I am a vegan. I came to this buffet thinking that I could eat some fresh stir fried veggies. Boy, was I wrong. Even though it was 5:30 in the evening (supper time), the veggies were extremely soggy, oily and old. No white rice, only fried rice. This buffet offers several varieties of food, to sushi and a fresh hibachi grill to good fresh chinese food. I have never been there where the food was stale or bad. It's self serve and the wait staff brings you refills and or whatever else you need. I would reccomend this place if you are looking for an inexpensive place to eat in Garland. Thumbs up. read more

The food is good but not amazing. I like the mongolian grill in it with plenty of ingredients to choose from. On the weekend the food is hot and fresh but during the week some of it dries out or gets cold. We just ate there and had to avoid the salmon, macaroni and cheese and one or two other items due to the age of them. read more

Unfortunately, this place was not worth eating at. Who ever give pass 3 stars does not know what good food is. Neither would I consider this Chinese food in any sense. I do know my Asian food along with other ethnic food. Keep in mind it's a buffet so there's not a high expectation. For being around $10.59 at dinner on Fri/Sat night, you can't expect much either. If the highlight is the snow crab on these 2 nights then you're better off some where else. In terms of freshness, I would give it 4 stars. The place is clean too. Yes, the sushi is fresh, but it's not all that great. They look more like mini garnish rolls. Rule of thumb. If you ever go to an Asian restaurant and most of the guests aren't Asian, turn back around unless you want to be eating bland or over salted food. Their Shanghai Spring rolls should be called fried cabbage rolls because that is what it was with too much salt. Nothing else in the spring wrapper except cabbage and salt. I was at least expecting more variety of some sort. No pan fried dumplings or a variety of those usual appetizers. Oddly enough they had apple strudel. It was flakey on the outside, but the inside probably has too much of the apple pie filling to give it a soaked texture. There were plenty of shrimp, New Zealand mussels, baked squid rings, steamed flounder with Western seasoning and fried catfish with potato wedges. I didn't touch the soup. Can figure it out that it wasn't worth tasting. If the theme of the place is to be seafood then you would be very disappointed that's all the seafood there was. It wasn't extremely busy, but more than half way full. The lights were on too bright from every direction in case you really want to see how clean their floors are and find every speck of black pepper. They should use seperate spatulas to cook the grilled food for each guest. I didn't appreciate my food being mixed with chili pepper from the previous person in front of me. This is cross contamination that can cause a very bad allergic reaction for some. I don't think they are aware of that. Dessert was gelatin, banana pudding that was too sweet, canned peaches, pears, Mandarin orange, pineapple and lychee. As for fresh fruit, there were oranges, canteloupe and honeydew melon. There were rolls of dried cake, soft serve ice cream, macaroon, cheesecake and dried flakey pastry that isn't worth trying. You want sushi and sashimi at a good price along with a variety of other foods that doesn't limit you to waiting for the grill guy to cook your food together with others then try going to Osaka in W. Plano on weekday lunch about $17. It's worth it for the sashimi alone. It has been fresh every time I've eaten there. I've been to a lot of places all over town and know some places aren't all that and some are worth it for certain things. In terms of clean place to eat and fresh, this place got that. In terms of food to remember, I rather forget that I was there. I'm being as fair and straight forward about this place as I can be to let others know what they're in for. I've been to places that cost more and less than this place that I rather go to any time than here if I want to get my money's worth and actually enjoy eating something. This is one of the better Chinese buffets in the area for the price. Decent selection of sushi compared to others and fairly fresh. Large selection of Chinese food. Their salt and pepper shrimp is good and disappears quickly from the buffet. If you are one of the sorts to go to the buffet for crabs legs, they only serve them at dinner to my knowledge and better be prepared to circle that spot like a vulture. I have yet to try their hibachi but there is often a line of people waiting for it so I will take that as a good sign. They have a few non-Chinese options such as pizza which go over well with my kids. Their dessert selection is huge but mainly comprised of different fruits such as pineapple, peaches, pears, and apples. My hubby always gets their banana pudding. After my 2nd trip here, decided to write a review. My boyfriend who is from New York is a very picky chinese food eater & complained about not finding any good chinese buffets here in Dallas. Well someone recommended Ocean Buffet & there we went. The atmosphere I enjoyed, it was quiet but still had a good vibe. The staff was friendly enough. What I enjoyed most was the fried shrimp, the blackened shrimp, the orange chicken,the chicken on a stick, the hot wings, the deserts were the bomb! I normally love the cooked mushrooms, but the mushrooms here were too big & no flavor. The sweet & sour soup had plenty of tofu/veggies, but lacked any kind of flavor! The little fried crab meat thingamajigs were good until I realized it wasn't real crab meat..Ugh! Anyhoo, overall it wasn't the best we ever had, but my boyfriend said he would eat there again! First of all I am a big fan of sushi! My wife and I were craving sushi tonight but did not want to spend a lot of money. We came across an add in the paper of Ocean Buffet and thought we would give it a try. I have been to a few of these "super buffets" and am usually disappointed with service and food quality. Besides having to drive 25-30 min to get here I thought the food was excellent! I believe they take a lot of pride in the restaurant and the Sushi was surprisingly very good and fresh! We love it! I do hate that I tend to only get shrimp and don't taste so much other food. I get full off of just the shrimp after one serving. Because of price, you try to force yourself to eat more but in reality, one plate full is more than enough. We go about 3 times a year. read more

A complete let down. I thought maybe this will be a good Chinese buffet restaurant coz of the great reviews. Not so great!!!! So many down side: bad service all around(finished plates waiting to be taken away, food bland or too salty, seafood was stale like it had been in the pan for a week (crab legs)(crawfish wasn't even washed before it was cooked), desserts was nothing special and was almost all out of stock, had to wait along time on the fried shrimp, and most of the waiters just stand in their corner instead of going on their rounds to see if anything is needed by the customers.
