Terrible customer service by their associate Dallas. I understand they had to close early due to weather but have the basic courtesy to walk up to the door and talk to a customer. I stood there for a few minutes, pointing at her and trying to talk to her to tell her that would it be possible for me to just purchase something off the freezer? I recognize the importance of closing early due to bad weather, but equally as important is good customer service. Even if you're going to turn a customer down there's a right way and the right body language versus showing your frustration and huffing and puffing in front of a Customer. I'm a big fan of Oberweis, though I try not to go too often as I have serious issues with the politics of the owner, who runs periodically for congress. The ice cream is alarmingly rich and very good. In addition to ice cream, sundaes, malts, etc. they also sell milk, cheese, ice cream cakes, yogurt, and so forth, in addition to refrigerated bags and little stuffed cows. They've just added coffee. I got the cookie dough, which is in a very rich, creamy base - it's not particularly melty but the texture isn't of the kind you can bite it. The cookie dough pieces were kind of a disappointment; they were OK but not up to the quality of the ice cream. (They buy them in bulk, I'm sure, from the same suppliers as most other scoop shops.) They were giving out iced tea samples, which the clerk said were "somewhere between sweet tea and unsweetened"; I've had sweet tea and this was sweet tea. Unless you like it really sweet, don't try it. The milk comes in returnable glass bottles (with deposit) and they have a receptacle for recycling plastic (the top of their ice cream cups are "1"s) and glass. This location is in a strip mall along Butterfield. Like most of the stores I've been in, the location is very roomy, with lots of windows. Outdoor seating is available. While you eat your ice cream, there are games available, including chess, Uno and Jenga. read more

I only really come to Oberweis for the ice cream; of the three big chains in this area, this one is the best. Nothing on the fruit punch, iced tea, or milk yet. Jim Oberweis may not know how to win a single election as a Republican in a Republican district, but his family knows how to make ice cream. 4 stars. Why do those darned glass bottles have to be so heavy?? Geesh... Well, I figure if I'm gonna eat 'bad', then at least the ingredients need to be 'good'! They don't get any better than Oberweis. Here are a few of my favorite items from this dairy store: First, the ICE CREAM... delicious. Very, very rich. A little goes a long way, so aim for the kiddie or small size. (Make sure you have toliet paper at home! Seriously, you will need it.) I absolutely adore the birthday cake, black walnut, and plain 'ol vanilla. If you are looking for a meal or have someone to share with, opt for the triple layer chocolate cake or the apple crisp. You can't go wrong with either one. And, that's saying a lot cuz I really don't like chocolate or apples, but I LOVE THESE TWO ITEMS! Just be warned, the apple crisp is a seasonal item, so get it when u can. Next, the beverages... you can't go wrong with the lemonade or the sweet tea. We ordered online for curbside pick up at 9:50pm which was set for 10:25pm and we get there to pick up the two milkshakes we ordered, no one comes out. We call at 10:30pm and inquire about the order and let them know we're outside, we hear an employee in the background say, "oh sh*t, we didn't even make that one yet". You close at 11pm. There's no reason why we should have to come wait an additional 15 mins just because you all were slacking the last hour of your shift. I'm very surprised because OBERWEIS is normally on point! It just defeats the purpose of ordering ahead and to top things off, you have employees that clearly don't know how to be professional. Do better nightshift. Great dairy/ice cream place. They have coolers and freezers. They have fresh yogurt and eggs but we went there for the ice cream. I got a banana split. A classic sundae perfectly done. Worst service ever. I was near Naperville for a conference and had a sweet tooth craving for ice cream. After tracking down the closest shop on Yelp, I ended up here (despite my political disagreement with the owner). There was a decent crowd for a Monday night and after waiting a fair amount of time after 2-3 other patrons, I ordered what I thought was something simple - two scoops of ice cream to go. I stood to the side after my order and then proceeded to watch patron after patron that ordered AFTER me, receive their shakes, smoothies, cones, etc. The high schoolers working there certainly seemed in no hurry to make anyone's order, and certainly not mine. Finally, after the person who ordered 4 people after me received their shake, I asked the manager what happened to my order. I was given an apology and my ice cream and I left. Gotta say, not the best I've ever had either. I've been to another Oberweis in Schaumburg before and it was much better. This stuff kind of tasted like feet. I received a gift card to Oberweis which is what brought us in to try it out. I went with one scoop of chocolate peanut butter ice cream... very tasty ice cream! After we ordered our ice cream, we were also offered a sample of their chocolate milk which was smooth and delicious. We were surprised to find that most of the tables were filled! For a cold Saturday evening, this was a little surprising. With a few bucks remaining on the gift card, we'll be sure to stop in again for some more creamy deliciousness. read more

It's very hard to mess up ice cream. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience at this place. First of all, I was cut off in the parking lot by a typical Wheaton Park District Dad: only concerned about getting inside and celebrating with the squad. I know that is has nothing to do with the business, but anyways. I ordered a three scoop sundae, and I ordered Cake batter, Blueberry Pie, and Mint Chip. The Cake was 4 star. Very creamy and tasty... a good amount of cake in the IC too. The Blueberry Pie IC was a seasonal special, and it was dreadful. I actually am getting upset thinking about how much of a waste it was. Finally, the Mint chip was subpar. It made me pine for orange sherbet (awful IMO). Anyways, I'd much rather give Tates in Downtown Wheaton a try than this place. read more

My kids and I love coming here for a summer treat, and to play a little chess. The ice cream is most definitely 5-star tasting, but the prices force me to drop to 4-stars. Oberweis is a local business, owned by a local billionaire :) Regardless, the people working in the shops are always nice as can be. The ice cream is simply amazing, and the stores are always clean and inviting. My kids are both in the Chess Club at their school, and the stores all have a few tables with chess boards built into them. It's fun to munch on your cone and have a 9-year-old school you on chess opening moves, and have him subsequently beat you in 10 minutes. read more

I got the brownie twirl ice cream on a sugar cone, and even though I did think twice about getting the two-scoops I was pleasantly surprised at just how much ice cream they layered on in a single scoop. Anything more and it would have been a bit much for a post-meal treat. The ice cream itself was excellent and really hit the spot. They also had several freezers filled with cakes, ice cream to-go, and all kinds of bottle drinks (chocolate milk, soda, etc...). It was good, but lacking on the cookie dough. That didn't take too much away though, because the vanilla was FANTASTIC! We also joined the card club. Each dollar = one point. One hundred = $5.00 towards whatever you would want. It cost a dollar to join, kind of lame, but we will be back, so (hopefully) worth it! If you sign-up for their email you get 25 points though. I really am debating between two and three stars. It is a typical Oberweis, slightly cleaner than most, standard white and red color scheme, refrigerated goods secrion, games, broken crayons and color sheets, etc. Something just seems very bland and it is the service. The service is very bland. They are not rude but not exactly friendly either. If I could sum up their service attitude in one word it would be, "whatever." Which really leaves me torn. I am the same distance from the Roosevelt Rd Wheaton location so based on service alone, I would go there BUT, that place is DIRTAY! I am also SUPER BUMMED they discontinued the chocolate marshmallow flavored ice cream. That was the only flavor I ever got.
