Zachary was amazing, the first visit we had to wait awhile in the car. Zachary came out and made sure that my dog was still doing okay. He is so nice, treated my pup like his own. The other receptionist was amazing as well, I sadly didn't get her name to mention in this review. We had Katie T. As our assistant for the doctor. She was great with our pup. Update: I strongly suggest patients take their babies to another vet office. Over a week later, I STILL have received no communication from the manager nor any call back from the vet about my baby's bloodwork. I only received a voicemail from the receptionist Marissa (who is not allowed/permitted to communicate the bloodwork to me) about how they are busy due to the holiday and to expect a call. This call has still not been made by the manager nor the vet to communicate my cats bloodwork about heart disease. Disappointed. I have taken my babies here for the last few years, and recently this year they have dropped the ball. My oldest cat had bloodwork done, no communication had been received about bloodwork results. Not only have they not communicated bloodwork, but when I visited in April, i mentioned an issue of my cat itching themselves and over grooming. My cat apparently had fleas and although the receptionist said there were notes claiming they communicated flea treatments, I never actually was communicated the need of flea treatments or anything. The receptionist Marissa was rude and was not very attentive when i told her the issue, she just repeated information i had mentioned, like the appointment being in April and was trying to say that my cat must have gotten fleas AFTER when she has been itching and excessively grooming. I called Wednesday and was told both a vet and the manager would contact me regarding the issue, and to communicate the bloodwork I paid for; no one has given me any call back whatsoever. I expressed how now I have to treat my house AND my other cat because of their negligence and I have wasted my money on a blood exam they havent given me results to, when i paid a lot of money to get treatment and for the vet visit. My dog got the bladder stones. The Vet saw them on the X-ray when looking for something else. I asked my dog why she didn't say anything about them. She was afraid she would need surgery. Well she had the surgery and was really mad at me. The staff at West Vet have been so kind and supportive though. Everything went well. Things look good now. Finding a place that is open in the evening that doesn't charge you hundreds just to walk in at 10pm is often a challenge. Look no more... this place is staffed with talented and caring people and the walk in emergency exam is under 170 then add any medicine or treatments added to that figure My dog Mo began throwing up and continued to vomit for almost a day. When he started throwing up blood I knew i didn't want to go to Med Vet- too expensive. OSU seemed too far away for a dog vomited blood every 15 - 20 min So, I called my friend and she referred me here. So glad she did. When you drive in, they have their own lot. Lots of handicapped spacing, a good sized area for dogs to poop, they even provide bags and a poop bin. Inside the waiting room and exam rooms are very clean and comfortable. After you speak to the receptionist you will be escorted to a private room. The tech comes in fairly quickly and not only is super helpful but very comforting-as she can tell owners hate to see their fur babies in pain. My dog was taken back to see the vet -who came in afterwards with an estimate. The vet suspected pancreatitis, which is what the lab work confirmed. She returned and explained further treatment. Made sure I understood all that this entails. Gave him meds. Gave him special food and then followed up both via email and phone. Was very impressed with Dr Van Kan and her entire staff. They truly treat both the animal and the person as equals, giving both respect and kindness. Emergency rooms for animals can be pretty expensive just to walk in the door. At Westerville Animal Clinic the fee for exam starts at roughly 170... much cheaper than MedVet and OSU. Their ER is open until 1am, but they have someone on staff 24 hrs, monitoring patients and receiving phone calls. I spent roughly 800 to have blood work drawn, an exam, iv hydration, anti nausea medicine administered, anti diarrhea medicine, then was sent home with five prescription meds, large bag of prescription kibble and about 6-8 cans of wet food. As someone who has gone to both MedVet and OSU iI feel Westerville Veterinarian Clinic's pricing was very reasonable. I want to add: This clinic also treats pets for regular appointments but those are during their regular day hours. Its not just an ER. Its a fantastic practice. Thank you Westerville Veterinarian Clinic! My dog is much more comfortable and now that we have identified what the problem is, we can begin to manage his long term care effectively. read more

My family has been going to Westerville Veterinary Clinic since I was a kid and remember all our pets seeing Dr Stoutin there over the years. As an adult, I have had one fur baby who we unfortunately had to let go earlier this week at the age of almost 15, but he went to Westerville Veterinarian Clinic since he was a young pup. We also used their boarding services for years. Not sure if they still do this, but Moose Lee would always get a report card when he would get home after the week to put on the refrigerator and it was the cutest thing! The staff is generally amazing, compassionate, and I would definitely recommend them. Like most businesses they seemed to have some slight growing pains with quality of care due to the pandemic but never anything major. We've been taking our pets to Westerville Veterinary for many years. We've also always purchased the platinum healthcare from them - for both dogs it's about $170 per month. Went to get flee, tick & heartworm meds today and they wanted to draw blood on the 9 month old pup, I also asked for a nail trim. They brought her back a little later and said she was too jumpy and they couldn't do the blood draw or nails....jumpy? No kidding, she's a puppy. Even though the insurance would cover the spay, they insisted on a $100 deposit. Why? Because some people don't show up. Ok, that's not us and I wasn't going to pay it. I had also been there for 30 minutes when they told me that. I was upset and let the 'f' bomb fly - darn it. The front desk girl was so upset she kept saying I had no right to talk to her that way. ONE word and she kept going on about it even after I asked her to walk away when the other front desk person was helping me. Nope, she was doing her job but how dare I talk to her that way. Get a grip, I wasn't nasty, just said u wasn't going to pay a deposit and we wouldn't be returning. They didn't make any attempt to work with me or back down on a deposit. Makes me think they are hurting for $$. Now I know the vet is going to have a snarky response, because you can read other reviews where he's not been super professional. I realize we are no longer working under the assumption that the customer is always right, but there has to be something other than saying 'get lost' nicely and maybe talking about why a long time customer has to pay a deposit. I've held off writing about what happened with Sasha until I am less emotional and clear. It's eight days now..... so I've had time to look at her death in a clearer way. It was horrible. Terrible. And I blame Westerville Veterinary practice for making a procedure I've been through too many time to count. We're in our 70's and we've always had cats and dogs. Always. And we've had to make the humane decisions for our loved ones. It's broken our hearts numerous times. But that's the price you pay for love. I've gone with close friends to help them through it because I can be level headed when need be. When we went in last Sunday Sasha was visibly sick and scared. I held her when she would let me. we were friends for fifteen years. She thought she had to mother me and would put her paw on my hand in bed every night letting me know she had me safe. I used to laugh about it but she was on guard while I slept... silly old girl. I had called WV before we went it to arrange the euthanasia. We had money. First came the vet tech with her booming voice. I kindly asked her to tone it down. She did. Then came the vet. She did her checkup. Left. Came back with another vet tech and a front desk woman with the little machine to run our credit card. Now there's five people in a small exam room and my totally terrified girl. I'm crying by then. Vinny is paying up because I guess if you don't have the funds then and there you're shit out of luck for euthanasia. Or treatment. they know us there. We have five cats. We pretty much have paid two or three thousand dollars to them over the few years we've been going. And we would have been good for the money if they billed us LIKE EVERY OTHER VET PRACTICE WE'VE ASSOCIATED WITH. They did not need to come in to get paid. We weren't running out. They could have asked us to arrange payment AFTER my girl was put down. Oh it continues. It continues. I was holding my Sash when the vet gave her the intramuscular sedation. My cat went wild with fear and pain. Wild. I laid her down and we comforted her until she was asleep. Then the vet had to find a vein for the euthanasia meds. And she couldn't. Sasha was dehydrated. Finally.... FINALLY she gave our girl the meds to let her go. We have never experienced something that horrible happening to one of ours. They've all gone gently with us there in a quiet quick calm fashion. I've waited to talk about this because I was so emotional and I wanted to be clear. We went to put up Sasha's ashes and they were closed. It's not about the money. It's about the heartlessness. read more

This was a very bad experience for me and my puppy. I brought a brand new 8 week old puppy for its first visit and to get started on some vaccines. Not once did the vet or tech give my dog a treat or try to make it feel comfortable. Instead, they manipulated and prodded my dog and called her "stubborn" when she wiggled just a little for the thermometer. On top of this, I had to repeat myself to multiple different people in order to get what I came for. This was super disappointing, especially considering their website mentions "force free". Vets are scary enough for dogs, but there is a lot that can be done to make it more okay - instead my puppy was more terrified. I spent too much money to be unhappy with the service. They are just out to make money and Take advantage of pet owners in desperate times. They advertise free nail trims but will only do them if your dog is up to date with all vaccines. My dog was up to date with all vaccines with the exception of a flu shot. They told me they would trim his nails for free but I have to spend $80 of a flu shot for my dog. My dog is not around other dogs that he needs a flu shot. When I called to schedule a yearly appointment for his shots, no flu shot was needed And they had no issue trimming his nails. I went here in late 2021, with the pandemic setup of dropping your pet off and doing it over the phone. I want to give them some leeway because I know the pandemic is hard. But they were late to the appointment by 20 minutes, and then they delivered a $225 bill, but the vet couldn't talk to me about any of it because he was busy. I have left two calls with their office asking for a basic update on how my dog is doing, which I think should take 5 minutes, but all I have heard is they are busy and don't have time for me. This is the most expensive vet visit I have ever had, even though my dog is 100% healthy, and I am fine paying a higher rate so long as the care is professional. For a vet who is suppose to care about animals, that is not our experience with Westerville Veterinary Clinic. We have a 15 year old cat who has been having some issues with his back legs, probably arthritis. We took him in to see what the vet had to say. They wanted to do blood tests and send us to a neurologist. We asked for the cost of those and it was well into the thousands . . . for our 15 year old cat. We just wanted to manage his pain and make his last few years comfortable. That appointment alone cost over $250 just for them to see him. They did provide a few pain meds but now that we want more for our cat, they want another $250 from us in addition to the over priced blood work for a few more pain meds. This whole process will need to repeat again in a few months. This clinic wants a monthly recurring income from our 15 year old cat, they really don't care about our pet, just their pocket book. read more

No reviews yet? I'm surprised I'm the first. As the owner of an elderly, senile dog and 3 cats...and having moved a number of times in the past 5 years...I would say I've seen a number of vets. I even tried a few around Columbus before settling on Westerville Vet Clinic. I've worked with both Dr. Stoughton (for our dog) and Dr. Couling (for our cats). They are both very nice and willing to talk to you about anything. Our cats haven't had much issues, but our dog certainly has...Dr. Stoughton is comfortable with going against the traditional book in recommending treatments for our dog (such as not getting any more vaccinations due to his age). And he always explains WHY he is recommending a particular course of treatment. He was also the first one (after many mis-diagnosis from other vets) to really recognize that our dog was going senile and his behavioral change was attributed to that and assigned us medication that has been the first thing to help. The staff is also super nice and they all seem very happy to see me. They do have doggie daycare and boarding where the care seems to be excellent, although there are more "posh" options around Columbus for a similar price. Plus, the boarding staff is only available for a small selection of hours in the morning and evening. I have boarded there and would feel very comfortable doing it again, but have lately switched my business; but I will definitely continue to utilize their vet services! read more

My dog is a super jumping, high flying, beyond hyper hot mess. It was time for his yearly check-up, and to be honest, I was tired of messing around with his normal vet office not accepting credit/debit cards so I was on the hunt. Of course, I came to yelp to look and this place seemed like a great place to start. I called to make an appointment. The young lady that answered the phone was very professional & very friendly. She got me in on the day I needed & at the perfect time. On the way back to my fur baby's room they attempted to get my dog's weight. I say attempted because, true to his nature, he was all over the place and refused to hold still to get an accurate reading. They were very patient with him and didn't make a fuss over his behavior (thank goodness!!). They then took us back to his room where he could hear other dogs barking, which made him even more excited and more hyper. When the vet came in he jumped all over him (in a nice, playful manner). My dog was so excited & nervous that they had to bring in another young man to help the vet hold him still so they could do the examination. They finally got his temperature & vitals. They took him to another room to trim his nails and test his poop for parasites. I was emailed within an hour with the poop test results. They even gave my dog some treats & my son a sucker. When the emergency vet that was on call this morning (2/4/20) called back, he was rude off the bat. The vet techs are very kind, informative, and caring. Every time I come in they are always helpful and understanding. The veterinarian that owns this clinic is the opposite. Yes, he cared for my injured dog, but made me feel about an inch tall. He was not kind nor empathetic towards me. He has horrible bedside manner and is very judgemental. I don't recommend their health care plan because it will only cover 1 emergency visit in 12 months and anything more is up to the veterinarian owner's discretion. Emergencies are just that and never planned that's why I thought their plan was a good option. I was wrong and learned about it at the worst time. The staff here is so clueless and every time I order a prescription it never gets filled until I call them 2 weeks later and start asking about it. We have been seeing one vet for a little over a year, and she became used to my cat (who hates the vet). Last time I went in they sent in a new vet who had no idea about my cat and I had to explain everything all over again and ended up paying money to them to just give them a rundown on everything that has happened over the past year. All of that just to get my existing prescription renewed. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! It has taken me a little bit to write this review. I don't even know where to start with how wonderful this place is and the people that work there!! We unfortunately had to put both of our dogs down within a 2 1/2 week time period due to cancer. Every single person in that office was so caring and so wonderful to both of our dogs and to us! You could tell that it affected them also. When we took our second one in, during the process, Dr. Couling sat there on the floor with us throughout the whole process. She and the vet tech were both tearing eyed with us. And she, (Dr. Couling), gave us such encouraging words during the whole process. Every single person in that office was affected and you could tell. They were wonderful! I really just don't have the words to convey how much I adore everyone that works there!! I encourage everyone that has a pet in this area that wants to have a vets office that truly cares about your pets..... go here!!! We still have our cat and I will continue to go this this office! I brought my cat here after she got hurt in a fall. They truly cared more about the animal than they did the money. Highly recommended!

These people were great. Had a last minute emergency with one of our cats. We're able to see her, her her taken care of super fast even though they were busy. And were well priced. Loved the staff and all so much I wanted to use them for dog sitting for Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, they don't have many kennels and weren't able to accommodate my 50 lb dog last minute. So that was a bit of a bummer. However, I love these people so far. My new vet! read more
