Had dinner here last night with my fiancé and both of us were so thoroughly impressed by every aspect of our experience - that I just had to log-in to write this review. There were a a handful of people waiting to be seated when we arrived and the couple before us were seated at the last outdoor patio table available. The hostess told us that we could go upstairs to the bar area and sit anywhere we wanted and a server would be with us directly. So that's what we did. As a side note, the whole vibe of the restaurant was very comfortable and the building itself is pretty remarkable. Water and menus were delivered within minutes of us selecting our table, and our waitress Victoria maintained that same level of attentiveness the whole time we were there. The biggest shortcoming of so many restaurants in and around Big Bear is the bar and their specialty drinks. But this place just slam dunked on every other restaurant we've ever tried over the years - and not just for the drinks. I love a good old fashioned but until last night, every place I'd been to served their old fashioned in a glass full of ice like I was getting a soda at a fast food drive through. Not here. A proper big block ice cube made the "Maple old fashioned" (hands down) the best drink I've ever had. (I think they've got like 7 or 8 different varieties of the old fashioned and I will definitely be back to try them.) Our potato skins appetizer was on another level and that was before our entrees even arrived. My beef dip sandwich was perfect as was wifey's chicken Scaloppini. The timing of food arriving and the periodic check-ins from our waitress was flawless. We spoke briefly with the bartender, Doug (who may or may not have been one of the owners) to express how much we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The hallmark of a well-run restaurant is that everyone who works there conducts themselves like it's their name on the sign out front. That's exactly what we got from everyone involved. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen staff deserves a Michelin star rating. The rest of the staff is equally impressive. I can't say enough about this place. Excellent drinks, excellent food and dynamite service. If you want a top-notch dining experience in Big Bear, this should be your first and only choice. From now on, it'll be mine. read more

We were quoted a 15-25 minute wait, which somehow turned into nearly an hour. Apparently, Oakside measures time the same way airlines measure "a slight delay." We're a family of four with a well-behaved standard poodle, so we completely understood that our seating options were limited. What we didn't understand was watching two other families with dogs arrive after us and get seated well before us, along with what felt like half of Big Bear. Our "table is ready" text finally arrived 53 minutes after we joined the waitlist. If the real wait is an hour, just say an hour. At least then we could have taken our dog for a hike, grabbed lunch somewhere else, and possibly returned in time for our table. read more

Plus, I paid a bit more for french onion soup without cheese, omg what a delight! Quite steep for the soup, but hey I did not cook. Sometimes i take a break haha. Service is always superb, and presentation of food is nice and clean. Bf had the boneless wings of parmesan garlic, too crunchy but flavor is amazingly awesome. We were walking around the village and decided to stop in here for dinner. The restaurant was pretty crowded, which is a great thing. It was a rather chilly evening so we requested to sit indoors. This restaurant looks extremely upscale, but the servers and the employees are all down to earth very gracious and willing to help. We were promptly seated and asked for a drink order. When our server returned with the drinks, he asked if we had any questions about the menu. We didn't and placed our orders. My wife ordered the Oakside burger and sweet potato fries, and I ordered the French dip along with sweet potato fries. The wife thoroughly enjoyed her burger. It was cooked to perfection. The bun was fresh and the condiments crisp. She also really liked her sweet potato fries. They were hot and freshly prepared. I ordered the beef dip that was served on a unique roll that was outstanding. It really set off the whole sandwich. The Ajou was great, and the fresh horseradish was on point. The entire sandwich tasted amazing. Also, I enjoyed the sweet potato fries. This was a very nice dining experience. We will definitely be going back again when we're hungry for something more than just sandwiches. Their menu looked outstanding with some great looking steaks and seafood. Street level is patio dining upstairs second level is covered and rather dark. Food menu is what anyone can expect from a local pub restaurant diner Same thing can be said about their alcoholic beverages or their non-alcoholic alcoholic beverages You do need to check in with the gal downstairs if you want to sit on the street level patio dining. Shelby, the manager, was super friendly, sweet and helped us with our meal and Kalley was such a pleasant, high-energy waitress who were both great. Salads- well - hit the spot and more!! Jeremie's Caesar salad was topped with delicious and juicy chicken, flavorful house made croutons and Caesar dressing. Side of garlic bread- yum! Mine! All the treats! The kale apple bacon salad- minus the kale (because I'm just a romaine kinda gal). Sweet dried cranberries and green apples, perfect feta crumbles and bacon, with this amazing apple cider vineagrette! And that superb touch of garlic bread. (I could have eaten a whole loaf). Stopped by after snowboarding & was greeted by a friendly host. Wait time was 30 minutes, however reservations are available and recommended. This restaurant has 3 floors, the bottom is dining and the top floors offer bar seating. Service was great, I didn't know they only accepted card/cash payment only but my server was able to accommodate Apple Pay for me. For my drink, I tried their version of a whiskey sour which included cinnamon thyme syrup. For my appetizer I tried their "cowboy bites" which were deep fried balls covered in bread crumbs & inside it has bacon, jalapeño, cream cheese and corn. 10/10 would recommend. For my entree I tried the Oakside burger with Swiss cheese which was also delicious. My only complaint is that I asked for my patty well done but it was still pink. Saturday dinner Memorial Day weekend, got seated right away outside with our pup. Excellent ambiance, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, friendly service staff everywhere. Huge variety in the menu. We were checked on frequently. Started with the garlic edamame and it had garlic!! Calamari arrived with cocktail sauce, which I side-eyed at first but ended up loving. Light, airy, and surprisingly good. The lemon aioli was tasty but painfully stingy. Fish and chips without malt vinegar is a crime. We had to ask multiple times, and it finally showed up about three-quarters of the way through--ideal for lukewarm cod. The fish itself was fine, nothing special. The coleslaw was a sad pile of undressed, unseasoned cabbage. I sent it back for sweet potato fries; the exchange was quick and the fries were solid. Something for everyone. I actually enjoyed the appetizers more than the actual entrees that we ordered. Fried Green Beans: Delicious. Perfectly crispy and fresh. I preferred their regular ranch for dipping over the wasabi ranch. Loaded Potato Skins: Addicting. Glad they didn't scoop out all of the potatoes so it was a very substantial dish. French Onion Soup: Delicious but a little salty. Oakside Street Tacos (steak): Spicy. Meat was a little dry, but the flavor was good. The Butcher Shop Pizza: Ok crust. A little spicy from the sausages. Portion a little on the small side for $24. Everyone enjoyed it as reheated leftovers. Pulled Pork Sandwich: This was ok. After a nice walk through The Village, my boyfriend and I stopped by Oakside for an early dinner. We loved the cozy ambiance, there were options to be seated outdoor and indoor. For our appetizer, we chose the loaded tater tots, which were crispy and topped with sour cream, cheese, green onion, and bacon. It was a very filling appetizer for the two of us to share. We also ordered the Chicken Mushroom Ravioli and Ribeye, which paired very well together! We loved dipping the steak into the ravioli sauce, almost like fondue! Oakside has officially become our go-to restaurant in Big Bear Lake Village. Ray and I went there for a nice dinner, and from start to finish it was an excellent experience. We chose to sit upstairs on the second floor, which was perfect. It's truly an adults-only vibe -- quiet, relaxed, and free from the noise of large groups or families with kids. Downstairs is great for bigger groups, but upstairs is ideal if you're looking to actually enjoy conversation and unwind. Ray ordered the Ahi poke Steak, and it was phenomenal. Perfectly prepared and full of flavor. He also had the Brussels sprouts and corn, which were very tasty and paired beautifully with the ahi. I had the Black and Blue Burger with sweet potato fries, and it was absolutely delicious. The burger was so big I could only eat half -- rich, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. We sat in the bar area, and our server Kayla was wonderful. She was also the bartender, and Ray said she made an excellent dirty martini. I tried a double IPA -- something new for me -- and it was really good. Kayla was an absolute sweetheart. You can tell she genuinely cares about people enjoying their drinks and meals, and it's clear why customers keep coming back. Service like that truly makes a difference. Oakside is one of those places you might accidentally walk past when you first enter the village because you want to see what else is around -- but now that we know it, this will be a must-stop every time we're in Big Bear. Oakside seems like a very delicious place to eat. Unfortunately we were unable to dine in. I did not give it a 1 star even though our experience lived up to that level. The overall vibe is amazing, it has this kind of Lord Of the Rings vibe which is why my and my fiancée were looking forward to dining here for a few reasons. 1- we are eloping in big bear early next year so we were scoping our restaurants that fit our vibe. 2- they allowed dogs 3 - the food looked delicious Once I had gotten in there were two hosts but it took almost 10-15 min for them to seat someone. One would come up then disappear then the other would come up and then disappear. There were about 3 other groups waiting with me. This could just be the way it is but .. there was plenty of seating inside and me and my fiancée with our two dogs were outside so I was not sure why it did take so long. I also asked the host when they were able to seat us if she could take the menus outside to my fiancée who was by the fire to stay warm and she seemed annoyed by it but .. it was a little cold soooo understandable. I needed to use the restroom and did not wan to lose my place in line so that's why I asked to do that. The. I got outside and noted my Fiancée was sitting at a table and not the fire ... My fiancée the let me know that the host told her she could not sit there with the dogs... it was a high table which the dogs could not even get close to the fire to begin with ... so it did not make sense but if those are the rules of the house fine... we asked about heat lamps and with annoyance the host told us we don't do those here. After this we began to really question if this is where we wanted to eat , then our waitress came out and she was really sweet and we asked about the heat lamps again and she was nicer in letting us know they did not do heat lamps. So sadly we decided this was not where we wanted to eat. It was surprising to me ... in a place that gets cold and clients who have dogs you aren't prepared for outside seating at all? I will say... don't let this sway you from trying the food.. it did look really good. But I'd you are looking for a dog friendly restaurant where you can stay warm, and enjoy good food at the same time.. I'm not sure Oakside will be able to accommodate you. read more

Ate here on Halloween Night while everybody else was out trick or treating in the Village. We were sat out on the patio with our two little pups. They very thoughtfully sat us in a corner table to keep us at a peaceful distance from other people with pups, I loved that. We were pretty quickly served water and asked if we were ready to order within minutes. We greedily ordered two apps for just two people but we had no regrets haha the loaded potato skins and the ahi poke were both really great! Although I did squeeze a lime wedge from my drink on my poke to make it a little better. They did not skimp on any of the ingredients here. For entrees I got the Oakside burger and my boyfriend got the chicken mushroom ravioli. This id unfortunately where I cut a star. The fries with the burger were under fried and a bit soggy, and the ground ravioli filling had an odd texture that wasn't too pleasant. Sauce was great though and my burger was well made! Our drinks were strong and delicious as well! Got a blueberry mule and my boyfriend got a prickly pear margarita. Both highly recommend! Went up to Big Bear Lake area to escape the heat from the Valley. Stopped in here for lunch. On the main drag in Big Bear Lake. Nice indoor and outdoor seating area. It can get a bit chilly on the patio areas since they do not have an individual heat lamp next to your table. The center fire pit was a nice ambience but it doesn't provide much heat. So glad we got to try this location. When we drove by it smelled great so we went back. They don't take reservations so you'll need to put your name on the list. We were told an hour but it only took 20min. They do have a bar area and it's open seating. However outdoor deck was only cocktails. We decided to wait and enjoyed sitting in the dining room. I got the ahi tuna burger lettuce wrapped and if you see my picture, it was a lot of lettuce!! But I didn't mind. I ate it like a salad and the sweet potato fries were delicious and very generous! It's a big restaurant featuring indoor and outdoor seating of all kinds - a front patio, indoor seating with some booths, up stairs dinging/lounge and bar with many TVs, and an outdoor patio. It was a Friday evening and the place had a nice buzz. The front patio was busy and we decided to check out the upstairs area which has a lot of space. Oakside reminds of me a BJs (they even have a dessert called the Oakie Dough which is basically a Pizookie) with it's wide American style food menu with various small bites/appetizers (sliders, wings, shrimp cocktail etc), soups and salads, pizzas/flatbreads, burgers/sandwiches pastas and various other entrees. Their drink options are equally great with various beers, wines, cocktails and liquors alike, non alcoholic drinks and more. My friend and I dined upstairs in the bar section at a tabletop and enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. James was our main server whom provided great service, was friendly and cool. Other staff were great as well and helped out. Loaded Potato Skins - Topped with cheddar and mozzarella cheese, green onion, sour cream and applewood smoked bacon. These were done very well and it was a good portion. Wagyu Steak Burger - Half pound patty with caramelized onion, iceberg lettuce, tomato, house burger sauce, brioche bun. Friend enjoyed this burger with fries. Caribbean Jerk Spiced Filet of Alaskan Salmon - Lemon dill Dijon cream sauce. I was told this was a popular item and it did not disappoint. The fish is farmed raised however but was cooked/spiced well. Served with choices of two sides. I went with the gold mashed potatoes and mac & cheese and both were very good. Oakie Dough - Freshly baked to order chocolate chip cookie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream Enjoyed beers, some cocktails and even some coffees and we were stuffed. This was awesome. We decided to take a drive to Big Bear for our friend's birthday. We saw it on Yelp. The staff is excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was great. We got fish and chips, BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich, Chicken Alfredo flatbread and BBQ Pulled Pork Tater Tots. Beca our waitress was excellent. Without us asking, she brought him his favorite dessert, brownie and played the USC March song on her phone. He is a big USC enthusiast. This made the whole meal icing on the cake. We were in town for 4th of July weekend. This was our first dining experience here. The interior was very impressive; clean and well organized. We arrived hungry. Our server was very fast and efficient! The staff was hard working. We ordered the blueberry beet salad, pulled pork sandwich, the truffle pizza, and a slice of red velvet cake (for the road). I was curious on how the salad was going to balance the sweet blueberries. I was not disappointed. The salad was fantastic. I especially loved the dressing they paired it with. The pulled pork sandwich was ok. There wasn't anything not to like about it, but it was your standard pulled pork sandwich. The truffle pizza was my favorite. Absolutely phenomenal! I still ate it, even past the point of feeling full, because the flavor was incredible. We took a slice of red velvet cake to go. I would not recommend the cake. It was dry, stale, and tasted old as if we were eating a cake that had been made over a week or two ago. I assumed that was also why it was dry and stale. We threw it out. This place is probably one of the most popular and busiest restaurants in Big Bear. Wait times can be two hours, but typically like 45 minutes each time we've gone. We've only sat outside each time because we had our dogs with us each time. Food is always pretty good, in the past we've ordered the three street tacos (shredded chicken, onions, cilantro and a tasty green salsa, I get a side of avo), hubs has gotten the kale apple salad with grilled chicken, a burger, the French dip, and calamari. We've gotten roasted Brussels sprouts and potato skins once, too. Everything was well prepared and consistent. Beautiful patio, inside has an Alpine chalet sort of vibe, with outside seating on second story overlooking the street and passersby's. Service is always super friendly. read more

The calamari was the standout -- unlike most places where it's all thick, heavy batter, this one was actually meaty, tender, and lightly crispy, which made a huge difference. You could really taste the seafood instead of just fried coating. The burger was also very solid -- juicy, well-seasoned, and nicely balanced with the toppings. As tourists in Big Bear, we walked around the village and chose Oakside. It was busy, so we waited about 35 minutes, which felt reasonable. Once seated our server was covering both inside and outside, so things were a little slow, but she was working hard as she could and stayed friendly. We don't drink alcohol so we just order water. The kids ordered chocolate milk, but they had run out, so they were given about a half a cup each of chocolate milk for FREE, which we appreciated. We waited about an hour for our food to come out. The appetizers were delicious. But it's kinda hard to tell because we were starving and you know everything taste good when you are at that point. We had Fried calamari and Skin-on potatoes and onion soup. For our Main dishes: Kids' mac and cheese , was a total success. Steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli came out a little cold but we didn't want to send it back since we had been waiting for so long. Angel hair pasta with shrimp was a disappointment since it was so salty, and we couldn't eat it. I let the manager know, and she was extremely understanding and took it off the bill. Great customer service. The atmosphere was a highlight--lots of warm wood, cozy mountain vibes, and perfect for Big Bear's cold weather. Overall, the food didn't fully meet our expectations, but the service and ambiance were great. Always a treat, always. Can't say enough good things - atmosphere is sophisticated yet lively. You feel like you can enjoy BOTH a family dinner after a long hike without looking out of place AND a bombastic dinner with friends laden with salt, fat, and cold beer. The theme is a dark woody-rustic which matches the cabin feel of the community perfectly. Comfortable bench seating and charming bar full of laughter and polished patrons. The servers were fast and the menus were extensive without tipping into too many options. We ordered a mojito, a Moscow mule, the vegan teriyaki chicken bowl, and two impossible burgers. The drinks were stellar - both in taste and value proposition (as they were not 75% ice like you find at other establishments). The teriyaki chicken bowl (pictured) served as a fantastic appetizer to share, and its vegan chicken was very tasty with a strong umami flavor. The Impossible Burgers floored us with their peppery flavor and pillowy buns. Savory barbecue sauce and a dinner plate full of French fries had us beaming ear to ear. If I had any more room in my stomach, I would have ordered another without a single reservation. Finally, the waitress was a doll and checked in on us several times throughout the meal. The check came out quickly with the good ole fashioned courtesy line of "take your time, no rush" which we were tempted to take her up on due in part to the lively setting.
