    Egg and potato taco
    Hoa L.

Came for breakfast and to enjoy some quality time with a friend on Saturday morning. It wasn't very busy and the food came out quickly. I had a simple egg and potato taco and they have green and red salsa. Both were delicious! They came by several times to see if we needed anything else despite our small order and long stay. Payment taken at the table with a machine. Tacos were about $3-4 each. Inside felt comfortable and casual.

So good!! We had a late lunch/ early dinner and it was delicious. Loved the salsa verde and red tortillas. Carmelita's will be on our list when we come back to visit San Antonio.

I've had the chance to try Carmelita's twice & have been satisfied both times. I'll start out with the service: it was great both times. Everyone is very attentive & kind. The ambiance is like walking into your Abuela's kitchen - this is a compliment. It feels very comforting & has a home type of vibe. I had tacos both time I visited so I'm judging based on a bean & cheese taco & a potato & egg taco. Both were great! The tortillas were fresh with an authentic feel, just like the restaurant. I'll continue to patronize this establishment & try to venture out to other dishes. Tip: if you use your card it must be over $5.

Subject: Authentic Mexican Flavors- Reminded Me of Home On Saturday, March 16, 2023, around 9 AM, we stopped by Carmelita's Mexican Restaurant on our way home to Houston. When you first drive up to it, it looks like a meat market from the outside. However, when you go inside, the energy and decor feel like you're in a small restaurant in Mexico. The vibe is "Alegre," aka happy, welcoming, and kind. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I asked for a sample of the menudo, and they brought me a generous amount. The menudo was delicious, and the broth was perfect. The tortillas were hand-made, and what was unique about the food is that the flour and the corn tortillas look almost the same. They were super delicious--I ate all of the corn tortillas by dipping them into my menudo broth. I also ordered a taco de barbacoa on a flour tortilla that was packed with meat, and the tortilla was so fluffy. The food is definitely authentic. The salsa "verde" was my favorite--I definitely recommend it, but only if you're brave enough for the real hot chile. We spent $60.00 for a taco de barbacoa, large menudo, 2 dozen tortillas to go, a Mexican plate of Huevos a La Mexicana, two coffees, and a $10.00 tip. I recommend this place. I'm pretty sure the rest of the menu is as delicious. You know you've hit the jackpot with authentic Mexican food when the salsa is catered to Mexican taste--crazy hot.

Very bland Menudo, I was hoping for a lot more but everything was pretty bland and I wouldn't recommend this to anybody else I sent this whole flavorless meal back and headed somewhere else

Chorizo & Egg Taco with Green Salsa

Great breakfast tacos on Broadway St. in downtown San Antonio. Carmelita's has very good chorizo & egg tacos. The tortillas are perfectly cooked on the flat grill, combined with the green salsa over the chorizo made me a huge fan today. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant has open seating if your dining inside. The food, vibe, music and great breakfast experience will definitely bring me back to try a lunch special.

Excellent breakfast burritos. I especially liked the bacon & egg and the potato & egg ones. The tortillas are so soft and delicious. The horchata is really amazing as well.

Great little breakfast shop, large meals for less than 10$, good food and service. Authentic and great people. The sweet tea is good, the beans and salad is the best. I will be back the food is good And service is great. The people are friendly and prices are so low for such large portions. Don't forget to try their salsa so good.i will be back when I am in the areas.

Umm Chicken soup tasted like it had already had Lemmon to it, cloudy and room temperature ummm hmmm

Ummm sometimes you just don't say anything and that's best. The people do drop in though but I don't get the apathy or attention let me know if you see it differently or your experience was very different.

    Country & Egg Taco

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't have my first real taco until my late teens and that was also in Texas (Houston, to be specific). And now that I've also had my first breakfast taco in Texas, I'm totally hooked--but sadly, I couldn't get the infamous San Antonio puffy tacos on this trip. I was lucky to stay near Carmelitas and walked over here for breakfast. I was so excited to try breakfast tacos--legit excited to have EGGS in my tacos. This is a very casual, come-and-go Mexican spot that seems to be popular among locals and military personnel. They had a great selection of breakfast tacos to choose from that are really cheap, too. I had the Country & Egg, Chorizo & Egg, and Huevos Mexicana tacos--they were all superb, but the Country & Egg and Huevos Mexicana stood out the most. I wish the tacos had more filling but then again, it kept me satisfied until dinnertime (with some snacks in between, of course). The service was nice and I'm sure their entrees come in huge portions and are just as delicious if I stayed here for another meal. Nothing fancy but if you need something filling, this is a good spot to come to.

Just went there to get a simple lunch (caldo de Res). And specifically asked for the flour tortillas, red peppers, onions and cilantro. The waitress said ok took my card and charged me. I received none of those items so I'm here with VERY bland caldo de res and hard rice to accompany it with.

Update went again with hubby and son. So impressed again! Inexpensive and delish. We brought menudo home on our bipolar weather today. It's so delish. The homemade tortillas are so good too.

I decided to stay in the city longer to check out this place. This restaurant is huge and the wait was 45 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. We used our waiting time to stroll through the Mercado across the way. Once the table was ready, my friend got a text. I always wanted to try menudo every Mexican restaurant I go to. But not until I saw the sign on the back cover. This restaurant is under the same owner as Pico de Gallo. Omg. I just had their menudo the day before. No thanks. I decided to order fajita chicken salad. The portion was really small. The food only filled a half of the fried salad bowl. I asked to put cheese on the side. It may had it look more but I don't eat cheese as much. I was glad that dressing was on the side. Which was too salty for me. So, if the food was the same as other chain, we could have eaten there which was closer to the hotel. But I noticed the difference was the servers. Our waitress was cuter and very polite. My friends kept teasing her. She kept good manner and responded back with a smile "uhhh no". Hahaha.

The hostess was a little drab but as I was walked in to be seated, you could feel the upbeat mood. Note that if you're dining solo, they will push hard to seat you at a dark diner type counter to stare at the kitchen area even if you have a reservation, so don't give in unless you're starving and that's your last resort. The colorful decor hits you and you're transported. I ordered the "Mexican Dinner" with chicken enchilada, pork tamal, beef taco with beans and rice. Also had a side order of fresh handmade tortillas. Paloma to wash it all down. Everything tasted great. My server was excellent. Patient and helpful with recommendations. The mariachi band was fun and they roamed the restaurant and bar to play, so chances are that if they aren't singing at your table then they're nearby.

They ran out of cheesecake so they gave us tres leches as a substitute--as a huge tres leches fan, this was even better. Both desserts were outstanding. 10/10 will be back if visiting San Antonio again Service was also exceptional--ask for Theresa!! Love the setting, definitely sit outside if you can! There's such a wonderful selection, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. As parents with notoriously picky eaters, we especially appreciate how accommodating the staff is - it's such a relief to know that our kids can also find something yummy with just a quick chat with the staff member. That really makes a difference for a family outing! And oh my goodness, the appetizers are simply fantastic. We couldn't get enough! I also have to give a special shout-out to the Carrajillo I ordered. It was such a delightful surprise - perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, with a lovely citrusy kick that made it incredibly refreshing. Definitely a new favorite drink! We're already looking forward to our next visit to explore more of amazing menu. Just a little heads-up for anyone else, we realized on our way out that there's an extra parking lot right across the street if the main one fills up. Super handy to know!

It was delicious! The concha was soft, buttery and flaky, with just the right sweetness. We took home the majority of it and it stayed nice and soft instead of turning hard like so many others. We decided to try several appetizers to go along with our concha to get a wider taste of their food than we would by just ordering a couple entrees. Let me tell you, this was a great idea! We ordered the Tosti-Ceviche Verde, Panela Asado, Mexican Street Corn, and their Spicy Bean Dip. The Ceviche Verde was excellent, the freshness of the fish and shrimp was wonderful with the chipotle mayo and avocado. We chose to have it on the salsa Verde Tostitos and it was all great combination. The Panelo Asado was a completely new dish for us and was extremely good with a savory flavor from the salsa Tlaquepaque that mixed well with the Panela cheese. Their tortillas though not made in house, are made for them and taste like mom made them. The Mexican Street Corn was great and had the perfect bit of char taste from the corn. It was creamy and flavorful, we did think it could use just a tad more lime juice though. The Spicy Bean Dip was very good. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca, Chorizo, and pieces of pork mixed with some mildly spicy beans. Our server was fantastic. She had great recommendations for us, and was quick with checking on our drinks and generally helping us throughout our dinner. The food was prepared quickly, was hot, tasteful and refreshing. We definitely will be going back, and recommend Pan Fila to all of you.
