We stayed at the Captain's House, and our room featured views of the harbor. The room itself was clean, cozy, and comfortable with effective air conditioning. When we went, the nights were chilly, but not to worry- the bathroom had its own effective heat. Our bed was comfortable, and the bedding ensured a good night's sleep. Our building has a "common area" with comfortable seating and a view of the harbor. It also has a porch where we relaxed to a good book. The facility features the excellent Harborview Bistro, where our complimentary breakfast was served. I especially liked the french toast with lemon and ricotta cheese, and the crispy bacon sides. Although the breakfasts were very good, I do wish for a few alternate healthy selections, such as yogurt, granola and even oatmeal. We still really enjoyed our stay here, and the staff made our anniversary special. We hope to return some day.

There are not a lot of places to stay on Mohican Island. But one place that you should definitely…read morescope out is the island in. It has been around for many years. It did change ownership's this year, I met Mike the farmer owner and he was very gracious And I'm sure he ran a great in. The current owners are doing a magnificent job as well. I unfortunately do not know the name of the woman who works the front desk. I am sorry for that because I would like to give her a big shout out. She was most gracious and very helpful every time I had a question. We got two rooms. My friend stayed in room 18 which has its own bath and a queen size bed. It was lovely and it was on a corner so she had two windows. I stayed in room 13 it had two twin beds and a sink in the room but the shower and toilet were across the hall. I've stated other places where you have to share a bathroom and this end was different in that the Bathrooms were assigned and only two guest rooms shared each bathroom. My bathroom was never occupied. I'm not sure anybody was in the room that shared my bathroom but if they were, I never saw them. As you do have to walk across the hall to get to your shared bathroom, guest robes were provided. The bed was comfy. You could open the window and enjoy the island breeze. The room, both my guestroom and the bathroom were very clean. One thing that was surprising given the age of the building and that the hotel was pretty full was that it was quiet. I've never heard anyone outside my room or really any noise at all. There are several small rooms off the lobby, where you can sit and read or just enjoy an intimate conversation. All the furniture looked to be in good shape. Nothing was shabby or worn out. There is a porch out in front of the Inn that overlooks the water. It has rocking chairs on the porch and Adirondack chairs out in the yard. It is lovely. Unfortunately it was a rainy day. The first day we were there, but that didn't deter us from exploring the island. The hotel has a refrigerator where you can place your own bottle of wine or anything you need to put in there. But it is a bit tight so don't expect that you're going to put a lot of food in there. The Inn has a restaurant and I'm going to review that separately. Breakfast was included. I would definitely stay here again if overnighting on Mohegan Island..

She offered another cocktail but then charge me for it. Cocktails were delicious but disingenuous. They filled the tiny tumbler on an angle with water and froze it so only about 3 ounces of fit and charged $17 for it. We have no problem paying for a quality crafted cocktail that actually has a mouth full in it. I ordered the gnocchi and my husband had the hanger steak and it was served with fries ...????.. really fries served with dinner at a restaurant purporting itself to be fine dining. We've been fortunate enough to dine in many places through the US and abroad that were elevated to Michelin starred so possibly we should've adjusted our expectations as after three months staying through out the entire state, we had yet to be moved by a meal and remain so. I got a hand pie (was supposed to be the cheeseburger, but ended up with the sweet potato) and a lemonade. The hand pie was amazing, with fresh, flaky crust and wonderful filling...no regrets on the flavor mix-up. I should note the size was more of a turnover/appetizer so not enough to make a meal. The lemonade was fresh and refreshing, though it was more on the tart side so plan to add sugar if you like yours on the sweeter side. For something sweet I tried the brownie and it was really good if not overly moist, something closer to a flourless torte. Like most things on the island the prices weren't cheap, but the quality was there so I'd definitely recommend trying this place out for baked goods or a nice snack.

It made our entire stay happier to have the beautiful Christmas trees and lots of decorations. Our rooms were large and comfortable, and the bathrooms were also quite large. Everything was SO comfortable. Ashley, the manager, was delightful and helpful. The location is in a quiet neighborhood that is just a few minutes walk to downtown Rockland, which was filled with nice places to shop, eat, drink, and even had a chocolate factory! My husband and I stayed with our cocker-spaniel this June (2017) at the JSH Inn. We got along very well with Susan, who is funny and amiable - she even offered to pet sit our dog so we could have an elegant dinner right across the road at The Island Inn! She was an amazing host. Maybe next time we will get to meet her husband Mark. The JSH inn is very conveniently located both to the harbor and to Main St on Monhegan Island. The almost 300-year-old inn was gut renovated in 2005. It is neat and tidy, authentic in design, pro-conservation and cheerful. Susan was incredibly hospitable and helpful, as her knowledge comes from generations of living on the island (during the warm part of the year). In the rooms, you will find authentic touches including old photos of the inn and windows dressed with charming lace curtains. Be on the lookout for small thoughtful luxuries, including a tiny dish of chocolate kisses and a vase of freshly cut purple lupines. I would recommend this inn for couples, singles, and families of a gentle and polite disposition. I'll be back!

The person at the front desk named Jeremy was extremely rude and we ended up leaving the hotel without staying. Daniel (the other person at the front desk) was nice and much more pleasant to deal with. We do not recommend this hotel as we find the attitude in general being too rude (it is not only the north east attitude, we lived in the northeast for decades. This was way worse). Again though, thanks Daniel for being nice and helping us with our refund. For Jeremy: learn a thing or two about customer relations.
