Yume Tateo has constantly made mistakes on my visit notes costing me time and money to consistently have to visit again to update notes. I have had to resort to asking for my visit notes after visits and after seeing her from Jan to Oct I will be requesting a different provider. Her errors have caused my insurance to cancel procedures delaying my care and most recently prescribing me a wrong dosage. I do not recommend this location or provider. read more

I had a 10:45 AM post-colonoscopy consult at OC Gastrocare, and despite repeated text reminders about the appointment, my experience was incredibly frustrating. I arrived 5 minutes early, expecting a quick discussion about my lab biopsy results--something that should have taken less than 60 seconds to communicate. I was taken into the room by 11:00 AM, but by 11:30 AM, the doctor still hadn't shown up. At that point, I walked out. I have a lot going on in my life, and I don't appreciate having my time disrespected. Doctors who make patients wait excessively are, in my opinion, inconsiderate and arrogant. First time I came in, PA Hannah attended me. She was pretty short, dry, and not the nicest; but, in the end we got my colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled with the staff there. On the day of, I got the actual doctor there who was super nice and amazing (considering I'd never met him until I was rolled into the OR). Follow up appointment was with Hannah over the phone since she was out of office with COVID. This time around, she was a lot more understanding and compassionate. Let me start by saying the doctor, Hanna Ro, is the best doctor I've ever had, FIVE STARS FOR HANNA! This is not who the review is for. I'm writing this review for the people working the front desk. The most incompetent healthcare administrative staff I've ever experienced. I got some not-great test results from my provider Hanna on Fri Oct 13, and she said the office would be calling me back to make a CT imaging appointment. I waited until Tuesday Oct 17, still no call so I called them. I said "hey I was supposed to get a call from you to schedule a CT". The girl at the front desk said "you can actually just make that appointment yourself at any wave imaging center". So me, knowing how healthcare authorizations work, looked up the address for a wave imaging by me, read her the address and phone number of the wave imaging site and asked "can you send the referral to that location?" she said sure no problem. I assumed she had sent that referral when we talked PLUS she told me to go ahead and make the appointment, so right after that call I called the imaging place and made an appointment for 8 days later on Oct 25 (authorizations usually take 5-7 days so I figured this would be no problem. The DAY BEFORE on Oct 24, Wave called me and said they'd never been sent an authorization. I had requested off work and my mom did too for moral support, so I spent the rest of the day calling my insurance and OC Gastrocare to see what was going on. They said my authorization was sent OCT 20TH, 3-4 DAYS AFTER my conversation with the receptionist when she said to go ahead and make an appointment. After being on the phone with my insurance, they told me my Doctor could reach out to the UM department to hurry it along, and gave me the phone number to pass onto my doctor. I called OC Gastrocare to ask if they could pass that along to my Doctor Hanna and they said ok, so I gave them the phone number and department name. Hours passed and I called again and they said there was NO RECORD of me requesting that, but asked me for the number AGAIN and said they would have my provider Hanna call me later that day. I never received a call. I really do not believe they ever passed on the message to my doctor because it was never passed on the first time. I believe this because I checked on my authorization about a day or two after the appointment and the authorization specialist said that calling the UM specialist "was something they could do but let's wait till the 7 business days pass" which makes me think they never tried to reach out the first time. So the day of my appointment came and went with no authorization. I rescheduled to the following week with WaveImaging, Tues Oct 31. The DAY BEFORE my appointment OCT 31 OC Gastrocare called me and said my referral went through FOR THE WRONG LOCATION AND COMPANY. And the authorization was not transferrable, I would have to just get another one created. They said they would make an urgent referral which SHOULD be approved before my appointment tomorrow, but I may have to cancel again. Because of the issues thusfar, I called back like an hour or two later JUST to make sure the referral WAS sent to the RIGHT company, and it WAS marked urgent... so far it looks like they did, but no one noticed the last address was wrong until the day before last time so honestly I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I can get my test. This last screw-up with the wrong authorization address was the last straw though. The front desk staff clearly does not pass on messages, clearly does not understand how authorizations work, and clearly do not communicate WITH EACH OTHER. I firmly believe you should not have to fight this hard with your healthcare provider. The administrative staff should be doing the work to check the authorizations, request them in a timely manner, KNOW NOT TO TELL PATIENTS TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE EVEN REQUESTING THE AUTHORIZATION, and let the patient know if something went wrong with enough time to change things (not the day before). OC Gastrocare, you have the absolute best doctors, do not continue to ruin your reputation with the front desk staff you have. I did ALL the legwork of checking the authorization, advocating for myself with my insurance, figuring out what numbers to give them to call, and every single step of the way they dropped the ball. If you want to go hear, I'm sure you will love your doctors but if you are not the type who can really advocate for yourself and know the healthcare system, this may be a bad choice for you. Again, I have LOVED working with Hanna. I think she's the best doctor I've ever had. She was professional, immediately ordered tests and took my symptoms seriously. I got clear concise lab results and really feel like she was data and science-driven, rather than saying "it could be x,y, z" she ran tests before giving me definite guesses. I saw Dr banvadia yesterday he starts off coming in the room and telling me he's freezing like what kind of doctor doesn't even know his office is normally cold and should bring a jacket? So he told me he doesn't know anything about a certain food allergy that I have and I kept telling him that I'm in a bunch of groups and I have an app that shows me which foods I shouldn't be eating but sometimes it's unavoidable and he just kept telling me over and over that this thing doesn't even exist I said there's thousands of people on the internet showing me it does and they have apps for it it's a huge bickering session with him and he kept saying well I don't know that and I said well I'm just telling you right now and im not a liar but he went the whole time pretending it doesn't exist after admitting he doesn't know and I'm educating him is what he said! so then he was contradicting himself on some medications I should take and just kept pushing doing some scope and I tried to ask him six times if they found something is there a medication and he refused to answer a simple yes or no or anything at all and it turned into this big yelling thing at one point he tried to say that I'm not listening to him yeah right like hello I'm there to get his help for chronic irritation in my entire intestinal tract and why would I not allow him to talk he never even heard of what throat coat is... like what kind of doctor doesn't know how to soothe your insides!?! Turned out they have the stuff they sell for it at the front of the office so I had to ask the receptionist about it and took pictures of it it's for acid reflux what the heck just trying to push a procedure and not help soothe my insides and insane amount of bickering. I mean it was so bad then he basically just kept refusing to answer my questions and stormed out of the room and said he wasn't going to charge me for the visit and so I went to the front desk and I said I want to see someone else they asked what happened I told her he wasn't answering my questions and just turned into a big argument she said yeah okay in that case we can schedule you with someone else said sure call back later. this morning I call and they said that because of what happened yesterday I'm not allowed to see anyone else at their office read more

This place helped me realize why my parents literally never let me go to the doctor unless I was basically dying. Growing up, I thought that my parents were just cheap. I still think that, but now I realize that there is some truth to boycotting the doctor. I've been having some bloating issues, and so I wanted to see a gastroenterologist to see if there was anything specific causing this. He then proceeded to explain how the "Western diet" with highly-processed food was "bad for you." Thanks, captain obvious. I told him that I already knew this, and I usually eat as minimally processed as much as possible. He also mentioned curbing lactose intake because it can make some people bloat (also obvious), and then as a last resort, mentioned "low-fodmap" foods. Which I also knew, because Google is a really great resource that apparently is more helpful than a med-school accredited doctor. My other issue with this place is that even though I already gave them my card info in the beginning, they asked me to pay the $45 fee (it would've been $200 without insurance; the American healthy system is broken, but I still don't think I should pay $45 for information I already knew), and they asked me to send it via a letter back. I do not have stamps (we should support USPS but I digress); in this digital age, you want me to send my credit card information over paper... to your office... yeah, I'm good! read more

Overall experience has been very disappointing. From the very first appointment I had scheduled over the phone I was told to fast for 9-12 hours thinking I was going to have the colonoscopy procedure performed the day of my appt. The day of my appointment, which was at 1:45 pm, I arrive and the door is locked with a sign that says "We will return at 2 pm". I knock on the door and the receptionist opens the door and says we are closed until 2 pm. I inform her how is that possible if I was given an appt for 1:45 pm ! She lets me in and says let me check our computer. You are right she says... let me get you checked in. I get called in 30 minutes later and the nurse who gathers my information says Dr. Konturek is at lunch right now, but he should be with you in 20 minutes. Thirty minutes later Dr. Konturek finally shows up and starts explaining what I should expect with the procedure once they schedule it. So I stop him and ask wait am I not having the procedure today??!! He says no we have to schedule it and you have to drink a liquid for one day along with fasting with a liquid diet. I said then why did they tell me to fast when I made my appointment. He says I'm not sure...at this point I am frustrated and hangry. Long story short when they scheduled my procedure I had to check with my insurance that the facility where it was scheduled was in-network, which it wasn't and I had to reschedule again. I do not recommend this medical group if you are looking to have a screening colonoscopy done. I had my procedure done on 8/28/23 and I still don't have my results from pathology. Today (3 weeks later) I had to call and ask when I should expect my results. The person I spoke to said 1 more week and the PA will send out a letter. She was very impatient when my mother didn't understand the medical terms that were given to her and spoke aggressively/impatiently to her when she tried to pull out her phone to use google translate. There are 4-5 doctors. My specialist Dr.michael Kim is the best gastrocare specialist. I think He always thinks about how he can help patients. Basically He is very kind and nice i never ever seen doctors like him before. Every time I see him, he always listens to my story to the end and advises on the best way to do it. He also found faulty ultrasound scans of gallbladder polyps that could have been operated on so he recommended me to take re-u Rather, the specialist who majored in the organ returned by Michael did not allow the re-examination and strongly demanded that the organ be removed. So i called to Kim's office to take ultrasound again. Finally Dr.kim is correct. My size of gallbladder polyps are up to 3mm and its stable polyps. Two surgeons who strongly posh to remove gallbladder are the worst surgeon. They just wanna make money frm patients. I dont know about other doctors. I'm surprised as to how many low ratings this facility has on Yelp. I've been working with the Dr. Aimee Torres since January of this year & I have A LOT of great things to say about her. First of all, she's the only doctor that I've worked with who has taken my intestinal pain seriously. Secondly, she has taken the time to work with my busy schedule. Thirdly, and most importantly, she has been the sole reason I have found any relief for my colitis. Other doctors kept telling me there was nothing wrong with me or they would disregard my pain because I'm young. Yet, Dr. Torres and her staff have been nothing but helpful in aiding me towards a healthier path. I cannot believe the poor reviews on yelp for this office. The office staff, Ms Aimee Torres & Dr Jason Yip have always treated myself with care, compassion and a sense of urgency. I work in the healthcare field (I have for 19 years now) & I have encountered as both a healthcare worker and as a patient some truly awful physician offices and this is not one of them. My first appointment was a hospital follow up from a previous procedure I had out of the area. I got in right away for my consult with Ms Torres, she listened to all my concerns and addressed them and she had me scheduled for a repeat procedure with Dr Yip at the surgery center. His bedside manner and thoroughness was fantastic- he made sure to talk to me pre and post procedure with his findings. Rather than wait for weeks or months for a follow up appointment to get results, Ms Torres called me and sent me an email that everything was good. It was a great experience especially considering what a stressful situation it had been and major complications I had prior to being treated at this office. A year 1/2 or so later I had some newer symptoms, saw Ms Torres again who had me set up for 2 procedures with Dr Yip. Again, his bedside manner and calming demeanor (it's stressful to be put under anesthesia) at the surgery center really put me at ease (especially during covid) and again made sure to talk to me about his findings and Ms Torres was prompt with my results. I've never felt dismissed or any type of negative experience with this office. Truly grateful for their expertise and treatment. read more

There scheduling process sucks big time. Yesterday I tried to call to make an appointment, it went to VM saying they will return call in 24 hours. This morning they are calling me couple times, I missed the call then tried to call back, then again asking me to leave VM saying they will return call in 24 hours. So if they call me tomorrow and same thing happen, I will be in this endless loop even before making appointment, I can imagine how horrible it would be to get hold of them if I start getting treated by them, and have questions and need help. When just making an appointment I have jump through the mercy of their front desk appointment setters hoops. I was referred by Dr. Pejman Babakhanlou, MD, but unfortunately I could not even get hold of a live person to be able to make even the appointment. Don't care how good the Dr is. If your admin process is this bad, I don't think it would be too long to loose all your patients, or turn away all the new prospective patient. This review is only regarding the customer service of one of the girls up front. I called to try to get a prescription for my father. I explained everything to her. She told me that insurance does not cover it and told me some other things about what she was going to do about the prescription but Sometimes I don't quite understand things very well and I need to ask questions and maybe be explained to again. Especially when it comes to medical stuff haha. But she was rather short with me and really did not want to explain it to me again. All she said was that I was not understanding what she was saying.... How rude. Girl, if you're not happy with your job or don't like working with patient's, then maybe you're in the wrong field. My experience here has been so beyond terrible that it just has to be documented for two reasons: to get the frustration off my chest and to possibly save anyone from going through the same experience. As a healthcare professional myself, it is disgusting to see how poorly this office operates and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a place that cares about your well-being. They might get the job done, but read on and you can decide if it's worth coming here when there are so many other options available. The Office The office is one of the cleanest and probably the most technologically advanced doctor's offices I have been to with an informational tablet you can use and an interactive display board for the doctor to use. The waiting room is small and cramped. As other reviews mentioned, there is no such thing as an appointment time here because you won't be seen for at least an hour from that time. The Doctors I don't have much to say about the doctors because to be honest, they didn't do anything out of the ordinary. If anything, I felt like they my doctor didn't spend enough time explaining anything...which is ironic because if you watch their self-promotional videos they play, the doctor admits to being able to spend time with patients is a problem. The Office Staff/Operations -Friday After being diagnosed and given a prescription that required prior authorization with my insurance, the office sent in inaccurate information on Friday that resulted in the authorization being denied (they did not communicate the fact that I had tried an alternative even when the doctor asked me specifically that during my appointment that Thursday and I told him I did try). -Monday I call the office, follow the prompts and only get a voicemail where I leave message explaining the issue with my prior authorization. The message states they will return messages in a business day. -Tuesday No callback the entire day. I decide to give them until Wednesday. -Wednesday No callback the entire morning. I call the office again, follow the prompts and only get a voicemail (is a person ever available?) where I leave another message explaining my issue with the prior authorization. -Thursday No callback still. I call the office yet again, follow the prompts and now the voicemail box is full. Really? Full? I can only think that the person responsible is off or on vacation, yet somehow the office allows messages to go unchecked for nearly a week. While my issue was not extremely serious or urgent, although very unpleasant suffering through the symptoms without treatment, imagine how many other patients with more serious or urgent issues went ignored for nearly a week. I call back and try every other extension in hopes of reaching a human being and finally do. I tell her about my problem and she says she will take care of it. -Friday I work for the insurance company that handles the prior authorizations so I check the status of my account and see that nothing has done. I call in the morning and speak with another female, explaining the situation and that I need help in getting this authorization done. She says she will tell the person in charge of the authorizations and take care of it. I wait until the afternoon and of course, my account remains empty. I call the office again, speak with the same girl and she states that the person that does the authorizations "was in clinic" all morning and that she will ask that person again to do it. The office closes at 5pm and when I call at 430pm to followup, the calls are already being forwarded to the answering service and gone are any hopes of getting treatment that week. An entire week of suffering through my symptoms and all the time and effort in practically begging them to help me was in the end pointless with an office that borders on negligence. The blame goes on the entire office, including the doctors that while are not directly involved, allow their staff to operate in this manner. Do you really want to leave your health in these people's hands? Fortunately for me, I was able to speak with the insurance company instead to get the authorization done the following week without having to deal with this office again. I will be filing a grievance with the insurance company regarding this office's operations and will never again come here nor recommend it to anyone, not even my enemies. P.S. Two of the "5 star" reviews found here are from people affiliated with the office. Jason Y., the first to review, is a doctor there and Joshua E. admits himself to working as their "pathology rep." Hopefully these unethical reviews will be taken down soon, but adjust their overall rating yourself accordingly. This office is great, I do not understand the bad reviews. I love the fact that they are taking precautions for Covid-19 and offering telephone call appointments or video call appointments for consultations. The staff is amazing and seem to care and take interest in what is going on. Special thanks to front office for being very kind when I scheduled the appointment for my mother. The doctor we spoke with is very kind and knowledgeable. He answered all our questions and did not make us feel rushed. Important information was emailed to us and we had no issues picking up medication at the pharmacy. We had a follow up with the PA after the procedure. She was great and explain everything very well. My mother's plan of treatment is working and she is feeling better. This office knows what they are doing! Overall it was a really easy process and a good experience.
