Fantastic Spot To "Pregame" Shows @ Goldfields Next Door SITREP We descended upon the Tack Room an hour before our show for "Ally The Piper" (both the classical AND heavy metal bagpiper extraordinaire) began her show! THE SETUP Goldfields is a charming, rustic country-western stylized saloon that serves up beer at good prices. But we weren't interested in beer and wanted quality cocktails. Hence, our pivot next door to the Tack Room! QUALITY COCKTAILS & DRINKS! The Tack Room specializes an amazing array of martinis, bourbons, and other deLISH cocktail drinks at really really reasonable prices! So this was an excellent choice to chill, thus avoiding the tremendous *noise pollution* we were immediately subjected to upon entering Goldfields an hour later for our show. THE LOWDOWN This is a quality bar with plenty of comfortable seating to relax and have quiet, intimate conversations. What an absolutely fantastic place to duck into and chill for a bit on a hot summer day. It's about as classic as you can ask for from a small bar. It's themed around horse racing, but not in an overbearing or... tacky way. The mixologist was delightful and had great recommendations, the lights were dim, and the drinks were all on point. The highlight was the espresso martini, which is among the best I've had. It was reminiscent of the one I had at the Starbucks Roastery in NYC, which is high praise. The other coffee drink that surprised me was the Revolver. I always forget about what a good pairing orange and coffee is, and I'll be taking this one back home with me to try! Every other drink we tried was delicious in some unique way. The Pho drink was savory and surprising, the New York Sour was rich and flavorful, and the Practical Move was refreshing. We decided to check this out on a Saturday night based on Yelp recommendations. The location is tucked between Goldfield and Sacrament Brewing- I can't believe how many times we have passed by without noticing it! A small green neon "tack room" sign was the only identifier on a space that otherwise looks like a random office. The interior of the bar fully leans into the equestrian/derby theme, very fun and unique. Space was also very clean. The bartender was super friendly and welcoming, and made some of the best cocktails I've ever had in Sacramento. Some of the drinks that we got: - Flameaway pho: featured shiitake infused gin and aquavit flavored with pho spices. The pho spice scents were very fragrant and actually complemented this drink so well! Highly recommend. - Vegan fizz: gin based cocktail with coconut, very refreshing and tropical, also highly recommend - Bee's knees: a classic gin cocktail with just the right amount of honey for a little sweetness. I ended up getting the clarified pumpkin Mai Tai because I am a sucker for pumpkin flavor. This was super tasty and had a good balance between alcohol and sweet. I came to the Tack Room with some friends to celebrate my birthday. We arrived on a Saturday night and the place was fairly crowded. We managed to find a few spots at the bar and saddled up. The service was friendly and attentive, and the cocktails were delicious. It was a little loud for what I assumed the ambience would be - I was envisioning more laid-back lounge vibes, and this felt more like full-blown night out at the bar. It is located next-door to a pretty loud bar and music venue so I don't know why I was surprised. Finally checked the Tack Room off my list! After visiting San Luis Obispo, some random man we met at a brewery couldn't stop RAVING about the Tack Room, and I couldn't believe I had never been! This bar is something else! The interior is so unique (Derby themed) and the drinks are amazing! I opted for the Bubbling Over (with a very aesthetic bubble on top) and this might be the best drink I've ever had. It was sweet, tart, effervescent... everything I could've hoped for in my perfect drink! The husband got the Foolish Pleasure tequila drink and that was equally as good (and I don't even like tequila!). Neither were on the HH menu but they had a decent HH selection to choose from. Our second drink was the boozie slushie (HH) and it was apple pie flavored. We liked it! The bartender was also hustling as they were the only one there at that time. First time coming to tack room was on my birthday! It's a nice bar on j street. It was extremely dark inside.. and the bar was very busy. Took over 20 minutes to get a drink in the beginning. Loved this little bar/lounge. The bartender was amazing! I ordered the drink with the little bubble on top and when it popped, smoke came out. Such a vibe. The decor is masculine and they had fresh flowers all around. Bathroom has one stall, but was very clean and well maintained. I came here before the rush on a late afternoon on a Saturday. People started trickling in around 6:00pm. It is a bit hidden, but it is right next to Goldfields. Sometimes they would open the door that connects to Goldfields, which is awesome. We looked up a few places to hit up while visiting the area. It was a nice space inside. Very relaxed energy, just what we needed. The patron behind the bar was amazing! We asked for cocktails with certain alcohol and flavor profiles and they made it happen. It was awesome! Highly recommend. Note, it wasn't busy during the time we went so I wouldn't recommend doing that during busy time. I really want to like Tack Room but every time I visit - which is at night, the interior lighting is just too dim for me, especially when you first walk in from the street...it's like whoa and my eyes need to adjust to the darkness. I was blown away with Tack Room, from the dedication to the derby theme, the drinks and the amazing customer service. Inside is a little narrow, but they managed to provide ample seating. It's also pretty dark inside, but no biggie. They had music playing as well as Final Destination playing on the TV. I didn't use the restroom but my husband said they only have one bathroom and the line was pretty long. We arrived around 9pm on a Saturday and was able to snag 2 seats at the bar, which I prefer because I enjoy watching the bartenders. They had lots of drink menus displayed out on the bar top, the menu contains their specialty drinks, which they have quite a few of. I opted for the Voodoo Grog, made with a house blend of rum and nutmeg dram and some other stuff that sounded yummy lol. And it was just that, very yummy! I also enjoyed a Bees Knees. There were a few other drinks I was eyeing but decided it best to stop at 2. Price wise, they can be little pricey (the voodoo grog was $17) but they are specialty crafted cocktails, so it was expected. Customer service was exceptional. The bartender acknowledged every patron that came up to the bar. He'd inform them he sees them and he was X amount of drinks to make first then he'll come back to get their order. I thought this was awesome, to be made aware you've been seen versus most places where your standing there waving them down in hopes you get noticed. And as mentioned, I love watching them make the drinks. Each one looked so complex and beautiful. And some of the bartenders even did a little flare with the mixing tins. Good show! This place was on my list I know it just opened a few months ago . So glad we stopped here . The ambiance is dim lights, pretty intimate and small. They have saddle horse seats to seat at by the bar very cool horse theme everywhere . The drinks are amazing I can tell they take pride on their drinks and the ingredients they use . Now that is a craft cocktail! We ordered a few drinks all of them were delicious I love Gin drinks so I had to try a few . They have a smoky old fashion that looked very cool I had to take a picture of it . My hubby and I at the end of the night we shared the Winning Colors which comes with a Air Bubble not sure the proper way to say it but it was cool looking and very good .
