An absolutely cool place! It's a big, open yet intimate restaurant that has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor is enclosed and covered with a smaller opening to get a nice breeze but keep the elements away. The food looked fantastic as some people in our group got pizzas, loaded fries and sushi. Went here for a private event. Loved the different bars with different specialties (a wine bar, cocktail lounge, and beer hall on different floors). I had the Joi nachos for $19. 3 deep fried triangular wrap material with a few chunks of raw tuna, chopped cucumber, a smattering of sprouts and a half teaspoon of what I think was caviar. Totally tasteless. My partner got the $22 pad Thai. a totally tasteless light tan mess of sauce, pasta and chicken pieces. Absolutely NO outstanding flavor. It was presented as though the chef opened a can and dumped. Too lazy to even make it LOOK presentable. We wouldn't have chosen this place as we had a disappointing experience when they first opened. Great spot for Sunday brunch! The Mediterranean burger here is pretty damn tasty. This place has plenty of interesting options on the brunch menu and offers a nice atmosphere with a good mix of indoor and outdoor seating. It's also surprisingly quiet on Sunday mornings and around noon, which is perfect for a laid-back meal. Highly recommend the eggs benedict on salmon cakes - they are super flavorful! Definitely worth checking out for brunch! Their menu seems to change frequently, so some of these things may not be available when you go. read more

Great food spot, but the service is slow. Stopped-in on a Saturday and the dining room was less than 1/2 full. Initially we were seated in the most directly sun-beamed table and asked to be moved to another high top. Took quite a while for the server to stop by initially. Also, bar drinks came out slowly (beer foam was gone and ice was melted) and waters went empty for awhile. Food was delicious for sure, but took a good amount of time to come out. It's been a while since we've been to Boerne for a meal. Today, I made reservations @richtertavern, and brunch was being served. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had Coffee, and I had the Anti-Scurvy Punch with rum. Dad and I shared the 2-egg Omelette with bacon, ham, mushrooms, and onion, and florentine potatoes. Hubby had the 2-egg Breakfast. Hubby and I shared the Mediterranean Burger. The best part was the ranch chips! Everything was delicious and prices were so reasonable. Jacob took good care of us. We came to Boerne for a conference and the after event was at the Richter. All the appetizers were amazing. We always talked about returning to Boerne for a long weekend---so here we are. We started with cocktails. My husband loves Mezcal. They had a Mezcal cocktail on the menu but they offered to make a special Mezcal, off the menu, for him. It was delicious. They decided to add it to the menu. We started with the poached pear salad. Reading the menu, it sounded phenomenal, but eating, it was even better. We hope to re-create this at home. We decided on a pizza, which we had a hard time deciding. We did the Blanca---prosciutto, mozzarella, basil, and garlic ricotta-- also, amazing. The waitress was great at pairing wines with our food. We had watched a show on the Richter with one of the owners that is big into wine. I will say they have an extensive wine list of stuff you don't see everywhere. Which was really nice and they weren't outrageously priced. If you don't drink all your wine, they can cork it and you can walk out with it. We highly recommend all the locations at the Richter and plan to return. read more

I received food poisoning from here. Verified from the hospital trip I had to make. Beware....

A little disappointed. My wife had been here for lunch a few times so we went with friends for dinner. Menu overall was a bit limited but we all found some choices. It appears if you like sushi this may be a good place. I had a pizza which was solid although they were actually out of pepperoni so did not get exactly what was ordered. Friend got the pad Thai which he stated was tasty and both our wives got the Mahi which they both stated was good. We got a mixed green salad to split. Good and fresh but very small portion for the price. Friends got a Caesar salad which literally looked like a small head of romaine was split in the middle and served with dressings and croutons. Preparation definitely could have been better on that. Atmosphere was loud and tables quite close together. Not sure how busy they usually are but we were there on a Saturday night and not too crowded so maybe consider removing some tables and create a bit more space. Definitely nothing terrible but for the price was expecting a bit more. A solid 3-stars. read more

Well, it was time for another luncheon with my retired teachers group. This year I let 12 of the retirees pick the place for a month. One of them picked Richter's, so that's where we went for February. My wife had been there with her group before and gave it her seal of approval. I had heard that there was plenty of parking. However, the lot right next to the restaurant is now a paid lot. It cost me $6.35 to park for three hours. The restaurant supposedly gives a discount for parking, but I didn't ask for it, so I don't know. I was with a lady who can't walk far, and would rather pay the money than park for free at the courthouse and hike over. Still, I wish the website had something about the paid lot. The other surprise for us was that on Tuesdays, they have a smaller "selective menu". It was still a nice menu, but everything I had planned on when I studied the menu on the website was missing. I ended up settling for a Butternut Power Green Salad that turned out to be AMAZING. The textures of the pepitos and the dried pomegranate seeds blew me away. The dressing was tart and tangy. I asked the server for an extra little cup of it, and it was just the right touch. I ordered a chicken thigh for my protein. It was served on its own little cast iron skillet. It was nicely cooked and tastily seasoned. They had a selection of desserts including several flavors of boozy ice cream. I opted for the Chocolate Mousse Brownie. It was very good. I wish it had been brought to room temperature before being served. It would have been even better. There were 13 of us at the table, so there were lots of different orders. Everyone liked their meals. Two people never got served. When our wonderful server, Kayla, noticed the problem, she let both of them have their meals on the house. I don't know what the mistake was that left them foodless. Their food came out pretty fast after that. The venue is large. It feels like it is in an old factory or something. I really liked it. It is on the second floor of the building and has a special big-city-loft coolness to it. There is a beautiful old-style bar up front. I wish I had ordered a margarita. I saw a server carrying a tray full of them, and they looked great. I would like to go back some time with my wife to try the "real" menu. This is really a special date night type of place in my opinion. read more

Showed up without reservations on a busy Friday afternoon. Boerne was having a Christmas event.Their upstairs patio is dog friendly. I did have my dog with me. We were seated immediately. It did take about 10 minutes for someone to bring us water and a menu. For a minute, I thought I was going to have to go order at the bar. Once we placed our order, everything was quick. The drinks were at our table before we knew it. Our appetizer came out quickly. We shared the tuna tartare nachos. I highly recommend them. Great flavor. The wonton chips are the perfect base layer. I could've had that for dinner all by myself. We also shared the goat cheese pizza. It was a good size. The crust was crispy. I had a glass of the Hess Cabernet. My mother had the where-d my man-go drink. It was pretty boozy. No complaints. The waiter did check on us a few times. Just as an FYI. I got lost finding the place. There are two entrances and the place is on the upstairs part. You can come in through Main Street and just walk towards the back to the stairs or elevator. Parking is street parking. My siblings and I were visiting Boerne in March and had the incredible pleasure of visiting the Richter Tavern! We were especially delighted to meet Guy Sanders, the owner of the building, who took us on a tour of the Tavern, the Speakeasy, and the Cork and Keg wine seller/wine bar while we were there. There are SO many wonderful things to say about the Richter! A quick summary: The building has been lovingly restored with impeccable attention to its original history. The furnishings and overall ambience are extremely authentic; when they couldn't get the original pieces, they found extremely close period pieces or reproductions. The bar in the tavern is reminiscent of the huge bar in Cody, WY, and is indeed genuine. The garage doors on the ceiling of the Cork and Keg and the downstairs hallway are from the building's original incarnation as a garage. The original artwork scattered through the building is superb and well-chosen. The overall vibe is extremely welcoming, with large open areas on every level and staff members who are honestly pleased to be of service. The prices for food and drink are quite reasonable, and the menu is eclectic with something for everyone. We unfortunately were only able to enjoy a glass of regional wine while we were there, but it was delicious and perfectly served. And the best part of all is Guy himself. He is friendly and engaging and a consummate host. He has all the stories of the Richter's history, as well as of the town itself. After 10 minutes of talking with him, we felt like we've known him all our lives! He truly loves the building and the town, and his enthusiasm is infectious. We can't wait to return to the Richter! We found a chill spot to have lunch at with a classic feature of a 1923 Model T. Our server was genuinely friendly and helpful. Whenever we visit Boerne we'll definitely dine in again! #1 must visit tavern in Boerne. Nestled away off Main Street, are some public restrooms. Nearby we smelled open gooey cinnamon rolls and were compelled to follow. We found a retro-modern ice cream shop serving sweets and a cinnamon roll as big as your head. Putting the icing on is an experience. And if your of drinking age, you can get "adult" ice cream. Don't stop here though! Go round the corner where you'll find an old model Ford truck in front of a wine and beer bar that used to be... a mechanic shop. I struck up good conversation with a bearded fellow about drinks, Texas towns, and how the bar was built. It became clear he was the owner and he's invested 5 years of his life into the place with his wife. Surrounded by art, old bricks, paintings, old bottles and car parts (and booze), I got a history lesson on Boerne and about UPSTAIRS. He gave us a personalized tour telling us that the design of each floor had cohesion and some overlap of drinks but more importantly different ones. Finally got to try the new (to us) menu. Loved the Oben Old Fashioned, so I ordered another. The Guy Roll was generously portioned, tasty and filled with fresh Tuna. Best Sushi in Boerne. We also had the Cioppino pasta, and it was delicious. Mussels, clams, shrimp, Mahi Mahi in a yummy tomato broth with perfectly cooked noodles. The Basque Cheesecake is made in the bakery downstairs (not from a box) and had a creamy custard flavor and no crust. Best Cheesecake I've ever had. Seriously! I usually get the Joi Nachos for lunch. The brussels sprouts were very good, as was the sushi. The poutine needed some work. The potatoes were huge not crispy steak fries under the melted cheese curds and pork. Not to our liking. Was told kitchen manager doesn't care about customer complaints. Is obviously a failing restaurant because the whole place was empty. Living in Boerne, this is one of our favorite staples. An absolutely beautiful building with a classy, relaxing atmosphere. All service we've had has been excellent. Food is great, with a seasonally rotating menu. Their pizzas are some of my favorite to get in Boerne. Prices are a bit high, as is everything pretty much. I'd say the food is worth it. The Richter also has a private bar/lounge area upstairs that you can use by purchasing monthly or yearly membership. Well worth it between the intimate setting, and knowledgeable/talented bartenders.
