My sad, old watch recently died, poor thing. The gentleman who helped me at Oaks Jewelers was incredibly nice. He told me that it might be difficult to get the parts given the age of the watch, but that he would do his best. He gave me a quote significantly less than other jewelers I'd brought the watch to, and was apologetic that he couldn't get the parts for less. He called me not once but twice (!!) to let me know when my watch would be ready, which was even sooner than he anticipated. When I got my fragile old watch back, it was as good as new. I purchased an engagement ring here and Oaks Jewelers exceeded my expectations in every way! I had a family diamond that I wanted to be fitted into a new ring. I came in with a picture printed out from the internet in the style ring I was interested in, and later that day Melissa sent me links to many options to choose from. From there models of the rings I liked were ordered to the store so that I could see them in person. Once I picked out the ring I wanted they quoted me a price for the ring and mounting the diamond, as well as a date at which it would be done. Not only was the price almost half what I had budgeted to spend, the ring was also done in half the time they said!!! My fiancée loved the ring, and when we went in together to get it sized Jeff was very helpful in ensuring we got the sizing just right. I first heard about Oaks Jewelers over 20 years ago from my parents who had great experiences with them. I had wanted to get a couple of vintage Seikos worked on with a lot of work being done (new waterproof seals, swap to sapphire crystals, movement regulated, etc.) and had heard that Larry More, who I believe is the head watchmaker at Oaks, is the #1 Seiko specialist in the Bay Area. I first emailed Oaks about it and they got Larry in touch with me who said that he could do the work required. I dropped off the watches with staff that were extremely friendly, and within a couple of weeks, Larry called me and explained in detail some other flaws that had been found in these watches that were courtesy of a different incompetent watchmaker who shall remain nameless. He also told me that he would do some extra work to fix these flaws such as clean an automatic movement that the other watchmaker left fingerprints on (big no-no), which I was extremely appreciative of. After about a month (may sound like a long time, but perfection takes time in my opinion), my watches were completed and ready for pick-up. The work was done masterfully and when I saw the bill, my jaw dropped from how reasonable it was considering the high quality. Long story short, Oaks has become my new #1 trusted jeweler when it comes to maintaining my beloved Japanese and Swiss automatic watches. In fact, I just dropped off a friend's rare vintage Seiko automatic chronograph to have it overhauled by Larry after he wanted to based on my recommendation! It's no wonder that they have been around for 70 years, they have fantastic customer service and the quality of work for the price is nothing short of unbelievable! I brought my grandmother's opal earring here, having lost the mate, to be turned into a pendant. I had previously experienced poor service at another Bay Area jeweler. I picked up my pendant today. It is exactly as expected. I am pleased with my experience at Oak Jewelers and will come back again for any simple custom settings or repairs. I was helped by Melissa. She asked great questions, was professional and attentive to even small details like which hand I use to clasp my jewelry. They were communicative and followed up with all pieces of my order. They also inquired into the cost of having another raw opal I own bezel set. I chose not to do so at this point in time, but when I am ready to set my other opal I will do so at Oaks. Opals are a stone that are soft- about the hardness of glass. Opals are also heat, and humidity sensitive so you must trust the jeweler you are working with. I spoke with Larry whom has a background in Seiko watch repair. I brought in my 13 year old Seiko Chronograph in for some major service. I had a frozen button, in need of a battery change, and pressure check. The work was done in a few days and the cost about what lower than I expected. I also brought in an older Seiko 5 self winder to get some more information and find out if it as possible to restore. Larry immediately identified the age of the watch, notice that the crystal was cracked, and had an idea of what needed repair from my description. So much information, it was a little overwhelming. Larry searched for parts for several weeks, but these were very hard to come by for a 45 year old watch. Ultimately there was no charge, because nothing could be done. Larry was very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and works very fast. I would highly recommend him for watch repair. read more

This place has good reviews on Yelp, so I decided to go here for a watch battery replacement. I called first to make sure they were open and was quoted $10. Seems about right. They have some decent social distancing protocols in place so that's why they get 1 star. They get ZERO stars for the service. First off, the woman who helped me was rude when i dropped off the watch, no biggie there, it's hard to connect through facemasks and a plexiglass panel. But the reason they get no love here it because when I picked up the watch: 1) Rude service from the same woman, trying to rush me out of there 2) they doubled the quoted price and charged me $20 without a reason or explanation and 3) despite doubling the price they didn't even reset the watch. The chronograph hands were all misaligned, the date was wrong, and event the time was wrong. It takes 5 seconds to reset the time on the watch and shows that you give a hoot about your customer. Clearly they don't. They didn't even reset the time. It took me a good 20 minutes to look up the instructions on how to reset the chronograph hands. You'd think they do that all the time. Maybe only for the big spenders who pay $30 for a cheap watch battery replacement. read more

I brought my engagement ring in to get resized and as many of you can relate, there's a bit of separation anxiety that comes into play just by the mere thought of having to part with something so special and sentimental. Well, like you, I searched for the best jewelry store in town. (I love Mom and Pop shops and support local businesses). I parted with my ring and mentioned that I already had a bit of separation anxiety (hehe). But I really did leave there feeling that I left it in good hands. I thought I'd be without it for a week but to my surprise I got a call the next morning that it was done! Needless to say, I dropped everything and went right over! I've been to Oaks Jewelers a few times. I bought a new watch with a steel bracelet at a department store. They had to size the bracelet for me. Yesterday, a pin fell out of a link. I brought it down to Oaks around noon. As always, everyone was nice and welcoming. I had extra pins which came with the watch, and handed the watch and pins to one of the staff. They took the watch, and brought it back a few minutes later and said here you go. I asked what I owed them and they said nothing. I didn't even buy the watch there! I searched for 3 weeks before I found a jewelry store where I could feel confident leaving an heirloom ring to be re-sized. Oaks has a really stellar reputation. They also have resident jewelers and only send your items out if they are really busy, which they assured me wouldn't be the case. What can I say, I was nervous. Several of my watches needed work and so I looked on Yelp for reviews and went with Oaks, which had high marks and well-written reviews. The service I received there absolutely reinforced those marks, and then some. First, let me say that I have a Fossil Watch that the back had popped off of and it I could not get it back on for anything! I took it to a well known fancy jeweler at Bay Street and the employees there messed with it for awhile before telling me it couldn't be fixed by them. Then I took it to Fossil and the 15 year old there tried (it is a watch store, right?) but that I'd have to send it in myself to Fossil, etc etc. The watch guy at Oaks, didn't even blink when I explained this. He repaired it in about 10 minutes along with two other watches. AND DIDN'T EVEN CHARGE ME FOR IT! He also explained that another watch I was having him replace the battery on (which was previously replaced by the Bay Street Place) was missing the gasket which allows it to be waterproof (no wonder it was fogging up) and the third watch also had not been sealed properly due to it's curved face. I'll give you one guess who did that one as well. Forget just watches, I might bring my car here to this guy next time. Oh, it also should be noted that the customer service is old-school, which means there is ACTUAL ATTENTION PAID TO THE CUSTOMERS. Where has that gone in this day and age? read more

On February 23,2021, I went in to get my sterling silver necklace cleaned, and the older Caucasian woman starred at me like I was a Jewelry theif!!! The younger Caucasian woman took my necklace to the back hesitantly , then came back and claimed she dipped it in cleaner, which I don't believe she did because the necklace was bone dry. She claimed that was as clean as my necklace will get which I think is a lie! I was made to feel that they don't want Black customers. Wow!!! So i wandered in off the street with a broken watch. Simple fix, the chain came apart and I needed a chain removed to make it fit better. The man behind the counter stops what he is working on. I thought maybe I would be told to come back in an hour or even the next day. But no, he starts working on it. A couple minutes later he is finished. He proceeds to give me some advice and information on the watch that I was unaware of. Then as I turn to walk out the door, I realize I did not pay!
