We had the best time staying at the Orli! It's tucked away in the jewel of La Jolla with lots to do and the rooms are insanely gorgeous. We stayed in one of the upstairs suits that came with a rooftop balcony and it was so cozy and perfect for the family. We brought our projector to play the padres game on the deck and ordered take out sushi it was sooo much fun. The staff was nothing short of incredible. The courtyard was super fun to hang out in and the complimentary cold brew was such a plus. This is by far my favorite boutique hotel in La Jolla.

We thoroughly enjoyed the two nights we spent at Orli La Jolla. It was easily one of our most comfortable stays - the concierge team were super helpful and took excellent care of us. We stayed in the Nomad room - the room with two queen beds - which was spacious and comfortable with ocean views. The room was super quiet and the beds were so comfortable. We arrived a little early and they were able to hold our luggage for us - then brought it to our room so it was ready when we checked in. Text worked well to communicate - anything we needed was a text away - and the staffed front desk was also outside in the patio so we could always talk to someone during regular hours. They also let us know about wine hour via text - a really nice choice of wines and we enjoyed sitting in the patio and enjoying them. The cold brew and kombucha were delicious - and they had Sugar & Scribe pastries every morning - which was a wonderful surprise. They also outfitted our room with a Nespresso coffee maker and provided granola bars and bottled water. The grounds were immaculately kept - and ever detail was well thought out. We paid ahead for parking (which I would recommend) - and it was a short walk from the hotel. All in all, we had a wonderful time in La Jolla and hope to visit Orli the next time we are in town.

The most beautiful and perfect stay. This hotel was absolutely amazing. The check in process was seamless the staff was outstanding. The ambience was relaxing and so comfortable, stylish and the attention to detail on every aspect of this place is just outstanding. Over all I will stay here in the future indefinitely. I'm so glad i was able to experience this place and its surroundings. About 29 minutes from just about anything you can think of in San Diego. A must stay!!!!

Stayed at the Orli for 2 nights earlier this month to celebrate my birthday and had the most incredibly relaxing time! We (my husband and our dog) stayed in the Irving Gill Penthouse, which had two stories and was spacious, well-decorated, and comfortable. They provided a fluffy dog bed, bowls, and a new toy for our dog, who basically thought the entire trip was for him. The outdoor terrace upstairs had plenty of seating and a beautiful view. There were two mini-fridges and two Nespresso machines (one on each floor - so convenient!), and a convection oven and hot water kettle that we used multiple times. There was also plenty of tableware and drinkware, along with everything we needed to wash the dishes (sponge, dish soap, dish rack, dish towels). Before arriving I was a little worried about being able to find our room (since it was communicated that check-in would be contactless and that they didn't have a front desk), but when we stepped into the courtyard there was someone on-site who immediately greeted us and guided us where to go. Everyone we met who worked at the hotel was super friendly and helpful, and both the courtyard and lounge areas were exceptionally clean and inviting! There were plenty of delicious places to eat within walking distance, and it was an easy walk to the beach as well. I'm already planning a return trip - I can definitely see myself coming back not only for a vacation but even to work from "home"!

When we checked in, the woman at the front desk named Raina was extremely rude, cold, and short with us. I tried to brush it off and went to take a few photos of the Christmas decorations in the restaurant. This entire exchange happened within the first 10 minutes of trying to check in. Throughout the rest of the stay I watched the bellmen greet virtually every other guest who entered or left the hotel. Not me. I was consistently treated like I was just a kid or teenage tag along with parents rather than an adult guest who was paying to stay there. Basic acknowledgment and ordinary human respect were completely absent. Nice location and cute decorations do not make up for being ignored and spoken to with open disdain by multiple staff members. This place is an incredible value for the cost, again I feel like I need to gate keep this but yelp is about sharing....you're right across from the ocean, with some of the best views in La Jolla. We stayed in Room 208 and while there are no elevators or luggage carts (so pack light or be ready for some stairs), the oceanfront views totally made up for it. The hotel has a charming, older vibe, but it's well maintained and fits the beachy, Balinese-inspired theme perfectly. Our room came with an above-average kitchen setup, which made it easy to prep snacks and simple meals during our stay. Free water bottles in the lobby were a nice touch, and the complimentary breakfast (7:30-10:30 a.m.) was way better than your standard hotel spread, fresh, even the bacon was crispy but not over cooked, tasty, and filling. It's just a short walk to the beach, the kid-friendly "children's pool" area, and of course, the famous La Jolla seals. Be warned: La Jolla has its fair share of hills, so if you're bringing a stroller, be ready for a bit of a workout. This was our first time staying here, but it's already looking like it'll become our annual end-of-summer tradition. Next time, we're definitely staying longer.

They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. Overall, it was a good experience, but a few things didn't quite match our expectations. Upon arrival, the building wasn't as "grand" as it appears in the promotional videos--it has more of a homey, slightly outdated feel, though still pleasant. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, even offering a golf cart service on a first-come, first-served basis for late-night rides back to the hotel, which was a nice touch. Our room was nice, but not exactly what we expected. We had requested a king ocean-view room--the view was absolutely amazing--but the bed was definitely closer to a queen size. Unfortunately, my husband had trouble sleeping because his side of the mattress was sagging. On a positive note, the bathroom was spotless--really well maintained (check out my photos!). And the location is a huge highlight--within easy walking distance to local shops and restaurants, which made everything super convenient. Overall, a mixed experience: great location and service, but some room details could definitely be improved.

Having on-site parking was a huge bonus, and at $20 per night it was well worth the convenience of parking just steps from our room. The staff (specifically Maritza) was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The only real drawbacks were related to the building itself. We stayed on the ground floor (Room 5), and noise from the room above was very noticeable. Even normal walking could be heard clearly, and footsteps and doors closing carried through the ceiling enough to disturb our sleep. We later had different guests above us and experienced the same thing, so it seems to be more of a sound insulation issue than inconsiderate guests. Another inconvenience was the lack of electrical outlets. There were only two outlets in the main room, and half of one didn't work. We ended up using the third outlet in the bathroom to charge our cell phones. There were also no outlets near the bed, which was inconvenient since it's nice to keep your phone plugged in and within reach overnight. The room was charmingly antiquated. The mini refrigerator also leaked water during our stay. It appeared the small freezer compartment had accumulated enough frost that it likely just needed to be defrosted, so it seemed more like a maintenance issue than a broken appliance. We also noticed a few small bugs in the room during our stay. Given the oceanfront location and coastal humidity, this may simply be part of the environment, but it's something future guests should be aware of. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. Next time, we'd request a top-floor room to minimize the noise from above.

The hotel itself feels like a nicely renovated Travelodge--which it actually is--but the room made all the difference. We chose what felt like a rooftop addition: a single top-floor suite with a large private, semi-wraparound deck. It was genuinely impressive, and we loved it. The young gentleman who checked us in was charming and friendly, and we were glad to arrive. Our room was clean, and the view from the top was excellent, even with a slight obstruction. One of my least favorite post-pandemic trends is how many hotels have adopted the "reduced service" approach, which often reads as "we can't be bothered." When you're paying hundreds of dollars a night, basic service shouldn't be a negotiation. The Shoal did mention this policy upfront. The next morning, on our way out, I stopped by the front desk to keep things simple for housekeeping. We only needed two things: replacement pumps for the broken shower product dispensers (two of them), and the bed made. Straightforward. They did replace the pumps, and we appreciated that. But they didn't bother making the bed. Oddly, they did clean the bathroom and replace towels--something we didn't ask for. When a guest makes a basic request, why is it missed? Policy? Forgetfulness? Inefficiency? Hard to say. The hotel's location is excellent--about two miles from the village in a mostly residential area. There's a charming little gourmet market down the street and several restaurants within walking distance. The beach is just steps away. Even with the on-and-off rain, we genuinely enjoyed our La Jolla weekend. The food scene in this town is strong.
