worry about it. You can get a little lost if you wander off the path to explore like I tend to do. I would recommend going down into the actual creek cuz it's beautiful and fun! I went in end of September which was still surprisingly beautiful in the low 90s. I plan on coming back here in the winter and definitely in the spring after some nice rain. It's a great hike to take friends, dates, or out of towner's. Oh but please don't leave your damn trash here as some people are freaking a holes.

Spent a beautiful fall day hiking here- with access inside Red Rock or outside (park in the lot past the Scenic Loop exit), which is helpful for those busier days at the park. There are a few different turnoffs here, which can make navigation a bit tricky, as well as areas where the trail forks for different options. Look up a map beforehand online as a guide. We started from the "middle creek" route. Trail was mostly easy to follow til we reached a large ridge and needed to backtrack. We made it most of the way to the end but not all the way to the creek. Took a different trail back and got turned around, went off trail (never a good idea, got all scratched up)- so maybe taking the RR route is a better option, YMMV (literally). Not sure I'd do this one again, but the trail leads you to some great rock climbing areas.

Great flat trail with gorgeous scenery. This is the last trail on the Red Rock scenic drive before you actually leave the park so watch for the trailhead! Beautiful scenery and lots of local flora and fauna to see. I'll definitely be back to explore more!

Located past the exit of the Red Rock Loop on SR 159, Oak Creek is a scenic trail that's easy to access and involves no fee to enjoy. If you're looking to enjoy the Great Outdoors and add some cardio into your day, this beats the dreadmill hands down. It's not strenuous at all as the trail is mostly flat, but a rocky one, so watch your step. You have great views of Red Rock as well as encounter cholla, Joshua trees, Yucca, and more rocks. The creek was flowing well when I went with Debbie N. this past weekend and that sound of running water is so relaxing. You can basically follow the trail as far as your legs and stamina will take you. Great choice for people of all ages and easy to navigate.

Just a bit off the parking area.

I feel like having a cone of rocky road ice cream after this trail. Pretty wide desolate and equally beautiful hike. Very heavy on the ankle bending micro boulders basically throughout. Not until towards the base of the mountain until your feet get a break from this rocky nonsense. Once you get there, there is a smooth winding horse trail that takes you into the canyon. This is the trail system between First Creek and the small trail closest to the end of the scenic route exit. It looks almost abandoned walking past the barbwire entrance at the parking besides the State Route 159. The trailhead marker is either as badly sun damaged as Bin Laden's hair, or possibly it was graffiti painted. You can see the BLM doesn't give much craps about this trail system. Nonetheless it is easily traversible. The thing about it is that the true beauty lies just a bit further. That can be said all along this trail. It really gets better and better the further you go. Just don't forget the rocky road on the way back. So where's the closest Thrifty Ice Cream? Yelp to the rescue!

I've hiked this trail and gone for a trail run out there. It's beautiful! You can access the canyon/trail from inside the Red Rock National Conservation Area or from Hwy 159 (if you don't want to pay to get into Red Rock, or the line at the entrance is too long). As is pretty common for a trail in the desert mountains, there isn't much shade. If you go out here in the summer, you'll definitely want to be sure to apply sunscreen. The trail is pretty rocky, so be sure to watch your step - especially if you're not a super confident trail runner/hiker. After a couple miles, you're treated to some gorgeous views, and if you go deep enough, you might be treated to some tiny waterfalls and pools. Check out our videos on YouTube that were shot along this trail: https://youtu.be/Xm5y7H__Tkg https://youtu.be/Z5hZERlqyN8

Oak Creek Canyon Trail is a pretty easy hike, but also rocky, so you'll need to watch your step so you don't trip. The first mile is a designated trail however after that isn't, so if you plan on heading into the canyon you'll be doing some scrambling over and around boulders. If scrambling isn't your thing just walk the mile to the mouth of the canyon and then turn around and head back while taking in some nice views and a variety of plant life. There's not much shade, so having water and sunscreen is important. This is a great trail for all ages even my dog enjoyed it.

Great views, but a lot of rocks! About 2mi in you'll see a small creek. I will definitely do it again!

I sure do. I've done three Love Hikes hikes over the last three years, Valley of Fire Intense twice and Red Rock Moderate once. I could see planning my next Las Vegas visit around doing two or three of their hikes. What makes Love Hikes so great? * Great guides who know all the trails like the backs of their hands, are listening to you and will find a route that works for you. When I asked for the intensity to be tuned up on the Intense hike - that's what I got. A thrilling and challenging experience with a guide who showed me how to do what I would have thought of as beyond me. And when I wanted a moderate scrambling experience, I got exactly that. * Owners, Roberta and Jacob, Las Vegas Natives, who deeply care that their guests have a great experience and will do anything they reasonably can to provide one. * The assurance that while the environment may be unfamiliar and challenging (middle of the desert) you'll be with well trained people who exactly what they are doing and who will make sure you have a great, and safe, experience. * Incredibly reasonable pricing for the beauty, thrills, challenge (if you choose a moderate or above hike), and incredible convenience. * Pro tip: If you love taking video (guilty!!) and are on a moderate or above hike, make sure you have a hat or body mount since the parts you'll want to video most will require using two hands. We went on the Ice Box trail, and we were doing well, reached to the top, hung out with other hikers, and descended down. That's when trouble started... we lost our way and went totally off trail for about 1-1.5 hour and half. I had no cell service, and the trail kept getting more remote. After some time, I decided to backtrack and started yelling for help. Thankfully!!! Nick heard me and led me out of where I am. I am so so grateful to have walked by him on my descent and ran into him again when I got lost. He let me join his group to walk back safely and I felt so much relief and gratitude. Next time I hike, I definitely will reach out to Nick instead of going by myself and 1,000 % recommend him.

I was excited to complete this hike as I have decided to complete a hiking challenge for this year and this would be hike number one. We promptly met at 9:00am in the Red Springs parking lot and begin our ascent up this so called staircase. There really is no set trail or staircase at all but lots of climbing and scrambling over and through large rocks. You just have to go with someone who has done it before and will guide you up the safest route possible. Luckily my friends complete this hike annually. I wasn't sure that I could handle this climb, but turns out that I was much stronger that I thought. It is strenuous at times and the cardio workout is real, but the reward at the top is so worth it. The views are epic from viewing the entire Red Rock Canyon and seeing way out toward Mt. Potosi. In the other direction seeing through Brownstone Canyon up to Mt. Charleston Peak. This hike also includes some stunning views of our beautiful city. I can only imagine how pretty it would be up here at sunset, but never mind going down would be way to challenging. It was super light traffic at this time on a Sunday so I made it to the Red Springs turnoff at 6AM on the dot. There isn't a clearly marked route so I recommend you go with someone who has done this before. If you go alone, when in doubt, head up! Be careful of loose rocks and wear sturdy shoes. The view from the top is beautiful and overlooks the scenic loop and the strip. You can see the contrast of the city and the mountains. It's stunning and colorful.
