Today not much went good. I have been bringing my dog BLEU to this establishment more than a year we have visited nearly 2 dozen times and i almost always bring BLEU. My friends have brought their dogs. We've always sat inside and always had dog bowls with water brought to us inside and today, Saturday, September 20th, I was told non-service dogs are not allowed inside only on the porch. It's a shame because we all love coming there with our dogs, but it's still too hot to sit outside currently 92°. If that's a new rule, so be it. Not too long ago, I met the owner and he said he opened the establishment and has always allowed dogs. Really sad about this. read more

We visited this restaurant for the first time last year and it was good. I gave them 4/5 stars. I said that it was cute and the server was awesome, but it seemed a tiny bit"not super clean" & food was just good. So this week we decided to give this restaurant another try. I'm so happy that we gave them another chance! First off, I should've said that it's a cute little eclectic place. You get the feeling you're in a Caribbean village atmosphere. We had THE BEST server, & her name is McKenzee! She was so nice and made our visit extra fun & special. We will definitely be looking for her next time we visit Salty Dog. My husband & I both had the patty melt sliders and fries. I wasn't sure if I'd like the "crazy sauce", but it was amazing. I must add that for an appetizer we had the fried squash with ranch dressing. This was like little round fried zucchini! It was delicious. All in all everything was great and I think we will be back again very soon! Always remember to give a restaurant a second chance! No where on the website does it talk about a Sunday Brunch, so we were every surprised when we got there to learn that on Sunday the serve only from the Brunch menu which was very limited choice and not that good. When I asked for butter and grape jelly, the waitress brought mixed jelly because that is all they had but then she gives me a cup of melted butter. Now I don't know about you but I don't think you can spread melted butter on your toast. If you are going the direction of "Brunch" then have the proper BRUNCH Accessories. Stopped thru here several times during my stay in Waco. Its a good place to watch sports. Nice line up of TVs similar to buffalo wild wings. Now the service drinks n food. Well.. It's OK. Depends who is behind the bar and you re usually going to be looking for them. They have a bell that rings for staff to know food is up and whoever is nearby will pick up the food. But if you need silverware or condiments you better hurry and catch them because they are gone in a flash. And then your stuck looking for your server or bartender for a while. Food is served in dog bowls. Not sure if that's cute or not. Beer selection is average for Waco and they frequently run out of craft beer. I mean like at least once per week. Food is OK for bar food. Nothing to go out of the way for. Staff is usually friendly despite being scarce for a time. Happy hour is decent with $4 drink specials but no food specials during happy hour. Where to start? I've eaten at Salty Dog (SD) multiple times with my family and I've always enjoyed it. In fact, I've even left a positive review on here about them. That all changed Sunday. My husband, my child, and I paid a visit to Salty Dog this past weekend. We walked in at around 11am. We placed our drink order around 11:05 and quickly received our drinks. This seemed to be pretty standard for the place, so no surprises there. Things soon started to foreshadow a change. It took almost twenty minutes for the waiter to come back and take our food order. SD had introduced a brunch menu. While I was enthusiastic about trying something new, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't get my old favorite. Change is good though, right? By 11:30, my husband received his burger, the brunch burger. I was told that my order (the chicken and waffle) would be out shortly. To appease my toddler (who I would be sharing my meal with as there was no children's menu or offer of any child friendly sides), my husband and I quickly went through his fries, passing them to our kid. All three of us enjoyed them. At 11:55, my food still hadn't arrived. I was about to flag down our waiter, who had focused his attention on the larger table off to the left of the bar for the bulk of our visit and who had not checked on us in 25 minutes, to cancel my order. I had finally run out of patience. Seriously, how long does it take to fry up a couple of chicken tenders and a waffle? At 11:58, my plate finally arrived...28 minutes AFTER my husband's!!! The waffle looked burned and the chicken tenders were beyond dry. The food was a disaster. Our waiter disappeared again with no offer of refills on our water or to ask if we wanted another drink. My husband's burger was just as lacking in flavor. Usually, the burgers there are amazing, but this one was bland and almost boring. The icing on the cake was when we finally received our ticked at 12:15 or so...after our waiter again graced us with his presence for the first time since dripping off my plate. I asked for a to-go box and the check. On the check, as if to add insult to injury, was a new charge that I had never seen at SD before: a NON-CASH ADJUSTMENT FEE of almost $3. That was added to the $28 bill which brought our total to $31. We were flabbergasted! My husband went to see if the fee could be removed, but our waiter acted as if we were speaking a foreign language. Do yourself a favor and do NOT go here. I know it will not be on my go-to list of places to eat in Waco again. Good luck, Salty Dog. I hope the service fee was worth it. Came here last night with a group of about 8 friends and had probably the slowest service of our entire lives. It took close to an hour before our server took food orders and she didn't even walk around to each person to take the order but stood at the head of the table while we yelled what we wanted to her. The food took probably another hour or so but unfortunately, our server dropped the Alpo appetizer sampler that I was supposed to be sharing with my sister. Instead of comping our meal, giving us a discount, or taking any initiative whatsoever, she asked us what WE wanted to do. I said I at least just wanted some potato skins from the sampler, which she took to mean another order of potato skins appetizers. She said she would bring those out for free and ended up charging us for the full cost of the Alpo sampler. I had told her not bother bringing out another sampler because we didn't want to keep the table waiting. Somehow a new sampler had "already been fired up" and was ready for us so she had to give it to us anyway. We had a party of 6 for drinks and appetizers before we went to The Price is Rignt (yes that's right - it was in Waco). Been here twice for the burgers. The bacon, egg and cheese burger is ridiculously good. The atmosphere is casual, mostly 30-somethings. The bloody Mary cocktail was fabulous and almost served as an appetizer all by itself. Walked in and there was a fair amount of seating open so we picked a table and was immediately fretting by a friendly face. Drinks took about 3 to 5 minutes nothing to crazy for a Friday night. We ordered fried pickles which were great a little salty the further down we got but it's pickles so we expected salty. My husband ordered a "dog bowl" with quest chicken, it came in a dog bowl and everything super cute. I ordered the mac & cheese burger which was amazing. Two days ago I headed down to Waco for business and ended up stopping for lunch at the Salty Dog. Its all shiny and new (about 6 months) I believe... and i hear the locals voted it "Best New Restaurant" in the area. Its actually a Sports Bar and Grill which is apparent when you walk in and see what may actually be the new record holder for the longest bar in Texas ....lined with TWENTY FIVE flat screen TV's. So I take a seat at the bar and the owner comes over to welcome my friend and I. We start chatting and he's bragging about the guacamole... which I have serious doubts about, coming from a Sports Bar. To be unmodestly frank, I make the best guacamole I have ever tasted... HOWEVER, this was probably 2nd.. ahead of any mexican restaurant's I've had. Muy Bueno. Next we order an appetizer called the Adam Bomb. Think of a mexican version of an egg roll.. tortilla filled with chopped chicken, jalepenos, onions and cheese rolled up and lightly fried served up with queso. I seriously could've just ordered 2 of those for lunch and been happy. But we still needed to try one of the most popular lunch items... hot dogs. These are not just any hot dogs... they are 1 pound, 12" long and about 2" in diameter of pure tastyness. Fittingly, called The Homewrecker. ;) The best part is that it is all hand made.. right there.. every day. Even the kraut for the dogs is made from scratch. And you can definitely tell the difference! Bonus? They have a great outdoor beach themed bar which is colorful enough to make you think you're in the caribbean AND... Bonus #2: if you've had SOO much to drink you cant tell the waitress from your 4 legged friend, you're in luck... No where on the menu does it say that it has any other sauce other than ranch on it. I get my food and my first bite was filled with buffalo sauce. In the past all the food at salty dog has been really good. I've had the burgers, the chicken fried steak, but the dish I get the most is the appetizer sampler. This visit was a little disappointing. First of all the ladies bathroom was very clean. That's always nice to see. My friend and I decided to share the appetizer sampler. It came out not as hot as it could be, but we could've overlooked that except for the onion rings. They tasted like they had been sitting for a while. However our server said they were fried fresh but they had recently changed the recipe. I don't know why, but the other recipe was far better. Just not as tasty all around. And the chair was broken. Had a RHINO burger, it is a monster, too large for one person to eat. The blue cheese and mushrooms where good, but the meat was a bit dull and flavorless. There are better places to get a tasty burger, but probably not many to get a bigger burger. So, we found this place because of Yelp (it was the first place that came up) and we decided to give it a shot as we were visiting Waco for the weekend. Popped in Friday early evening and were able to get a table easily and the owner even assisted us in getting a table that was better suited to our needs. The drinks were fast, cold and reasonable. The service was very friendly too! We had a big lunch so we weren't super hungry and went with queso & chips and onion rings and all were awesome! Had some drinks and unwound and just enjoyed the atmosphere. We watched so many yummy dishes going by that we made the decision that if it was at all possible, we would come back after our outings the next day. So glad we made it back on Saturday. I ordered a chicken fried steak dog bowl (yes, it is served in a dog bowl) and it was pretty tasty! My fiance ordered the Texas burger (had jalapeno brisket on it) and he said it was great! I did sneak a taste of the brisket and have to say it was mighty tasty! My mom had the buffalo chicken salad (we saw that massive bowl the night before going by our table and she had been craving it all day) and my dad had the Santa Fe Burger and really enjoyed it as well!
