DOGS ARE LEFT ALONE AFTER RECEIVING GENERAL ANESTHESIA I scheduled an appointment here for my dog to get her teeth cleaned and a dead tooth pulled. They told me I could drop her off at 8:00am and pick her up at 3:00. Turns out they don't open until 8:30, which wasn't a big deal. I called to check on her at 1:45. The receptionist informed me that all staff was out to lunch and would not be back until 3:00 but she was sure the dog was fine since the vet checked on her before she left. I tried to clarify because I couldn't believe my dog was left completely alone with no trained vet staff in the building, but she was... I immediately drove over to pick my dog up. The receptionist was extremely rude and told me she could not release Abby to me. The vet was called and I was allowed to take her. I was told they don't normally allow people to pick up dogs this early because they NEED TO BE MONITORED!!!!! When I got out I realized that they hadn't even pulled the tooth which I reminded them of when I dropped Abby off that morning read more

I've been taking my pets to Oak Creek Vet for 5 years now. I highly recommend them. I especially appreciate Dr Boos. The care they give my pets is above and beyond. Their prices are the most reasonable I've found. When I first moved to Columbus, I took my dog to two other Vets that were all about the money and found out later they would do unnecessary tests. We really like going here. My lab Fenway always gets fawned over by the staff despite her high-energy craziness that comes with being a puppy! Their waiting area is fairly small but you can always hang out in the yard out front if that makes your pup or kitty too nervous when other pets are in the room. Her spaying went well with no issues and reasonably priced ~ $150 including some medications. I prefer Dr. Kathy the most, I find her the most warm and welcoming and the staff as well. I've had my pup in for a couple different infections, both times which were properly explained to me and the medications were given to me right on site. I even had to call Dr. Kathy's cell phone one morning early because Fenway had gotten into the ibuprofen (very bad!) and she instructed me how to induce vomiting and make sure it got out of Fenway's system. read more

This is by far my favorite vet in Columbus. Even after I moved away from Westerville I kept going to Oak Creek. The staff is very knowledgeable and welcoming, and the doctors are great resources. I was a first time owner of a house cat and we were having some problems adjusting to each other so I mentioned this to the vets and they offered great advice on house breaking my cat. They were patient and kind in their explanations, and I never felt rushed. This is a busy place, so one bit of advice: tears are not uncommon in the waiting room. Each time I was there something horribly sad happened: someone had his dog euthanized; a family came in with a towel wrapped around a heartbreakingly still puppy that had just been hit by a car; a lady with shiny eyes petting her cat while trying to cope with the bad news she just received. The doctors and staff were extremely understanding and tried to help in each case, even offering the examination rooms as a place to mourn privately. That said, if you're sensitive to these situations or if you have children that are, it's probably best to avoid the waiting room as much as possible. read more

I started going here because a friend took her pets there and she could not recommend them highly enough! I have seen all 3 vets, but usually see Dr. Kara. We have 4 dogs and 1 cat, so we seem to be regular visitors. Regarding Brett P's review - I've been in there many times and have only one time seen an emergency come in the door. Folks who are mourning don't wait in the waiting room - the two times I brought ones in, we just went right to the waiting room. Maybe those were exceptional situations he saw, but I've never seen them. Yes, it is a busy place, however the vets always take their time and you never feel rushed out of the exam room. One other thing I never liked about other vets is when they would take my animal away and give her shots or whatever treatment. Everything is done with you there. Prices are very reasonable, which is one of the main reasons I started going there, but the vets (and the staff) are definitely why I'm still going. read more

Friday, 3/27/15, was my first time ever going to this place with my 15 year old cat, Patches, and unfortunately I will never go again. My appointment was at 4pm, and I was told to arrive a few minutes early to fill out paperwork since we were new. I arrived a few minutes early and filled out the paperwork. And then we waited and waited. We waited in a waiting room full of other patrons with their loud, hyper, barking dogs. My poor cat was petrified as she is small and only knows our 1 other cat and dog at the house. At around 4:30 they took one couple and their huge American bulldog to their own room to wait in because the dog was sliding over the floor because he wouldn't sit still and wanted to attack every other dog that came into the room. Right when I was getting ready to get up and leave at 4:48 we got called to go into a room, where we then waited some more, until 5:15, where I got a small apology from the vet. I know it wasn't her fault and that things happen, but I was never told how long I would be waiting, or how far behind they were running behind. I am very disappointed, as I drive by this place every day and it's very close to my home. Also, the vet was listening to Patches' heartbeat and said she was breathing very fast, and I tried to tell her that my cat was very nervous and afraid as she is never outside, or in a cage, or around other animals, but the vet just brushed it off saying she bets that Patches breathes heavy when she's at home; well she's on my lap now and as usual she's breathing her normal, slow and steady pace. read more

While the veterinary staff is excellent, their customer service staff need training. A particular woman who works at the front desk is incredibly rude. Oak Creek deserves a better face for their brand and better support for their customers. read more

I've been taking my "many" cats to Oakcreek Vet for over 15 years now. I would not go anywhere else. I've had new kittens, as well as end of life senior cats. They are all well cared for and the staff is always very caring. There are times that I've had to wait longer than others but I realize that if my animal needed extra time, the staff would take it, and that would indeed put the entire place behind schedule. I had to write because yesterday, I took my 5 year old cat for her yearly check-up and shots. She was extremely nervous and had an accident in her carrier on the way there. I was able to clean her up a little before the vet came in but it was clear that they are used to this and didn't make a big deal. Dr. Bill took the time to pet, talk to, and soothe my cat to calm her down before even beginning her exam. This meant a lot to me! read more

This is a really good vet hospital. Dr. Kathy Nelson has always done a great job in caring for my cat. The first time I brought him in he had serious skin problems and a strange growth in his mouth. She was conservative in his treatment and it all worked out great. His growth is gone and his coat is beautiful. She did not push for expensive surgery or other needless and risky treatment. I greatly appreciated her honesty and was impressed by her knowledge, and obviously she is very experienced. Now my cat comes in for exams and boosters every three years. read more

My mother had to have her beloved dog put to sleep yesterday. The appointment was at 5:15pm. The vet didn't see us until almost 6pm. My mother had to wait around with her dog for 45 minutes, with no communication from the staff as to why it was taking so long. This waiting was prolonging an already terrible and sad situation. When finally taken into the room, Dr. Nelso came in, said nothing to my mother about what was about to happen, offered no kind words of support, nor said anything to her dog. She said "when I put dogs to sleep I want them to be on the table". My mom said that she wanted to hold the dog. Dr. Nelson said nothing and proceeded with the procedure. She then said she would leave the room and come back later to check the dog. We watched as a member of the family slipped away, knowing it was the right decision but still very distraught. I gently covered the dog with the blanket. My mother, who is also caring for my very ill father at home, had only her dog to bring laughter to her life as a caregiver. Dr Nelson came back to the room to check on the dog and said that he couldn't be covered up. I didn't want my mom to have to stare at her deceased pet anymore so it was distressing when Dr Nelson took the blanket off. After the process was over, Dr Nelson just left the room. Not once did she say "I am sorry for your loss," or..."I know how hard this is." Anything....just completely void of emotion. When I was paying/checking out, I mentioned to the office staff that the experience was very cold and uncaring. I was told that Dr Nelson does this every day and she can't break down in front of the clients. I stated that I didn't expect the doctor to cry but a kind word showing compassion and empathy wasn't too much to ask. My mother returned to the office and asked the office staff if anyone even cared what people experienced at this time? The office staff said in a rather direct, stern tone...."I haven't even had a chance to talk to you, you just walked out." This angered me even more because now the staff was acting defensive. Again, no one offered ANY words of kindness. When my mother left again to wait in the car the office staff told me that we would get a card from their office so they will acknowledge what happened. Cards are fine...but a few short words would have made this terrible situation a little less painful. I would not recommend this practice or Dr Nelson. The lack of bedside manner, compassion and tenderness at this very sad time for my family will never be forgotten. read more

Today my dog need surgery for removal of a fatty tumor. I cannot say enough about the great treatment she received from the staff. The vet also took his time to explain how it went. Have been taking all of my cats to this clinic since 2004. We always receive great care from both the doctors and the staff. It's clear that they care about what they're doing and about the animals they treat. We've lost a few pets, and gained a few, during these years so they've seen a lot of us. Even after I moved to another county I continued to take my dog to Oak Creek. I have to admit that I did try the veterinary clinic that is right around the corner from my house but only once and I returned to Oak Creek for the personal attention that Dr Nelson and Staff always give the animals in their care. I recently had to take Riley in for that final visit. Dr Kathy was very patient providing several options and gave us all the time we needed to say good-bye. A few days ago we received a very special card from Dr Nelson and staff with our dogs paw print, his name, and the date he passed. Such a thoughtful gesture that means so much to us.
