We were looking for a diner. My husband wanted bfast and the kid and I wanted something else. At first we were impressed by their pickle plate. Everything on it was tasty and satisfying. But then came dinner. I ordered a cheese burger with fried onions. I got a stale bun with half cooked onions and smallest burger I have ever seen. And the cheese. Omg. The cheese. Remember the cheese that was individually wrapped? It looked like the wrapper was still on. And tasted like it too. I did not get lettuce and tomato because I forgot to ask for DEEluxe. Well they charged me 5$ for the lettuce and tomato. I stopped eating after two bites. My husband said his omelet was ok, but the cheese was grainy. There is actually no grain in Cheese. So I guess that was their rendition. The kids tuna melt was piled high with lettuce and tomato and yep. Covered in that plastic, neon orange cheese. It was bordering on subpar until we got the bill. $96. For crap we couldn't eat. No thanks. Waitress was nice tho. read more

The Oakwood Diner is by far the very best Diner on Staten Island! The service is impeccable! From take-out to wait-staff to bus-boys- they all work together to make your Dining experience one to be remembered! Now the food! Omg-my Besty Dess & I went there for breakfast last eeek and I had the most amazing fresh avacado on rye toast, topped with a once-over medium egg -cooked to perfection! They gave you 2! My friend had a cheese omelette with hash browns and bacon that was over the top! I k ow you're thinking, yeah, but it's just breakfast! No, no, no ! This is a mouthwatering breakfast extravaganza! Coffee added as needed, extra napkins!!! All of those things are important to us cause we expect the best! Well, they over exceeded the best! We were so pleased! 2nd time eating breakfast here. It's been 2 wks since I ate its Eggs Florentine Benedict and I am still thinking about it. Yes, it left a fantastic impression on me. I couldn't eat the entire platter in one sitting and took the rest home. Despite the English muffin soaking up the jus from sauteed spinach, it was just as delicious as the first bite. Instead of poached eggs, I asked for scrambled eggs and they obliged. One of us ordered eggs/bacon/sausage platter and pancakes. Good portions. The staff are accommodating. We were a party of 6 adults and a 2-yr old. We had so many requests. I hope to be ordering another eggs Florentine soon! I recently started coming for lunch again. I have been back a number of times. Wanted to give a review. Staff and service is very good. No complaints. Food has been very good - different meal each time. All consistent. They might have changed the tables around in the middle/have divider from the last time I was there. I think this helped tremendously with the noise level. I did think it was very loud and hard to have a conversation before. No issues this time. This was nice! Keep up the good work! read more

I was recently there for the first time. I ordered buttermilk pancakes with sausage and a shake. 3 pancakes came with the pork sausage and the shake. The pancakes were terrible. They were flat and had no taste. the sausages were good and the shake was also good but came in a small glass. I make pancakes myself and use Aunt Jemima now pearl with 1 egg and milk, they come very fluffy not flat and are delicious. $10.50 for 3 pancakes without the sausage seems overpriced. At other diners the shake comes in a big glass. I don't know how the other food is but I was very disappointed. I don't know if I would go back again. read more

I have been going to this diner for years the service used to be much better the last time I went. It took almost 15 minutes to even get a waiter or waitress to come. We ordered one thing to share. We had to ask for refills on our drinks ask for a separate plate. The Panini was horrible. There was like nothing on it. It was mostly just bread. Definitely very overpriced. The bathroom was dirty. Definitely wouldn't rush back here. I used to come multiple times a week. Very sad. read more

I know the restaurant industry is going through an extremely difficult time so it really pains me to do this but I have to call out Mike's Oakwood Diner for not following basic social distancing protocols and also warn other fellow foodies. They did not offer a drop and go option and on top of that they had the delivery man stand outside the front door to run a card on a portable machine. They could've easily taken the card info over the phone but did not. I get that they're swamped but what they're doing is pure negligence and incredibly dangerous to both the customer AND the drivers. There wasn't any space between the driver and my mother as she waited for him to run her card. On top of that the delivery man did NOT have gloves on while delivering the food. Unbelievable! Will not be ordering from them during or after this pandemic is over. read more

3.5* rounded up to 4 because: My extended family is here at least twice a week, I had two snacks and breakfast and loved it all. The servers are super friendly, the owner was helping with seating and expediting on Father's Day, which was super busy but we were seated in a timely fashion. My Aunt and Uncle always go after mass, and this family run, kinda divey joint all greet them and know orders. Like the "Cheers" of NY diners if you will. My Uncle always has the "classic" French Toast (which means it is on thin white bread, not the expected challah) two eggs, bacon and coffee it must be perfect for him, because Stephanie our waitress knew what he'd order. My Aunt had a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with eggs and bacon and both enjoyed their meals and coffee. My pictured Mediterranean egg white omelette was delicious, overflowing with veggies a nice bite from feta cheese and the eggs were fluffy; hash browns were well seasoned yet undercooked for my taste but I didn't order them extra crispy. Water was refilled frequently and my green tea with honey was fine. Aside from limited hours - which I get in a family joint - this is all you could ask for in a neighborhood diner. Love being able to grab a newspaper or two, talk to the staff and enjoy good food and great service. Quite sure we will be back next month when I'm home again, that is what I like about this place: I'm a fan of all things HOME. Things that I liked about this place: 1) the food, the matzah ball soup was savory, the French fries were crispy, and the chicken tenders were fine. 2) the interior, it was roomy enough and the designs on the walls were tasteful. Things I didn't like: 1) the service, there was almost no one in the diner and even getting us drinks seemed to take a while and we only saw our waitress at the order and delivery. Before we even finished eating she handed us the check without inquiring if we wanted anything else. Went last night with the family for dinner. We had just started going here on a recommendation from my mother in law. First time we went there, they were still in the middle of their renovation and expansion. The food was fine; nothing crazy good, nothing bad, just average diner fare that was slightly different than Mike's on New Dorp and Andrew's on Hylan. I remember ordering the grilled chicken with sautéed spinach. No complaints there. Wife had a burger, cooked right, fries hot. The kid got the open turkey sandwich. The gravy on the turkey was obviously NOT turkey gravy, but beef gravy (it was dark brown). OK its all pretty much the same thing so who cares. Service was difficult to say the least. The main counter is in the back, as is the owner, the kitchen and all the waitstaff were huddled like a gaggle of geese, gossiping incessantly. Still, I can forgive that. People are people. Then the camel's back was broken last night. The Wife likes to occasionally have breakfast for dinner. Who doesn't? So she orders an omelette. Cheddar and bacon, pretty simple fare. She always asks for the cook not to dry it out; she hates a dry omelette. So the food comes to the table. She begins to eat it and something isn't right. She proceeds to pull a piece of bacon put of her mouth that was undercooked. OK, move onto the next bite. Now it's not undercooked, but on the edge of raw. It was as if the bacon was folded into the omelette raw and it only cooked a little bit while the egg cooked. How does a mistake like that happen? The waiter, an extremely nice man, shaved head with a local accent apologizes, offers to remake or replace and my wife goes for a grilled cheese which came out perfect. The waiter advised us that of course the omelette was coming off the bill but in addition to that the grilled cheese was free as well. Mike Jr., I commend you on an excellent waitstaff (when they are available) and your handling of the situation was spot on. But now the psychological effect of that raw bacon is hard to get over. Hopefully your kitchen staff smartens up, and I hope something like that never comes out of your kitchen again. But as far as we're concerned, we can't come back after an incident like that. went there for lunch and ordered double bison burgers on toasted english muffins with cheddar cheese medium-rare( knowing most diners overcook the burgers) hoping to get it medium. The "toasted" english was anything but! I believe the cheese was put on a raw muffin and then "toasted" in the broiler to melt the cheese which was melted to the point of being infused into the muffin. Didn't matter how I ordered the meat,it was dry well done! With enough ketchup and hot sauce it was almost edible. This is one more thing the put on the " do not order here" list. Only gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the wait staff is friendly and most of them are very good at their job. read more

I come here every now and then with my kids. The past few times I have been disappointed. I feel the quality of food has declined and also the way it's played served. I ordered a falafel sandwich today and the falafel was hard there was barely any lettuce in it it just looked sad. I sent it back couldn't even eat it. The time before this I ordered spinach pie with Greek salad the salad was pathetic barely any lettuce. They said because of the Romaine issue they were short on Iceberg and wasn't given as much. Well I'm still paying the same price it was just ridiculous. The falafel sandwich was taken off the bill. So that was one perk of today's visit. read more

Haven't been here in a while but the relatives wanted to come here for lunch. Waiter was great don't know his name but he left a huge platter of slaw,pickles. Beets, chick peas. Was good to pick on while looking through the menu. Me and the wife weren't that hungry so we stuck to appetizer sampler which was chicken wings. Chicken tenders . Double baked potato skins. Mozzarella sticks. Was a good amount of food for 2 people. My aunt and uncle had a big cheeseburger plate and she had a big panini plate as well. Too bad we weren't hungry. Updating my review because after going there for years I like their food even more and they are good hard working people. A few faves of mine are the veggie panini, tuna melt and seafood salad. The Oakwood Diner offers very good food with generous portions. I have never had dinner there without leaving with a doggie bag. Generally speaking, this place operates like a well-oiled machine. It is a busy place with plenty of help taking phone orders, counter orders, filling coffee cups. Plenty of servers tending to the customers EXCEPT on Monday mornings. If you are pressed for time on a Monday morning, go somewhere else because you will easily wait 10 minutes for your order to be taken since there may only be one server on duty doing all of the above. Went here tonight with my husband for an early dinner. We had a very friendly, nice , attentive waiter. He's been there for years. My husband ordered the blue cheese burger, it was cooked perfect. The worst diner I ever been to ever. This was in February 2012 They don't assist you into finding yourself a seat and when walking in there was a lady there selling bootleg dvds... Then while eating my lunch the employees were cursing and having conversations that the customers could here and it was not professional. I find the oakwood diner to be consistently good and the portions are very large. The oatmeal is probably the best I have ever had in my life and the pancakes are outstanding. The soups all seem to be homemade and the specials have always been good, especially the grilled lamb chops, the place also has surprisingly good pasta dishes. This is a real neighborhood place and it is a way to really experience Staten Island, most of the staff are really nice people and the owner treats them like family.
