I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Marks during my clinical rotation. Throughout my rotation, I was allowed to continue seeing patients under her supervision. However, at the end of the rotation, Dr. Marks completed an evaluation stating that I was "unsafe" and lacked fundamental nurse practitioner knowledge in nearly every aspect of patient care. If Dr. Marks truly believed I was unsafe to provide patient care, I do not understand why I was allowed to continue seeing patients instead of being removed from clinical duties or provided with immediate remediation. Patient safety should always be the highest priority. Since completing my education, I have successfully become a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner. While I recognize that every student has areas for growth, I believe that if such serious concerns truly existed during my clinical rotation, they should have been addressed immediately through direct teaching, supervision, and a structured remediation plan rather than being documented only in a final evaluation after I had completed the rotation. The evaluation stated that I could not distinguish normal from abnormal physical exam findings, develop differential diagnoses, create treatment plans, document appropriately, or understand common medications and their side effects. If these concerns genuinely existed, I believe they should have been addressed in real time through teaching, direct supervision, and documented feedback--not presented only at the end of the rotation. A preceptor's responsibility is not only to evaluate students but also to mentor, teach, provide ongoing feedback, and intervene when patient safety is a concern. I would have welcomed honest, constructive feedback throughout my clinical experience so I could improve. Instead, I received an overwhelmingly negative final evaluation that did not reflect the level of guidance I was provided during the rotation. I entered my clinical rotation eager to learn and become a safe, competent nurse practitioner. I left feeling discouraged by the disconnect between the supervision I received and the final evaluation. I hope future students receive consistent mentorship, timely feedback, and appropriate intervention if serious concerns about their clinical competence truly exist. read more

I am disappointed with this clinic. I was seen by a nurse practitioner. The doctor did not even see me. And they made me get my lab work done at their own lab and the lab technician was not experienced. She had difficulty drawing my blood and I ended up with a big swelling and multiple big bruises on my arm. I have been using Quest lab for the last 16 years and never had an issue. This is the first time I had my labs drawn at this clinic lab and I end up with all these bruises. It has been a week and no lab results available. I have been calling them and they keep telling me results are not in. These are my annual physical labs and Quest lab used to have my results available the following day on their website and on their lab. I recommend you never this lab. I will never use it again and will try to find another doctor. read more

This medical facility is a major risk to peoples health and safety. They would not release my wives lab results from the same week appointment without paying another $50 copay. They said the Dr would not give her a callback and go over her lab results which were very important according to the nurse who called. This is ridiculous, unethical, illegal and a violation of her right to treatment etc and according to HHS.gov. We will be filing a complaint to our insurance and this is also like they are double billing the insurance when this was not another appointment or consultation but a continuation of the Monday one, especially when there's some very concerning about her medical results. I couldn't believe what my wife was telling about what they made her do before they can say; "hey there's a chance you have something very concerning going on with your health and issues that need immediate attention. Oh and you possibly have internal bleeding." So she would have not know what to do next if she could not afford to pay the today $50 copay or wouldn't have paid what the medical staff was asking. I'm so irritated right now and feel that is negligence, selfish, unprofessional and unethical practices by the office and the doctor. I should consult an attorney. This is ridiculous, upsetting and concerning. They were withholding and holding her health records hostage if she didn't pay another copay. So what is going to happen when she gets the other result from this exams and referral about her possible internal bleeding??? Service was poor/didn't feel professional. The nurse was asking me the screening questions with the door wide open. People were constantly walking past the open door looking in and easily hearing our private conversation. The nurse left and said the doctor would be in. Please keep in mind that you can be legally liable for defamation if what you say is proven to be lies, malicious, or intentional infliction of emotional distress. Med school is an extremely difficult years long process. To deliberately attempt to tarnish someone's practice can have severe consequences, not only for the physician, but for the person responsible for creating such circumstances. Dr. Marks is highly educated, and a phenomenal physician. She has been my physician for more than ten years. The practice is easy to locate, it sits on a main street (Ball Rd.). The offices are not run down or dirty. In terms of crowding, it wouldn't be if patients extended the courtesy to other patients of not bringing your whole family with you for an appointment. Patients should have no more than one family member accompany them to their appointment. Lastly, Dr. Marks personally sends all prescriptions to your pharmacy, so to suggest that she would have a receptionist or medical assistant call in a prescription is ridiculous, and a blatant lie. There will be no error with your prescription because all communication is clear between the patient, provider, and your pharmacy. One should always do their homework when researching a medical provider. Check their educational background, licensing, and years in practice. Also, speak with other physicians to verify their reputation amongst the medical community. If you take these steps that will help you determine the best physician for you. read more

I had the opportunity to precept with Dr. Marks from November 2023 - January 2024. As far as my background, I was a student family nurse practitioner beginning my 1st rotation in the clinical setting at her office with 4 years of experience working in the emergency department as a registered nurse. During those 3 months, working with Dr. Marks was absolutely horrible. From my observation, Dr. Marks & her husband see anywhere between 70-90 patients in a day, often more. It is a very chaotic environment. Dr. Marks has very little to no time to teach you in between patients, she was rude to me, and I felt that she lacked empathy. She also took about 2 months to complete my evaluation for my program, which was far past the deadline, which had been communicated to Dr. Marks multiple times. While precepting at her office, she gave a negative evaluation to 3 students, all from different NP schools. I was one of those students. One other student decided to stop precepting with Dr. Marks shortly after she began, out of fear that Dr. Marks was going to give her a negative evaluation as well, due to the negative experience she sustained also. All glory to God, I have now graduated from my program despite this VERY unpleasant experience I endured at this office. From my understanding, Dr. Marks seems to only be concerned about the unpaid labor that each student provides her that way she can handle her work load. I want to start out this review by saying that I really like Dr. Marks, and I have been trying to make this work, but it just does not feel like a professional environment at the office. My main problem is that it takes at least 1.5 hours after your appointment time to get in to see her for a short visit. I kept thinking this was just a fluke or a busy day for them, but it kept consistently happening. I originally found Dr. Marks on Oscar's provider list, and she had good reviews, so I scheduled with her, but when I showed up for my appointment I was switched to her husband without being given a choice. I was told "she sees the women and he sees the men." I was unhappy about this, but I was not being a good advocate for myself and stepping up to say I did not want to see another random doctor. I eventually, on a later appointment, asked to be changed to her, but it took me having to ask them to switch me to the doctor I had been scheduling the appointments with. I have also been having problems with them getting my medications sent to the pharmacy and in the right dosages, but if you made it to this part of the review and your are still considering coming here and waiting that long for an appointment then I guess it doesn't really matter what I have to say. read more

Finding a care provider for an elderly is definitely not an easy thing. I end up going through two care providers before finding Santa Maria clinic. The first two providers, you can tell they don't care, it's just a matter of moving patient through, mostly you are dealing with a PA only, you would be lucky if you are seen by the doctor for no more than five minutes, they basically sent us back home with cough syrup. While at Santa Maria, from the moment you walk in you can feel they truly care. I have yet to see a staff that I didn't like, every time mom go there, she is cared for by an assistant, then a PA comes in and spends at least 10 minutes reviewing and creating a detailed assessment, then Dr. Marks, oh my god this angel, she spends a lot time reviewing every single thing before let you go, I'm so thankful for her. A complete blood work was ordered and correct diagnosis given, within two days mom was feeling much better. besides Dr. Marks, if I have a star to give it would be to Nataly, she is the sincerest person I have ever dealt with, very helpful, mom gives her a hug every time she is there. sorry I wrote too much, in the end dumped my provider and now Santa Maria Clinic is my provider, even if they are over 20 miles away from home. This review is for VICTORIA MAE LACHAPELL, an employee here at the clinic. I cannot speak for anyone else there. I came into this clinic looking for help because I wanted to get an abortion. Everything seemed generally okay at first until LaChapell ended our 12:15pm appointment on 03/09/2022 with a referral to another clinic to get an ultrasound done so I can see which type of abortion I would need to get because after a certain number of weeks, the type of abortion you would need changes. I was so wrong to trust this conniving employee. LaChapell intentionally and MALICIOUSLY sent me to a militant, religious pregnancy crisis center by the name of Horizon Pregnancy Clinic in Long Beach in hopes that she could get them to convince me to continue my pregnancy. I went to their clinic and experienced manipulation and deceit because I had no idea what type of place it was until the end of the appointment when they began spewing religious nonsense to me. Religion has no place in healthcare and Victoria LaChapell should stay in the church, and not a medical office where she can continue her religious "mission." A quick Facebook search shows her public profile and her affiliation with other militant church groups. This is not private and anyone who types her name on Facebook can see that. I felt disgusting that LaChapell touched my stomach. I would never let someone with a hidden agenda PHYSICALLY touch me. How is anyone supposed to know that they cannot trust a doctor and their referral? This is completely unethical and possibly a violation of the Stark Law. The most messed up part about this was that someone in the office, a higher up named Rowen or Rowan, begged me not to complain and spoke over me on the phone and said that what I said was awkward. She claimed that LaChapell would never do such a thing. Little do they know, people can make connections to things and use their knowledge to understand that this was all done intentionally. This office has probably allowed her to do this and was surprised to find that they thought I would not speak up about my disgusting experience here. I have reported this place and specifically LaChapell to the appropriate authorities. No one should be treated like this in such a difficult time, when you need a care provider to do their job, and not try to control people's body to push their beliefs. I had an appointment with Dr Catherine Marks. It is in a rundown medical plaza that looks a bit old and slightly hard to find. After getting into the room and get set up, I was told that they switch me to Dr Assanassios Moussa Faltas without telling me because they're husband and wife team, they're the same(Sure, but it would be nice if someone tell me that). After a short wait, a student Nurse Practitioner came to see me. She was very knowledgeable and very kind; she insists that the doctor will be in soon. The doctor never showed up at all despite multiple request from me. I was sent home without ever seeing a doctor. The entire visit was sketchy from beginning to finish. Pretty crazy to think that I spend $250 for 20' talking to a student NP. I don't even know how this isn't illegal lol. Maybe you should consider another provider. read more

Dr Marks and staff were all so wonderful. I told her about a recent sport-related injury causing knee pains and she took extra care in evaluating my knee. She genuinely showed she cared, we didn't feel rushed at all. Nurse Heather was also very thorough and attentive. It's been over a week since my visit and I am feeling much better and stronger each day since following Dr. Marks' advise and prescriptions. My husband also had his physical exam that day and is likewise feeling better from following Dr Marks' recommendations. If you don't mind waiting over an hour after your appointment to be seen by a doctor then they are good. Otherwise I'd suggest going somewhere else. I thought it was just the first appointment because you have to fill out 30 minutes of paperwork but it seems like it's like that every time you go there. Very unhappy with their organizational skills and time management. I recently had a change in physicians and Catherine Marks was referred to me. While I found her to be an awesome, and genuine physician, her front desk staff are unprofessional and seemingly incompetent. To say the least. I asked one of the staff members once, she's a nurse I think, something regarding my visit. She answers with "I don't know's" without any attempt to find out the answer or seek a second opinion. There's no sense of urgency, and while they work in a customer/ hospitality based field, it's unfathomable to me how they've managed to maintain their current positions. I don't want to have change physicians because of incompetent staff, but if I'm continuously made to feel uncomfortable there, then I shall look for a new physician. Catherine Marks, like I've mentioned, is great! She's knowledgeable, understanding and is definitely one of the best doctors I've ever had. It's a shame that her staff isn't up to par. read more

This place is not a clinic, it's a hole in the wall filled with employees that wouldn't know the difference between a scalpel and a pair of chopsticks. It's clear that the staff hear lacks empathy, sympathy or professional standards to make it in a real medical field environment. The staff is extremely rude and argumentative. The receptionists and assisting staff have their tattoos and love hickies on display on their necks to compliment their nasty attitudes and the smell of Marlboro cigarettes. The location itself is very inconspicuous where there is no signage that readily identifies the name of this place. This type of location is very similar in its appearance and practice to a business engaging in illegal activity, using its medical licensing as a front. I found this clinic through my Oscar App. I was having some serious issues that I think were related to a new drug I was prescribed. I was able to make an appointment through the app within a days time. I made the appointment with Dr. Moussa but I saw Dr. Catherine Marks. Words cannot describe how thankful I am for finding these doctors and this clinic. Dr. Marks really cares and spent a significant amount of time talking to me about my symptoms and it took as long as it took. She didn't rush or hurry through my appointment. Dr. Marks ordered some tests and one of those tests explains the last 12 years of my life. I am amazed! Most doctors will have the attitude/opinion that I am just fat and lazy but this doctor has found the reason why no matter what I do, I cannot lose weight and I feel fatigued and want to stay home all the time. I am very happy I found her. It's hard to find a doctor that REALLY cares.
