Mediterranean Egg White omelette 6.15.14

3.5* rounded up to 4 because: My extended family is here at least twice a week, I had two snacks and breakfast and loved it all. The servers are super friendly, the owner was helping with seating and expediting on Father's Day, which was super busy but we were seated in a timely fashion. My Aunt and Uncle always go after mass, and this family run, kinda divey joint all greet them and know orders. Like the "Cheers" of NY diners if you will. My Uncle always has the "classic" French Toast (which means it is on thin white bread, not the expected challah) two eggs, bacon and coffee it must be perfect for him, because Stephanie our waitress knew what he'd order. My Aunt had a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with eggs and bacon and both enjoyed their meals and coffee. My pictured Mediterranean egg white omelette was delicious, overflowing with veggies a nice bite from feta cheese and the eggs were fluffy; hash browns were well seasoned yet undercooked for my taste but I didn't order them extra crispy. Water was refilled frequently and my green tea with honey was fine. Aside from limited hours - which I get in a family joint - this is all you could ask for in a neighborhood diner. Love being able to grab a newspaper or two, talk to the staff and enjoy good food and great service. Quite sure we will be back next month when I'm home again, that is what I like about this place: I'm a fan of all things HOME. There is no place like home (even though I never lived on SI it is in NY which makes it count :) See you soon!

Went last night with the family for dinner. We had just started going here on a recommendation from my mother in law. First time we went there, they were still in the middle of their renovation and expansion. The food was fine; nothing crazy good, nothing bad, just average diner fare that was slightly different than Mike's on New Dorp and Andrew's on Hylan. I remember ordering the grilled chicken with sautéed spinach. No complaints there. Wife had a burger, cooked right, fries hot. The kid got the open turkey sandwich. The gravy on the turkey was obviously NOT turkey gravy, but beef gravy (it was dark brown). OK its all pretty much the same thing so who cares. Service was difficult to say the least. The main counter is in the back, as is the owner, the kitchen and all the waitstaff were huddled like a gaggle of geese, gossiping incessantly. Still, I can forgive that. People are people. Then the camel's back was broken last night. The Wife likes to occasionally have breakfast for dinner. Who doesn't? So she orders an omelette. Cheddar and bacon, pretty simple fare. She always asks for the cook not to dry it out; she hates a dry omelette. So the food comes to the table. She begins to eat it and something isn't right. She proceeds to pull a piece of bacon put of her mouth that was undercooked. OK, move onto the next bite. Now it's not undercooked, but on the edge of raw. It was as if the bacon was folded into the omelette raw and it only cooked a little bit while the egg cooked. How does a mistake like that happen? The waiter, an extremely nice man, shaved head with a local accent apologizes, offers to remake or replace and my wife goes for a grilled cheese which came out perfect. The waiter advised us that of course the omelette was coming off the bill but in addition to that the grilled cheese was free as well. Mike Jr., I commend you on an excellent waitstaff (when they are available) and your handling of the situation was spot on. But now the psychological effect of that raw bacon is hard to get over. Hopefully your kitchen staff smartens up, and I hope something like that never comes out of your kitchen again. But as far as we're concerned, we can't come back after an incident like that. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Can't tell the difference between sausage and bacon. How do you get that wrong? I don't understand how inept people are.

Service was terrible. The food was cold, not a friendly place in the bathroom was disgusting. It's not worth the money.

5/27/2026 What could I say about this place that everyone…read moredoesn't know about..... absolutely nothing lol. Always recommend getting a reservation weather calling or walking to the booth. Our wait was at least an hour and a half and were texted when our table was ready. They have indoor and outdoor seating with one bathroom for all to use. We got the viral pancakes and they were everything you'd dream they be and then some for sure very filling and buttery. I got a "pick me up" and it was perfect gave me a beautiful caffeine kick to start the day I recommend for sure. Weather you come for the viral moment this feels like a solid staple in the community with bright music playing everyone kind of everywhere and just a relaxed feel that you can't wait to enjoy after you get seated. Bathroom rating 5/5 very clean for how busy the place is :)

It didn't open until 9am, but by the time we came around at 830am..the line was ALREADY poppin' lol. I was like okay...maybe it is really good. We got lucky as we were able to be seated in the first rounds of the tables that they had outside. We ordered the pancakes, wings and thai tea dessert. UNFORTUNATELY, for me, this place is OVERHYPED. Sure, the pancakes were soft and soaked with honey butter...but its really NOT THAT GOOD. I would never wait in line for this place. The wings were just meh...not really crispy, wasn't great as other korean wings I've had. The dessert was recommended and it was my least liked item ordered lol. All three items for a whooping $70. NO THANKS

Well, WAS is the key word. My husband gave it 3 star because of the mission of the Cafe, but the food he would give a 2. We ordered the cheese grits bowl for pickup. We got a container of cheese grits- okay but they needed salt and more cheese. A container of scrambled eggs cooked soft like we asked but they also needed salt, and a container with 2 sausage patties (which were flavorless). We also got a side of biscuits. Dry, seemed like the kind in a can- with no butter or honey, just a bunch of ketchup! My husband saw the banana pudding in the mason jar- so he added that to our order. $8. He went back in because he didn't see it. They said it was in a container. He returned and it was in there- in a very tiny container barely filled halfway- looking nothing like the one in the restaurant, and it wasn't that good, the bananas weren't ripe, and still hard. I'm thankful for the mission, so we may give it another try but maybe eating in is the way to go- we won't do takeout again!
