Completely overrated. I don't understand the love affair some people have with this place. Their tastebuds must have low expectations. Reuters on Grand near Harlem is only a 15 minute drive away and SO much better, and offer great prices too, except their goods are awesome. read more

Oak Park Bakery beats Dinkel's in Chicago and that means a lot. They are both excellent bakeries for the best donuts but OPB is generous with the custard in their custard donuts whereas, Dinkel's is a little cheap. You have to get the goods early in the morning because people call in and reserved and if you get their late (like 10am) it's all GONE. read more

We ordered a variety of desserts for Easter 2016. The chocolate eclairs were wonderful!...As well as the pound cake bunny cakes. The apple slices were heavenly, but my FAVORITE was the MOST delicious dutch apple pie I have EVER tasted! OMG...it was SO fresh, full of raisins and cinnamon with white icing drizzled on top. You have GOT to try this!! I have ordered from this bakery a couple times and have always been pleased with everything they make. I received LOTS of compliments from my company. I don't think anyone else has mentioned the birthday cakes from Oak Park Bakery. They are wonderful. If you want a cake that looks and tastes like a cake should, this is the place. (Warning: Costco and Jewel cakes will never satisfy again after you've ordered one of these.) People always rave about the cake and ask where we got it when we order a birthday cake from here. The kolaczky (sp?) cookies are also wonderful - mouthwatering perfection. One of the other reviewers asked if the food is homemade - I can tell you that I live nearby, and if you walk by on a hot summer night the door is open and the delicious smells are wafting out. In season, the fresh strawberries in the pastries have been cut right there in the store. And if you're there first thing in the morning, you can probably ask the owner any questions yourself - it seems like a very hands-on, family-run sort of place. read more

LOVE this bakery!! The prices are very reasonable and all of their items are made in the bakery and fresh. Almost every single item can be purchased for under a dollar. They also have a very patient, friendly, and attractive staff (always a plus!). This bakery also works closely with other Oak Park businesses and I'm all for promoting local commerce! read more

I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to sing the Oak Park Bakery's praises after they prepared a cake for my daughter's third birthday. Both the cake and design were outstanding. My daughter wanted a "Lion King" cake. The hand-drawn artwork was exquisite-all of my guests raved about it. And the cake didn't just look great, it tasted delicious too. We've ordered a number of special event cakes here over the years, and they are not only decorated beautifully, but they taste great too! It's hard to cut into them because they're so pretty, but you won't regret it. And the price is much better than you'll get at most other places. A local gem. read more

Anthony and OP Bakery are absolutely amazing. We used them for the dessert table for our October 2014 wedding and were so so so happy with everything. Anthony was a great communicator and saved me from over ordering on multiple occasions. It was so nice to be able to trust the person I was ordering from. OP Bakery offers great pricing and the pastries for the dessert table not only tasted great but also looked nice. Very reliable service and great small company to order from. Just your average bakery. Nothing to special, but sometimes you need that.

I try to avoid this place as often as I can. Everything I've ever had there - donuts, cupcakes, cookies, cheese danish, and best of all the butter coffee cakes, are all so fresh, delicious and addictive that I only allow myself to come when we have family in town (once every few months). It's also a birthday breakfast destination, and we've gotten a couple of cakes made there too. The service is great and the way they pack up the goodies is perfect. If I had a little more self control, I'd frequent more often. read more

i know there's been a lot of fuss about doughnuts, lately. but sometimes it's nice to rediscover an old-school gem. i haven't been to oak park bakery in decades, but they've been making my favorite donuts & coffee cakes for 30+ years. the cherry-cheese pocket and butter coffeecakes are still amazing! delicious pączki, cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, glazed pretzel knots and plain old chocolate raised are as good as any fancy, overpriced, "gourmet" doughnut joint. the difference is that this family-owned bakery has been doing it, with love & fresh ingredients, for generations. definitely at the top of my neighborhood bakery list!!! i'll be back. often!! read more

Sweet! I come here every Friday for goodies for my office. Trust me they are much appreciated. I highly recommend the coffee cakes and especially the pull-apart cinnamon sugar coffee cake. $7 to feed an army. My wife brought cupcakes to a baby shower in the city. The guests were all expecting the fancy cupcakes that are (were) all the rage. Instead they got these wonderful tasty cupcakes from OPB. And no one turned them down. read more

I've gone here for years and love the simplicity of their baked goods. No trendy pastry, just old fashioned butter and sugar goodness! I also love that they generously donate unsold goods to neighborhood block parties upon request. One of my favorite items is the fresh plum coffee cake that's only available briefly in the summer when the baking plums are in season. Yum. read more

There are several huge things going for Oak Park Bakery. 1) If you don't drive you can get there very easily on the Blue Line heading for Forest Park---get off at Oak Park, exit the station via the ramp at the west end of the platform, turn left, cross the street, and you're there. Worth the trip if you're going to fill your freezer. 2) This bakery is like a time warp. We pretty much don't have neighborhood bakeries in the city any more, but Oak Park Bakery is one. I saw old Chicago favorites like apple slices, kolachkys, and Swedish Flop with fresh strawberries on top. 3) Prices are 30% lower than downtown; a coffee cake 10-12 inches in diameter and covered with nuts or filled with filling etc runs a little more than six dollars. Feels like about 1965, in a good way. read more

Small-town bakery in a big Chicago suburb. Love ordering cakes (birthday and coffee) from here. And yesterday I ordered 4 pies (cherry, peach, blueberry, apple) for a work function as I thought pies would be something different from the normal supermarket bakery offerings. They were outstanding and only $8.65 a pop. Yes, I was considering going to Costco to get their mammoth $9.99 apple pie. But the care and love baked in these pies, not to mention the varieties and palpable excitement as we peered in each white box, made them oh-so-much-more delectable. read more

I grew up in Oak Park and when I moved away I was amazed other places didn't have bakeries like this. I now live in Washington State and in the past have even arranged for birthday cakes for my mom who was still living in Oak Park at the time. This bakery reminds me of another one called reuters mainly because both have the classic "smiley face cookies" that I absolutely love I got several of them for my family and me and they all thought it was delicious. We live in La Grange and are lucky enough to have a bakery like OPB nearby. But, my hubby's favorite cake is Boston Cream Pie and OP Bakery has the best Boston. So, for the last 20+ years, in December for hubby's birthday I go to Oak Park Bakery for the Boston Cream Pie - the hubby is in heaven! I also make sure to pick up some of their other yummy treats while there. read more
