Decent food and wonderful service for a hospital cafeteria. The selection of meals everyday is limited, but each day brings a unique menu. I've enjoyed their Philly Cheesesteak, which was juicy and worth the price for its portion size. I've also enjoyed their chicken wings, which were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Food Taste The cheeseburgers are excellent. Grilled in-house and priced at $6.15, they taste fresh and juicy. Fries are just okay, not very crispy. But they do give you a ton of it. Sometimes there are onion rings. The steam table is also solid. Hot entrees rotate and are usually well seasoned. Portions are generous and only costs $10 for entree with two sides! The refrigerated section is less impressive. It has salads, sandwiches, fruit, yogurt parfaits, and sushi. Sushi ranges from $9 to $15 depending on type. Nigiri costs more. Overall quality is average. Parfaits and salads are fine but not standout. Value Best value is from the grill and steam table. The steam table meal is $10 and includes one entree and two sides. Cheeseburgers are also well priced. The refrigerated section is expensive. Prices are not clearly posted for many items. Service Service is usually quick, but the grill can be a wait depending on how many people are in line. Often there is only one person working the grill, so things can back up. Staff are polite and keep things moving as best they can. Accessibility Plenty of seating inside and outside. The outdoor patio is clean and quiet. Parking is difficult. It's a hospital cafeteria; what do you expect? Well, a bit more given the proximity to fresh local produce. The chicken purported to be tikka masala with eggplant and potatoes, but it was mostly dry and tasted mostly of pepper. No real spices or even salt. The takeaway sandwiches were mostly thick bread. So much that I go early before an appointment to partake of food in the cafeteria, whether ordering a cheeseburger, grilled cheese, or pre-made sandwich, sushi, or from the around the world food station. Alright, so it's not the best food in the world, but hey, it's a hospital cafeteria - what do you expect?? It's nice that staff is given a certain amount to spend on food, though the amount for volunteers isn't that spectacular, especially since everything is overpriced. You can get 2 hot items at most. Half the time, I can't tell what the hot items are, even with the names written on the white board. Looks like mush......but tastes slightly better than it looks, if that's any reassurance. Usually same hot food every week, changes daily (at least from weekday to weekend). For instance, mac n cheese every weekend. They'll usually have leftovers from lunch for dinner. They used to serve veal on Thursdays, not sure if they still do. That's the best item, but I haven't seen it on weekends. I also haven't seen their brownies in a long while, which are pretty amazing. The salads come in good portions. Dessert is way overpriced, but I usually get this in lieu of an entree because the entrees aren't appetizing. Staff is friendly. One cashier is particularly known for being strict about owing payments, even if you're staff. If you go over your allowed budget by ten cents, you can bet your bottom dollar that she'll make you pay that ten cents! Other than that, sometimes if you're there at closing and there's a ton of food left, they'll let you have more mush - oops, I mean food! read more

Hello there again my friends, here i am again updating my review for "HIGHLAND HOSPITAL" alright, last week i got admitted once more for my CONGESTED HEART FAILURE both of my legs are badly swollen and couldn't fit my shoes could barely breath. It was very bad. My whole experienced changed i think it's how you interact or i don't know how to explain it but, i think if you respect and be straight up to the nurses and not bullshit, you will get a + results. Those nurses that was working that week was very kind and helpful. I was Surprised and shocked. It was a very pleasant experienced and satisfying. My overall rating is 5 over 5. Im hoping that it would be same all the time. Also, i would like to add this, it depends on the day i guess...when you come in on a very busy time everything is different vibe. That's just my observation. I had a blast there the whole time. It's hospital cafeteria food. Maybe not great food but pretty decent (even good) particularly for a hospital cafeteria. There is prepacked salads and sandwiches. Self serve hot item selection that changes daily (Mexican, American, Italian, pizza, etc). And a hot grill that serves burgers and cheesesteaks. There is always a selection of fresh fruit (yay!) (oranges, mandarins, bananas, apples). Some snackey items (chips, energy bars, cookies, etc). As well as coffee, fountain soda, bottles of water. And also a fancy coffee machine that makes lattes, cappuccino, etc. The seating area is large and clean. With 3 tables that are next to outlets. It fills up quickly during peak hours but so far haven't had a problem getting a seat. Overall the staff are friendly and do their jobs well. In particular one of the grill chefs is so nice and engaging and makes a fabulous cheesesteak. Likes to help folks forget they are in a hospital and why. Some of the staff are sorta cranky about hours of operation meaning letting you sit in the seating area after the actual cafeteria has closed. But usually it's the security staff that dictate that and if you're polite they are usually very nice and accommodating. It's one of the few places that is quiet with power (for phones, tablets, laptops) and tables. I'd consider myself a foodie in that I really appreciate good food. And I just can't/won't eat bad food. I don't need anything fancy but I do need good quality. I've eaten here pretty much every day for almost 3 weeks. And while I'd prefer to have other food I'm ok with eating here. And even after 3 weeks think it's decent food and pretty good for a hospital. If you're unlucky enough to have reason to be at a hospital this long (visiting sick family or friends) at least the food is decent. For a hospital cafeteria food and service I'd probably give them 4 stars. But for real life I think 3 stars is about right. Hope that helps. read more

Sadly, some of the grossest food on the planet lies within the bowels of Highland Hospital. I've eaten the hot food one time and ended up sicker than I was before my visit. They have prepackaged sandwiches in the coolers adjacent to the counter. They're overpriced but worth it if you can get them before they run out. The hot breakfast options usually include some sort of egg (fried, hard-boiled, omelet with cheese of some sort), meat (sausage patty/link, ham, etc.) and something carb-ey (French toast, pancakes, etc.) They also have oatmeal or grits on most days. Other options include cereal, fruit, Berkeley Farms yogurt, toast, bagels...standard breakfast fare. The lunch menu is always a gamble. They have a different hot lunch entree every day. If you're feeling adventurous, there's liver and onions. The BBQ beef sandwich is decent. Other entrees include stir-fry tofu, catfish, trout, turkey penne pasta. The sandwich and salad bars are usually safe bets if the entree looks questionable. Desserts are ok, but check the date...I swear some of those pie/cake slices look like they've been sitting there forever. They even have cupcakes (red velvet!) on occasion...obviously not Sprinkles or Yummy Cupcakes (my fave!: http://www.yelp.com/biz/yummy-cupcakes-santa-monica) caliber, but hey, they're still cupcakes... They've built a new cafe and the food is much better fresh salads, sandwiches, name brand coffee and buffet and nice grilled food. To bad I spent to much time here to know this it's a little pricey for a lot of people, but majority of what I ate is pretty good. read more
