I went there this past week, hoping to buy a 2012 Fit...cash out the door...I requested a deal based on the fact that I was willing to take last year's model, and was told by the salesman, NO...when I tried to advance my case, he basically laughed at me, and told me to go elsewhere. I did, and got an awesome sales guy at Mazda to drop the price on a comparable vehicle by 800, and that was for a 2013. This is not really a place you can go to and feel good about giving them your business. This man basically made us feel that if we bought a car from them, they would be doing us a big favor. Although I never Yelp, I have a few words to say about Ocean Honda. I bought a used Civic at Ocean back in February. It came with a 3-month warrantee which gave me a sense of security, although I never expected to use it. I noticed a faint whine coming from what I thought to be a wheel bearing and reported it. I figured it could get worse once it was out of warrantee, so I'd better handle it now. I went for a ride with a mechanic, but neither of us could hear the noise. Over the next week or so, I figured out the condition that triggered the problem and took it back, but again we couldn't duplicate the problem. That's when Ocean showed their true colors. The head of service, the lead mechanic, and another mechanic turned their attention to the problem and worked with me to pin it down. They were as aware of the warrantee as I was and genuinely aimed to get it done before it ran out. After two more test drives, they heard it. Then, without as much as a word, they put in a brand-new transmission. There was never any question that they would honor their commitment. I'm grateful and impressed. This is the way it should be. read more

Do not trust the current owners. Profit is their only motivation. We are very disappointed with this dealership. We purchased our Honda Odyssey in 2010 from Ocean Honda. We shopped around quite a bit and Ocean was not able to offer the best price, but we purchased our Odyssey from Honda because we wanted to shop local and they offered a couple of nice perks. One off the perks they offered was $9.95 oil changes for the life of the vehicle. The other perk we purchased, although probably not our best purchase was the extended 7 year warranty, which was not cheap, although per Ocean Honda was a great deal because if you did not use the warranty you received the your money back in 7 years if you didn't use it. Fast Forward to 2012. Ocean Honda changed hands and the new owners decided not to honor the $9.95 for life oil change. Ocean Honda advised us that the warranty which we purchased thorough them was actually through a third party (not mentioned to us prior) and which they received a kickback for the sale was bankrupt and not returning the upfront purchase price for the warranty if not used, as was promised by Ocean Honda as a sales perk at time of purchase. We have spoken to past employees of Ocean Honda and they have confirmed that this business is for profit only and their best days have past. The new owners should be ashamed and embarrassed at sure poor business decisions and failure to stand behind there customers. read more

These guys are the worst; like a bad sitcom parody of the sleazy car dealership. The sales guy was throwing out so many shady half-truths that he started contradicting himself by the time we got to the negotiation stage. If it hadn't of been so odious, it would have been funny. Example 1: He tells me during the drive that the vehicle checks its own own oil viscosity, and I'll probably only need to do the oil every 7,000 miles, and I can get my oil done there for life for $9.95 a change. Then, when we have about a $1,000 difference in what I want to pay and what he wants me to pay, he goes into "But think of how much you'll save on your oil changes over the life of your car. " Well heck, I know simple math, so I did it. 7K per change = 15 changes in the course of 100,000 miles @ $20 savings per change = you expect me to spend an extra $1K today so I can save $600 in oil over the next 8-10 years? Gee, thanks Sparky! Example 2: Then he tries to tell me why I should just take the color they have on the lot, cause it's hard to find manuals and even this one might be gone soon. "How hard can it be?" I ask. Well he says, 98% of the ones they make are automatic.". Really, there's that few manuals? "Oh yeah, automatics outsell manual 20 to 1". Hmm,....well, wouldn't that mean that they at least make 5% manuals instead of 2%? Which would still be a small %, but also two and a half times bigger than what you just told me. Example 3: He tries to guilt us with "you want to buy local, don't you?". And then he alludes that, if the car is bought at the dealership, that it will get better service. "You know...if it has a little scratch or such, we take care of that". So, what you're telling me is that if I bought it elsewhere but have it serviced here, I'll receive inferior service? Oh, um....no...didn't meant that. Example 4: I ask him if they offer the Costco rate. He says yes, but immediately tries to change the conversation. I go back to it a few minutes later. He tries to avoid it again "Oh sure, and the AAA rate. But seriously? People get all excited about that like it saves a lot ,but it doesn't, yadda-yadda." I tell him point blank: Costco told me that I can see a Costco Sheet that shows the cost, no dickering needed. He then admits that he's not the Costco dealer...but he's suuure he can make me a good price. I leave. I called the Costco certified dealer in Seaside. I got quoted $15,998 instead of the $17,499 "marked down special for me to $16,999 rate that my "buddy" in Santa Cruz was quoting. Avoid em like the plague; I did and will. read more

I have gone to Ocean Honda 3 times for recalls and service. At first I thought this was a friendly and reasonable place to get my car serviced. The 3rd time I discovered that you should BEWARE that maybe some service you have asked for isn't really getting done. I had them rotate my tires based on the recommendation of the service attendant/ manager. Before giving them my car I marked the tires on the driver's side (front and back). After I got home, I did not check it for a couple of days not thinking anything of it -- and when I did, I was shocked and outraged that the marked tires were still in the same place where I marked them! This just makes me question if this dealership gets away with charging for service and not doing it (where the customer would not normally know one way or the other). I called this to the attention of the manager and he basically said he had to give the customer the benefit of the doubt and gave me my money back along with rotating the tires with me watching. However, I wonder how many times this has happened and they just did not get caught. I now DO NOT TRUST this dealership. read more

I bought my Honda Pilot here... That being said, I was not very happy with my experience here. I brought my Subaru Outback in for a trade in, they said they could give me $6000 for it. Granted it had, 140,000 miles on it but it was still in great shape. When I got there, I had already done my homework on the internet and they had already committed to the price on the Pilot. However, they wanted to check the subaru out for trade in value. The sales guy got in the car, and drove it around and thought all was well. There were no issues. Then he called some guy out of the building, who wasn't part of Santa Cruz Honda, but a "whole sale" buyer of cars. He immediately pulled some device out to see if there were any issues with the car. He plugged it in to the car and immediately, there were two lights that went off on the car. He looked at me like a liar and said, "I thought you said there were no lights." I was floored thinking that they thought I was trying to screw them. He said that if there were lights, he could not offer me $6000 for it but only $3000 for my trade in... Of course, I was back on my heals, so like an idiot I agreed. Instead, I should have said thank you and gone somewhere else. What I learned later was that he probably had his little machine set to turn maintenance lights on in the car when he plugged it in. I felt bad at the time because I was really counting on the $6000 for the car they had said initially... I felt awful when I realized what might have happened. Keep in mind that I don't know if this was the case, it was just very fishy that a car with no lights would conveniently come on when he plugged his machine into the car. I won't be buying another car here. Though I do love my Honda, I don't trust that kind of dealing. Why have a guy come out of the building mysteriously and ask about lights and then plug his machine in and low and behold now there are lights... It sounds fish to me. After reading the review, I just want you to walk away with one point : 1) They were very hostile when discussing price with me because I shared that I had done some prior research. SIDE NOTE: If I were you I'd go visit the Toyota dealership down the street. I visited the dealership looking for a used Honda Fit. Test drove a couple and a day later the car representative called me with what seemed to be a bargain, albeit it had faded paint and would require a new paint job. I went there to see the vehicle and test drive the car. They couldn't find the keys so I had to come back the next day to test drive it and fully inspect the car. The following day I came to test drive the car and, for the right price, purchase the car. As any intelligent buyer, I did my research including KBB, TMV, other dealerships, costs of repair around town, typical issues, etc. When I began to speak with the gentlemen he got noticeably irritated and angry... he literally said that these numbers mean nothing and he could throw numbers at me all day. He kept saying that I should just "trust" him (he literally said that). Regardless of whether his information was right he could have worked with me to understand WHY I was misinformed instead of stating things such things as "Ocean Honda is a family", you should "Trust me", etc. While negotiating he said it was an easy sale and that they won't have trouble selling it and that if I don't like the price I can walk out of their dealership... I just don't understand why the conversation turned into this. I was just trying to come informed about a car that is going to effect on my life for the next several years. Maybe this car wasn't the car for me. He could have been understanding and offer me other options. For instance... maybe the other cars that would cost the same as the price of the car were negotiating about plus the paint fees. I probably would be open to a newer car at a different price that I don't have to worry about. The manager came and smoothed things over but I walked away with soar taste for Ocean Honda and a miserable experience. read more

If they don't have the answer or are uninformed about something they make no effort to find out. I've had to return multiple time due to their mistakes. Very frustrating. read more

I recently took my car into Ocean Honda (January 2, 2018) for its 10 K service. I made my appointment for 11:30 am. This was my third attempt to get my car serviced. The first time the electricity was out and service personnel were unable to perform. The second time I booked service through the internet and that did not go through. I called to verify and they said my appointment was not in the system. The third time was over the phone to book my service. I delivered my car on time. The service agent did not write my contract until 11:47 am. I was told over the phone and in person that it would not take more than an hour and fifteen minutes. I didn't leave Ocean Honda until 2:30 pm. It took three hours for what was essentially an oil change and inspection. So the Car Doc package was essentially a rip off. I could have gotten better service elsewhere. This notion that a company can waste the time of a customer like this is absolutely outrageous, as if the customer's time is unimportant. This has no integrity and doesn't keep its word. Because of this incident, I will not purchase this car at the end of the lease and I will never buy or lease a Honda again, at least from a dealership. This is unfortunate because I absolutely love my car but the service was abysmal and I will never give my money again to a company that values its customers so little. On top of all that, despite being forced to wait for three hours, the water fountain did not work. Thank you for ruining the start of my new year. This company has left a bitter taste in my mouth and I will communicate this disappointment far and wide. I asked for a formal apology from the owner and manager and received no reply. read more

I was interested in purchasing a Honda and Jeremy was one of the people available to show me the car and guide me through the process of how everything works. He was brilliant! Very knowledgeable, makes you feel so comfortable with a brand new unknown car, he's very detail oriented and totally addressed all of my questions and any concerns. He's born and raised in Santa Cruz as well and I like knowing I can buy from a salesman here that is local and truly such a good person. I really wanted to buy a car from him but unfortunately I had to go with another dealership due to price difference as they didn't have the sale I was looking for at the time. I HIGHLY recommend Jeremy and I would've loved to buy the car directly from him if only the price wasn't an issue which was totally out of his hands. I know he would've offered the best deal if he could have but it wasn't possible at the time unfortunately. As for other salesmen I cannot speak on how they are. They have the head guy and what sucks is that they will not give you a quote via email or phone and they should change that. Got an oil change at another place around October and just recently this week my oil light started flashing so I made an appointment with Ocean Honda to see what was up with my car. Pulled up to the service station and had to wait maybe ten minutes? An advisor named Alexis was super kind and he was asking me about my day. I told him about my situation and he took a look at my car for me. Said I had barely any oil which was alarming. I'm not from Santa Cruz, I'm just a student here and I live in the East Bay. So the place I usually get my oil changes at was a fat drive home. However Alexis gave me some options and then spoke to his manager. Alexis was then able to top off some oil into my car FOR FREE and informed me more about what to do and gave me recommendations for my car and its oil. I was super grateful since it's near the holidays and I have to drive back East Bay soon. I offered to pay him for the oil but he said no it was okay which was super kind of him. Long story short he was super kind and gave really great customer service. Idk if it was just me that was an exception but he's great, staff is friendly, and if I ever need more car advice I'll go back there again :) read more

$2200 bill for a part on a new Honda that was faulty. I was sold a brand new CRZ and encouraged to buy an extended warranty but have been told my clutch needs replacement (in less than 3 years) (also less than the 60k power train warranty) and it won't be covered. This is after the sales people echoed time and again that "Hondas last forever" to help convince me to buy a car way out of my budget. Many fellow Honda customers say that dealerships will help is out out of goodwill as well, because they don't want to lose customers. Well, because of this bill I will likely have to sell my car and certainly won't be returning to Ocean Honda to buy another one. Was looking for a specific vehicle. Called Ocean Honda dealership spoke with Internet sales - Chris O'Connell - and was told that they have SUV in stock. Asked several times, giving specifics of the car, and stating that I need to pick-it up today. Was told - yes, vehicle is in stock. I live in San Jose, 30 miles away. Called again, to confirm that I am leaving, and that car is in stock, and that I am ready to pick it up today. Was told - yes, it is. Packed my family ( 2 kids ), drove for 30 miles, experienced kids getting bored and fighting, traffic and curves of HW 17. Upon arriving at the dealership, was greeted by another sales guy, Chris never came out. After 30 minutes of no action, learned that there is no car in stock, and that they are "securing" it from another dealership. I have Called Chris, to express my disappointment. During the call I mentioned that this dishonest behavior is unacceptable, and will be reported to BBB and yelp. Instead of apology, Chris started pretending to be scared, and I quote "oh, no, not Yelp". I have spent 2 hours of my time, 60 miles and 3 gallons - think twice before patronizing this place. read more

I attempted to purchase a truck from the used car part of this dealership. I went to the used car lot. I looked a reasonably priced Mada B2300 Truck, 2005 with tag price of $9988 and total miles around 33K. It was about $200 less then Kelly Blue book. I was there around 10 mins and no one ever came out of the building (this is their used car lot on frontage road not the one off 41st). I went into the Sales building as they has a neon sign that was one stating open. No one was there either. But the keys to all the cars where there. I took the key for the truck and test drove it in the lot. I liked it so I parked it put the key back and was driving out the lot (back in my car) to the dealership since this site appeared unmanned. The dealer pulled in right as I was pulling out. I made an offer of 5K with my trade-in that is valued around 4K given condition/mileage and features. He agreed and we went to the office to work out the paper work. At the office down the road off off 41st Ave. he insisted that I sign a credit/lease application. I should have held up for my rights. As a cash purchase I shouldn't need to list my employer/history of employment or next of kin. He wrote up my deal and told me to wish him luck. I didn't understand this part since I thought we were already in agreement. He came back and told me that my car was only worth $750. My car is an original owner 2004 Toyota Echo that even in Poor condition is listed in Kelly Blue Book as $2700. The MPG on my car is near 40MPG. One would not have a hard time selling it given the economy and price of gas. Anyways he said that they would cut me a deal and that deal was $9500 for the truck. So with the $750 from my trade-in the "deal" was no longer the "deal" we had discussed on the lot. I went from 5K to $7750 and they would do me the favor of taking my Toyota echo off my hands. I asked him what happened to the original deal? He produced the Kelly Book of the Truck, but failed to reference or produce the Kelly Blue Book of my car. He kept asking how much I wanted to spend and I kept telling him 5K was what I was looking to spend. The reason I am ranking this dealership so low is first the site that was "open" was abandoned for over 30 mins. Second they were all about the hustle. This was very clear. He pushed me into signing a credit application so they could see what my worth is and try to squeeze every penny from me. The third reason was the dealer's attitude. He was rude. I had another person with me and we both agree that this dealer was not interested in really in selling this car. He probably wanted to just go back to doing whatever it was he was doing while we waited at the lot for 30 mins. Forth reason is a deal is a deal in my book. When he verbally accepted an offer of 5K and my trade-in he flat out lied. He should have been honest with me and told me he couldn't make that decision but if I really wanted to know to come back to the dealership and have the person who could make that decision take a look. The sad thing it here I would have coughed up another 1K in cash if I hadn't felt hustled and lied too. If he wasn't so rude and deceitful. I really did want that truck. I know the Ocean Honda always have those nice cool signs posted on highway 17. Unfortunately the only thing they can do right is advertising. read more

This had to have been the best experience that I have ever had purchasing a car. We had Connor and he was not a typical bullying type of sales man. He asked us what we wanted and worked with it. Never once did he pressure us to buy more than we went in for and he worked it out so that our 2 year old was able to do the trip in two sessions rather than one long day. I am absolutely impressed and will recommend Conner to anyone I know that is going to purchase a Honda. He even sent someone out to a dealer that was about 100 miles away to bring back the exact car that we wanted, and this cost us nothing extra. This was not easy as we wanted one of the most popular cars on the market right now so he had to call over 15 dealers to find it for us. I bought my first car from this dealership. Great car. But when I go in for an oil change, engine check, or even to fix a damage, they never listen to me!!!!!! I tell them to give me a call with an estimate and diagnostic, no, no call. Just a simple voicemail saying my car is already finished without telling me what they did. Then when I go to call them back, no answer. Also I agree that the service depart takes ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE. They serviced my car and when they were finished I never received a diagnostic before hand and they charged me an oil change when I did not specify that I want it done nor did the service rep say it needed to be done. The service was shit and they charged me fucking 50$ for a stupid gas cap that was faulty when I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THEM!!!!!! NEVER GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP. read more

We took our Civic in a few months ago to have the 15,000 mile service done, get a Recall notice item checked, and replace a key fob that had died. Trying to get an appointment was a nightmare, that should have been my first clue to stay away. When we got the car back, they said they had not rotated the tires because something was wrong with the run-out....the what? No explanation, poor follow-up from Ocean, even with me calling and asking what they meant, and they still charged us for the rotation! Eventually we got new tires on the car at Costco, and they explained in two sentences what these idiots could not figure out how to explain to me. Fast forward to last week...we decided (against our better judgement) to take the car in for it's scheduled oil change. Called for appointment, no problems. But the dealership FAILED TO TELL US THEY MOVED! So hubby drove all the way over to the old location, found an empty lot, then had to drive home b/c he didn't have his cell. When we called, they said we could still bring it in, but would have to leave the car all day (for an oil change?). No thanks. We're done with Ocean. read more

I had made a deal, put down a large deposit, and was told (in writing) that the remainder of my current lease would be covered. Went in to sign final papers and was told they would not be covering my lease. I walked away because they lied to me and broke our deal. I then had to chase my deposit, with multiple phone calls and e-mails to the manager with no response. I finally had to get my deposit back through Finance. It's a den of snakes. Searched long and hard for a Honda with very specific features and color.Ocean Honda's website implied they had the specific car I wanted. I called and spoke to Chris O'Connell, who assured me they had it for sale. He encouraged me to drive the two hours (in the rain yesterday) to come buy the car that "had my name on it." I even called back and verified that they did have this vehicle RIGHT NOW, on the lot. I was told, "I'm looking at it right now, here on the lot, out in front.". I got there, just to immediately passed off to a different person and to be told they actually didn't have the car I wanted. They offered to show me a different one. I had told him before that I'd already looked at one of these cars and test driven...that I was coming to BUY, not look. this guy totally LIED to me, directly, on two different phone calls. It was just a ploy to get me into the dealership to sell me a car I didn't want. They started scrambling, offering to order it for me or deliver it to me (which I could have done already at my local dealership). The feedback for their lies: I rejected ALL their offers and drove on to Honda of Oakland where I bought my desired car. I just purchased my 2014 Honda Accord from Ken Wylie. If I had read the reviews online prior to the purchase I would never had visited Ocean Honda. However, thanks to several close friends refferals, we decided to pay the place a visit. Although the transaction took over 4 hours to complete, I felt that we overall came out ahead. I realize that we could have found the vehichle at a better rate elsewhere, but decided to stay local, and take advantage of the free car washes and conveninece of the service shop being near by. Ken did everything he could to make sure we were content and had all of our questions answered. Chris OConnel the GM even came out to ensure we were being taken care of, along with a few other gentleman. If you have never purchased car before, do your research in advance. Know how much the vehicle costs, determine whether buying or leasing is better for you and come in knowing your stuff. I find that knowing the right language gets you much further with less hassle.Otherwise you will just have to believe what your told and that's never good. Secondly, at Ocean Honda, the car salesman act as middle men when processing the transactions. They get all the information from you and then work with other team members/managers in creating a deal. It feels a little unnecessary, when you could just go to these people directly, but that is how they function at Ocean Honda, so be prepared and patient. My family all owns Hondas bought by this dealership- father, mother, brother. I have a 2016 Honda Civic I brought from this dealership and have been having problems with both back door locks malfunctioning and the battery dying. When I went to ask about it I looked around the lot for another car-- out of curiosity with the possibility of getting the one I have off my hands. I approached a car salesman and asked about the price of one of the vehicles (while with my son) the salesman replied to me "you don't look old enough to have a car that nice" and " you can't afford that car" while laughing at me. This experience was upsetting for me but even more so for my son who has brought it up the last 2 days since it happened. It is hard to have such a upsetting experience at a business that has made buying cars for my family so enjoyable. read more

To make a long story short...buy your Honda ANYWHERE else! These guys pulled a classic bait and switch on us. We had to purchase at this dealership because of our bank's car-buying program. We were given the bottom line price IN WRITING via email including all taxes and fees ahead of time. Riiggghhhht. When we arrived to purchase our CRV all of the sudden the price was $1,000 more than what was promised. They came up with some kind of "incentives" that we didn't qualify for. There was NO mention of incentives prior to getting us into the sales office. We were stuck between a rock and a hard place...had to purchase from Ocean Honda because they were the only local dealership participating in our bank's program, but we walked out of there with a feeling of being cheated and lied to. They didn't seem to care how we felt, just that we signed on the bottom line. When we returned the next day to talk with Chris O'Connell who had given us the written quote for the lower price he just shrugged his shoulders and said "what's the problem" and refused to honor the price he personally had quoted us. I can't belive the Cappo family who owns this dealership allows folks such as Chris O'Connell and the other manager (didn't get his name) to represent their business. Or perhaps that's the way they train all of their employees. Please read the other 1-star reviews from folks who bought their car here...you'll see the same name come up over and over again with the same kind of method of operation...do anything to get the customer in the door, even if you have to lie to them. read more

Ocean Honda Service Takes Advantage of Customers!! I called the service department requesting a 90 k service .. I was quoted a price and brought the car in after hours to be worked on in the morning. I made the mistake of not ask what is involved in the service and was not given any document explaining what was involved. When my wife came to pick up the car, the tech I spoke with in service gave her a bill for $300 plus more than the verbal estimate. This prompted me to call around to other dealers to ask what they would charge for a 90 k service. Come to find out there is no 90 k service on this car.. You complete things as they come up as codes on your dash. The tech at ocean Honda flushed the transmission fluid, flushed the power steering fluid, flushed the brake fluid, changed the oil, and rotated the tires.. They wanted over $700 for this. Not only was i misled, but I would never flush brakes and power steering fluid on a 2007.. They took advantage of the situation. I can say the tech did take the extra charges off and charged me the original verbal estimate, but I will never go back. Beware! read more

This Yelp is long overdue. I would like to thank Steven Zigman for excellent service purchasing a Honda a few months back. I absolutely hate shopping for cars, I'd rather have a colonoscopy than hunt and haggle for a vehicle. Steven Zigman changed all that. Steven Zigman was able to keep the process pleasant and I was happy to drive off the lot with a great vehicle. Steven even kept in contact to assure we are enjoying our vehicle. Whatever you buy in this world there might be a problem with the product and we did have an issue with our vehicle. Steven was call and he immediately drove to the location my wife was stranded and took care of the issue, staying with her until our new car was driven to Ocean. Ocean Honda corrected the problem immediately and was very apologetic. Steven Zigman and Ocean Honda could have said "too bad" leaving us to fight to fix the car ... but they did not! That is a five star service. I will again visit Steven Zigman to buy my next car. read more
