This place is a classic local Texas bar. There are a few things that make it exceptional though. 1. The bar staff. While they all are courteous, professional, and pour a nice drink ... they are always so friendly! Maddie and Alexis are phenomenal. 2. The menu. You would be surprised how many food options there are as well as how good the food is! The lunchtime special for $10.99 is ridiculously well priced ... I feel like I am stealing a perfectly cooked blackened Texas Redfish (plus a sides) at that price. 3. The patrons. Everybody usually just looking to wind down, enjoy their favorite beverage, and tell some pretty amusing (but true) stories. Do not go to this place if you wear contacts! They will cut you off for having " glossy " eyes. I've seen these bartenders serve people who are falling over drunk but decided to cut off my father in law because his eyes were too shiny after having three beers over a two hour period. Funny , I was in there a few years back and couldn't get any service. I had to go to the bar to get my own drinks because our server/waitress deliberately looked over our table. As soon as my husband wrote about it on FB the manager came over yelling at us to take that post down. After she calmed down , she told us they would take care of our tab and hope that we will continue to do business with them and are welcome back. The next time we went back , we were immediately asked to leave and told we aren't allowed. No we are on a permanent banned list. Horrible management and honesty people. I typically Door Dash this place, the food is good however when I finally went to visit the restaurant, I was very disappointed!! I suffer from PTSD so I indulge in the devil's lettuce. My party and I go sit at a table and the first thing the waitress comments on is how we smell and the owner is there do I have perfume!! Are you kidding me!!! You are a bar that serves alcohol to people and then they drive afterwards!! The irony!! I love this place! It's very chill and the food is great for bar food and the service is usually pretty good too. The reason for this review though is because they charge a $1.75 fee to use a credit card. I passed it along to my server in the form of a decreased tip because I figure she has more influence on the owner's bad decisions than I do. We decided to give this place another shot. Unfortunately, it was just as bad, if not worse. The staff is dismissive, and we waited for ages for the most basic service like water and mere ordering. It felt like we were invisible unless we ordered alcohol, and even then, the attitude was unwelcoming. We really wanted to enjoy the atmosphere and give them another chance, but two bad experiences in a row definitely can't be ideal. I was originally going to give this bar three stars but I'm making it 4. For this to be what people call a dive bar this is one of the cleanest bars I have been to in Waco Texas. I can actually put my purse on the bar with no worries of it getting dirty or wet. Have to take my customary star away because when you come in it smells like smoke. It is now smoke-free inside with the smoking outdoor patio which they leave the door open to all the time so the inside smells like smoke. Not unbearable but if you don't smoke or dislike smoke smell like me you will smell it the whole time you are inside. They call themselves a country bar. When I asked for a martini with Ketel One as I'm looking at the martini glasses the young bartender says I don't know if we can make those. They don't have Ketel One. No offer to give me another option for a martini. But I highly doubt they actually have dry vermouth to make me a dry martini. This is a place that plays country music most of the time. Come here and drink average beers and simple drinks. This is not the place to get a top-shelf or complicated drink. They have a food truck out back but since the inside smells like smoke I will never eat here or recommend eating here. However everyone has always been nice to me here and I have never paid for more than one drink without a handsome cowboy offering to pay for the next one. I have yet to check out the outdoor patio because I can only imagine how it smells. They sell cigarettes here if you smoke and there is plenty of seating. Just an FYI there is extra parking in the back of the bar and I recommend you come on Thursdays when they have a lot of happy hour specials. We came here with high hopes. At this moment, I'm currently still sitting here. We came here for a date night to watch a little football. We've asked 3 times for someone to change a tv for us. The last two times the female walked away without a word. If it's not allowed that's okay..: just don't be rude. If we don't order alcohol when she comes she literally walks away a second later. We've tried getting the waitress staff attention but because we are not a table of regulars they REFUSE to speak to us. Absolutely fantastic food, the burger was one of the artery clogging good burgers that you can't stop eating, the jalapeño poppers were definitely the best I've had the bacon didn't unravel itself when you eat it, but let me tell you about those pot stickers. The chicken fried steak comes in a frying pan, and it is full (the largest chicken fried steak I have ever seen). The meat goes all the way to the edge. Service was a little slow because a number of us ordered the chicken fried steak, and it seems that they prepare each one, one at a time. The Margaritas were weak and full of ice. It was a little loud, but this is a Texas bar and grill. My wife loved the bourbon chicken. I'll go back again. read more

Met some friends last Saturday evening to watch college football and eat. My friends ordered the oysters on the half shell which were disappointing. The potato skin appetizers were very good, onion rings were big, crispy and delicious. Ordered the special whiskey burger with waffle fries, my friend ordered the catfish basket and the other friend had the fried shrimp basket. The catfish and shrimp baskets were delicious, especially the shrimp basket, large sweet shrimp, crispy coating, very good. The hamburgers were not bad. The burger was a little overcooked, but with the cheese, bacon, mushrooms & whiskey sauce it was tasty. The outside patio looked nice and I imagine gets more popular as the weather cools off. We ate inside. Lots of TV's. Oakley's is still more bar than grill, the waitstaff are more "trained" for cocktails and you can't just throw food into the mix and expect the waitstaff to serve properly. But for a bar, food is better than expected and would definitely come again. (4 stars except for oysters.) read more

Used DoorDash to delivery our meal. Dasher was fantastic. Food was not hot when we got it, but we followed the process, and he called to tell us that he had a wait at the restaurant. Food was not hot. Paid extra to sub fries (clearly marked in receipt). They did not get the sub. Had to put my chicken and bacon in microwave. Had to put soggy curly fries in the oven. Husband (who actually likes medium rare) had y put his cold burger in the microwave to finish cooking it. We've ordered once before from here and enjoyed it. The owner did reach out to me and I showed up to view the ticket. He told me it looked like she added up the amount I owed twice on an accident so she took the tip which almost as much as the ticket itself. The problem is the math did not fully add up. But, he did offer to pay for over draft fees if I got any which I did not end up getting any. He did return the tip to me. It was made right. I have been in there recently, and the bartenders are mostly rude. I only go there if I am with people that are there. Otherwise it is never my choice. I gave it 3 stars because their FOOD is GREAT. Chicken was a a thin breast butterflied, was ok, didn't receive any mashed potatoes, a dinner roll was placed on top of the chicken breast, so it was soggy from the green bean juice & the green beans would have been good but they were too salty to eat. I had the worst night in this place. Service was unexceptional. I was being good to people and trying to mingle and meet people I didn't know. Everything was going well with no issues. Until the bartender decided she wanted me gone. She cut me off when I had done nothing wrong. I gave her a small tip anyway and she complained about it. I left my phone inside so had to go back inside to get it when the waitress and bartender both proceeded to talk bad to me and call me trash. I defended myself verbally and when I did had to defend myself physically. More than one man went to grab me up and move me outside which I went willingly but my hat fell off in the process. The bartender picked my hat up and went to try and rip it in half. When she failed on ripping it in half, she put her shoe in my hat and pulled against it to stretch the hat out. Meanwhile I'm at the door watching her do this at the front door I had been pushed out of just asking her to give me my hat. She finally gave the stretched out hat back to me though. I definitely will never go to this pos bar again and I advise no one to go to this place ever. read more

I've been coming to Oakleys for over a year now since I moved to the area. Always loved it and enjoyed the atmosphere, until recently when the jackass owners changed the rules that you can not use a state issued ID for service, it MUST be a valid drivers license, nothing else. In all my years of bar hopping I've never in my life seen such an asinine rule. (I have a drivers license by the way, at the moment it is the paper version).
