This is a local diner close to my In-laws place in Forrest Ave in Staten Island, NY. Like most diners, the menu is amazing filled with so many options. The place has chrome-like panels like in the 60's. The booth reminds me of Happy Days and the long bar counter is beautiful. As for the food, it is a diner, therefore, the serving are incredibly big portions. The food came out well and the taste is like what you expect from a diner. We were fortunate that we had a wonderful and patient server. This young man took our orders, delivered what was requested and visited us enough time to ensure we are doing well. If you're in Staten Island and hungry, give this place a try

I think some of these reviews are overly harsh. Not all, but some. Maybe I just haven't caught them at a bad time, but Mike's Olympic Diner on Forest has never let me down. They have 4.1 stars on Google Reviews. The contrast in reviews on Yelp & Google tells me that some people just really like to complain. I've been ordering and getting food in person at Mike's for years now. The food is filling, and delicious quite frankly. However, I do agree that the prices are a bit steep. But I don't order from them everyday. I'm eating them as we speak and keep stopping to eat then go back to typing. Mike's Olympic is my go-to place to order diner food. They haven't failed me yet, so I'm leaving a good review. Good food here!

When I think about eating at a diner, I often imagine a diner in the middle of a dirt road that offers a place of solace and comfort. In this imagery, painted by movies and television, what makes a diner so warm and homey is the nurturing waitress that is friendly, kind, nurturing, and provides a calming presence. That was Doreen for me, who made my dining experience so warm and comfortable. We had some small talk which helped me relax after a long night taking care of our newly arrived baby girl. When I wanted to change my order, she was prompt and wasn't defensive like some others might be. The food was also plentiful and filling, coming out piping hot and delicious. They also occasionally come around to refill our coffee quite frequently, which makes diners feel cared for. Although diner foods have been getting more expensive due to inflation, I believe it's worth it especially with the nice little warm and friendly interactions. Thank you Doreen, for making this experience so calming and enjoyable. Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

The best comfort food for a Saturday night in. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection.

There were ANTS on the table when we were being seated. ANTS. I didn't notice right away when I sat down, so I had stayed in the same spot for a few minutes, by which point my jacket had some ants over it. For reference, this table was by the back entrance to the left. I moved myself without asking and called over my waitress to tell her about it. She laughed and said she was sorry and that she'll get someone to take care of it. Hint: I sat there eating for over an hour, and no one ever came to "take care of it". So besides the fact my coat had ants on it, I ordered some breakfast plates and could not be any more disappointed. It was like the pancakes were soggy and rushed. The eggs tasted like they came out of a wooden container, and the coffee tasted stale. Really hits you hard when you realize your party spent roughly $50 on meals that weren't worth half that. Disappointed. They used to be a really nice spot, too.

I was on Staten Island yesterday for a work project. Everything went smoothly so I had time for lunch before heading back. Please let me get this out of the way first. I'm not a fan of Staten Island. Sorry just not. To me the entire island is laid out wrong. Getting from one place to another can be a nightmare, and the Staten Island Expressway, well don't get me started. I guess you'll have to take that into consideration with my review of this "Diner". I've passed Mike's Olympic Diner many times and often thought " I should try this place". I shouldn't have those thoughts. We walk in and are seated promptly. Why not there's only three other tables occupied. A young man come over takes our order and leaves. Of I ordered a hamburger which said it came with mushrooms and fried onions. I prefer sautéed onions but whatever. My associate orders an omelette. Omelette for lunch? Again whatever. I say associate, but he's actually my son wanting to learn the business then kick me out. LOL Back to lunch... 30 minutes and we're still waiting. 30 minutes for a burger and an omelette. A man, who I think was the owner is just walking around drinking a soda. How about stroll into your kitchen and see what's going on. Finally lunch comes out and to my surprise the "fried" onions are actually sautéed onions. After one bite, my roll falls apart because it is so soggy. I cut it up, eat what I can and ask for the bill. BTW I ordered an iced tea with it which came with ice, but the drink was warm and the ice melted in minutes. Took about 5 minutes to get the bill too. Good bye. I gave two stars should only be one but I recently bought a new set of wireless ear buds, then misplaced them. Well when I got in my car a noticed them wedged between the seat and the door. I guess I have to give Mike's Olympic Diner some credit, but don't be confused it's certainly not for the food or service.

Well, WAS is the key word. My husband gave it 3 star because of the mission of the Cafe, but the food he would give a 2. We ordered the cheese grits bowl for pickup. We got a container of cheese grits- okay but they needed salt and more cheese. A container of scrambled eggs cooked soft like we asked but they also needed salt, and a container with 2 sausage patties (which were flavorless). We also got a side of biscuits. Dry, seemed like the kind in a can- with no butter or honey, just a bunch of ketchup! My husband saw the banana pudding in the mason jar- so he added that to our order. $8. He went back in because he didn't see it. They said it was in a container. He returned and it was in there- in a very tiny container barely filled halfway- looking nothing like the one in the restaurant, and it wasn't that good, the bananas weren't ripe, and still hard. I'm thankful for the mission, so we may give it another try but maybe eating in is the way to go- we won't do takeout again!

I ordered a Greek salad with chicken cutlet (dressing on the side), and my friend ordered the chicken salad sandwich. My friend immediately noted that the chicken salad was overly salty and had an overpowering onion taste. She didn't complain--just quietly set it aside and didn't even mention it. As for my dish, I had about three slices of the chicken before realizing it tasted off--like it had been cooked in old oil or was leftover and reheated. Then I noticed the lettuce was soggy. When I moved it around, I saw a pool of water at the bottom of the bowl. It was clear the lettuce had been rinsed but not drained--at all. I showed our waitress, who casually said, "They probably didn't rinse it well enough." What made things worse was the price--$30 for a soggy salad and subpar chicken. We spoke with another waitress, who had it 'reduced' $9, which still felt excessive given the quality. I then waited nearly 20 minutes to speak with a manager. When a young woman finally approached, her attitude was immediately defensive. She questioned my reaction, even asking, "Why are you looking at me like I have five heads?"--in front of other guests. She was literally gaslighting me blaming me for my bad food experience. I admit, that was probably the look on my face.... dumbfounded that someone was speaking to me like that... She accused me of overdressing the salad (I hadn't used any dressing at all) and claimed our original waitress had offered me something else (she didn't). The manager refused a full refund because I had eaten part of the chicken and a few bites of lettuce--despite the dish being genuinely unappetizing. I was asking myself in the moment if this was really happening.... Over the past few years, our takeout orders have often been wrong, and the food has consistently been overly salty or just mediocre. We never made a fuss. Once, we received pita bread with a bite taken out of it--the owner denied it was teeth marks. Another time, my friend was served a completely burned burger. Still, we let it go. But this time, being treated with rudeness and condescension when I finally voiced a legitimate concern was unacceptable. As someone with 15 years of restaurant experience, I understand things happen--but hospitality and accountability matter. Sadly, Annadale Terrace no longer reflects the service, quality, or professionalism it once did. I won't be returning. 7/16/2025 Response to your response, which has the same exact tone as I experienced in person and now readers will see for themselves: Your reply is not only disappointing--it's wildly off-base and exactly how you'd respond. I've dined at Annadale Terrace for over 12 years and had more than 400 meals between myself, friends, and family. Do the math on how much we've spent over the years. We dined in/take out 3-4 times per month- do the math. Never--not once--have I asked for anything to be taken off the bill. So to suggest that I suddenly had an issue just to get a "free meal" is not only insulting, it's ridiculous. The lettuce was waterlogged and wilted and I pushed the lettuce to the sides of the bowl so I could see how much water was there. The chicken tasted off too--facts I pointed out to a second waitress who knows us, who actually came over to inquire, and has waited on us many times. She saw the dish herself and I took pictures of it. Instead of accountability or a sincere apology, your manager chose to gaslight me in front of other guests going so far as to say, "Why are you looking at me like I have five heads?" That wasn't service--it was condescension. To be clear, this was the one time I shouldn't have had to pay for a salad I didn't eat. No one offered me an alternative dish, and we waited an excessive amount of time for someone--anyone--to respond or come to the table. The manager never approached us at our table. Yes, $9 was removed from the bill--but without an apology or explanation, it felt dismissive and transactional. The waitress came back and dumped it on our table. That, combined with the tone and attitude we received, was what made this experience intolerable. I mentioned my background in the restaurant industry not to be lectured, but because it's exactly why I've always given you the benefit of the doubt when food didn't come out right, or take out order was wrong, cold or when service fell short. We let a lot slide over the years--a lot. So don't throw my experience back in my face as if I don't know what I'm talking about. This wasn't about a free meal. It was about your team's refusal to own up to a problem and treat a long-standing customer with even basic respect. Your dismissive response just proves my point: the quality--and the hospitality--at Annadale Terrace is no longer what it used to be.
