We took the deluxe 3.5 hour dophin/whale watching, snorkeling and sightseeing tour aboard the Kai 'Oli'Oli that took us up the entire Waianae coast, from Ko 'Olina Marina to the northernmost tip of the coast, Ka'ena Point. While the boat was very nice and spacious, and the staff was super friendly, the tour was pretty pricey at $120/person. It did include a buffet lunch of macaroni salad, rice, pineapple, kahlua pork and BBQ chicken and drinks (soda and Hawaiian Sun, plus beer, wine, mai tais and margaritas). There was also snorkeling gear provided. The waters at Electric Beach were so murky though, that we couldn't really see much, and the variety of fish was not that exciting. We did see dophins and whales swimming nearby, but didn't get to swim with them. I highly recommend going with Dolphin Excursions instead if you want to swim with dolphins (check out my review). They both take you along the same route along the Waianae coast. Or if you want a real thrill, I heard that Shark Encounters (get lowered in a cage into shark infested ocean waters) is amazing. Though, I have a strong fear of sharks thanks to Jaws, so that was crossed off the list. Remember, if you get seasick, take Bonine/Dramamine at least an hour in advance! read more

Great crew, great sights, pretty good food, strong drinks, decent snorkeling area. My Mom & I took this trip on my last day in Oahu. What a way to end my trip! I chose this trip over some others because of 2 simple things: Bathrooms & shade. The food & mai tai's also played into it a little bit. We did see other boats out there while we were snorkeling & I'd say that Ocean Joy has the largest & nicest of them all. I don't know about the other crews but ours was great! Unfortunately the weather was overcast & rainy at times but we still had a great time, unlike some of our shipmates. My Mom & I couldn't help but notice all the sourpuss mugs! We just love making fun of people who look miserable in such gorgeous settings. Come on, is life that terrible? People started to lighten up after the drinks started flowing, which unfortunately was only about 30 minutes before we docked. I did manage to suck down 3 of 'em though! read more

I'm not sure about the negative reviews on here. Its nature, how you expect to see turtles, dolphins, whales, and fish is beyond me. Is it possible to see them all? Of course. Could it end up being a just boat ride? Sure. Anyways. It's my gf first time back home with me so I wanted to take her on this trip. She was so excited. I told her what ever we see or dont see, lets have a good time. This became one of the highlights so far on this trip for her. Tip #1 Drive yourself if possible. We drove to Ko Olina instead of taking the bus, best 10 bux spent (Cost to park at the dock). You wake up when you want and get there as early as you like. When the trip is done take off when the trip is done or stop by the other lagoons for a dip. Tip #2 Treat people like you want to be treated. Yes you paid, but why be a pushy jerk or douche. The crew knows how many people are on board and verify multiple times that everyone has what they need. You are not going to be left out. Chill and wait till they get to you. The crew is awesome from check in, to folks on the boat, to captain Patrick. We have nothing but good things to say about them. Polite, friendly, and fun. They were even polite to the couple of pushy folks on our trip. Chill folks you're on vacation. Tip #3 When you board take a seat near a rail and chill for the ride. We were fortunate that the ride out (the Morning Calm 8a-1245p) yielded dolphins, turtles, flying fish, and clear waters. If was funny to see everyone running to each side trying to take pics of nature in action. Like ping pong ballz...ahhaha Captain Patrick knows what he's doing. He maneuvered the boat so that all sides could get a view and pics, if those folks had stayed put they could have had better shots than over someone's head. We were almost last to get on, no one was in the front middle of the boat. That's where we headed. Once out of the no wake zone, we kicked our feet off the side of the boat and watched as the coast went flying past us. We were able to snorkel for around 45 minutes. My gf was the first to see a large turtle at about 5 yards out from us. We snapped some great pics and let it swim off. Once "turtle" was called out many of the group started to swim quickly to it. I'm not sure what happens in folks minds when they see wildlife, but it was clearly stated to stay a few yards away from them. We watched folks trying to swim up and grab and touch it. Saddened by this we swam away to look at other parts of the reef. The crewmember that was the lifeguard for this trip corrected them once she saw what was going on. There was also tons of fish at the Makaha beach spot we stopped at. Lunch provided was warm; buns, pork, rice, some kind of pasta salad, teri chicken, and pineapple. Once everyone ran though the line once there was enough for seconds if you wanted. They also provided free juice and soda during the whole trip. Drinks with alcohol were given after snorkeling. As many as you could down on the trip back. Tip #4 Bring an underwater camera if possible. Our trip was full 44 folks. While the crew does take pics, the show ends up being of everyone. We were in about 4 pics from the boat camera, but about 100 from our own. Great shots underwater and all with just a little planning. Tip #5 Bring cash to leave a tip and thank the crew when leaving. In all this was a great trip and we appreciate the effort the crew and captain put in to our time! read more

This cruise was amazing! We saw so many whales and snorkeling was fun. Everyone on the crew was so friendly and helpful. One of the girls, "T", was so positive and she made the best drinks, called T's Mai Tais. The only downfall was the captain, i forgot his name. He was funny but many passengers got sea sick because the way he was driving the boat, including myself. I still recommend this cruise though! read more

Went out this week while on vacation, was the best day of the entire week (and we did alot) The crew is relaxed and fun, the boat ride was so enjoyable, slow cruising speed, found a whole clan spinner dolphins, took some pics and videos, then got ready to snorkle, was out first time, again the crew made the entire process as easy as possible. Excellent in every way. Boat was in excellent condition, with space for the 18 guests and the 4 crew to enjoy the morning cruise, dolphin watching, and snorkeling. Captain Patrick and crew were outstanding hosts. they took very good care of everyone from the time we checked in until we left the marina. a wide variety of beverages, including mixed drinks, soda, juices. food was delicious, obviously via a caterer: pulled port, huli chicken, rice, rolls, salad, and bread pudding. if you are wanting a morning of relaxing boating, snorkeling, and sunshine (west side location is typically sunnier and dryer than other parts of Oahu), than this is the excursion for you. we departed promptly at 8 and returned at 11:30. we saw sea turtles and dolphins. Snorkeling is fun, but not much to see. water is crystal clear. And the small size of the group on the boat is much more enjoyable than the larger "cattle call" trips. And the photographer is excellent, taking pics all morning, even some under water pics during the snorkeling. read more

It was nice day out! Booking was easy, ALL staff was friendly and very hospitable. We got the morning tour and it was fun! Boat was clean and not crowded. They offered morning snacks, coffee and some refreshments. Snorkeling for at least an hour - saw fishes, turtles and dolphins. Then they provided lunch w/ drinks (cocktails, beers, everything!) I want to give the Kai oli oli group through ocean joy the best review that I possibly can! Their service was genuine, definitely didn't feel like they were out just for the money. The crew was accommodating and even helped my friend who was afraid of open water feel comfortable enough to get and experience such beauty. She was so glad she did. Their photographer was more than willing to get amazing shots of people and continue trying until you were satisfied. They catered to children all the way up to the elders, and provided extra flotation for those not as comfortable. They pointed out sea life and would direct you to it to see for yourself. The history and dolphin observations from the boat were amazing and I really respect this company for looking out for the animals safety first unlike other companies. I also admired them for stopping to attempt a rescue when in reality it was just a balloon in the water, which they still took the time to get out so the balloon wouldn't be eaten by an animal. Overall I felt like I was with friends and family, people who are very calm and knowledgeable about their locations. I would definitely come back and recommend them for all people and families. Fun but not the best experience. The boat ride was insanely rocky, and it was strange that they would serve food while going full speed ahead. People were getting sick and so were my husband and I. Food quality was just okay, definitely didn't expect Helena's on the boat but it wasn't the best. Most of the crew are friendly but some of them are clearly there to just do their job and have no desire to interact with you. It kinda dampened our excitement a bit. As for photos - out of the promised 300+ photos, you'll probably get about a fraction of them with just you and whoever you came with. They're great shots but there aren't many. Highlights of the trip were swimming with fish and seeing dolphins and sea turtles up close. However, you may not be able to swim with any of them if they don't come by. read more

I've done quite a few of these types of boat rides and this one has been my favorite by far. We saw SO many different types of animals. A pod of dolphins swam around our boat for like 10 minutes, a turtle swam by -- a different turtle even swam up to my husband and was like a yard away before he saw it, and we got to snorkel in a school of fish --they were all around us it was magical. Today was our 2 snorkeling cruise with Ocean Joy. This is bar far one of the best snorkeling cruises. Pickup is around 6:15-6:45 varies from hotel. A short 45 minutes motor coach ride to Ko'olina Park which goes through the Disney Resort and golf course. Check in at counter and then you book you boat, but not before a photo. Nice scenic tour and you will see dolphins, flying fish and sea turtles. Snorkeling last for 45-55 minutes. Upon return lunch will be served. Pulled pork sandwiches, rice, Mac salad, green salad, grilled chicken and fruit salad. One more item I forgot the Mai Tai, Blue Hawaiians, beer, can sodas, coffee and tea. I must mention the muffins for breakfast. All very good. The staff are amazing. Super friendly and very helpful. read more

Great staff. They were very helpful and accommodating. We saw plenty of dolphins, a sea turtle and even a whale shark which was the highlight. Like others have said, it was a bit crowded. I think they could make do with to maybe 10 or 12 less people at least. When a dolphin or something is spotted, everyone wants to go from one side of the boat to the other and quickly. Not a lot of space to move around especially on slippery and slopes surfaces. Otherwise it was a great trip and I'll do again the next time read more

We took a sunset cruise the other night and my kids are still raving about it. They're 18, 17 & 14 so it's tough to find things they'll want to do. The cruise was perfect! We started out following some dolphins and then went over to an area for snorkeling. There was a ton to see and plenty of time to enjoy it. After everyone got out of the water, we did a little cruising along the shore. The captain explained all the sights and his crew was friendly and provided beverages for everyone. Dinner was served with more than enough to go around. BBQ chicken and pork, macaroni salad, rice and fruit - all freshly made! After dinner, we went on deck and enjoyed a spectacular sunset and then a beautiful full moon rising. Ocean Joy also offers morning and afternoon cruises. I'm sure those are great, too, but we would do the sunset again in a heartbeat! read more

We spent an hour cruising along the coastline and found several pods of spinner dolphins. Then we spent about an hour snorkeling and saw a good variety of fish. The overall experience was filled with Aloha including the amazing Crew! However, the location of where we snorkeled was right in front of an industrial power plant, there were no coral reefs and minimal fish to view. Unfortunately we didn't see much ocean life. Entire area was not a pleasant place to snorkel. The food & drinks were ok, however they didn't offer spirits until after the snorkeling. The mixed drinks were watered down. I would recommend wine or beer. The food was ok, it was buffet style - Kahlua pork, teriyaki chicken, sticky rice, and salad. You have the option to purchase the 'picture' package, however note that it does cost $10 more if you should purchase 'after' the excursion. Overall, we felt that the cost of the Boat Tour is overpriced for the experience! read more

This snorkeling excursion was a blast!! The crew (Mason, David, Manni and Captain Jim) were so friendly and spunky! They pointed out where to look and what to do in order to make the most of the experience. The fish were so bright and pretty and the turtles were wild! My husband and I have gone out with Ocean Joy multiple times and have really enjoyed ourselves. Military and local rates offered! The crew is really friendly! We went for our first cruise in January, and they remembered us when we went back in June which made us feel all warm and fuzzy. :p We've only gone on sunset cruises, but have enjoyed all the snacks, meals and drinks provided! And they are fairly small groups which we like. I will say that the photographer is hit or miss. They still get 5 stars from me because the photographer is a separate entity from Ocean Joy as far as I know - but I would advise looking through the pictures before you decide to pay for them. One cruise we got some AMAZING photos of us snorkeling, and one time we didn't get a single photo of us...so just be aware that you can look before you buy! read more

What a great day!! Our goal for the day was to see whales and we were not disappointed! We got to see a momma whale and her baby! The baby whale was having a blast, jumping in the air, while mom just followed along. We went to the snorkeling spot which was great. Saw a turtle and lots of fish. Followed by finding dolphins. It was fantastic. The view was phenomenal. The food was delicious. The crew was so accommodating and entertaining. The weather was perfect. We bought the USB of photos for $40. My husband and I went to Hawaii for 9 days for our honeymoon and this was by far the highlight of our trip! Capt. Danni and her crew (including the professional photographer) were amazing! My family of 6 adults did the Sunset Snorkel dinner cruise with Captain Doug and crew. The crew is the reason for the super awesome experience. We've done snorkel cruises in many different places and this was the best and very classy. The food was good and exceeded our expectation. The rest of my parties went snorkeling but I'm not a strong swimmer so I just floated near the boat and occasionally put my head under water, all of a sudden I see a ton of fish nearby. A crew member saw me by myself and started feeding the fish near me so I get to see the fish!! I was so impressed with the attention! There was a difficult female guest that the crew handled with grace. We saw a ton of dolphins and the snorkelers saw turtles, a ton of fish and even a shark. when they first saw the shark, crew member Tim immediately gathered all the snorkelers together in a safe distance but still able to observe the shark. Took my daughter on the sunset cruise for her 10th birthday! The crew was awesome! They got the whole boat to sing her happy birthday! What a treat! :) The boat is clean, the bathrooms are clean and the food is decent. We saw dolphins and sea turtles. You're in HI, so every view is gorgeous, the waters are warm and beautiful. You can't go wrong taking a tour with Ocean Joy Cruises. Would definitely do again! The will give you a SD card for $40 of photos of the day and some of their best shots; if you let the photographer know you will def be buying the photos they'll go out of their way to get more shots of you!!! I'll give 3.5 or close to 4 stars overall. Cruise was amazing people there all nice and fun. Had so much fun. Food was difficult for me I don't eat meat I eat seafood and they didn't had seafood I ended up eating white rice and greens. If u vegetarian should eat before if not you'll be hungry. Photographer Is really fun nice girl, but we didn't find any good pic so try to take as much as possible ur pic. we heard u get 300 pics so we didn't take pics which was mistake. I didn't like pics and photographer saying u should smile it's vacation ( which I was happy who smiles all the time ).i was so mad. Just this 300 ur pics gonna be just 3-6 pieces so don't trust the photos from here take ur pics.Overall I liked we will come back but next time I'll eat before and take own pics read more

Okay my only complaint is that I took so long to write this and forgot some of the names of the crew. This was THE BEST cruise! We went on 8/7 for my sons 6th birthday. As soon as Captain Jerry found out it was his birthday he wasted no time in making it a memorable one. From letting my son "drive" to having him make the announcements. We didn't get to see any dolphins but we got to check out a couple sea turtles swimming around and other sea life. As someone who hardly gets out in the water I was very happy. The best snorkeling experience! I have been with Ocean Joy twice now. I would give more stars if I could. The crew is awesome. Everything is very organized. Very clean. Food is good. Drinks are good. Equipment is good. Photos are good. Music is good. And they take you to some awesome spots to snorkel. They don't rush this experience. First you go on a nice cruise around the waters and get to see great sights. You snorkel for about an hour. Then go cruising some more while you enjoy food and drinks, as well as a slide show of the photos they take during your cruise. This is a very safe experience. They do a great job of making you feel safe on board and in the water. Great for first-timers and experienced snorkelers. We saw dolphins, turtles, sting rays, tons of fish variety, octopus, lot of really cool stuff to see. 10/10 stars. I recommend them to everyone. read more

I cannot recommend the daytime snorkeling adventure enough. We went on 1/26/17 and it was the most memorable day of our trip to HI by far. The staff was super engaged with guests of all ages, lunch was delicious, and the photographer took amazing pictures. We spotted 2 whales before we set off the snorkel. The safety briefing was very thorough and they had equipment for all sizes. The captain took us to a snorkel location with calm, clear, beautiful blue water. We saw many tropical fish and at least 6 turtles. One of the staff members sat on a surfboard like a lifeguard while we were snorkeling and he let a little girl sit on it with him after she got tired (so sweet). The underwater photos were high quality and I recommend purchasing the flash drive of photos at the end for $40. We told the photographer that we were going to purchase the flash drive at the start of the trip and she got photos of us pretending to drive the boat and plenty of underwater photos. After we snorkeled, the bar opened up and lunch came out shortly after (you can purchase beer at the shop the bus drops you off at but the crew does not serve alcohol until after snorkeling). Lunch was buffet style and the bar served a wide variety of mixed drinks, beer, and nonalcoholic beverages. On our relaxing journey back, we saw another whale and a group of playful dolphins swam along the front of the catamaran for 15 minutes! The catamaran was well maintained with plenty of space on the deck to sunbathe as well as a covered area for those that wanted to stay out of the sun. There were 2 clean bathrooms on board. Pickup and drop off at the Hilton Waikiki was very convenient and they even called the day before to give us specific instructions so there was no confusion the day of. Even the bus driver was amazing, I feel bad I can't remember his name but he served in the navy for many years and he was very passionate about the island and its history. We could tell how much he enjoys his job and cares for our safety. Our snorkeling/dolphin watching did NOT disappoint. We took the earliest tour for clearer water and we got it all!! We saw tons of fish, dolphin (up to our boat) and pilot whales. The staff took great care of us all day in every aspect. We took the morning snorkeling trip. The boat was nice and the crew were friendly and attentive. Snorkeling was fun and the gear was in good shape. Food looked good however I was unable to eat (queasy). There were 49 people on the trip. When booking, contact Ocean Joy directly. Do not book through Snorkel Bob. Their website is misleading. I thought I was booking on a sailboat with less than 20 passengers. The website is outdated. read more
