I came in for an oil change and also asked about an issue with my driver's seat. Every time I get into the car, the seat automatically moves all the way back, which makes it impossible for the passenger behind me to get in. I brought this up during my visit, and I was told I would need to make an entirely separate appointment just to look at the seat, which I think is pretty ridiculous considering I was already there. What's more frustrating is that I actually booked an appointment months ago specifically for this seat issue, and I was told at that time that it was fixed--clearly it wasn't. That said, the staff themselves were very nice and polite. I just wish the issue had been taken more seriously and actually resolved, especially after waiting so long. read more

Last month I visited Napleton's Oak Lawn Mazda Service Center for a quick oil change. They're not my usual spot for car maintenance, but I had a family emergency out of state and wanted to take care of it before heading out the next morning for my 8-hour drive. My usual trusted spot was booked, NOLM had open appointments, so I figured, why not? I even drove nearly an hour out of my way to get there. (Spoiler alert: I should've kept driving.) My car was running like a dream before this visit, smooth, quiet, zero issues. After the oil change, as I headed home, I started hearing a weird little sound when. At first, I thought maybe it was just a noisy car near me. Nope. It was mine. By the time I hit the highway for my trip, the sound had graduated from "hmm" to "uh-oh." Acceleration was off, and the engine was making noises it had NEVER made before. I could hear the gears shifting prominently like I was suddenly driving a 20-year-old stick shift. Not exactly the soundtrack I wanted for my emergency road trip. I called Napleton's from the road. The service rep told me that since it was just an oil change, the tech wouldn't have touched anything that could cause this (because oil changes happen in a magical vacuum, apparently). He also said it would cost me $185 for them to do a diagnostic. I politely declined to pay this fee. Why should I pay to investigate an issue that started immediately after their service? The follow-up was scheduled for the Monday after my Sunday return. Fast forward: I get to Kansas City, and the car is practically gasping for air. After a bit of diligent research, I find a reputable shop, HUGE shout out to KC Brakes & Auto. Kevin the owner, discovered that the air filter was incorrectly placed, leaving a gap in the housing and choking off proper airflow to the engine. He fixed it and only charged me $43 and some change. My car was immediately back to normal, quiet, smooth, and happy. Like nothing ever happened. I canceled my follow-up with Napleton's and called them to explain what happened. I asked if they'd cover the $43 I paid to fix the issue their technician created. The service manager refused, offering only a service credit, because he "couldn't verify" the issue since I didn't bring the car back to them. Right... because obviously, I was supposed to drive 8 hours back with my car wheezing and dragging like it had just run a marathon! I don't plan on ever taking my car back to Napleton's, and more to the point, it's about the principle and accountability of it all, which this manager lacks. To top it off, when I got back to Chicago, I took my car to my trusted service center to replace a rear stabilizer link that Napleton's had quoted me on. The repair cost me $35 less than their quote. Bottom line! I went in for a quick oil change and left with a performance problem, a mechanic bill in another state, and a whole lot of unnecessary stress during a family emergency. Next time, I'll wait for a slot at my usual trusted service center, because peace of mind is worth more than an open appointment. #Napleton'sNotIt! read more

I recently purchased a pre-owned car from Napleton Mazda Oak Lawn, and it was one of the worst dealership experiences I've ever had. The dealership didn't even provide a full tank of gas. The finance employee, Jason Blons, was extremely rude and dismissive--he told me he was "the money guy" and that my concerns (like the missing gas) weren't his problem. When I returned a few days later to finish my down payment, he greeted me with "Do you have my money?" and made a derogatory "making it rain" comment. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful. If I could return the car, I would. I will never return to this dealership and strongly advise others to take their business elsewhere. read more

I bought a 2020 CX 5 here in 2020. I have never been in until last week when i got two new tires. Once I left, the car was knocking and shaking. The shaking made the timing cover break, causing an oil leak. They made me tow the car back out of my own pocket. They have had it for 5 days and still can not get a real ETA when it will be ready. I also asked for info on trading it in for something newer if I could keep my payment the same. I was simply handed a piece of paper and told its $100 higher. No one wanted to talk through it or see if we can figure something out. They sent me on my way. It was obvious they had zero interest in doing business with me or selling me a car. I had one of the worst dealership experiences at Napleton Oak Lawn Mazda and feel obligated to share, especially for anyone traveling from out of town like I did. I took a day off work and drove over 3 hours after confirming with a salesman named Leo that the vehicles I was interested in would be available. When I arrived, I was told the manager I was supposed to ask for (Don Smith) was on vacation. That already made things feel disorganized and unprofessional. I was then assisted by Danny, who started out friendly but quickly made the experience uncomfortable. He overshared personal details about his life, made unnecessary comments about my current vehicle (calling it "cheap" and "made of plastic"), and dismissed my interest in test-driving another car (a Honda HR-V), saying I "wouldn't like it." I never even got the chance to try it. When I asked to take the Mazda CX-5 on the freeway, I was told I couldn't because "if a rock hits the paint and you don't buy it, we'd have to fix it and the value goes down." That felt unreasonable, how am I supposed to evaluate a car without a full test drive? During the drive, I also noticed Danny's personal vehicle had an expired license plate sticker, which didn't reflect well on someone representing a car dealership. When I mentioned it, he replied, "Oh yeah, I gotta get that fixed." Back inside, the pressure began. Danny kept pushing me to disclose my budget and finances, even after I clearly told him I didn't need to go into that yet. I just wanted to explore numbers based on the car I was interested in and compare that with my credit union's offers. He wouldn't let it go. Eventually, I stepped out briefly with my sister, and when I returned just to retrieve my car key, Danny refused to give it to me unless I signed another document. I asked what it was, and he said it was part of the credit check authorization I had already signed earlier. What scared me most was that he told me, very firmly and more than once, that I could not leave the building without signing the paper. His tone changed, he was visibly red in the face, and the way he spoke to me felt aggressive and threatening. I felt cornered and extremely uncomfortable. I signed the paper just to get my key and leave. Danny later apologized but only with excuses. He said his managers told him to say that and that he had been "chewed out" for not getting the signature earlier. There was no real accountability. The manager I dealt with, Carlos, was cold and dismissive and never followed up after I voiced my concerns the next day. This entire experience was draining and inappropriate. I came in prepared, respectful, and serious about purchasing--but I left feeling disrespected, pressured, and completely disregarded. While I did not purchase a car because ultimately it was not big enough for my family. I will say the salesman I engaged with, Leo was superb. Friendly, very knowledgeable about the product, financing options etc. He was not at all the stereotypical car salesman. The receptionist was also warm and friendly the place was very nice. I literally had zero complaints and actually liked Leo so much I wanted to at least write a really nice review since the car just wasn't what we needed and Mazda doesn't make a bigger SUV. With all that said- if you are looking for a vehicle comparable to a Honda CRV or other midsize SVU the CX-9 is worth it!!!! My interactions with Napleton dealerships over the years have been invariably negative, and they continue to disappoint. I booked a service appointment online, which I had to reschedule due to a sudden work issue, and subsequently canceled an hour later due to uncertainty for the remainder of the day. When I returned to reschedule, the entire week was blocked out, though there had been dozens of openings an hour earlier. I went on a different computer using different credentials and all the available times showed up. So Napleton punishes you for rescheduling twice by locking you out of appointments for a full week. My dad and sister signed off on a CX30 we shook hands with the salesman, signed the paper and everything. e were ready to come and grab it the next day to take it home. My dad called them just to check on something with the insurance that morning and they had the audacity to say that they didn't want to give us the car anymore even after we payed a down payment and signed off. They weren't even planning on calling us to tell us that we wouldn't get the car, I guess they were planning to just break the news to us when we got to the dealership to get it. Please READ MY FIRST REVIEW for the entire circus this place put me through. I purchased my car about 18 months ago, but I was rear ended recently at a red light. So I took it in for repairs. Now when I purchased my car the bumper was damaged. I had to bring it back to Mazda Oak Lawn to get it replaced. That is even stated in my contract. They didn't replace it, they repaired it with bondo and painted the original bumper on my car. That was never told to me. Additionally, an old friend purchased a car here and literally took photos of my name and all my personal info on the bulletin board right where anyone who walked in could get it. Now this was someone I hadn't talked to in a while and so they didn't know of my terrible experience. Absurd that is what connected us again. read more

These people are wonderful when they are selling you a car. Nice people. But try to have any work done on a Saturday and they couldn't care less. I had an emergency situation where the front bumper (a cheap piece of thin metal) and come off partially and was dragging on the ground, making the car undrivable. I called and asked if they could just quickly screw the part back on. Nope . "Too busy." A five minute job. I will never, ever buy a car here again. A similar thing happened a year ago with another emergency situation, and I was told to get lost. I understand that it was last minute. They didn't take the car simply because they didn't have to. When I reviewed the documents at home, the financial agent still added the tax, and fees plus other fees he did not explained. My fault is I didnt checked them closely exactly right before I grabbed the pen to sign. I have other mazda cars from other mazda delear, and never had issues. Dont come to this place. I bought Mazda CX-5 with full cash down payment last weekend. I was not offered any of the amenities such as oil-change, car and cargo mats, roof rails, etc as a courtesy. I have spoken to several Mazda owners, both in person and over Internet, and they have all got something like this as a courtesy. Further, the sales agent spoke as if one of these is going to be offered, but after I signed the deal they were curt and said nothing could be done. I don't think these matter to me but as a business it's not a good thing to treat customers WAY DIFFERENTLY before and after the deal. The finance guy was smug and HORRIBLE. He had a bad attitude about everything! He behaved as he is some economics PhD and I don't know anything. It IS HIS JOB to answer ALL my questions. Instead, he kept making faces when I asked him questions about the disclaimer and agreement. I wanted to walk out but at this point I just wanted to get over with it because I did not have the time or patience to deal with another horrible car dealer (news flash: most car dealers are horrible!). FWIW, I have a PhD. I don't remember the name of the horrible finance guy who thought he was too cool. He is NOT! But the sales guy I dealt with is Dennis. Dennis was nice UNTIL I signed the deal and then he became smug. Brian, his manager, on the other hand, was consistently smug from the beginning. I don't recommend them them to anyone because of the poor service and bait and switch tactics. I visited the showroom and had a fine experience, but it all went downhill after that when I ready to buy. I was negotiating over phone with my sales rep for a brand new car only to be brushed off by a manager named Andy who insinuated I wasn't a "serious" buyer, even though I was prepared to put a deposit down that day and could have been an easy sale. He insisted I come back into the showroom, which I did one business day later. When the new rep MJ gave me the pricing sheet with financing options, it included a higher interest rate than I was initially quoted and even discussed 3 minutes prior, included services that I never discussed with them or wanted included, and most appalling the actual car price was well over $1k more than what we had already agreed on. Bottom line: they use bait and switch tactics, used the interest rate and other services as negotiation tactics against me, and didn't even acknowledge any of it. I'm so glad I didn't buy from them. read more

I was charged for a plate transfer, and title fee and they collected the money but never paid for them. I went to renew my plates and they were still registered under my old car. Luckily I was never pulled over or the car and plates would not have matched. I had to pay an additional fee out of pocket to get me title transferred since they collected the money and never paid for either. Almost 500 paid to them originally and an additional 160 paid later to the state by me out of pocket. I have called and sent emails with no reply and there has to be someone who cares this dealership is collecting money for the state and not paying it, instead pocketing it! This would all be fine if they would respond and give me back the money I paid them for something they never did and I have to pay for a second time on my own. read more

My wife took a test drive a few days ago in one of their used vehicles and subsequently offered the price they were asking in their advertisement if they could give us 17k on our trade in. They called her back and accepted the terms only to tell her after she made the trip back to the dealership to close the deal that they had made a mistake on the listing price and tried to charge her 4k more than the agreed upon price. Previous posts have mentioned one of the salesmen, Julian Perez. I wish I could attach the handwritten breakdown of charges that he tried to pass off as legitimate. His $1291 dealer prep charge was particularly egregious. If that's not enough, he represented that the car we were interested in had a "clean car fax" history when in fact it had been in an accident which to me is fraudulent. My son was a first time car buyer. We came to Mazda with our son to see a 2017 used car with a fair price. After test driving and given the figures to the price there was an accessory charge of 1495.00 when questioned about it they said it was a certified car and this was the charge for it. We asked them to remove this charge they would only take off 500 leaving 995.00 accessory charge. I never heard of such a charge. Needless to say we did not buy this car. They draw you in with a fair price and then add extra charges to your final bill. Bait you to come in then try to cheat you. Do not trust them. After leaving and reflecting on our experience I am so glad we did not give them our business. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

Well, if the bevy of one-star reviews for this dealership haven't swayed you yet, let me throw another one on top of it. My girlfriend and I traveled down to 95th for some weekend lunching from the loop area. After our lunch, we were dismayed to find out that her car had broken down. Ok, well, stuff happens. We get towed to the nearest dealership which is Oak Lawn Mazda. Upon our arrival via tow truck, no one comes out to talk to us despite there being at least eight employees in the store and maybe one customer. Unfortunately for us the service area had closed for the day and no one would be able to check up on the car until the next day. Ok, I get that, the service desk has to close sometime. But guess what Oak Lawn Mazda employees? We're still your customers. My girlfriend drives a Mazda, and more so it should be painfully obvious we were in a rough spot. Far, far from home with no way to get back. And yet, everyone just ignored us. I brought my girlfriend to a nearby Starbucks since she was obviously distraught by the situation. I marched back in and asked what they could do for us. The best they could do? Drive us across the street to the car rental shop. And we wouldn't even get reimbursed for the rental because their service manager was out. In the end, all I got out of them was the number for a taxi company that I had to ask for. They couldn't even reimburse that? Or even call them for me? A few years ago my sister had a Mazda 6, but soon changed over to a Honda. From here on out, I'll never recommend a Mazda ever again. This place is full of scum who would rather see their clients walk alone outside in a strange neighborhood than make sure they get home safely. read more

I've had the car for two months, I've had to go back two times, due to errors on their part. They offered to fill my gas tank for my inconvenience and that didn't happen either. They assured me everything was cleared up and I wouldn't have anymore problems. Quote from Andrew the dealer, "I will make sure that everything is worked out." He did not. DO NOT TRUST THEM! All they care about is the sale. No one ever had time to help until they needed something from me. Two months and I still haven't received my statement and now accrued a late fee. Also, all the info is under my co-signers name and it's as if i don't exist on the account. All this AFTER they assured me that wouldn't happen. I wish I could just return the car. Both gentleman worked hard to get me in my dream car. And when I had a few concerns several days after bringing my vehicle home, Jose, Julian, and the service department addressed each of them to my satisfaction. The car buying process is tough; much of the heavy lifting falls on the consumer to be as educated as possible. But if you have done your due diligence and are ready to purchase a new car, I would definitely recommend the team at Oak Lawn Mazda. read more

I have had horrible experiences there ever since purchasing my car in December. It started when I purchased my car and they refused to give me temporary plates (saying they "couldn't" do that, the first I've ever heard from ANY dealer). They then told me (incorrectly) that I could put one of the same plate on the back of my old and my new cars until I traded the old one in, which is actually illegal in Illinois; I discovered this is illegal when I acquired more than $200 in parking tickets in Chicago. Every single encounter I've had with them since has also been horrible. I just had work done on my car and had to have my wiper fluid receptacle replaced; I didn't discover until after I left that, of course, they never re-filled it. My sales agent, Luis, hasn't returned my calls or e-mails to him over the past few months, despite the repeated attempts to get a hold of him for various reasons. Clearly, once he made the sale, he doesn't care one bit about his [former] customers. Only Mike, the Sales Manager, has been actually helpful. Everyone else I've dealt with has been horrible. While they may be really great when trying to sell you a car, it's not worth the headache, frustration, and added cost to go here after that. Do yourself a favor and find another dealer, even if you have to drive a little farther away. read more

I bought my Mazda from this location a few years back. I made an appointment for a recall and to have an appraisal done. When I came to pick up my car today, I was told "The guy who did your appraisal does not want your car." That guy is Scott Ognar. I asked to speak with him, and without even saying hello, Scott came out of his office and said "Listen, I don't want your car. I said, "Scott, I asked how much my car is worth not if you want it." I also reminded him that my car was bought from this location in case he might not have known that and that was the reasoning for his rude and unprofessional behavior. Scott told me to go use Kelly Blue Books online. I asked him if this is how re represents the Mazda business and if he thinks his response to me is appropriate. Scott responded " I don't want your car so I'm not doing business with you." To top that off, they left my lights on after performing the recall and left my car with 0 miles left of gas "because they needed to replace the fuel pump for the recall." I called corporate and they refunded me the $150 I was charged for this "exam." The corporate representative said she gets complaints from this location all the time. PLEASE STAY SAFE, SAVE YOUR MONEY ADN TIME, AND DO NOT GO TO OAK LAWN MAZDA. You'll see me on a moped before you see me in a Mazda again. read more

I've bought 2 brand new MX5s here. The sales department is not the problem. But today I called to see if I could get an appointment for a Saturday (because I work M through F, like many other people do). I needed a quick evaluation of the recall issue (2016 MX5s), which the postcard I received said was a "20 minute fix". I also wanted to see why the emergency brake warning light kept coming on and why the key fob was not working properly and had suddenly developed a mind of its own. I was told that "we don't have enough guys working on Saturdays, and can't see you unless it's during the week. We can only do oil changes and stuff like that on Saturdays." I guess everyone else's mechanical problems are more important than mine. That's the message I got loud and clear. Wow. Well, I'll be finding another Mazda dealer with more than "2 technicians working on the weekend" to do the repairs. I do my car buying on Saturdays, too, so I guess I won't be bothering Oak Lawn Mazda any more for that, either. read more

I purchased a used VW Touareg Tdi from them 3 years ago. I know this is a bit late, but everything just came together to make sense. When I purchased the car, they agreed to put a new battery in it. They did, but come to find out last week, they went the cheap route with an underrated version of what it needed. It always seemed weak, and every now and then I'd have to throw a battery charger on it. But recently that didn't help so I went to Sam's Club and bought the rated battery and installed it myself. Upon taking the dead battery out and comparing it, I found the reason for all my troubles. They installed a 540 amp battery when it needed a 860 amp unit. For 3 years I've thought maybe the alternator is going or possibly the starter or something is shorted out causing the battery to discharge. Nope, they tried to save a few $$ and put in a cheap battery. I spent $38k+ and have had concerns all this time that was a $129.00 mistake they chose to do. I know their rebuttel will be it's the previous management/ owner or whatever. Just be cautious of what they agree to do meets the standard of what the vehicle requires. read more

Total Crooks. We purchased a used car from them a little over a year ago. They raved about their "inspection" process that all of their used cars go through the whole time we were there and insisted the car was in tip top shape. We requested a list of what they checked several times and they never gave it to us with the excuse that it was at their Naperville branch because the car was recently transferred to their location. They never got us the list or anything else that was in their "bag" that contains all of the details about the car. They also wouldn't let us take the car to a mechanic that was only blocks away from their dealership to have it checked out before we bought it. 3 weeks after purchasing the car we started to run into problems, and have kept having problems since then. Their so called "warantee" covers basically nothing, and we've spent thousands out of pocket fixing the car over and over again. read more

Let me start by saying that my first visit with Oak Lawn Mazda was in October 2015. I had seen a 2012 Nissan Rogue listed on cars.com for $16,000. I called and asked if it was still available and it was. My husband and I made our way there. We were looking to trade in my car. We got the appraisal on the trade in and we're content. So we started talking pricing. I mentioned that I had seen the Rogue and flat out asked what the lowest they could go was. After some back and forth they swore the lowest was $17k, per the GM who came out to greet us. I pulled out my phone and asked if this was the same vehicle. He had the audacity to tell me he would have to verify the price on his own. You pretty much just called me a liar to my face, but sure go ahead. He came back after 10 minutes of "research" and said that "as a courtesy" they would do the final sale price for the amount advertised on cars.com but that it was a mistake made my the Internet sales manager. I told him no thank you and left. Fast forward to mid December 2015. I had completely forgotten about the experience and thought nothing further of it. I get an email from cars.com saying one of the vehicles I had marked as my favorites was still available. I log in and low and behold the price has DROPPED by $2k!!! It is now listed on cars.com for $14k. So my husband and I schedule some time to go back. I explained on the phone that I had already been in and that I was looking to trade. I speak with Brad, new cars sales manager and the one that is in charge of doing the appraisal on trade ins. So he appraises my car and says he can match what they matched last time $13.5k! You would think this would seal the deal. When I ask about the Rogue, it's magically been sold. Mind you, I had called less than 2 hours prior to check if they still had it and I was told yes. Im 8 months pregnant, I wouldn't have bothered going if it wasn't still available. However, the Rogue is sitting in their parking lot but according to Bryan the salesman, he couldn't confirm it was sold but couldn't explain why it was still sitting in the lot. They try to show me other vehicles but I knew what I was going in for. So, I text my sister and asked her to call the dealer and ask if the Rogue is still available. She calls, speaks with one of the managers (rudest person there) who tells her it is still available and to stop by tomorrow to take a look at it. When I confront them about the Rogue he tries to tell me that he was referring to another Rogue they have. One that they never bothered to mention to me when I told them how interested I was in one. Point being, DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE LIED TO DIRECTLY IN YOUR FACE AND THEN HAVE THE GM LITERALLY WAVE YOU AWAY AS HE'S LEADING YOU OUT THE DOOR THEN CONTINUE TO LOOK AT YOU AS YOU LEAVE THE LOT. Never in my life have I felt as lied to, deceived, or insulted as Oak Lawn Mazda made myself and my husband feel. read more

Dishonest pricing-- the price listed online doesn't include a $1000 "used car inspection" fee. This is a made up fee that they created so they could list their cars for cheaper than they're actually willing to sell them for. The check engine light went on immediately after leaving the lot (on a 2013 35k mile car) and when my sales rep, Sam, finally called back, he told me to take it to a Kia dealer since it was under warranty. Talk about ownership.... Additionally, there was no spare key for a keyless entry vehicle, and no one told me until I was ready to drive off the lot. This key will be really expensive to replace. And then, when I escalated my concerns to Jayson, he told me to bring the car in and said he'd "try to help me out" with the key. He never followed up despite me asking about it a few times. read more

IF WE WOULD HAVE LOOKED AT THE PREVIOUS YELP COMMENTS BEFORE GOING, WE WOULD HAVE NEVER GONE THERE. I would give it a negative review if it was possible. Stay away from this location. So the so called manager at this location called Julian Perez told us a certain price for the car we inquired about. He said he has the cheapest price in Chicago area and to come over. However once we went there, they were very rude from the beginning. They wouldn't bring up the pricing of the car every time we asked "what is the pricing" They kept saying"we already told you, what is your problem?" I don't think that is how you talk to customers. Anyway, after the initial encounters, and 1 hour of test drive (which we told them we don't need because we already drove it) they came to discuss the pricing. The price was way off than what was told to us, then as the previous yelpers said they started adding ($500 royalty+$799 for vin check+995 destination fee + other fees). Upon asking them why didn't they tell us all these charges which constitute the actual vehicle cost over the phone? They argued saying " you did not ask". The nail in the coffin was when the "manager" who is supposed to handle customer relations well to make a sale came over and told us, "I will throw you out to the 95th Street without a car" three times while pointing his fingers at us. This happened right after we handed him the keys of the car that we drove in for a trade in. I do not know what is worse, if it's their unethical business tactics including conning people to get in the door or the complete ignorant and aggressive attitude towards customers. I want to confirm what the previous yelpers have said, they tell you a price on the phone and then it goes up thousands of dollars when you actually get there. read more

If there was a "zero star" button that's what I would choose. I am not sure where to even begin. Oak Lawn Mazda is HANDS DOWN the WORST customer service I have ever had. Here are just a few points of my visit: 1. They lied about my credit score (it was actually 30 points higher) 2. It took 2.5 hours to tell me I was not approved for financing - even though at Evanston I was approved in 10 minutes and bought my car in 20 minutes. 3. I was told that using an E-plan number I received from a district manager was fraudulent. Yes, that's right, the sales manager had the audacity to question my morals and ethics and that of a district managers........ 4. I was literally yelled at by the sales manager when I explained how horrible my experience was instead of being listened to and asked what can be done to help the situation. I could go on and on....but in short- this business should be shut down as is doing a disservice to Mazda and the surrounding community. What a poor excuse for a business. read more
