The ambiance is really nice and the drinks were popping. We had 4 in our party 2 ordered the Steak Frites, filet and risotto, and half chicken. The half chicken was great and my Steak Frites was average at best. The desserts were great. I was disappointed in the service..our server didn't have steak knives for three folks who needed them, we had to reorder wine because it was forgotten, some folks got appetizer plates while others didn't. We went to the Oakhouse for the first time with a party of 8. We went downstairs, which is a really cool bar, to enjoy a cocktail before dinner and then upstairs to the restaurant where we were seated at a really nice table in the front. We were off to a good start. Our waitress came and told us the specials and updated drink orders while we looked the menu over. Pricing gets your attention right away. It's pretty pricey. They charge $3 dollars for bread service, which literally is a piece of bread about 4 inches long cut into tiny slices. We need several of those and then proceeded to order a variety of food. The service was inconsistent. Our server didn't check on us very often but the server taken care of water refills was doing a good job. When our food came, I think we all felt that flavor-wise it was pretty good. My husband ordered one of the specials, which was a Mandarin chicken with ginger rice. When the server took our order and he said that he'd have the chicken, she did not confirm whether it was the special or what was apparently their regular roast chicken so she brought in the regular chicken. When we brought this to her attention, she said "oh well note for next time". For the cost of the meal we were having that really should've been handled with a simple. "I'm so sorry I misunderstood. Let me go and get the rice for you," but she didn't do that. Very disappointing. One of the people in our party had a steak that she barely ate any of it. She didn't like the sauces that were with it. I had the rabbit with noodles, which was tasty. All in our group which of the experience about 80 out of 100. First time eating at Oakhouse. This location has turned over a few times for whatever reasons. I personally thought it was a funky space for a restaurant. A lot of ground to cover, with all the levels and Upstairs/downstairs. Makes it hard for staff! But this owner made it into two spaces. Downstairs more causal and upstairs more fine dining. Reminds me of the stone house in grass valley. Same concept. The decor facelift from previous restaurant makes it feel less weird. Very nice colors etc. brings it all together. The bar is cute but would need more appetizer food options and cheaper for me to want to sit there! The waiter was very nice and did his job well. We did however have to wait quite a long time for our food which seems to be the theme in the reviews. Drinks also took a minute, but again It's a big space so lots of orders coming through--Inside and outside. And understaffed. Now for the food: We were a group of 7, which this place can accommodate. But for a hefty price. For 7, you will pay under $600-$700 easily. Unfortunately, this price tag will possibly sink the ship. We did not order any of the steaks as the reviews weren't great there. But what we did order was not at all price comparable. One of dishes was a fried cheese (size of a iPhone 13) with 5 asparagus. $36!!! And that was it! See photo. The asparagus, egg and mushroom appetizer had more going on. But unfortunately the flavors were not working together. It was like having separate items on one plate. I had the lamb salad. Not what I expected. The lamb was like smoked shredded meat. A little tough and the salad dressing was too spicy for a salad! It took away all the flavors. Now, if you were to put this dish into a few corn tortillas, and call it a lamb tacos, it would have worked way better! But not for the price tag. I didn't get a picture of it but the elk was beautifully done. The best meal on the table with a wine/berry sauce. Overall price point is too high. Quality is middle. This is the 2nd time we've been to this restaurant! First time was a great experience sitting at the bar. Last night, we were greeted by the hostess at 4:51pm and she basically told us to go downstairs that they are not opened yet. Our called-in reservation for 4 people was for 5pm. When we returned to the hostess, she basically said we have to be out of there by 7pm to accommodate a party of 13. We even felt the staff was rushing us! We are foodies and frequent our favorite restaurants weekly. I guess we don't need to return to Oakhouse! I hope it was worth the party of 13! read more

I see a lot of potential here. The space is warm and inviting, and we preferred sitting at the bar or bar tables. The bone marrow was excellent, and the bread it came with was standout. The food overall was strong, drinks were well made, and the wine list was solid. There's also a fun lounge downstairs with a great outdoor vibe, perfect for a late-night cocktail, though I wish it stayed open later. We made a reservation for my birthday dinner a few weeks ago and the entire menu was updated last Wednesday and everything we previously had was no longer available. Had a reservation for our 15yr anniversary was very excited to experience. Unfortunately our experience was not great. We were seated in the corner of joining windows during the brightest part of the day for that spot. We were told during the middle of our meal that the air conditioner had gone out 1 hour prior to our reservation. The restaurant was only about 20% occupancy and they could have sat us else where knowing they had no air conditioner in that area of the dining room. It was so hot that sweat marks had made it onto clothing when we left. As For the food, Cesar salad was eh. Bread eh, but the butter was good. We both ordered steak meals. They made a mistake and mixed up our cooking preferences. So we ended up with a filet over done and a flank that was way undercooked. They offered to cook the flank more but it was too late considering we were burning up and trying to move things along. Also the flank was not the typical flank style I was expecting, it was thick and rounded. The side veggies were just ok. The risotto was amazing that we had the filet with. They did come back and offer us dessert on the house after they discovered their temperatures were off. We preferred it to go as we were so hot. We ordered a cheesecake and it was just ok. The cocktails were the best part! Very good! Overall we won't be returning. The price does not match the quality and the experience left us disappointed. We just had an amazing dining experience at the Oakhouse restaurant in Auburn. The place was pretty busy for a weekday dinner and we really enjoyed the lively atmosphere. The service was simply implacable. We were so excited to try the food that we went a little overboard with the food order. Between the two of us, we ordered the bread service and the Caesar salad - both were fresh and delicious; then we split an order of the bone marrow and it was exceptional. Our main coarse consisted of the dry aged ribeye and a side dish of mashed potatoes- very well prepared. We even had a popover for the dessert and it was very tasty. We have been to Oakhouse 2 times before and it was exceptional. The service and the food was great. i made a reservation for 5 for one of our good friends birthday. We were so excited to share this gem of a place with them. We were seated at a large table in the bar area. We were the first arrivals on Valentine's Day. When asked if I had a reservation, I responded that we did not, but that I had called 9 days earlier and spoke with a woman who told me that all of the dining room tables had been reserved as it was going to be a holiday. She said that the bar seating would be available with the exception of 2 seats which were reserved for a regular who dines there often. I had asked at the time of the phone call if I should plan to arrive early in order to be able to get a seat at the bar. She assured me that they do not have a waiting line when the doors open, so getting that seat should not be a problem and I wouldn't have to plan to arrive early. We did arrive early and were the first diners there at 4:45pm. The hostess asked me to wait while she got the manager. I was left wondering if there was seating available. The manager listened to me and graciously offered us a choice of a bar table. This was our first visit here. The decor and design fits the restaurant well. The front door created a very annoying noise issue, though. Whenever a diner or the staff would open the door it would practically slam shut and make a loud noise which was very distracting. Our server, Carmella, was helpful, prompt and friendly. She was the best part of the experience. All of the food was under seasoned with the exception of the oyster (not a surprise since it's an oyster). The food just lacked flavor. There were no salt & pepper shakers on the table which I have no problem with as long as the food is seasoned properly. I rarely if ever add extra salt at the table. It's too late at that point and the food only tastes salty rather than flavorful. We were never offered freshly cracked pepper. The beef tartare was some of the plainest beef tartare we have had. It was also an extra up-charge from the prix fixe menu. My scallops were seared well, but again they were very under seasoned. Hubby's duck breast was also under seasoned, and the fat from the skin wasn't rendered down as it absolutely should have been. The timing of the meal was also slow. It seems the kitchen must have been off on their timing. The food runners also had to ask us who had what so they could present us with our respective dishes. That's a serving 101 error for a fine restaurant. After our entrees we waited a considerable amount of time before my soufflé was delivered. We had watched earlier as another soufflé was presented to a diner and it was still puffed up as a soufflé should be. When mine arrived, it was completely deflated as you can see in the photo. It also wasn't fully cooked. Hubby's never arrived. The manager came to our table and apologized for the delayed food and said that the chef had been too ambitious. For a dinner with a bill over $350 with a drink and bottle of wine that we ordered, this experience was a huge disappointment. We really had hoped for more. We won't be returning. read more

We went to Oak house for the 3rd time this evening. We sat at the bar for dinner as there were no reservations available. The menu is very limited! The first time we dined there they offered fried chicken which was amazing but dropped it from the menu?? My husband ordered the ribeye charred and medium rare on the inside. It came out blue! Cold and raw. They took it back and re fired the same piece of meat which never works. The sides were amazing we had the beets, carrots and Mac and cheese. The service at the bar was also excellent. Our bartender was Mike and he was attentive and very friendly. They need to add more entree options like chicken beast, prawns or bring back the fried chicken! Sam the general manager is amazing. The menu prices are well worth the dining experience - the food was absolutely and the presentation exquisite. I enjoyed the Caesar Salad with the breadcrumbs. The beef cheeks with polenta and the surf and turf with the bourbon peppercorn were incredible. Went a couple of weeks before Christmas with my son and our daughter-in-law. They're from Manhattan and used to fairly high prices. So, they weren't put off by the oak house prices. Then again, this is Auburn not Manhattan. The food was good. However, one entrée (my wife's) was not delivered. Once that was sorted, we ended up with a credit on the dessert. However, this shouldn't have happened. Maybe, they were just still in the learning phase. As to prices, they're pretty high. I like to have a martini when I go out for dinner and even in Manhattan I'm not charged for the olives and at 80 years of age I've had plenty of martinis and have never, until going to the Oakhouse, been charged for olives and no, they weren't stuffed. We had the ribeye steak and the halibut which were delicious. The side lot is quite steep. The entrance needs signage; we and others were confused where to enter. Pricey, but expected. PERFECTION in Auburn! I have not had this kind of dining experience in a very long time. Service was fantastic and we were seated immediately with a reservation. Cocktails to start were on point and generous. We had the shishitos and salmon starters as well as all of the seasonal salads and I could not choose a favorite although I was thoroughly impressed with how finely the brussels were shaved. I had the herb crusted elk loin-chefs kiss, wouldn't change a thing. Left it up to Chef Chris to choose how it was prepared and which sauce and he knocked it out of the park. The halibut, ribeye and special beef wellington were also ordered at our table and there were zero complaints from anyone. All cooked to perfection with amazing flavor profiles, paired perfectly with your choice of sauce. We ordered every side (except Mac & Cheese) since we could not choose just one, again-well seasoned, tasty and veggies done right. Made room for one dessert for the table because how can you pass up s'mores crème brûlée? Again-outstanding in every way. Love this openness and flow of the restaurant , there is an upscale yet casual vibe going on-servers were attentive without putting pressure on, portions were generous and food was served in a very reasonable amount of time. Our meal and experience were amazing. The dishes were plentiful and very flavorful. The bone marrow appetizer was such a great combination of ingredients. I had the rabbit ragu and my date had the elk. Both were so good! We topped off the meal with a large slice of cheesecake and some tawny port. I'm giving this a two star because the drinks are good. Poorly cooked steaks & Elk. What a shame they put a heavy hand of bread crumbs on top of all the meats. They suggest to have are meat medium rare and we received rare. Also on the menu was a loin elk and we received two bones which shouldn't have any bones. What a shame wouldn't come back here. I appreciate fine dine and I pay good money for an excellent steak but won't be coming back here again. Or even referring this place to anyone. read more

Last night we tried this new restaurant. We sat at the bar and had an amazing evening. The drinks were unique and delicious. The owner Tim and the bartender Mike were so fun to hang out with.and showcase some of the best items. We had the ribeye with whiskey butter and a whiskey peppercorn sauce, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. All was cooked to perfection!! First the superlatives. Great remodel of a historic building. The space is beautiful. Outstanding side dishes. Bar staff is fantastic as is Sam the GM. Let me preface this by saying I'm a steak snob. Third time dining here and second time ordering a steak. Ribeye to be exact. I always order my steak the same way no matter where I'm at. Salt and pepper crust, hard sear and medium rare. If you are unable to cook a steak to order or you are unwilling to then just let me know. I'll order something else. But both times the steak comes out blue rare, no discernible seasoning and no sear whatsoever. If the steak is cut too thin to achieve the outcome I asked for just let me know. It's not the size of the steak but the thickness that allows a proper cook. You don't need to fill the plate with a piece of meat. I'd be more than happy with a thick fillet that can be cooked properly rather than a thin 16oz ribeye that cannot. But the Oak house doesn't offer that. Also could use a second fish dish like a salmon. All that being said, love the staff, love the location and love the side dishes. It's a bar we'd go to twice a week but a restaurant we'd go to maybe once a month. read more

Let the customer beware! My husband and I had New Year's Eve dinner at the recently opened Oakhouse Restaurant in Auburn. The price was $150/person with a fixed menu. We expected the restaurant to be festively decorated for New Year's Eve and were disappointed by the lack thereof. Further, the wait staff all wore regular blue jeans. Imagine our shock when the menu showed that the steak and halibut entrees were only 5 ounces each! We asked for heated bread to begin with and it took considerable time before unheated was delivered. The sides were quite limited without a baked potato for the "steakette". Our overall impression is that the restaurant is expensive, offers limited selection and serves scanty portions.
