for an expensive resort, I was disappointed with the amount of children centric focus, yes it's summer but yelling down hallways, doors slamming, playing outside the balconies. there is a dedicated kids playground but apparently letting children anywhere is fine. not hotels fault but geez people try some consideration for others. looking forward to pool but entire pool is 5' depth max making it great for kids, and staff passing out balls to play with thus football being thrown in pool. no deep end at all for adults to hang towards. even with beautiful view all loungers look at pool. sigh.. it would be nice to have adult wing or even 5-7 pm adult time for pool. dinner was average at best. room was very very nice ., just sad to be one sided to families only. have to book spa 2 weeks prior so can't use that either read more

We came for the ice bar. The place was packed with hundreds of people enjoying all the festivities. The grounds were beautiful, ice sculptures everywhere, heat towers &igloos. Landscaping adorned with lights. A very nice experience. We decided not to eat there & went elsewhere. The menus looked awesome as I watched some people enjoy their appetizers. Came for Ice Bar 2025 and it did not disappoint! Always such a fun winter event in the Rockland area with special drinks and snacks and a kick-ass DJ who kept the dance floor packed! Needing to kill a few hours before dinner, our party of four opted to check out the bar at the Samoset Resort. There was an ulterior motive - my friends are interested in using the Samoset for their wedding reception. The bar area is nice, old school, with marble countertops and comfortable bar stools. Ditto for Thomas, bartender extraordinaire, who expertly mixed our adult libations and held forth on a variety of topics as we peppered him with questions. And the views of the grounds are amazing. We ordered one of their GF pizzas as a snack, with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil -- and it was delicious. Perfect with our sparkling Cubans, the specialty cocktail of the day. read more

Again we checked in yesterday for our first visit here and have been to other highly rated resorts such as The Castle Hill Inn in Newport and Ocean House in Watch Hill, both in Rhode Island. We are pleasantly surprised considering it is the COVID-19 pandemic and staffing shortages are all over our country. Spent a week at the Samoset as a second honeymoon. Overall, very good. Not sure it was worth the price, but very good. We booked a hot tub suite with a view of the ocean. That was amazing. The room was clean, comfortable. Bathroom is big enough to have a party in. Hot tub was clean and well maintained. The staff was great. Everyone was friendly, happy to be there. This resort, while it claims other attractions, is mostly for golfers. If you like golf, awesome. They offer many other lawn activities, but most are hardly used. We're never did find the croquet court (which was a selling point for my wife.) The bad stuff: Resort is pricey, all the way around. Because of the pandemic, we ordered room service a lot. This was a big disappointment. When you think "Fancy hotel room service" you kind of expect, say, plates. Maybe real flatware. Not cardboard takeout containers and little single serve packets of plastic cutlery served in a paper bag. Seriously, I want a rolling cart with stainless steel food lids! But seriously, those are pretty minor things. We really enjoyed our stay, the food was very good, the room was perfect. The hike out to the lighthouse was worth the time, and the resort is beautiful. If you can afford it, worth it. All told, Samoset resort gets a very good 4 stars. read more

Ugh. We are staying in the timeshare section and are paying $700/night for Motel 6 level accommodations. They even neglected to provide shampoo and the last time the place looks to have been renovated was when Elvis was in his prime. NOT recommended. So glad we are only staying one night. Don't take my word for it. I have uploaded photos so that you can see for yourself. Cell reception here is extremely poor and unfortunately WiFi is barely acceptable, so it has taken several attempts just to upload this review with photos. The appliances are white, because stainless steel is so passé nowadays. The brand is Haier, because if it's good enough to sell at Walmart, it's good enough for a 4 diamond resort. I walked into 4 buildings just to find a vending machine that still had water in it. I wasn't successful. I finally went to the hotel lobby where they were kind enough to give me two bottles for free. I'm currently laying on a pullout mattress in the living room listening to the loud tick tick ticking of the 80s style clock. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I'm having trouble suppressing the feeling that I will be featured on the next episode of Stranger Things... or maybe Quantum Leap, for those of you old enough to remember it. read more

We a beautiful gem in our own backyard. We spent a lovely anniversary weekend at this amazing seaside oasis. I had a few bumps in the road but with the Grace a style of a high end resort they made it a pleasant stay by accommodating our needs admitting their missed opportunity to shine and rectifying those missed opportunities . We hesitated to vacation during Covid out of causation for our health. You made us want to come back. Incredibly disappointed in my experience- I've never had a massage start on your back and leave you there for over half the time - while a bright light from the window to the hallway shone in and my masseuses cold hands attempted to massage my back...while I laid on it. Eventually was turned to my stomach and it was pleasant but didn't have much time left. Giving two stars because my husband had the opposite experience started on his stomach spent the majority of the time there and his masseuse spent a long time on his problem areas ending with a short time on his back. I got to play here a couple years ago while on vacation and absolutely loved it. I didn't stay at the resort, but my family dropped me off to play a round while they went to a couple local breweries and hung out by the water. Samoset is so beautiful and the course remains one of my favorites that I've played in my life. Everyone was really friendly and the holes following along the water with the rugged Maine coastline made the course feel like the Atlantic version of a course like Pebble Beach. Of anyone is vacationing near the area, I highly recommend bringing your golf clubs and playing this course! read more

I cannot express how memorable this experience will be. The ambiance, rooms views and everything about the place is awesome. I say this having visited at the end of season. We played goldfish, walked the breakwater, ate, sat by the fire. J says the bed is better than ours at home. LOL also I promise no one can see in the room during daytime so enjoy an intimate moment with the sounds of the ocean. Just saying it's worth the risk. I visited this place for a conference in 2007 and vowed to come back. Many trials and tribulations later and I finally made it back. Boy, what a fantastic time I had at the Samoset Resort during a conference. When I arrived on Sunday to check in I was immediately greeted at the desk and told that the resort was providing me an upgrade to a room with a waterfront view and what a view it was. The room itself was a corner room and was awesome. I had a king size bed with a couch in a sitting area with a microwave, mini fridge and a large Samsung TV. So, Samoset does this wonderful glacier ice bar with an actual ice bar, carved ice sculptures ,warming stations , fire pits with very limited seating, and this year, it was very very cold on this past Saturday night, but quite lovely overall. It's smaller than I anticipated. I felt sorry for the bartender who had to keep his hands glove free. Tip him well. The cocktails are expensive, but the snowshoe is very tasty. Beer was frozen don't waste your $9. Go very early as parking can suck. We got lucky, after driving around a while.The bar looks bigger on the website, but well worth an hour or two of your time. Do not waste your money! I had a facial today and it was underwhelming. I paid $198 for a basic 60 min facial and there was a 20% mandatory gratuity included... Samantha, the esthetician was OK. The experience felt more like a bath. The towels she used during the facial were soaking wet. My chest and hair were completely wet. Not moist, wet! They claim they do "extraction". This is a lie. She used some weird device that did not do anything. I had to point to the areas where she should have focused. She reluctantly did it. I came home and looked closely and nothing was "extracted"! While she washed my faced, and applied oil, she did not even cover my hair. I came out and had to wash my hair which defeats the purpose of getting a facial... This took place on a Sunday, off season, and they could not even put toilet paper in the toilet. The water for the team was tepid... Leftover empty glasses were everywhere in the waiting room... Frankly, one would expect that for that price they would attend to details. Again, do not waste your money. read more

Everything about Samoset is summed up the minute you drive up to the front door. You drive up to the front door, you get out of your car and then you look at the three (count em...three) guys standing by the valet stand. They look at you. You look at them as if to say, "you guys gonna help us?" They look at you as if to say, "y'all don't need any help, do you?" After this mental Mexican standoff, I actually have to say...to the valet guys..."can you valet my car?" And they spring into action. Well, at least one of them did. The other two walked around as we pulled our luggage out of the car. I didn't ask them to help with the luggage and they didn't offer. I'm a quick learner. This place has all the amenities. It just have none of the people employed or trained to make the amenities and the whole experience enjoyable. We had no hot water one morning. A smelly room. Friends who had flooding and no electricity in their rooms. Mediocre food. And employees who did not hide their contempt for the people in our group. This is a rudderless ship that gets by...well, I don't know how the hell it gets by. This place just flat sucks and I wouldn't go back if you paid me. Big frowny face read more

Worst cancellation policy ever. Be aware! We had an emergency and had to cancel within the policy's time frame. No refund would be honored based on their policy. I understand and respect that. They offered me a one-time rebooking for a room at the same or higher rate. I asked, explicitly, if something came up again, if I had to cancel or move the date, would I be able to be refunded? The representative said yes, but you would surrender the difference of cost - so about $30 in this case. Lo and behold, something came up, and I have to cancel our reservation. There is no guarantee that the initial phone call was recorded, so I am left with my word against the notes - and the notes in their system do not reflect what was communicated to me. They are unable to rectify, remedy, offer, refund any part of the rate. We're out of nearly $800 and can do nothing about it. read more

Stayed here for a family wedding. Weather was bad all 3 days 2 nights along with a power outage in area on July 3rd at 7:30 AM. Was looking forward to doing outdoor activities. Had nice view of pool. Room did have outside porch to sit on, but could not use due to drizzle and cold east wind in month of July. That I blame mother nature on, not hotel. What I do blame hotel on is security of room I had. Deadbolt on door did not work correctly. Front desk took a look and agreed with me. I was informed that maintenance would look at this matter next day. Next day came and went, was not fixed. Checked out of hotel, told front desk that problem was not fixed. Front desk only gave me an I'm sorry. So much for the hotel giving a discount for a room that was over 300 dollars a night. FYI, if you get room 344 at this hotel, check the deadbolt lock to see if it was fixed. read more

After a very long 6+ hour drive to get there, the view upon check in is absolutely breathtaking and erased any negative thought I had about how long it took to get there. The views an indescribable. The newly redone pool (2-3 yrs) is wonderful! The staff is kind and the accommodations are fine. The biggest mistake they made is changing their main restaurant from Maine fare/seafood focused to Italian several years ago. Who wants to come to Maine and have Italian??? So, we don't eat onsite other than the Clubhouse, but enjoy the golf, views, pool, sports!! At the pool, the drinks are good - good beers, great twisted lemonade for the kids, and a refreshing agave limeade for me on a very hot day at the pool! Really, stick to the location, golf, views and accommodations - we ordered food at the pool and it was almost inedible. If we hadn't spent such a ridiculous amount on it, we would have just left it. The crab/lobster dip wasn't good - was a pre-done crab dip that they at least put real lobster on top of. My daughter's sliders were so burnt that it was gross - we tore off the most burned parts to try and salvage - see below for the "better" part. The lobster roll at the clubhouse is the best up and down the coast. HUGE amount of fresh lobster, flavorful and a great value! Similar in price to all other places and much better quality with significantly more lobster. Don't order this at the pool - it's not the same! I wish I could give 4.5 stars because the actual pool is lovely - the only negative we've had during our stay is the pool food. read more

BEWARE BEFORE BOOKING! We are appalled at the insensitivity and terrible customer service of this resort. We had an unexpected life change that required us to try to cancel our trip. We called to cancel over two weeks before we were scheduled to check in. After several days of waiting for a response, they say they will not allow us to cancel because we advance paid and will not issue a refund or a credit for us to come at a later date. We are continuing to contest this. We will update the post if the resort decides to come to their senses, realize this is an unpredictable and unprecedented time, and issue us a refund. The view of Penobscot Bay was constantly observed throughout the whole stay whether at the pool, restaurant area, lobby, or golf course. Employees were very friendly in providing great service. Let's say, 3.5 stars. I stayed at the Samoset Resort for two nights on business and it was a pleasant experience. I found my room to be very clean and cozy, with the added bonus of a harbor view. The beds were super comfy, with feathertop mattresses and plush pillows. The resort didn't offer much in the way of entertainment outside of golf, but the scenery was very pretty and a path on the grounds led to a rocky strip that went straight out to a lighthouse. The staff members I encountered during my stay were all friendly and helpful. The banquet services department took care of everything in the exhibit hall, from consistently refreshing coffee stations to making sure all shipments were taken care of. Overall, it was a nice visit and a great location for a small to midsize conference. read more

The samoset is open only on weekends in the winter which is perfect for events. Otherwise this is a summer destination. We came as a large group for a wedding and spent the weekend there. We rented about ten rooms and a venue for the ceremony and reception. Very few of the rooms were close together or even on the same floor. Most of us were on the end with no view but had a balcony to see the closed swimming pool. The bed was large and comfy with soft cozy bedding. The pillow I felt like goldilocks trying to find one not too form or too soft and never found the perfect one. The rooms have a 90s modern look. I did find someone else's melted ice cream in the fridge. The bathrooms have the worst door design ever. It is a large sink and mirror and then a tiny room with shower and toiled and a door that opens in so you have to almost be in the shower to even close it. There is room service available and even a breakfast menu to put out the night before with delivery times. The rehearsal for the wedding was the most disorganized I have ever seen. Partly from everyone talking and the other part from the event coordinator. This could have been her first event ever. Throughout the two days whenever she was asked about anything going on you got the brush off unless you were the bride or a fake smile. The cash bar provided for the event was bud bud light two red and two white wines and four low end liquors. The bartender couldn't make a decent drink to save her life. They were strong enough to wake the dead and never improved. The served meal was decent depending on the dish you selected. The salmon was moist and tasty with a nice sauce. The chicken was so dry drowning it in butter couldn't even help. The servers were pleasant but served many guest before the bride and groom. They were conscientious about diet needs if they know ahead of time. They do host a wonderful event there every year and we had the pleasure of the ice bar going on during our weekend there. This was a very cool event. They spent time carving an entire bar with stools and shot luge. This year was a pirate theme. There were glorious ice sculptures some you could even pose in. They offered a selection of unique cocktails at the ice bar or you could order your preferred beverage at the bar inside. The Avalanche adult hot cocoa was just the thing to warm you up. They offer wood fireplaces with Adirondack chairs to warm up by in a few places slightly away from all the ice. It was a nice little escape to relax and chat and enjoy the view of the ocean and the glow of the ice. read more

Hotel room overlooking the pool and ocean was spacious and clean and has marble counters, a stand-up shower and a big hot tub. This was our third visit to Samoset. We truly enjoy coming here. The view is priceless. It actually seems as if you're looking at a painting. We have always visited in August and the weather was been perfect. We spend our days at the pool lounging around and have drinks and food from the outside bar. We always enjoy sitting in the pool or hot tub and meeting all the other nice guests. Each visit we have walked out to the lighthouse via the breakwater. All three visits we dined at Primo. The food has been amazing and we always enjoy a stroll at the farm located right on their property. This visit we also ate pizza and antipasto at the resorts restaurant. We sat outside and not only enjoyed the food but the great outside dining accommodations. We will definitely visit again! read more

For the amount we paid, this fell short of just about every expectation. I completely understand that it'll take longer to disinfect rooms during COVID--that wasn't a problem at all--but what I don't understand is why there still wasn't hand soap in our room after a two-hour wait, and why we had to wait another two hours after calling the front desk, until the concierge finally brought the hand soap down himself. In the meantime, we got a free drink ticket to go down to the bar, where the host stopped us at the door to demand whether we had a reservation or not and told us we couldn't go out to the deck. We then watched family after family go out to the deck without being stopped. (Was this because we were the darkest ones in the hotel? Or because we're a gay couple? Or because we weren't wearing Lacoste polos? Or because the host simply felt like being a dick? Who knows!) Also, don't believe what they say on the website about there being kayaking and paddle boarding activities. When we asked the concierge about kayaking, he said there were no activities on-site other than golfing and the pool, and that we'd have to go to another town to rent a single kayak for $50 a day. (Come on, this is mid-coast Maine, not the Hamptons.) We didn't get housekeeping a single day we were there--unclear whether this was because of COVID or not. The trim in the bathroom is chipped and breaking down, there was mold on the shower curtain, and there was grime in the shower itself. Overall, we were unimpressed. Next time we'll spend the same amount on a nice Airbnb with a kayak on-site. read more

I had a business meeting that I extended the stay a few days so my wife and I could enjoy the Maine coast. We have vacationed before in maine but always inland on a lake with short day trips to the ocean - so an opportunity to enjoy the coast!! So the view is spectacular. We enjoyed the walk to the lighthouse along the jetty We wish the ocean side was more developed for ease of access by guests of the hotel on the hotel property! The restaurant downstairs is really many different venues sharing a menu.You can be dining room or bar or outside - we tried the all and enjoyed them all. The food was good, sometime very good and reasonably priced. I will say the Fig and Pear salad should be renamed the 1/2 Fig and Pear. We were having lunch with friends, one who ordered salad with beets. So she shared a beet with me and I shared a fig, or I should say 1/2 of a fig, with her. To my chagrin as I ate my very tasty salad - there was no more fig. That just drove me crazy! I played golf and the course is beautiful! I wish we had figured out that they offer night tours of the grounds to see the many wonderful views - the gardens are fantastic. I lamented many a night they should have a lighted path to the ocean for guest to walk and enjoy. We were lucky to get a end room with a walk-out deck and a beautiful view. I will tell you other rooms with the triangle angle to the ocean would not have been as well received. Love fireplaces and fire pits - do not like it when the are gas lit. Just me. At the end of the day what made this a wonderful stay was the staff. From the moment we walked in the doorman, front desk (thank-you both for making us welcome at 11pm at night when we arrived so tired), service folk and wait staff we all very friendly, helpful and caring. Well one exception for a hostess at the restaurant who did not like I came in from the outside not to the desk - "do we have reservations" she asked in a tone - well I am a guest here an no one suggested I might not be able here eat there! That one blip aside, I think the service overall was best in class - especially the bartenders and the outside wait staff. I asked parking valet for recommendations about local places to eat and visit - they were super to talk to and very dedicated to the hotel and making sure we were happy. They were the best of the best out front. For that reason - we hope to go back! We need to get more pool time!! read more

I landed in Portland and the drive to here was phenomenal. The views are terrific, and even more amazing when I got here. Going into the offers a whole bunch of great dining options, but it's tough to justify leaving the resort. The rooms are clean and large. The bedspreads are a little thin, but it is still comfortable. The bathrooms are awesome with fast hot water, and the staff are friendly. The walls are a bit thin, but all in all the rest of the experience makes up for it. The golf course, the quaint lighthouse, the whole package is really a great place to go to relax. read more

I have very mixed feelings about the Samoset. In some ways it was a great hotel, in others it was extremely lacking. Truth be told, I would stay there again as it is the best hotel/resort in the area but there is room for improvement. I will start with the positives - the staff was terrific. The front desk and valet were helpful and extremely cheerful. The concierge was amazingly helpful. She made great restaurant suggestions. The pools were great and very clean. We loved the beach-like entry. The pool staff was also terrific. The restaurant and spa were great too. The rooms were beautifully appointed. The bathroom was huge with a big soaking tub and separate shower. On to the "room for improvement" section. The rooms are not soundproofed. We heard our neighbors smart phone ringing and receiving text messages all night long. Our bathroom was carpeted which was lovely to look at but the odor.... OMG it stuck to high heaven of mold. Who puts permanent carpet in a bathroom? Yuck! Also, such a luxuriously appointed bathroom should have some sort of padded bench so their young guests can wash their hands after using the facilities. Every time my 2 daughter used the bathroom, I had to lift them up so they could wash their hands. The shuttle to Lobsterfest was unreliable. First the driver told us he would be there ever half hour to take people back to the hotel. When the shuttle didn't arrived, the front desk told me it is every hour at the 30 mark. Turns out that isn't accurate either. The driver makes the pick-up right after the drop-off. He doesn't wait around to the 30 mark. He leaves whenever he gets a few people on the shuttle (could be quarter passed the hour). We ended up waiting in a Rite Aid parking lot for an hour and 15 minutes with 2 young children. Hopefully the Samoset will get their act together for our next visit to Maine. read more

Our room was spotless. The robes were cushy and will definitely be ordered from their website. As to be expected anywhere near a coast, the wallpaper behind the toilet was coming loose, but that was the only thing that was not perfect. The night sky was beautiful. The walk to the lighthouse was relaxing. Breakfast and dinner were delicious from the on site restaurant. I cannot wait for another opportunity to visit again. read more
