Wifey and the thing on the nautical mile

This place is historical and plus it's a great place to visit. If you're looking for a restaurant there must be at least 30 of them on the mile so you have a choice of what you want to eat Italian and an abundance of different types of seafood If you want fresh seafood they have plenty of fresh seafood markets there also with fish and crabs and clams right off the boat If you don't want to buy fresh seafood you can also get on one of their charter boats that go out everyday at all hours of the day either in the bay or in the ocean whatever your choice is that way you can catch your own fresh seafood And in the summertime they also have jet skis to rent so you can zoom around the bay and have all kinds of fun or pull up to one of the bars right on the canal and have a cocktail or something to eat So if you're in the area of Freeport stop by the mile and I believe you will have a lot of fun

Village of Freeport hones a Nautical Mile local shops, restaurants, bars for plenty food options including mini golf for an active marine community. With a friend to enhance my travels, Freeport's Nautical Mile is all about the community for local businesses. This one mile stretch is a charming marine village. Seafood is abundantly fresh. They strong urge a clean healthy marine waterway as noted in the SPASH program (Stop Polluting Littering And Save Harbors) and "Spirit of Freeport" for the first Trans-Atlantic sea crossing at the Esplanade on Nautical Mile. This one mile strip contains a free parking lot.

After hanging out at the beach...it's a nice place to end the night to walk the strip and find something to eat or drink.

Ask the Community - The Nautical Mile

Does any of the restaurants do brunch?

    How are the prices?

That's all relative to where you eat. You have bars that serve food and then you have more expensive restaurants.

I went solo to the nautical mile last Sunday from about 10am to 1:30pm and had a really relaxing stroll from one end to the other.

I geared up for the cold, started walking and simply let my intuition and internal compass guide me. T'was no surprise that they brought me to the water (shoutout to my fellow water signs) and to the site of my favorite abandoned, and once thriving community center, that is the Oakwood Beach Club. In reading Richard G's review below, I really got a sense of how bustling and beloved of a place it was. As I stared at the now filled in pool, at the lone tire swing that can't push itself, and the large steps to the sand that kids like Richard probably raced and jumped down, I couldn't help but think of time. Sometimes it feels like it passes so quickly, and sometimes seconds feel like hours, but no matter what, you have to appreciate and respect it. As Richard wrote, it is indeed sad that the community has not banded together to maintain or restore this site. Whether purposeful or not, someone important stopped paying attention to what this rare and beautiful landscape needed to continue serving the residents of the community. As I stood watching and feeling the tides roll in, admiring the birds landing and taking off around me, and removing random pieces of glass bottles from the sand, I couldn't help but think nature won this one. Some might say that this is the natural order of things. Yet at the same time, I also felt hope that this location could and will one day return to its potential and create new memories for Richard and his kids one day. Potential, it is an interesting concept. It can be lived up to, or it can be ignored, yet only real effort over some time can give the answer. Perhaps there's a middle ground where both nature and humankind win. Where the innately miraculous and entropic qualities of mother nature and the order of structure and eco-friendly construction enhance the other. Where they serve each other for the greater good. There's a saying, "energy grows where attention flows" and while there's tons of raw energy here, it could certainly benefit from some more attention. In the meantime, what a magnificent treat this place is to those who are adventurousness enough to find it.

Almost no one had a backyard pool in those days and the place was crowded during the summer, especially on the weekends. During the week there were a group of extremely tanned women who played canasta or mahjong while their kids entertained themselves on the swings or in the pool or were away at camp. When I was home working a summer job in high school and during my college years, it was great to bike there in the early evening, swim a few laps in a large cool pool and then chill out watching the boats in the channels. The snack bar was run by a family of one of my schoolmates and was downright friendly. It's a shame that the community can't get it together and make this a go to place, even if it was just a passive park with a number of benches and tables looking out on Middle Bay. It would enhance property values in the area and the Town would get back in tax revenue what it put out to buy and maintain a simple, ecologically oriented public space.

I understand that not every place is child-friendly, but this is a pizza place! We are excited to introduce our kids to a variety of cuisines from a young age, and we thought pizza would be a good choice. They aren't chicken fingers and fries kinda kids . The food was decent; I wouldn't go as far as to say it was the best pizza I've ever had. However, the meal was overshadowed by the hostess's attitude. Throughout our visit, she kept glaring at us every time one of the kids made even the slightest noise. It felt incredibly unwelcoming. To make matters worse, they do not provide high chairs. When we mentioned that we'd still like to stay despite that, since our one-year-old can sit in a regular chair, it felt like a battle just to get one. It was clear that the hostess was eager for us to leave. Our meal felt rushed, as if we were being timed on how quickly we could eat. Her continual glares were uncomfortable, especially since we were seated right next to the hostess stand. It's unfortunate how much a bad hostess can negatively impact a dining experience. I genuinely hope the management realizes this and considers better training for their staff. Overall, this experience made it clear to me that I won't be returning. They really need to work on creating a welcoming environment for families. Especially because of the town they are located in.

Dinner orders were taken, and honestly came out very quickly. I had gotten a brick oven pizza, that was actually very tasty. We opted for some dessert as well, and ended up getting the three ice cream options they had. No picture because our kids devoured them. A cozy little Italian spot close to home.
