The way I see it Uvalde has two things going for it: Matthew McConaughey was born here and The Oasis. As an avid non-hunter, normally I'd avoid a place like this. Oh but ...Country Fried pork chops topped with queso and pico de gallo. 0_o. Its a-freakin-mazing. The brisket is tender yumyum goodness on whitebread and the catfish is huge and crispy. We ate here late on a Friday night when in town hunting. The place was fairly busy, even at that time. The food was solid, with good portion sizes. At our table, folks had AYCE catfish, chicken fried steak, and Sausage. All of these were tasty, and they had a full salad bar that was an extra $2.99 with any entree. The service was good when we were there, with no issues. If you order alcohol, they get it from the drive through beer barn next door, and it comes in a bucket with ice, so I guess that allows them to avoid a liquor license. Even at that, with it hand carried to me, it was only $2.50 for a Dos Equis long neck, which I thought was a great deal. Good salad bar with lots of variety including desert options. I could have only ordered the salad bar. The fried catfish appeared frozen and reheated. It was mushy instead of flaky. Fun place to go before a hunt to buy all your last minute items like a hunting license. There are some awesome animal mounts on every wall. read more

Unfortunately for Uvalde, options are limited for a good place to eat. I had hoped that this would be better than the rest in town but it's not. The salad bar is about the only thing that is really good. The food is always hit or miss. There is no real consistency in it. The staff is usually less than friendly with the exception of one particular waitress. Most of the others take long getting to get to your table and just as long to bring what you request. I have even had one waitress that I asked to bring me a refill on tea pass the glass to another waitress and tell her that we weren't her table and she wasn't going to get it. Also they are only open late during hunting season. During the rest of the year, they are open late only on Friday and Saturday. Lack of options!!! read more

We kept looking and looking for a bbq place in Uvalde...once we found this one, we knew why all the others had closed. It's in a sporting goods store (kind of a small town Cabela's knock-off), but don't let that fool you -- really excellent bbq. Don't miss the locally-made sausage! This is one fine place to eat. My wife and I each ordered the big burger. There is a separate hamburger bar at the end of the salad bar where you go to add pickles, jalapeños, onions, mayo, mustard, lettuce, etc. to create the desired individual hamburger. The meat was perfectly cooked to our individual requests and was moist and seasoned with 2 Gringos rub. The fries were cooked to the proper crispness and lightly seasoned with season-all which took them above the ordinary. The attractive waitress was very efficient, friendly, and smiled throughout. The tables next to us all ordered the chicken fried steak and raved over it. I will try that on my next trip through Uvalde. This is a fun stop and serves large portions of excellently prepared food. We come here after our dove hunts and have for years. Great salad bar!!! The cactus sticks (fried green beans) are our family favorite. Nice waitstaff and they don't mind moving tables to accommodate lots of us (20+). The women's shopping is great. The menu here is great. The service was fast and pleasant. Prices were reasonable and the food is delicious. They even delivered us cold beer from the neighboring beer store. They are only open for dinner on friday and saturday though. Being located in the middle of an outfitters store, the atmosphere is a bit strange. read more

Oasis Outback has an awesome, very well filled salad and soup bar. Our ribeye steaks were well seasoned and cooked just as we like them. The baked potatoes were very hot and the toppings are on the salad bar, so you can serve yourself as much as you want. Our waitress was attentive. My father and I have been coming to Oasis for the past decade and we absolutely love it! The quality of the food has increased as well as the service from staff members. The cactus sticks are probably the best appetizer anyone should order. With the purchase of a meal, small free ice cream cones are included! The shopping on the other side of the store is great too. I think the bad reviews on this place are from a bunch of sour grapes. This place is AWESOME!! It's great for the whole family! My husband got to look at stands and hunting gear. I got to shop and find some cute things in the ladies boutique. We all ate at the restaurant and LOVED it! Our waiter was phenomenal, I wish I remembered his name. The salad bar has endless options, such a great value. I had a chopped brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was fantastic. My husband got chicken fried chicken, our friends got a burger and a steak. Everyone loved their meals. I highly recommend this place! Terrible! Stopped in here for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon (not a peak time). Ordered 2 turkey sandwiches and a cheese burger. We waited over a hour for those items. The waitress kept apologizing and said the ticket was lost but after watching her ask the cooks several times where our order was it seemed like neither of them cared. Finally after a hour we had to take it to go so we didn't miss meeting our clients.While paying for our meal we explained that it took over a hour to get our food and expressed our disgust with our experience. The cashier rudely asked we felt we deserved a discount. We said that would be a nice gesture to do since the service was terrible. She took $6 off our $30+ ticket. Another waitress was by the cashier desk when we were paying and she apologized to us and said this wasn't The Oasis' best day. Just before we met our clients, we got to enjoy our very sub par sandwiches and burger. Will never go back especially to eat. read more

We stayed at the hotel across the street, we gave it try since it was walking distance. Glad we did, it was delicious and not expensive. The salad bar had a huge selection. The macaroni was cheesy, brisket, and chicken fried chicken was delicious. You have to try this place, if your in the area. read more

After reading the reviews here I regret reporting that the barbecue here is BELOW average. The meat was old, dry and fatty ! I think the manager for the restaurant used to manage the defunct Golden Corral in Uvalde. Since he took over the food area, it has been great! The bread is bought, not made there; but, who cares? It's hot and delicious! The salad bar is very nice, fresh, delicious. I always have the salad bar. The chocolate pudding is divine! The waitresses are cordial and prompt; the cashiers friendly.
