Second time at this local meat and 3 restaurant downtown Dalton Georgia. First time had a decent enough sandwich with a friend, this time was quite different. Took my wife this past Saturday at just after 11 AM hoping to have a late morning breakfast. The waitress was rather curt in saying they no longer served breakfast. She asked immediately if we knew what we wanted and when we asked for a few minutes she was visibly upset. We ordered a chicken salad for my wife and I had a French Dip. The best part of the meal was the 3 pickles on each plate and my wife's sweet tea. The chicken salad tasted like cardboard and the French Dip was barely palatable. The French fries tasted like a cheap store brand. While the pricing is very reasonable, we were totally disappointed. Hate to post this, but the inside ambiance was welcoming and could be a great experience. read more

Go for the blueberry pancakes and an omelet. Lunch can be unpredictable, but breakfast is consistent. The biscuits are very good. Good service and friendly waiting people. The restaurant is definitely home to the locals. If you're not a regular, then expect to be checked out. They use local businesses coffee cups, both big and small cups. I would bring your own big cup, so you don't have to wait for refills. Or just ask for a man-sized cup if you like coffee. read more

I had the grilled tilapia with onion rings and squash. The side dishes were cold and the fish went from one really good bite to a bite that was so salty you couldn't eat it. My husband had the chopped steak which he liked. The French fries were cold. The fruit was fresh.The sweet tea makes McDonald's tea seem unsweet. The people were nice. Our daughter had the burger and said it was good. We were traveling and I thought this would be a nice change from what was right off the interstate, it was not. read more

I've been here three times now while in the area for work and every time I have loved what I got. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Dalton. The food is really good and the prices are very reasonable. So far I've tried the bbq pulled pork, grilled tilapia and turkey and stuffing. All three entrees and every side item I've tried has been delicious. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Dalton. read more

This is a long time restaurant in Dalton that has changed hands several times over the years from 1946 (about). Even though ownership has varied it has always been a local favorite. It still is! It has a great and varied breakfast menu that is extremely good. Lunch is also tasty with daily changes in the menu. The same holds for dinner. Service is also good and fast if you are in a rush but not pushy so you can take your time if you need. Prices are extremely reasonable. PS has the best fried chicken around! read more

This past week I was up in the Dalton area to visit friends and had some time to spend downtown. I was walking around looking for a coffee shop or bakery and all of a sudden I saw that fantastic 1930s neon sign standing 10 or 12 ft high on the side of the building saying Oakwood and I decided that's where I was going. Well that and the lovely smell of bacon, pancakes and everything else wafting out of building. I walked into a surprisingly packed restaurant on a weekday at 10:00 in the morning. They do have an auxiliary dining room on the side. I didn't look at that. Sign said seat yourself so I did in a comfortable Booth. There were two servers for that large restaurant and they were doing a great job. I ordered a western omelette had some of the mist crispy bacon that I've ever had. Also grits which were amazing and some gravy on the side which would have been really good if it had sausage in it. It was okay the way it was. It also came with one of the most fluffy tender biscuits I've ever had. I also asked for a side of the barbecue pulled pork which they make themselves in my omelette. When she brought it she said it wasn't ready yet which was not a problem. But about 5 minutes later my waitress who is lovely showed up with a nice plate of pulled pork. A little bit of sauce which I put on top of my omelette that pulled pork. I'll tell you what it was delicious. I would have loved a big plate of grits covered with pulled pork and some grilled onions peppers and some tomatoes. The service was great. The restaurant was clean. Everyone was friendly. Everyone eating there was having an awesome time. My friends in Dalton say the Oakwood is the place to go. read more

i absolutely love this place. my boyfriend introduced this restaurant to me about a year ago and i fell in love!! i haven't tried their breakfast yet, but my favorite thing on the menu are the chicken wings and i normally always get the side of mac and cheese with mashed potatoes and gravy it always come with the choice of a roll or cornbread i believe! but i always get the roll so i could be wrong on the other choice. the staff is also very friendly and kind!! i love the vibe of the restaurant in general. it's very cute and definitely gives downtown vibes. read more

The waitress was unfriendly and we waited awhile without being acknowledged, and also waited for our check. When she walked over to the table to take our order she didn't even speak, just stood there and looked at us waiting for us to order. We ordered french toast, eggs, biscuits and gravy, and sausage with coffee. The french toast was soggy like uncooked bread dough with the occasional crust bit that tasted like very dry toast- the worst I've had anywhere. The butter isn't real butter, the syrup isn't real syrup, the biscuits and gravy were 'blah' as my partner described them, and the scrambled eggs were sloppy. The restaurant was dirty as were the coffee mugs. The only good part of this visit was the man who brought out our food, he was friendly and his 'good morning' was very upbeat compared to the rest of the place. read more

The Oakwood Cafe was the first restaurant we ate at in Dalton in 1988 when visiting the town to decide whether to move here. 35 years later, we are still here. I've eaten at the Oakwood on and off during this time and the food quality has remained consistent. Tweaks have been made to the menu and format, over the years. Tbh I strongly evaluate breakfast based on their coffee. However I already had my morning cup so I got the fresh squeezed OJ; which was pretty good and I'm kinda picky abt my OJ. Eggs Benedict was also yummy, came with fresh lettuce and tomato slices. No meat for me so I got the Canadian bacon on the side for my sister. She had the ham and cheese omelet, and also agreed the food was really good. Has a nice ambiance going on, really like when places have the corner round booths but since it was just the 2 of us we sat in the rectangle booth lol. Honestly would probably check it out again if I'm in the area, only reason for 4 stars was the service wasn't the best.. after getting our food we weren't checked on, Toni wanted another OJ but by the time she had came back it was with the check and they do charge for refills so it was kind of an awkward moment at the table then when she sat the check down I didn't realize we paid at the front and she kept quickly walking past and around us so idk just not the best service but they do have some good food read more

Any time I have the opportunity to have country fried steak, I am in! I was visiting a customer and found this cafe via Yelp. Once I saw CFS I was off to the races. Luckily for me, it was only 6 minutes from customers office. There was plenty of parking across the street. I went at prime time so the restaurant was pretty much fully seated. Once I walked in and saw the seat yourself sign, I was lucky enough to have a family get out of a booth right at the front door. Since it's me I had already scouted this place out and viewed the menu so when my hostess arrived at the table I already knew what I wanted. Country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. I don't usually order mashed potatoes but I remember having CFS and dragging it through my potatoes with gravy and it was divine. My dish was delivered extremely quickly which caught me by surprise given how busy they were. The first bite of my meat was really good. Whatever they seasoned the flour dredge with was amazing. The second bite....was extremely cold. If you've read any of my reviews, cold food just isn't acceptable. My hostess quickly took the plate away and brought me back a piping hot piece. The only issue with that was I put half my mashed potatoes on my plate (the sides came in cafeteria style bowls) so when she brought me a new plate I was minus half my potatoes. Oh well. The potatoes were definitely made in house. There were large chunks in them yet they were creamy. I would totally reorder. The green beans came out of a can from somewhere though. They were cold also. This place could be at least a 4 star establishment if they would pay attention to the temperature of food going out to the floor. read more

Went in for breakfast but it was over,so had to get lunch. The waitress was anything but pleasant! she was rude. I asked how the grilled salmon was prepared, and she said grilled!!! I was asking seasoning wise. she had no patience to answer any of our questions and looked frustrated when we asked. She gave my mother coffee and no spoon to prepare it, my 70 year old mother had to physically go look for a spoon. I was visiting in October and came here and loved it, so when I came back it was the first place I wanted to go,but we were so disappointed. read more
