We came here for a family wedding and stayed three nights. I already know the traffic is horrible and parking even worse, as I grew up here but have since moved away. The construction is bothersome but I was never bothered by the sounds. Progress comes with inconveniences so it didn't bother me personally. Here's why I lowered the rating. The elevator is HORRIBLE. Something should be done in the massive renovation and it was completely unreliable. Especially, since there's only one carrying luggage down the stairwells is risky at best. The brand new lighting in the bathroom was a big fail! The lights are mounted behind the mirror and my wife could barely see because it's so dim. I have to agree even finding my contacts was difficult with these dim lighting. Fix those two things and you would have a five rating. read more

Okay. We came during construction which was our bad. Our suburban was too tall for the garage and we couldn't get our money back on the reservation. It is a zoo so street parking was out of the question. They allowed us to park (pay for parking) on a dirt lot they had on the street above, and as it turns out that was where you had to go to find a restaurant or bar or anything. Up a million stairs- I didn't want to do it several times each day on my vacation. Across the street, the beach was too crowded and rocky and it smelled like an Andy Gump. The guys at the front desk were super nice, rooms are clean and a great view, but I wouldn't stay here again or even recommend it. read more

I wish now I would have read all the reviews for this hotel before committing and staying here. We felt like we should stay here since our daughter's wedding was on the rooftop here by wedgewood weddings. Wedgewood has nothing to do with the actual hotel and their policies. I will never stay here again. Their lack of care and concern for their guests is obvious. They run a factory here of people coming for weddings so they are making bank from all these guests and don't care in the least about pleasing the customers or any concerns the guests have. I tried reaching out and they put the blame on the other guest for the smoke stench and said we should've reached out so they could help. We did call the front desk to complain but no one answered the phone, Then we went to front desk to talk & the person working responded with an OK. Nothing they could do. We opted to stay here since it was so convenient with the wedding venue on the rooftop. We were not told about all the construction until after we signed the contract. That probably would have deterred us from signing. The day of the wedding as the wedding party was getting ready, they were jack hammering on the sixth floor. The sixth floor is where we were all staying because the rooftop venue is on the sixth floor and it made it convenient for family and friends to all be together close to the venue. The construction noise was so horrible not to mention the stench of smoke coming into the rooms from either the workers or other guests staying at the hotel. The elevator was slow as snails. We had elderly people in our group and some had to climb the stairs just to make it to the wedding because the elevator took over 20 minutes waiting for it. Ridiculous. If you had a room with an ocean view, you were lucky because you didn't feel claustrophobic, and the views were good. If you choose a basic room, there are no chairs, just the bed and the TV on a stand. There is no bar soap for your hands in the toilet area. They said we needed to use the liquid pump soap in the shower when we asked for hand soap. No lotion either. If you want ice for your ice bucket, you need to go to the front desk and they have to go get it for you. Good luck because there was always a line of people for the one employee working so you would have to wait. The lighting in all the rooms was horrible. Big fail there. Luckily, they had the parakeet café downstairs which had coffee and pastries, a few yogurt items, and smoothies. For a full breakfast, you would have to go to a restaurant in the village up the street, but the walk is a very steep hill in case you are with anybody that has a problem with that. There are no vending machines in this hotel if you wanted something else to drink other than water. They put two small bottled waters in the room that are five dollars each. No sodas at the cafe either. The seals start barking by around 4 am- not hotel fault but just be warned. No sleep if u have an oceanfront/view room. So the wedding venue is what saved us. The wedding was perfect. The hotel was a fail. And if you call or write to complain and express your concerns they will just give you an apology and dismiss you. They don't care. read more

As a bride, I cannot recommend staying at La Jolla Cove Suites. The day before check-in, I had a gut feeling that something wasn't right, so I emailed Grace to confirm everything. I'm incredibly thankful I did because she responded admitting that she had booked our reservation for the wrong dates. I was shocked. We had booked our room block nearly a year in advance and had confirmed everything multiple times. Because of that mistake, my husband no longer had the suite we had reserved for him and his groomsmen to get ready in. Instead, they were placed in a much smaller room with construction directly outside. The getting-ready photos we had envisioned--and paid for a professional photographer to capture--were completely different because of an error that was not ours. What disappointed me most was the response. Rather than making every effort to fix the situation or offering a comparable solution, it felt like we were simply told, "This is what you get." As a bride, that was heartbreaking. On the morning of my wedding, I also had to spend time dealing with hotel issues instead of simply enjoying one of the most important days of my life. No bride should have to experience that. To make matters worse, after our stay my husband paid for one of our rooms, yet another charge for that same room was later processed, leaving us trying to resolve a duplicate charge after our wedding. After returning home, I found other reviews describing similar experiences involving room block mistakes and communication issues. Reading those reviews made me realize our experience may not have been an isolated incident, which was incredibly disappointing. I want to be clear that Wedgewood Weddings was absolutely incredible. Our wedding itself was beautiful, and their staff made our day special. If you're getting married in La Jolla, I highly recommend Wedgewood. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about La Jolla Cove Suites. If you're trusting a hotel with your wedding weekend, I would strongly encourage you to consider staying elsewhere. There's nothing good I can share about our stay at La Jolla Cove Suites. It starts with the place being under construction, total lack of parking for guests, and our two bedroom suite infested with fleas. It was an absolute waste of vacation time and money we'll never recover. The staff offered to let us out of our remaining stay after they offered to move us to a new suite. Imagine having our clothes, shoes, suitcases infested with fleas and moving them to another room in the hotel. Complete lack of understanding of the situation and total unawareness of how to handle a situation like this. I was really looking forward to this stay, but unfortunately it did not match the expectations set by the hotel's website and photos. We booked an oceanfront room, expecting to have a direct, relaxing view of the ocean. While the room technically faces the ocean, our first-floor room overlooked a busy park, public restrooms, and constant pedestrian traffic. The ocean was visible in the distance, but the primary view from our patio was not what was portrayed in the promotional photos. It was difficult to enjoy sitting outside because there was so much activity and noise. The location is excellent and within walking distance of La Jolla Cove, restaurants, and shops. However, for the price we paid, I expected the room to better reflect what was advertised and to provide the relaxing oceanfront experience we were hoping for. I would encourage the hotel to use photos that more accurately represent the different room locations and views so guests can make informed decisions when booking. read more

Located right across the street from the beautiful La Jolla cliffs, large park and sea lions. The stroll along the cliffs is magnificent with an amazing view of the Pacific. Convenient stroll to many restaurants, stores and museums. Where the host placed us must've been the older section. 2 bedroom, spacious area, in desperate need of paint and flooring; had a slight musty smell in the very aged, stained checkered carpet. Kitchen takes a person back in time, metal cabinets and counter top; vintage. All the kitchen amenities needed; pots, pans, coffee machine, complimentary coffee with small individual packets of powder creamer and sugar, dishes, microwave, small fridge, stove and toaster. Bedrooms were a good size, beds comfy, pillows "well-loved" but also comfy. Slept great with the crickety glass slider open to the sound of pounding waves. We felt safe enough to do so. Speaking of safe, wish the safety latch wasn't missing screws. No tv's in the bedrooms but the living room was suffice as we were outdoors often. The couch definitely needs to be replaced, lumpy and stained. Dining table was used, wish the chairs were reupholstered. No heating but a space heater which worked perfectly since it was chilly in the evening. There were thermostats in every room but no vents to be seen. The patio area was nice with a view of the ocean, cliffs and park. Overall a good experience, would love to return when this particular room is renovated. No complaints on the pricing. read more

We booked a stay at La Jolla Cove Hotel seeking a peaceful getaway, but unfortunately, it was anything but. We were woken up at 5:00 AM by loud construction noise from the site next door. When we brought this to the attention of the manager, Sergio, the experience went from bad to worse. Instead of being helpful or empathetic, Sergio was dismissive, stating he 'didn't hear anything' and claimed construction doesn't start until 7:00 AM--he's been here since 6AM - heard nothing --- essentially calling us liars while the noise was happening. For nearly $400 a night, the level of service was shocking. There was zero remorse and no effort to make things right--not even a simple gesture like a coffee to acknowledge the inconvenience. Beyond the service, the rooms are small and outdated. This was a massive disappointment, and we will be sure to warn our friends and family to stay elsewhere. Sergio, you have a lot to learn about basic customer service! UPDATE: I wanted to update my review following a rough start to our stay. While the 5 AM construction noise and initial communication were very frustrating, the manager, Sergio, stepped up toward the end to make things right. During a hectic checkout where the valet was overwhelmed with only one person working, Sergio recognized our frustration and comped our valet charges. I feel my stay deserved a 3.5* rating; I'll round up to a 4*. I attended a wedding. The reception took place on the roof of this facility. I booked a room here as a convenience. So, let me get these out of the way first: ** I was assigned a room on the fourth floor. During the wedding reception, I went to my room to change. During my time there, noise from the party emanated from the rooftop into the room. When the staff was cleaning up after the event, and the next morning when staff was setting up for the day, the reverberation of moving furniture also seeped into the room. This did not bother me; but I can see how this noise would not align with the expectations of others. ** In the shower, there were two valves: one for hot water; one for cold water. In the morning, I took a shower with both valves fully open. Somewhere, someone must have flushed a toilet. I was aware and noticed that the water was getting warmer rapidly. I got out of the way as a shot of very hot water came through. This happened three times during my shower. So, let's get on with the review ... Booking :: I booked my room via a travel aggregation website. The reception began before the official check in; the room was not ready. However, reception provided a text notification when the room became available. Check in was otherwise friendly and efficient. Parking :: If you have a vehicle, there is a daily parking fee. Location :: La Jolla Cove, Boomer Beach, Ellen Browning Scripps Park (to name a few designated spots) are right across the street. If you want proximity to the water, this is a good hotel. The hotel's location is also walkable to food and retail on Prospect Street. Hotel Room :: I will speak about the room I was assigned ... Based on the room size and floorplan, I think this portion of the hotel was designed and built in the 1960s/1970s. It is well maintained, but it is dated. Based on total square footage, the room is small; the bathroom is functional, but very small by modern standards. On the plus side: The carpet was clean. The bed was reasonably comfortable; the sheets were clean and in good condition. The towels were not plush, but they were clean. The furniture was clean. If your plan is to engage in activities and need the room as a place to simply sleep and clean up, the room I had was perfectly fine. If you are looking for a room in which to luxuriate, this room won't meet your expectations. I was chatting with my friend (father of the bride). He told me that the wedding entourage stayed in the "newer" wing of the hotel, and it was nicer; and that management was preparing to remodel the section I stayed in. But this is hearsay. Stay away for the next 5 years as they finish construction. While we were warned of construction we had no idea what they really ment. 7am the jack hammers started. Then the dump trucks arrived. Our room was actually shaking. This went on for most of the day. Finally around 3pm they were done for the day. What a relief. Then the wedding started. The classical music and service was nice but Now the roof is shaling as they jump up and down for their dance party! I can't believe the city allows them to have this music blaring like this. It's almost 70dbs in our room! I'd call down to complain, but my phone doesn't work. Just stay the heck away. So very disappointed. Buyer BEWARE!!!! The new building, called the Pines, where I paid thousands of dollars to stay, looks good in pictures, but is VERY DIRTY!!!! This is hands down the worst experience I've ever had. Not only do they keep you from knowing there will be a wedding that plays loud DJ music until 10 pm, but they also have no reason for why no disclaimer when you book a room that costs almost $700 a night. I had a half marathon to run on Saturday, and I only had 2 hours of sleep. With loud music, I partied until 10 pm, and then the clean-up began. Chairs and tables scraped the floors when it was all done. It was almost midnight. The worst part: the room was filthy and disgusting! It's so sad that this newly remodeled portion of the hotel is just as bad as the old and falling apart side (yet they still sell rooms on that side). We had no toilet paper or extra towels, and the place was so dirty that I had to clean it myself. Stay away from this place! You'll waste your money like I did and not get any sleep because they have weddings every night! It's like sleeping under a nightclub! And the worst part, they won't even warn you. To the owner of this hotel (or should I call it a motel?), shame on you for keeping some essential information from someone about to spend $2,000 on a two-night stay in your supposed nice hotel. You should tell people to stay at their own risk! Risk of not getting any sleep. And the least you can do is keep your rooms clean and ensure things like light switches are not falling off the wall. I rarely travel but we were attending a wedding, our room was on the 5th floor and the elevator had a broken sign or didn't show up on our floor. There was no full mirror , the bathroom lighting was dim and construction noise was a hot mess. The tv didn't worked our first day, I asked for an adjustment on our bill but the desk clerk said she wasn't able to assist, didn't take my name or contact info,... the room was cold and the electronic heating lights electric outlets were all managed by a touch screen . I had to wear a hoodie in the evening while . I feel we got the worse room in the entire hotel but other guests had the similar issues. My recommendation is full length mirrors , lighting in the bathroom , a different shower head ....this style is an entire other story. However the hotel is across from the beach , nice near by shops and places to dine. If you are good a roughing it this place is perfect. read more

One-Star Review: Deeply Disappointed - Bait and Switch & Terrible Treatment by La Jolla Cove Inn & Suites (Especially Grace) I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with La Jolla Cove Inn & Suites--specifically with Grace, who managed our room block--was so unacceptable that future brides and families deserve to be warned. Our daughter's wedding was on November 7, 2025, and we booked our room block nearly a year in advance. In an email dated August 12, 2024, Grace explicitly promised us the penthouse suite, complete with photos. We booked the rooms on December 7, 2024, confirmed our room block, and exchanged multiple emails reiterating that the penthouse would serve as the bridal suite for hair, makeup, and photos. Everything appeared completely set. When we checked in on November 6, we were shocked to learn that Grace had not assigned us the penthouse suite at all. Instead, we were placed in a small, unacceptable room--nothing like the suite she had repeatedly confirmed. She knew the bridal party was getting ready there, yet showed no concern for the disruption this caused. We ended up spending over two hours on the phone trying to fix the issue. Grace ultimately offered the bride a clearly inferior room, far from what was promised. She then assured us that she would move everything into the actual bridal suite during photos and the ceremony, since hair and makeup made it impossible for us to move rooms ourselves. We even paid extra for a bridal garment rack, which she knew we needed. What happened next was appalling. When they moved our belongings, they threw everything into trash bags--including the bride's veil, which had been hanging carefully on the garment rack. They tossed breast milk into the same trash bags as shoes. Items were wrinkled, damaged, and disrespected. Grace's handling of the situation was not only unprofessional but incredibly rude. To make matters worse, she attempted to charge us an extra full day, claiming we weren't out of the room by 2:00 PM--even though: 1. We told her repeatedly we couldn't move during hair and makeup. 2. She agreed her team would move everything for us. This was a bait-and-switch, plain and simple. She promised the penthouse suite, confirmed it repeatedly, then did not deliver--and treated us terribly in the process. She ruined what should have been a joyful, calm getting-ready experience for our bride. To be clear: We loved Wedgewood Weddings, the ceremony, and the reception. But because of how we were treated by La Jolla Cove Inn & Suites--and Grace in particular--we would never recommend hosting a wedding here or booking a room block for any special event. The incompetence, dishonesty, and disrespect were unacceptable. Brides deserve better. Families deserve better. And no one should have to fight this hard for a hotel simply to honor its own promises! Your hotel was in charge of the rooms selected for the room block. So either it was a mistake on your end or a deliberate bait & switch. 2) There was NEVER an agreement to be out by 2:00 pm. Great location in La Jolla, very outdated hotel in need of complete renovation. They do have a renovated side, but we paid $200/night for... crap. Super small, musty room, tiny bathroom (you can brush your teeth in the sink while sitting on the toilet), bathroom door wouldn't even close due to warping and horrible paint job, extremely slow elevator, closet so small clothes can't hang horizontally, shower temperature changes randomly, no mini fridge... definitely not worth the price. They did offer us an opportunity to upgrade to the renovated side for an extra $50, which probably would have been worth it. However, our room was way overpriced. 5th floor rooftop does have a great view. Basically, if you stay here, book the renovated side. Also, Parakeet cafe by the lobby is very cute and has good coffee! read more

Zero Stars TL;DR Don't stay here until the construction completes in 2028+ unlesss you don't intend to sleep bc of nightly event/parties until 1am combined with daily 6am staff having shouting matches outside your door and the loudest construction noise you ever heard starting 7am daily and continuing all day. From the front desk expect that there will only ever be 1 employee on duty, expect to wait a lot, expect them to be upset before you even begin speaking with them and expect to be spoken to with a bad attitude and a raised voice and little to no idea what hospitality means. Expect to pay a lot for all of these amazing privileges. Stayed 3 nights in room 607 early June 2026. Overall hotel experience was not good, it was expensive compared to what they were able to deliver and it will be under construction for the next 2+ years according to (non-management / honest) staff which was intentionally omitted from the website and reservation system at the time I booked so this was the initial / opening lie (wait there's more...), AC controls were possessed by the devil and would reset to 66 degrees F every 5 minutes night and day no matter what settings you tried and it was too cold to sleep without waking up with a cough even with heavy pjs on, it almost felt like a prank by the staff that went too far, the "automated" light switches were partially possessed as well and had their own ideas about how to light the space and when which often were at odds with this guest wishes, construction noise was mega loud & seemed intentional for unloading / dropping materials from 6 feet above the cement landing zone with a series of giant crashes shaking the building and large-format mortar drills that reverberated throughout the cement structure & started 7am daily and continued all day, extremely thin walls - could hear every conversation on the floor including hallways and adjoining room and staff starting 6am intentionally having loud conversations they knew the guests could hear early in the mornings after the nightly parties that ran to midnight and 1am, hotel advertised access to rooftop which is a lie - it was actually leased to an event company who had exclusive access to rooftop during events like weddings, receptions, etc with space for many party guests which occurred each and every night til 1am and were super loud parties, parking lot was non existent bc of construction, valet service was offsite with 20+ minute waits especially during event start and ends for ~250 people & absent/sleeping after hours even with event winding down, no self fill water or ice station - they forced the coffee shop staff to do this and guests to queue for a service that should be freely accessible by CA law bc it's a basic human need. Front desk was only ever 1 person for large sprawling property and always busy with a line and they were often disgruntled and spoke to guests (ourselves and others) in ways that were sometimes hostile and abusive. Late checkout - on check in the front desk worker said late checkout is available but must call on 9am day of checkout, called 5 times between 9-9:20am and it was ring no answer 50+ rings, asked in person at front desk (again 1 employee at the desk for very large property during busy morning checkout hours) and they had a bad attitude about it, saying it's not guaranteed twice while raising their voice when guests request this instead of simply saying it was not available today. Front desk staff lied about having a secure left luggage space, they do not. The 1 and only ice machine was inside a janitors closet Shower floor was solid marble and quite slippery, easy to fall there. The one and only elevator for the 6 floors of rooms was extremely slow and shared with service carts / always full, so the hotel became a sweaty 6th floor walk-up experience for us. The only bar or food service is in the event space and there is no guest access to it when it is open which is only during a paid event where hotel guests are turned away with a derogatory comment labeling hotel guests as wedding-crashers and sent away. This issue is intentionally caused by the hotel's marketing information showing nice photos of a rooftop deck while telling the lie that it is a useable hotel amenity - when in fact it is not, this is an intentional lie told to every guest which is not discovered until the guests are turned away with an extra side of insults by the event staff. This situation was intentionally created by the hotel and is so far away from what a hospitality organization should be that it is completely unacceptable and the people running this establishment should be ashamed of themselves if they were even capable of same. Do not advertise a service or amenity which you do not offer and are not capable of delivering because you have already exclusively subcontracted it to another entity for profit. The location near La Jolla Cove is the only reason this place gets any stars from me. Everything else about the stay was pretty disappointing. First, the fridge in our room didn't work, which is a basic amenity you expect to function. We were also given a connected room that we never requested, and unfortunately the noise carried straight through. We could hear a crying baby clearly, and overall the walls in this hotel are very thin so you hear pretty much everything around you. What made it worse was that there was a wedding happening above our floor and we were never warned about it. The music and activity were loud and lasted a while, which really ruined the peaceful vacation we were hoping for. There was also construction going on, which added even more noise during the stay. The pool area was also disappointing and honestly felt misleading compared to the photos online. It did not look nearly as nice in person. When we brought up concerns, the front desk wasn't very accommodating, which was frustrating considering how expensive the stay was. Overall, this place is overpriced for what it offers. The location is great, but the hotel itself desperately needs upgrades and better management of guest expectations. I have to agree with other reviewers. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We purchase two nights because we were there for a wedding. The wedding was beautiful, on the rooftop. But let me tell you about the room. We paid over five hundred dollars a night . The room was old , rusty. My brother in law also stayed there and they had a room that wasn't "refurbished". I hate to see what it looked like! The shower rained cold water, then hot, then cold, then hot and you didn't even have to touch the faucet. No hair dryer, no hangers, an iron but no ironing board. The furniture was cheap and big chips on it. I checked on the hotel price and it was $298.00 a night for the exact nights we stayed. But we had the Wedding Group rate! Stayed at La Jolla Cover for my son's wedding. Valet put our luggage on a cart and took it to the front desk. I tipped the valet. Once we checked in I asked to have the luggage cart taken up to our 5th floor room. They said there was no one to do that...take the cart up and bring it back down when you're done. No body wash in the shower or bar soap for the sink. Called the front desk. They said housekeeping would take care of it. They clean our room...still no body wash. I had to take it off their cart. App to get the car via valet did not work. As we checked out Front desk said no problem we'll contact them for you. Paid $290 for one night in a king room plus $27 for parking, and it was a huge letdown. Floor was visibly dirty, found a small cockroach in the bathroom, and noise was constant -- guests running and yelling past midnight, a late-night fire alarm that took forever to turn off, and loud maintenance by 6 AM. Barely slept, and the front desk didn't seem to care when I checked out. Great location, but not worth the money or the hassle. Really disappointed as we drove all the way from Vegas to enjoy a romantic getaway. read more

We were happy with the view of the ocean from the room, but the beds were uncomfortable and noisy. The shower was absolutely awful, the water pressure was low and the shower temperature would get super hot then super cold. The balcony door was hard to open. If ur looking for a budget friendly stay, then ig it's ok. But just go spend extra money at Marriott or Hilton. This place is not worth the stay. Very disappointing. We came to La Jolla for a wedding, which was taking place on the roof of the hotel. The rooms were pricy so we ended up going for the Terrace Oceanview Queen Studio. I knew the room wouldn't be one of the fancy newly renovated rooms, but I had no idea how bad it would be. Additionally, there was no warning online that we were booking a room in an entirely different building that was situated up on a hill that was accessible by a massive staircase that was, frankly, dangerous. The stairs were very skinny and slick, especially since everything is damp so close to the beach. I fell hard once and then became extremely nervous to take the stairs again. Their marketing team deserves a raise because the website makes the hotel look very glamorous but the whole place is kind of gross. Our room looked like it hadn't been touched in decades. The smoke detectors were hanging from the ceiling, unplugged. The door didn't close unless you slammed it. The TV didn't work and the WiFi was mediocre at best. It had a kitchen but it was so raggedy we would have been scared to used to stove/oven. The bathroom was dingy. The bed was so worn out it had an indent and made our backs hurt. I called before we came to see if there was a couch in suite and the hotel said there would be - there wasn't. The elevator in the main hotel was sketchy to the point most of our group just took the stairs. The recently renovated rooms in the main hotel were nice, but the exterior and hallways were pretty dingy. The rooftop wedding venue was actually really nice. The staff were lovely, the wedding was beautiful, the food was great. It's a shame that the rest of the hotel kind of sucked. The location is spectacular. Just a fair warning that the sea lions are LOUD all night, and they do smell. Some people in our group had a hard time sleeping with the noise. read more

This was hands down one of the worst hotel stays I've had in over 25 years. While the room was clean, it was completely underwhelming and looked nothing like the pictures. When I asked about the noise and the quality, I was told I could pay $80 to upgrade to a better-looking, quieter room. Unfortunately, there was a wedding on the rooftop that night, and I could hear every footstep, chair scrape, and bump through the ceiling. It went on until 12:30 AM, and I had to be up at 4:45 AM for a flight. Needless to say, I barely slept. When I checked out, the front desk told me I should've booked a better room as if it was my fault. I had booked through Expedia, which didn't show individual room photos, so I didn't realize what I was getting. And just to add some humor to the mess: the room came with an ice bucket and cups... but there wasn't an ice machine anywhere I could find. This experience happened on 6/23/25. I was in town dropping my daughter off at UCSD for a summer internship and was hoping for a restful stay. That didn't happen. Would not recommend. read more

Absolutely horrible. I booked a 2 room suite. When we walked in cabinets were broken, mold in the bathrooms, the entire place smelled like mildew. The general manager Cody is Absolutely a horrible manager. He will gas light you and say it doesn't smell and your lucky to have 1 ac unit for the entire 2 bedroom suite. How do they expect it not to be filled with mildew if there's no proper ventilation! They changed our room and gave us blankets and told us to sleep on the floor! Beware!!! read more

Clearly there are a lot of negative reviews, but I actually enjoyed my stay here. My husband and I got married on the rooftop of this hotel (venue is La Jolla Cove Rooftop by Wedgewood Weddings). The wedding venue and hotel are run separately under their own management. We were essentially "forced" to book 2 nights with the hotel since the venue does not have a bridal/groom suite. And we were pleasantly surprised to say that we're glad we did! We stayed in the Shores VIP Corner Penthouse Suite. This was a newly remodeled room. It was quite clean, modern, and spacious. There seemed to be good sound proofing in our room. Our first night there was some noise/music from a wedding, but it was a reasonable level and ended at 10 PM. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The balcony view was nice. There can be a fishy smell when outside since you are so close to the sea lions. You can also hear the sea lions at times but the noise was pretty faint. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Flat yet lumpy in odd places. Don't think I've ever had this issue at a hotel before. This was the only aspect of our stay that affected my sleep quality. There are definitely far better hotels in the surrounding area, but for the purposes of our wedding, we were happy with the services here. I would double check when booking to see if you are in a remodeled room because it seems the older rooms provide a very different experience. read more

We decided to try out this hotel despite the negative reviews because of the renovations, but it was a mistake. This 1 star is for the terrible customer service. My three kids and I were sitting next to the sliding door when it suddenly shattered by itself. Our first thought was to make sure everyone was safe, and we reported it to the front desk right away. It happened in the morning of our check-out date so we decided just to pack up and leave. We didn't complain that it shortened our stay or that it was hazardous to us and our kids, even though I actually found a piece of glass in my hair. When we checked out, we made it clear that the glass shattered on its own, and the front desk told us we wouldn't be charged for the incident. However, later that day, Cody (the general manager), called us and said they would be charging us $2500 for the damage. They claimed that since the interior pane broke and we were in the room, they had to charge us for it. We tried to reason with him, noting that we kept the room in good condition, there was no evidence of misbehavior, and that we reported it right away. This didn't matter to him. I would suggest to everyone to avoid this hotel. I truly had a terrible experience. read more

I took a risk on booking this hotel I regret it. I am not one to complain however I was so upset with my overall experience. All I wanted to book a nice getaway for myself and my husband. The room itself was nice, the staff was kind I GUESS??? the exterior sketchy, the guests classless. There were girls screaming, cheering and yelling throughout the night from 9:30-11:30pm. I texted the number designated to chat with the staff for any needs which was nice however when I asked to change rooms they were not able to because the were fully booked and they offered to have security step in and remind the staff, perfect. UNTIL I was woken up by a man yelling and screaming and cursing at 1:50-3:00 am I texted the staff again and they let me know they would try to handle the situation. handled......kinda??? because the guy just ended up waking me up again at 6 am it's like the walls were made of freaking PAPER. I was so upset about paying for, what I thought, was a classy hotel....i've been to hotels in the hood off the freeways that had better walls and policies to accommodate their guests. I notified the staff they just said sorry. When we checked out at 7am-ish because we were so fed up with our experience, I ended up asking for the managers info because I was just so disappointed! They couldn't provide it to me but told me to call at around 10am, and that's exactly what I did. The manager was kind, someone gotta give him a raise because I'm sure he probably deals with upset customers all the time based off the reviews I've seen and my experience. I called to notify him regarding the noise and he was able to comp my parking fee, better than nothing. This hotel was advertised as $360ish a night, but ended up charging me a total of $770........make that make sense!!!! I called the hotel back because WHO WOULDN'T AFTER BEING CHARGED THAT MUCH. The manager understood my frustration and gave me the run down on how they basically had an authorization hold on my card, I've been at so many hotels and had never had a scenario where they would CHARGE me an authorization hold and then charge me again for the final cost. I've only ever been charged once and then get a deposit refunded. This establishment was truly a disappointment. Would not go back even if it was free. Attended an evening Wedding at this hotel that should have been a great experience. Unfortunately, the hotel staff are not equal to the beautiful La Jolla location and the hotel amenities. Several days prior to the event, to ensure that Valet parking was available for wedding guests, as my wife is partially disabled, we called the hotel and were assured by the front desk staff that valet parking would not be an issue. Upon arrival at the hotel, the valet attendant said that hotel management would allow valet service only for guests checking in for a stay. I had to leave my wife in the front of the hotel while I looked for long term parking. If you have any type of mobility issues, this hotel is more concerned with the ongoing expansion construction than providing the care and concern for visitors. Also, they only had ONE elevator available to access guest rooms, and the special event area. If you have been to La Jolla on a Sunday, you realize how difficult it is to find parking, including Disability spaces. read more

This place was probably nice 50 years ago, but it's a tear-down now. Nasty, stained carpet. Hot/cold water faucets backwards on the tub/shower, and valves operate in the wrong direction too. They advertised our $400+/night room as a "studio," but it sure looks like just a room with a deck. Loud wedding on the roof above us til 10 PM. Should have been disclosed, prior to leasing the room for the night. Recommend stay away! read more

If your only goal is to be near La Jolla cove, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a modern, easy to navigate, quiet place.... this is NOT the place. We needed a two bedroom suite for a weekend and I found this place. It looked nice on-line and being in trendy La Jolla how bad could it be? The answer is pretty bad. The exterior is in desperate need of an update and access to the parking lot (which parking is $27 a night) is cramped. Getting from registration to our room required going up two separate flights of stairs and then an additional staircase to finally arrive at the room. There is an elevator but it was so slow we carried our luggage up the stairs instead. When we finally found our room and opened the door, we were greeted by a musty smell and old worn carpet squares. There is a built in desk (missing a chair), a round table in a 'bump' out area (again no chairs) and a small worn out couch. The kitchenette (which I was unaware existed) was from the 1950's and the fridge did not work (and was not clean). For fun we turned on the electric stove top, it did not work. There was a small dorm room fridge plugged in sitting on the floor next to the table (which had 4 chairs) in the kitchenette area. The lamp above this table was so dirty/dusty that we avoided it. There was also a small bistro style built in with 2 chairs that was the most functional item in the area. It looks like it was furnished from local garage sales. There are no overhead lights anywhere in the suite (with the exception of the dining area), there were multiple lamps available. There were two separate bedrooms. The good news in the beds were comfortable and clean in both rooms. Here is a list of the bad news: 1. One bathroom appears to have been updated in the past 5-10 years. The other bathroom has not been updated in at least twice that long. In one bathroom there was no hand soap and the fan did not work. The floor in the old bathroom was tile and needed a good scrubbing. 2. Each room had a thermostat control on the wall which did not work. Instead there was a portable AC unit and a portable heater in each room. When we returned to the room after a day out, you are immediately hit by the musty smell. The windows behind the couch had condensation on them. To help alleviate this I opened the door to the deck (the sliding lock did not work) and it did help. The problem was each night (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) there was a rooftop party with DJ's. The music was loud and vibrated throughout the complex. Thankfully they all ended by 10pm but it did not make for relaxing evenings. I am not writing this review for any reason except to let potential future customers know my experience. Don't miss out! LaJolla Cove is remodeling and the new ocean view rooms are a steal!! Beds were comfy, rooms are super spacious, front staff was very friendly and helpful, just know that during the dust there are a few nuances (like I got ice from the front desk instead of on floor) The roof has fabulous views! Weather wasn't favorable during our stay but the outdoor activities and fire pits looked nice. Parking is $27 and til 4 on day of checkout. 0.5 STARS -- AND THAT'S BECAUSE I CAN'T GIVE ZERO. This so-called "hotel" was less a place of lodging and more a social experiment in human suffering. The popcorn ceilings? Child's play compared to the flagrant war crimes committed by the décor. The walls were painted in a shade of millennial gray so soul-sucking, I could practically hear my will to live packing its bags. The scent in the room was a haunting cocktail of lunch meat, mildew, and pure despair -- it transported me right back to my darkest days at a Subway sandwich shop. Within moments of sitting in one of the three mismatched chairs, I discovered the upholstery was less "fabric" and more "fungal ecosystem." The particular chair I chose had a large hole in the middle, and when I sat down, I sank so far in I feared I'd be found by archaeologists centuries from now. Then there was the bed. Oh, the bed. Springs jutted out like little metallic daggers, ensuring each attempt at rest doubled as acupuncture performed by Satan himself. And the wildlife? Don't get me started. The seagulls here are apparently locals -- one swooped in through our open door, stole half our food, and looked me dead in the eyes as if to say, "You shouldn't have booked this place." But the final boss of this nightmare? The wedding. A full-volume, wall-shaking rager that pounded away until 11:30 p.m. every night. The bass was so aggressive I could feel it rearranging my internal organs. It was so unbearable we packed up and left a whole day early, which was, frankly, the only good decision I made that weekend. This hotel was dirty, dismal, and one seagull away from being a literal Hitchcock remake. If hell had a timeshare program, this would be the model unit.
