When you read bad reviews about the service here... you should believe them. We still gave a decent tip but it would be nice if the server didn't just toss the napkins / utensil on the table. Kind of seems like he didn't want to be there. Big bear was super rainy the day we went so it was only our table and one other table there at around 12:30pm on a Sunday. We ordered crab cakes, sauted mushrooms, chicken Marsala, and clam linguine. The chicken Marsala and the crab cakes come with the option of baked potato or mashed potato. Overall, the food was okay for me. Not particularly my favorite because all the sauces felt so heavy. The bill came out to be around $120 which is not the worst. We wanted to eat here for the lakefront view but terrible idea (due to rain). Not sure if I would return back here but it's a good one and done.

Food is amazing, from the Avocado Shrimp, to the Beef Wellington for Two, I can't stop coming here whenever we're in Big Bear. The service is prompt and attentive. Our third or fourth year coming here for our birthdays, and they make the evening amazing. Worth the drive drive from San Diego!

The best steak I've ever had -- no exaggeration. It was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were easily some of the best I've ever tried too -- super creamy and delicious. We also ordered the pesto ravioli, which was fresh, flavorful, and a great addition to the meal. The view was beautiful and made the whole experience feel extra special, and the atmosphere was really nice and relaxing. On top of that, everyone working there was genuinely kind and welcoming, which you don't always find. Overall, an amazing experience from the food to the service to the ambiance. Definitely worth it, and I'll absolutely be coming back.

Greatest restaurant in Big Bear Lake! Best panoramic views of the lake, Kayakers, eagles everywhere, just such a calming, beautiful place to dine! Owners are Midean and Dr Jerry Lemke who are the classiest couple in Big Bear Lake! Dr Jerry Lemke was a successful minister before retiring and building businesses in Big Bear Lake! The most spectacular, panoramic views in all of Big Bear Lake!! The greatest menu with the highest quality foods. I have known the manager, Tony, since he was 19 working at La Montana. My husband and I live in Rancho Mirage six months a year, and the Pines lakefront is as great as Desert Willow, Wally's and other five star restaurants in Rancho Mirage! The powers to be in Big Bear Lake need to promote this high class restaurant! Too much focus on the Village! Many great restaurants on Big Bear Blvd that are not getting the support they need and deserve like Sonora Cantina! Where is Jay Obernolte? He was a highly respected politician who works in DC now! I am one of the highest honored educators in Los Angeles County who was a Moderate Democrat, now a Trumper! I had one if the most impressive retirement parties in Los Angeles County, but will never forget the power of persistence and focus in helping people fight bureaucracy. Big Bear is just not about The Village! Support the Pines Lakefront as the classiest restaurant in Big Bear Lake! Now offering breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays!

Nice restaurant, with a beautiful view of the lake. Attentive service. Food was really good, large portions. Great location for a celebration or to treat yourself just because. Only complaint is we were not offered rolls.

The French onion soup was delicious! We shared the beef Wellington. Amazing flavor and super tender! The service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the sunset over the lake from our table! Spectacular!

They need a new Host. The host is an elderly lady with white hair--probably the owner. She is not kind, abrasive, and seems a little lost. When my elderly mother and I entered the restaurant we asked that our reservation change from three people to two, she said, "As long as you're willing to wait." No question just a statement. My mom has a bad knee so she had to sit down. When the host signal that our table was ready, I told her that we might be a minute because of my mom's bad knee to which she hollered, "C'monn" like calling a dog to follow. She showed us to our table with no menus and no mention of a server--just a blank stare. When my mom asked her where the bathroom was, she just simply pointed and said, "There." 10 mins in, no server to greet us. The ones that do look like servers seem stressed, in a hurry with no smiles--possibly overworked. Our server finally greeted us still no smile and we ordered our entrées. My mom got the trout and baked potato. I got the prime rib, medium rare, but more on the rare side. Presentation and plating left something to be desired. The prime rib was plopped on top of the steamed veggies, which was very awkward to cut slices. I had to move the meat off the veggies but there was no more room on the plate. The prime rib was super chewy and almost inedible. I had to spit out a few pieces that I couldn't get down. The pieces that I could chew made my jaw sore, but I was determined to finish because I didn't want to take it home. The view of the lake is spectacular so it's very sad that I won't be coming back to this restaurant due to the lack of hospitality from the host and poor service. The stars of the evening, were the busers and the expos. They were very attentive kind and even greeted us as we were leaving. Maybe they should be the ones serving tables. The only time the Host smiled was after I signed her petition against the city wanting to take down the restaurant and build a city park or so she said. Even though I didn't like how she treated us, I wouldn't want more development than there already. I do not recommend this place as long as the current Host is still there greeting people. PS - I know bugs are everywhere in the mountains but not exactly sure where all these bugs came from in the middle of our dinner... from under our plates or from the server check book but they all of a sudden appeared sometime in-between the plates being cleared or the checkbook being laid down.

There were a a handful of people waiting to be seated when we arrived and the couple before us were seated at the last outdoor patio table available. The hostess told us that we could go upstairs to the bar area and sit anywhere we wanted and a server would be with us directly. So that's what we did. As a side note, the whole vibe of the restaurant was very comfortable and the building itself is pretty remarkable. Water and menus were delivered within minutes of us selecting our table, and our waitress Victoria maintained that same level of attentiveness the whole time we were there. The biggest shortcoming of so many restaurants in and around Big Bear is the bar and their specialty drinks. But this place just slam dunked on every other restaurant we've ever tried over the years - and not just for the drinks. I love a good old fashioned but until last night, every place I'd been to served their old fashioned in a glass full of ice like I was getting a soda at a fast food drive through. Not here. A proper big block ice cube made the "Maple old fashioned" (hands down) the best drink I've ever had. (I think they've got like 7 or 8 different varieties of the old fashioned and I will definitely be back to try them.) Our potato skins appetizer was on another level and that was before our entrees even arrived. My beef dip sandwich was perfect as was wifey's chicken Scaloppini. The timing of food arriving and the periodic check-ins from our waitress was flawless. We spoke briefly with the bartender, Doug (who may or may not have been one of the owners) to express how much we enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The hallmark of a well-run restaurant is that everyone who works there conducts themselves like it's their name on the sign out front. That's exactly what we got from everyone involved. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen staff deserves a Michelin star rating. The rest of the staff is equally impressive. I can't say enough about this place. Excellent drinks, excellent food and dynamite service. If you want a top-notch dining experience in Big Bear, this should be your first and only choice. From now on, it'll be mine.

For a restaurant in a touristy area, it still lands at a solid 3.5 to 4 stars, but the experience has definitely taken a step back. Cleanliness - there's a fly constantly going up and down the window we sat next to. It was getting a lot of my attention but alas I did not have a fly swatter. Lucky sob!!! Food - portion sizes felt smaller. While Indian dishes aren't typically huge, the presentation this time made them look a bit meager--it could be the dinnerware, the presentation? I don't know. Flavor-wise, something has changed for the worse. The Chicken Tikka Masala was decent, but lacked the rich depth and spice profile of our previous visits. The Fish Vindaloo suffered a similar fate. It wasn't bad, but it lacked that bold, signature Indian flavor. Also, using salmon felt like a misstep; its strong flavor tends to clash with vindaloo spices rather than absorb them. Side note, this dish was not at all spicy. And the server never asked us about the spiciness level of any of the dishes we ordered. Maybe they only offer non-spicy for all their dishes?? The same vindaloo dish at our favorite Indian restaurant in L.A. is very spicy and full of other favors. Service was just ok. The restaurant was quiet, with far more empty tables than occupied ones, yet the food took quite a while to come out. At one point, at least four servers were standing around the counter watching the dinning hall. Yet, other than delivering the food, no one came to any of the tables to check on them once the food had been delivered. Multiple times nearby tables waved their hands in the air to get attention after they got their food. We overheard one young man asking for hot sauce and chuckled - so someone else wanted their food spicier, too!
