If you enjoy nosy neighbors, ultra conservatives, mid night bottle collectors, streets littered with pot holes, and Treeless sidewalks than Island Park is the place for you. Don't be shy, come to our town, everybody is just waiting to interfere with your privacy. Our residents welcome newcomers with superficial smiles and excessive indifference. We want to know everything about you, everything. We of Island Park pride ourselves in complicating the lives of others around us. Everybody just needs to know about everyone else, and what they are doing, and we will find out. Its for the greater good. Its never too late to relocate to happier places, but if your here now, then welcome, and bienvenidos to our new Peruvian and Mexican, Dominican, Guatemalan, and El Salvadorian residents. Many of our white villagers, the closeted nazi's aren't yet ready or comfortable with the influx of differently cultured people that have begun moving into this boring village. One can only hope that the Latin people can spice things up a bit around here. Our village used to be a swamp, which has been gradually sinking for years. We've managed to delay the inevitable but for how much longer only god would know. If you own a house with a garden be sure that your bushes do not exceed a certain height, and your cars are parked properly on the street. If not then fret not. An overweight, and sweaty code enforcement agent is always eagerly waiting on some side street, or behind an abandoned house, to ticket any number of villagers for the smallest infractions. Even if you own the property, it matters not, because the village of Island Park always finds a way to Fine and Ticket its residents. The village is a safe haven for people fleeing Long Beach, Oceanside, or some other equally exciting town ^_^. The village has absolutely zero value, it is by ticketing and Fining that allows Island park to keep the budget balanced (if there is such a thing). As a resident I appreciate the small town government over reach and daily personal interference in a "Republican" leaning village. We enjoy being ticketed at 4 in the morning for not properly parking our cars on the correct side of the street, so be sure to move the car at 3 am. We don't want to rock the boat now do we? Fortunately Island Park is well equipped with Liquor stores and Beer Bodegas. Upon moving into town, your alcohol consumption rate may rise by 60%. This keeps the small towns economy going. There is never a shortage of alcoholics and alcohol dependents, all of them too eager to involve themselves with You. We like getting new people in town. We as villagers judge very quickly, we pretend to trust, and pretend to care. We want what we cannot have, and envy the Harbor Isle people for their paved streets, beautiful trees and clean side walks. No clean streets here sadly, but at least we have each other :).....and beer After living here, you will want nothing more than Gandalf to show up at the door, or an Obi Wan Kenobi to take you very, far far away. But in Island Park, like its streets and pot holes, there is only broken dreams. If your in debt, then your screwed. Like they say in DARE, Just Say No ! Do likewise, and say no to here too.

They accomplished that and tore down the old drug buildings and built a Rite Aid drugstore a Citibank and the child's daycare center. The annex is now run by one of his daughters Madeline Quintyne. Ms. Quintyne like her parents is a pillar in our community, making positive changes for the constituants in the Town of Babylon.

On a small plot of land donated by the neighboring Ritz Plaza Hotel, it was built in 2002 to honor the members of the Engine 54 station, who sacrificed their lives on 9/11. If like me, you struggle after a day of hiking through Manhattan to find a place just to sit down before a performance, this provides a welcome respite with plenty of tables and bench seating. Be forewarned that the steel gate closes at 7PM. Take a load off and give pause to those brave firefighters.

The entrance is nicely structured with a in-ground commemorative plaque and a fully functional bronze structure water foundation. This water foundation also serves as a plaque inscribed with names of firefighters Engine 54 Station perished on the tragic ill-fated September 11, 2001. There are ample seats and tables for resting to absorb and breathe life one moment at a time. I came here several times for resting prior to Yelp Night's "Clybourne Park", "Peter and the Starcatcher" and my poetry open-mic nearby.

Based on a 1975 photograph, the mural is the work of a West Village artist, Ori Carino. It marks a spot dubbed "the birthplace of punk," where the four founding members of the group liked to hang out in their youth. Despite having lived in Forest Hills for a decade, I was unaware of the artwork's existence until I stumbled across it a few weeks ago. It is in the alleyway that connects 66th Avenue to 66th Road.

Everyone refers to Rego Park as Forest Hills. People like Leslie West, Waddy Wachtel, Ronnie Earl, etc., really lived in Rego Park and not Forest Hills but since we all went to the same schools we all referred to the entire neighborhood as Forest Hills. Anyway, this is just a ramp now that leads to a locked gate where no can access. When we were growing up there wee no locks and gates and we played stickball, touch football, ringolevio, punchball, handball, etc., and others, like the Ramones, Leslie West, etc., would hang out on the ramp ... lots of activity but now, all locked up, pretty sad!

I have mixed feelings about Long Island. For many years I didn't come to Long Island and then one day I did, excited about it too, and my experience was quite disappointing. Firstly, nobody came to my concert, and then the police chased me off the island literally. And I'll never forget how aggressive and threatening they were. Some of the worst police interactions I've ever encountered, and maybe you wouldn't expect that in New York state, but there's the truth. Now since then I've had a lot more positive experiences, not with cops though, especially when I come here for food, because I used to make the trek out on to Long Island for Hummus World, which I first tried that first day on Long Island, which is one of the best things I've ever eaten anywhere in the country. So sad though. Unfortunately things change and it closed down and broke my heart. Of the remaining things I've tried on Long Island, which are hundreds in the last 4 years, I've come to see that the island is a refuge from the craziness of New York City, and if you want to get out of there, things get a little bit more peaceful and a lot more suburban, and hell of a lot more green. There's a lot of amazing pizza as well on the island, but none more so than Little Vincent's which is my number one recommendation on the island, along with the Bubble Tea in Great Neck (Mr Wish) which somehow manages to supersede almost everything in New York City itself, and is the best location of Philadelphia's own chain, just by Great Neck Plaza. Other than that I haven't found food that I want to tell you all about and insist that you try, but I'm still exploring and even though it'll never be one of my favorite areas in the Northeast. Long Island is a part of the country which often gets overlooked and forgotten and has hardly any tourist visitors, which makes for a very strange, secluded, yet busy and slow, yet aggressive environment. And if you want me to put my Long Island in your Boston Back Bay, just let me know, but first please take off your Red Sox, I prefer it that way.
