3 stars equals meh...very average. Came back after a great experience. Looking forward to a great second time, I walked in and I was the only one there. The staff looked at me like I was going to hold up the place. Not very welcoming this time. Had to ask if they were still open. The staff all looked at each other like who was going to deal with me. no better feeling To be fair the sign says open till 9 but the feeling is otherwise. The place is very clean. The menu says chips and salsa after 11am. So far I haven't been offered any. I feel like I'm an inconvenience here. The chips came out with the food and were sparse and disappointing. Red salsa was good though. My server mumbled " anything else?" I let her off the hook and just said no. She disappeared with the rest of the staff to the back. The enchiladas seem tough and the plate needs a lot of salt. Sadly so far this is not the experience I had last time. The service has not been great, everyone is doing side work. The tortillas seem home or at least locally made which is nice. Green salsa very sadly lacks flavor but brings the heat. I did finally get checked on and she was very nice. Turned off the open sign at 8:30ish, chairs being put up on the tables and the television was turned off I gotta admit I'm definitely feeling kinda rushed. To be fair maybe I just came at the wrong time. Going to write this up as such and give them another chance in the future. Final note I was checked on at the end of my meal by a nice server. This is our go-to place for tacos. They never disappoint us with the good tortillas, salsa, CG, bean and cheese, chorizo and _____, enchiladas, sweet tea, etc. And they have some of the best service around so go and try them out today. Just don't park in any spaces marked for the other businesses. To OC: You've got a great little restaurant. I wish I could help you find a better location without these crappy neighbors. Food has always been very good. Service, unfriendly, at least by the tall waitress. So unfriendly that I have ceased going. Takeout is best for me. Almost always has policemen at one or two of their tables. Getting fresh whole beans is a mystery. Beans are put on to cook in the am. By 2:30 pm, they are gone. Go figure! Wifey and I were out on n the streets early on a Saturday morning. We decided to have breakfast. Since we were in the area we decided to stop. I'd been here during the week for breakfast and lunch. They were busy, but not crazy. First thing I noticed was the amount of regulars that came and went. Everyone knew everyone. They greeted each other. The waitstaff knew the customers by name and customers knew the waitstaff. Customers would share the news paper with other patrons. A genuine neighborhood restaurant. I felt like I was on an episode of Cheers. In this case ¡Salud! since it's a Mexican restaurant. The breakfast tacos were amazing. Fresh home made flour tortillas. Tasty carne guisada, well served barbacoa taco and decent coffee. Definitely coming back. TIP: They have a small bakery counter with pink cake, conchas, maranitos, etc. as well as reasonable priced Mexican candy ($1.50-$2.00). read more

This is truely a hidden gem if you are looking for good TEX-MEX on the Northside. Prices are very cheap and the atmosphere reminds you of a family members house. Even if you're not from the neighborhood they'll make you feel at home aince the staff is great. Again this place is Tex-Mex and NOT AUTHENTIC but it's what San Antonio specializes in so I don't care. The tortillas are definitely the best I've had attleast in San Antonio. Thick, fluffy, very soft and definitely homemade. The coffee they serve is also very good as well as the enchiladas. read more

Have never been a fan of this place, but my mom had to come here because they used to have really good meatloaf. She ordered a gordita. Two corn tortillas turned into a sandwich. Nope not a gordita. The flauta was small and didn't really have a taste. The salsa was ok, but not spicey at all. Don't like the cheese they use on their enchiladas. But they do have tasty, but dry taco meat. Service was good. It's a shame because I live near here and wouldn't mind coming more often. So if I come back it will be for beef tacos. read more

Great side dishes, lackluster entree. I came here in search of good Chilequiles. The spacious restaurant is decorated with wonderful paintings. Someone close to the restaurant is a talented artist, and has done some impressive works of art, which are prominently hung in the dining area. They offer a wide variety of pan dulce and other Mexican bakery sweets, which all look delicious and fresh. The sides to my chilequile plate were incredible. The best refried beans I've had in a while. The potatoes were delicious and slightly crunchy. Yum. The chilequile plate was lacking. It looked like it had sat under the heat lamp for a while. The cheese on top wasn't melted. It wasn't that great. The salsa was also lacking. The green looked less than fresh, and wasn't very hot or flavorful. It had the consistency of a salsa that had been sitting out for a while. The red sauce was ketchup. The place wasn't very clean. The ceiling tiles are filthy, they seem to have had a good number of roof leaks. The floor was sticky, and the table top wasn't clean either. The waitstaff was pleasant. They didn't know much English, but I suppose that adds to the authenticity. The price was fair. read more

The food was authentic , i am a south side San Antonian at 52 years. . i know good Rice and great tortillas. Several varieties of salsa and good menu with fast service and more than fair prices. i have had coffee and pandulce there, and i have now had Enchiladas with onions and all that goes with it. i have never left hungry. parking needed some help but from what the owner told me they are working on it. which is the right answer. well worth the trip from Stone oak. this is how far i must travel for Good Texmex without hitting the south side. read more

We live in Houston I was here in San Antonio on a work trip. Thankful I found this place. It was packed & after eating here I know why. Food was so good!!! Reminded me of my mommas food. Our waitress I think Cindy was so kind to share her French vanilla with me. As I hate to have coffee without it. I have a big family and for all my kids to eat all their food is a plus! Okay, it seems that I primarily feel compelled to write reviews to warn fellow patrons off, or when something really grabs my attention. This place is the later. I go to school right down the street at Oblate School of Theology. I have been here for a year and never discovered this place, and it is less than a mile away. Mercy! I stopped in today for lunch to go. I asked the hostess for her recommendation and she told me to get the carne asada enchiladas. So that's what I ordered. Under $10 for the lunch plate. Now, I live in south Texas. We have Mexican food and Tex-Mex everywhere. And most of it is solid food. There are a couple places that leave a mark on my memory. This is one of them. All of the tortillas (flour and corn) and made fresh onsite. The hostess told me that everything is homemade. The enchiladas were filled with CHEESE and on the side were delicious and flavorful chunks of carne asada in a gravy. It was served with the traditional refried beans and rice. WOW! The sauce was tasty. It came with two (I wanted corn) tortillas on the side. I don't usually eat them but I used them to sop up every ounce of the sauce from the enchiladas and the carne asada. The green hot sauce was flavorful and perfect over the top of everything. Okay, this was certainly not the healthiest Mexican food. It seemed more like Mexican comfort food. I am a happy camper. After staying next to Mi Tierra and Market Square for over two years, it's been tough moving on in search of a convenient, decent Mexican restaurant with great breakfast (Sunday barbacoa and Big Red), coffee and pastries. After passing by one morning I see this little café off McCullough and Oblate completely packed. I decide to stop by, hoping I was early enough on a Sunday. Lucky for me, we had perfect timing. I think we were asked three times by three different waitresses what would we like to drink? What would we like to eat? Were you ready to order? How was the coffee? Can I take your menu? GIVE ME A BREAK ALREADY! You have great service! I get it. Let me glow in my newly found breakfast and maybe late lunch place! It was one of those things where you welcomed the attention, but you wanted to be that cool person in the back hiding behind the menu for a few minutes while you scoped everything out while secretly passing judgment. Ordered my usual two bacon and egg and one chicken fajita with onions and bell peppers, that usually fixes me up. Great cafe! The food is flavorful, I thought it was pretty great that they offer breakfast all day without an up-charge as most restaurants will. The service was amazing everything came out timely and the woman working at the time was such a gem! Always kept my tea filled, came back and asked to make sure everything was going well and that I was satisfied. The pork chop was also great ((when it finally came out)) nicely seasoned and juicy, not dry at all. Drove past this place on my morning motorcycle ride and saw that they had a to-go station set up outside. Stopped and got a couple of breakfast tacos and they were the best I've had in a while. This is my second time eating at this location. The first time I was with my family before COVID. My dad loves their breakfast and took us there. Food was amazing and waitress were very friendly. Today I went and order to go as their dining area is closed because of COVID. They have a little setup in the front of the restaurant to place your order. I asked what the special was for the day which was calabacita con pollo. I ordered that and boy did it exceed my expectations!!! This place is a gem. Stumbled upon it during college visits and move ins with my daughter. It was close to our hotel and always packed with locals so we figured that was a very good sign. Kind of a hole in the wall place and appears to be family owned. We only went for breakfast and can only speak for that. Needless to say we went back for a total of 4 times during the course of two trips to San Antonio. Every breakfast taco or entree we had were excellent. Some of the best beans I've had. Make sure they are on any breakfast taco you get. Great tortillas. A little thick, but made fresh in house and packed with flavor. They are excellent.
