We thoroughly enjoyed the two nights we spent at Orli La Jolla. It was easily one of our most comfortable stays - the concierge team were super helpful and took excellent care of us. We stayed in the Nomad room - the room with two queen beds - which was spacious and comfortable with ocean views. The room was super quiet and the beds were so comfortable. We arrived a little early and they were able to hold our luggage for us - then brought it to our room so it was ready when we checked in. Text worked well to communicate - anything we needed was a text away - and the staffed front desk was also outside in the patio so we could always talk to someone during regular hours. They also let us know about wine hour via text - a really nice choice of wines and we enjoyed sitting in the patio and enjoying them. The cold brew and kombucha were delicious - and they had Sugar & Scribe pastries every morning - which was a wonderful surprise. They also outfitted our room with a Nespresso coffee maker and provided granola bars and bottled water. The grounds were immaculately kept - and ever detail was well thought out. We paid ahead for parking (which I would recommend) - and it was a short walk from the hotel. All in all, we had a wonderful time in La Jolla and hope to visit Orli the next time we are in town.

The most beautiful and perfect stay. This hotel was absolutely amazing. The check in process was seamless the staff was outstanding. The ambience was relaxing and so comfortable, stylish and the attention to detail on every aspect of this place is just outstanding. Over all I will stay here in the future indefinitely. I'm so glad i was able to experience this place and its surroundings. About 29 minutes from just about anything you can think of in San Diego. A must stay!!!!

Stayed at the Orli for 2 nights earlier this month to celebrate my birthday and had the most incredibly relaxing time! We (my husband and our dog) stayed in the Irving Gill Penthouse, which had two stories and was spacious, well-decorated, and comfortable. They provided a fluffy dog bed, bowls, and a new toy for our dog, who basically thought the entire trip was for him. The outdoor terrace upstairs had plenty of seating and a beautiful view. There were two mini-fridges and two Nespresso machines (one on each floor - so convenient!), and a convection oven and hot water kettle that we used multiple times. There was also plenty of tableware and drinkware, along with everything we needed to wash the dishes (sponge, dish soap, dish rack, dish towels). Before arriving I was a little worried about being able to find our room (since it was communicated that check-in would be contactless and that they didn't have a front desk), but when we stepped into the courtyard there was someone on-site who immediately greeted us and guided us where to go. Everyone we met who worked at the hotel was super friendly and helpful, and both the courtyard and lounge areas were exceptionally clean and inviting! There were plenty of delicious places to eat within walking distance, and it was an easy walk to the beach as well. I'm already planning a return trip - I can definitely see myself coming back not only for a vacation but even to work from "home"!

A hidden gem in the center of the La Jolla Village, Orli has to be the most unique hotel I've had the pleasure of staying at. It's luxurious, without being out of touch. The entire design from the lobby to the individual suites is so beautiful. I love how it feels less like a hotel and more like a home. You could see the thoughtfulness behind each detail -- from the room names to the signifiers in each room (like binoculars or a Polaroid camera) to the water and dark chocolate waiting on the bedside table upon arrival. During my stay, I was able to work from the peaceful Courtyard, walk down to the beach with my puppy in under 10 minutes, and have a myriad of local experiences (again, all within walking distance). I was given a custom code to use on the keypad on my suite door (goodbye to the days of forgetting my key card) and never had an issue entering or exiting. I also received a custom link to the web app so I could easily chat with a member of hospitality team if I needed to, seamlessly order juice, and restock my towels (the latter two without having to talk to someone directly). The web app also gave me all the details I needed to have a comfortable stay. Speaking of comfort, the bed was (for lack of better words) amazing. I can have difficulty sleeping in other hotels due to their mattress and bedding choices, but at Orli, I fell asleep so quickly and woke up not wanting to get out of bed. My stay at Orli was nothing short of flawless, and it is now a mainstay for any time I visit San Diego.

Review of La Valencia Hotel…read more I purchased a day pass here as someone who works in the hospitality industry and is always curious to experience new properties from a guest perspective--and La Valencia absolutely delivered. I arrived pretty early in the morning (optimistically expecting sunshine), but even with the typical coastal overcast, it didn't take away from the experience at all. In fact, I somehow ended up with the pool almost entirely to myself--in the middle of August, which felt like a hidden luxury. The setting is just beautiful. The views, the calm atmosphere, and the overall sense of escape made it easy to settle in and relax. I spent about five hours there and never felt rushed or overlooked. The staff, especially at the cabana bar, were fantastic--attentive, respectful, and genuinely pleasant to interact with. I ordered food and drinks throughout the day, and everything added to the ease and enjoyment of the experience. The only small downside is parking, which can be a bit tricky--but that's pretty standard for La Jolla. Overall, this was an incredible day experience and absolutely worth it. I'd do it again without hesitation.

I paid $500 for the room, arrived around 10 pm and had to check out by 11am, quick $500! There was a $45 resort fee, whatever that means. Still would love to know what that was for. Anyways, the bellhop guys were nice they gave me recommendations for where to eat and also helped carry my suitcase up to my room. The bedroom was small, really small and the view was of a back lot with dumpsters and the side of a building. Sure, the room was hip and funky and cool. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional. Listen the room was fine, but for $500...and this was a heavily discounted room because I booked through Hotel Tonight. Anyways, I walked the hotel at night and it was nice because I had the place to myself, the pool is really pretty at night, it's lit up, I recommend walking outside and having a seat on their comfy couches above the pool. In the morning I continued exploring the hotel and when I went to check out the dining room I was receiving unfriendly glances from the hostess or whoever she was. So much so that I stopped and asked if it was okay that I was looking around, to which she replied, "Well are you eating?" I said no and that I was staying here and just wanted to check out the view. I am a pretty average looking chick, was in work out clothes, maybe I didn't fit the high end clientele look and it seemed to bother her. Anyways, the people at the front desk upon check out weren't the friendliest either, seemed annoyed when I asked if they had change for the bellhop. The man at the concierge desk who I believe has a job of making sure everyone in the hotel is happy and having a grand time didn't even acknowledge. me the four or five times I walked past his desk. I felt unwelcome to be honest.

Parking is in a public garage across the street. You pay $25 through an app and use a QR code to enter/exit. The scanner repeatedly failed. We had to get out of the car multiple times on a steep underground incline just to get the gate to open. We kept showing the QR code on our phones and nothing. We tried again and again. This would take 5 minutes every item trying to enter and exit. Finally it would respond. And the people in front of us and behind had the same problem Around 9 PM on a Saturday night (Valentine's Day) the garage gates were closed. The hotel staff should've warned us that parking closes early around here. Several hotel guests were standing outside with us , frustrated and confused. We called and the hotel told us to use an alternate entrance on another street. Once inside there was no way to find your car. You're on a different level having entered in a completely different side and at night. It took 17 minutes walking level to level to find our car. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic, so this stress and exertion became very stressful since his blood sugar started to drop. The microwave in our room also died mid-use, and the hotel had no replacement, which is odd since being familiar with hotel hospitality, they usually have back up coffee maker, microwaves, clocks, etc. We were in the area to visit our kid in college not for VD. We got frozen dinners at pavilions to have meal in our room since restaurants were booked. We had to heat our dinners upstairs in the breakfast area. Breakfast the next morning was awful -- mushy powdered eggs (they melted in your mouth like hot mush), strange bacon, warm milk, and soggy potatoes. Management offered a $17 adjustment, which does not cover the $25 parking fee. This dismissive and insulting given the extent of the all the things that went wrong. The front desk staff Hayley and Josh were friendly and professional. Not worth the price. We won't return.

The construction is bothersome but I was never bothered by the sounds. Progress comes with inconveniences so it didn't bother me personally. Here's why I lowered the rating. The elevator is HORRIBLE. Something should be done in the massive renovation and it was completely unreliable. Especially, since there's only one carrying luggage down the stairwells is risky at best. The brand new lighting in the bathroom was a big fail! The lights are mounted behind the mirror and my wife could barely see because it's so dim. I have to agree even finding my contacts was difficult with these dim lighting. Fix those two things and you would have a five rating.

I wish now I would have read all the reviews for this hotel before committing and staying here…read more We felt like we should stay here since our daughter's wedding was on the rooftop here by wedgewood weddings. Wedgewood has nothing to do with the actual hotel and their policies. I will never stay here again. Their lack of care and concern for their guests is obvious. They run a factory here of people coming for weddings so they are making bank from all these guests and don't care in the least about pleasing the customers or any concerns the guests have. I tried reaching out and they put the blame on the other guest for the smoke stench and said we should've reached out so they could help. We did call the front desk to complain but no one answered the phone, Then we went to front desk to talk & the person working responded with an OK. Nothing they could do. We opted to stay here since it was so convenient with the wedding venue on the rooftop. We were not told about all the construction until after we signed the contract. That probably would have deterred us from signing. The day of the wedding as the wedding party was getting ready, they were jack hammering on the sixth floor. The sixth floor is where we were all staying because the rooftop venue is on the sixth floor and it made it convenient for family and friends to all be together close to the venue. The construction noise was so horrible not to mention the stench of smoke coming into the rooms from either the workers or other guests staying at the hotel. The elevator was slow as snails. We had elderly people in our group and some had to climb the stairs just to make it to the wedding because the elevator took over 20 minutes waiting for it. Ridiculous. If you had a room with an ocean view, you were lucky because you didn't feel claustrophobic, and the views were good. If you choose a basic room, there are no chairs, just the bed and the TV on a stand. There is no bar soap for your hands in the toilet area. They said we needed to use the liquid pump soap in the shower when we asked for hand soap. No lotion either. If you want ice for your ice bucket, you need to go to the front desk and they have to go get it for you. Good luck because there was always a line of people for the one employee working so you would have to wait. The lighting in all the rooms was horrible. Big fail there. Luckily, they had the parakeet café downstairs which had coffee and pastries, a few yogurt items, and smoothies. For a full breakfast, you would have to go to a restaurant in the village up the street, but the walk is a very steep hill in case you are with anybody that has a problem with that. There are no vending machines in this hotel if you wanted something else to drink other than water. They put two small bottled waters in the room that are five dollars each. No sodas at the cafe either. The seals start barking by around 4 am- not hotel fault but just be warned. No sleep if u have an oceanfront/view room. So the wedding venue is what saved us. The wedding was perfect. The hotel was a fail. And if you call or write to complain and express your concerns they will just give you an apology and dismiss you. They don't care.

My husband and I came to San Diego for a quick getaway and saw this hotel on Priceline. I googled…read morethis hotel and saw there was a better deal online so we booked it through their website. We checked in and the lady at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. However, our room was a lot smaller than I had expected. If cars are passing by, you'll hear it from the room, which made it hard for me to sleep. Also, there was a lady saying that her laptop was stolen and called the police. On the upside, it is pretty convenient to walk to downtown La Jolla and is very close to the ocean. Parking is also easy! Overall, I would probably pick somewhere quieter if we were returning to La Jolla, but other than that, not a bad price for what you're getting!

The amenities are sparse as it is literally a park and sleep spot with air conditioning. There is a pool and a Jacuzzi, but they are just a step above a Motel 6. My boyfriend and I went on an escape weekend and thought the rooms were clean and the air conditioning unit was amazing so we were very happy with that. The bed was comfortable and the linens were appropriate and above appropriate for the price at the area. One of the cool things is, we were the hotels guest of the day and receive free parking for our stay as as well as as one hour free bike rentals The Shoal is within walking and bicycling distance to many of the La Jolla Village attractions and we enjoyed using the bicycles to go to the Museum of Contemporary ArtSan Diego - which was excellent - plus lunch at La Correinte and local vibe drinks at The Shack in the way back. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay at a very reasonable price for the area and will consider this space again again, although we would've liked to go on the hot tub, but thought it was kind of gross.
