Anyways, the bellhop guys were nice they gave me recommendations for where to eat and also helped carry my suitcase up to my room. The bedroom was small, really small and the view was of a back lot with dumpsters and the side of a building. Sure, the room was hip and funky and cool. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional. Listen the room was fine, but for $500...and this was a heavily discounted room because I booked through Hotel Tonight. Anyways, I walked the hotel at night and it was nice because I had the place to myself, the pool is really pretty at night, it's lit up, I recommend walking outside and having a seat on their comfy couches above the pool. In the morning I continued exploring the hotel and when I went to check out the dining room I was receiving unfriendly glances from the hostess or whoever she was. So much so that I stopped and asked if it was okay that I was looking around, to which she replied, "Well are you eating?" I said no and that I was staying here and just wanted to check out the view. I am a pretty average looking chick, was in work out clothes, maybe I didn't fit the high end clientele look and it seemed to bother her. Anyways, the people at the front desk upon check out weren't the friendliest either, seemed annoyed when I asked if they had change for the bellhop. The man at the concierge desk who I believe has a job of making sure everyone in the hotel is happy and having a grand time didn't even acknowledge. me the four or five times I walked past his desk. I felt unwelcome to be honest.

The front desk staff was friendly and efficient when checking in. Rooms are a little small but for one person who wasn't in the room much it was fine. There is a coffee maker and mini fridge in the room. The bathroom is decent size with a walk-in shower. I thought the shower head was a little tall, but I am also only 5"2. The workout room was in the basement in a small room with no ventilation. We had to keep the door open to have some air come in. They have breakfast in a cute room on the 2nd floor with typical hotel breakfast food. Since the weather was nice the windows were open to give the room a breezy feel. I liked there was a restaurant onsite. I would stay here again if I am ever in La Jolla.

It's clear the staff takes great pride in keeping everything clean and well maintained. We really enjoyed the pool and spa area, which had plenty of lounge chairs and shaded spots to relax. The courtyard was another favorite, with foosball, ping-pong, and other games that kept everyone entertained throughout the day. The fire pits located around the property were such a nice touch, especially in the evenings. The restaurant right on the sand was a stunning setting, complete with fire pits and heaters. The food was delicious, and the views made it even better. What truly stood out was the service--everyone we encountered went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. So we go out around 10 to enjoy Sea World or the Zoo, and we go out to lunch, and we just want to rest in our room before going swimming and we get back around 3. No one has been in the room. We call, and they apologize and no one shows up. We call again around 4, and at around 4:30 the room gets cleaned. Not once, not twice, but four times in our one week vacation. It's a 1st world problem and maybe I'm just a Karen, but I didn't like that.

The small stuff that wasn't worth sweating: outlets are rather oddly placed in the room (most often hidden behind furniture in such a way that it was hard or impossible to plug anything in; we used the washroom outlet most) and if you're in a first floor unit (we were in 5), you can definitely hear your upstairs neighbours walking about. All this doesn't negate the positives for me. Brooke is the most wonderful concierge and goes out of her way to accommodate for her guests (personal text to notify that the room was ready early, luggage storage solution since our flight wasn't until the evening). Having on-site parking was a huge bonus, and at $20 per night it was well worth the convenience of parking just steps from our room. The staff (specifically Maritza) was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The only real drawbacks were related to the building itself. We stayed on the ground floor (Room 5), and noise from the room above was very noticeable. Even normal walking could be heard clearly, and footsteps and doors closing carried through the ceiling enough to disturb our sleep. We later had different guests above us and experienced the same thing, so it seems to be more of a sound insulation issue than inconsiderate guests. Another inconvenience was the lack of electrical outlets. There were only two outlets in the main room, and half of one didn't work. We ended up using the third outlet in the bathroom to charge our cell phones. There were also no outlets near the bed, which was inconvenient since it's nice to keep your phone plugged in and within reach overnight. The room was charmingly antiquated. The mini refrigerator also leaked water during our stay. It appeared the small freezer compartment had accumulated enough frost that it likely just needed to be defrosted, so it seemed more like a maintenance issue than a broken appliance. We also noticed a few small bugs in the room during our stay. Given the oceanfront location and coastal humidity, this may simply be part of the environment, but it's something future guests should be aware of. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. Next time, we'd request a top-floor room to minimize the noise from above.

Window unit AC serves to cool the room, which runs constantly trying to keep the room to your desired temp. What they advertise as a "Fitness Center" has hours of 8am-9pm. No mats, no bench. Affordable at the cost of lowering your standards. One positive note: Nice to have a parking lot that's complimentary to guests. Customer service was lackluster.

The construction is bothersome but I was never bothered by the sounds. Progress comes with inconveniences so it didn't bother me personally. Here's why I lowered the rating. The elevator is HORRIBLE. Something should be done in the massive renovation and it was completely unreliable. Especially, since there's only one carrying luggage down the stairwells is risky at best. The brand new lighting in the bathroom was a big fail! The lights are mounted behind the mirror and my wife could barely see because it's so dim. I have to agree even finding my contacts was difficult with these dim lighting. Fix those two things and you would have a five rating.

Wedgewood has nothing to do with the actual hotel and their policies. I will never stay here again. Their lack of care and concern for their guests is obvious. They run a factory here of people coming for weddings so they are making bank from all these guests and don't care in the least about pleasing the customers or any concerns the guests have. I tried reaching out and they put the blame on the other guest for the smoke stench and said we should've reached out so they could help. We did call the front desk to complain but no one answered the phone, Then we went to front desk to talk & the person working responded with an OK. Nothing they could do. We opted to stay here since it was so convenient with the wedding venue on the rooftop. We were not told about all the construction until after we signed the contract. That probably would have deterred us from signing. The day of the wedding as the wedding party was getting ready, they were jack hammering on the sixth floor. The sixth floor is where we were all staying because the rooftop venue is on the sixth floor and it made it convenient for family and friends to all be together close to the venue. The construction noise was so horrible not to mention the stench of smoke coming into the rooms from either the workers or other guests staying at the hotel. The elevator was slow as snails. We had elderly people in our group and some had to climb the stairs just to make it to the wedding because the elevator took over 20 minutes waiting for it. Ridiculous. If you had a room with an ocean view, you were lucky because you didn't feel claustrophobic, and the views were good. If you choose a basic room, there are no chairs, just the bed and the TV on a stand. There is no bar soap for your hands in the toilet area. They said we needed to use the liquid pump soap in the shower when we asked for hand soap. No lotion either. If you want ice for your ice bucket, you need to go to the front desk and they have to go get it for you. Good luck because there was always a line of people for the one employee working so you would have to wait. The lighting in all the rooms was horrible. Big fail there. Luckily, they had the parakeet café downstairs which had coffee and pastries, a few yogurt items, and smoothies. For a full breakfast, you would have to go to a restaurant in the village up the street, but the walk is a very steep hill in case you are with anybody that has a problem with that. There are no vending machines in this hotel if you wanted something else to drink other than water. They put two small bottled waters in the room that are five dollars each. No sodas at the cafe either. The seals start barking by around 4 am- not hotel fault but just be warned. No sleep if u have an oceanfront/view room. So the wedding venue is what saved us. The wedding was perfect. The hotel was a fail. And if you call or write to complain and express your concerns they will just give you an apology and dismiss you. They don't care.

There was drilling and hammering that sounded like it was right on our ceiling. I think the rates should have been discounted or if we could have at least had a warning we would have canceled our booking. I can't recommend this place.
