Winner of the trip for BEST ACTIVITY! This was such a cool experience and definitely one of the most unique things we did in Hawaii this time around. You take a boat out from Waikiki to the submarine and then climb down into the submarine and go underwater. We went more than 100 feet below the surface. And honestly, it was just SO COOL to be sitting in a submarine under the ocean. I've snorkeled and scuba dived before, but this felt completely different. You're actually looking out the windows and watching fish swim by while you're moving along near the ocean floor. We even got to see the artificial reefs and sunken airplanes and ships that have become homes for marine life. The guide was really friendly and pointed out things to look for as we moved along. He also had many, many puns. I also really liked this because you don't have to get in the water. You get the underwater experience without snorkeling, scuba diving, getting covered in sunscreen, or worrying about what you're going to do with your stuff while you're swimming. It felt safe and comfortable and easy. I wasn't expecting this to be my favorite activity of the trip, but it absolutely was. There was something about being under the ocean in a submarine that felt like a real adventure rather than just another tourist activity. read more

We had such a blast on our submarine tour! The crew were all very nice and professional, and the tour guide made great jokes and was very friendly. The ocean was clear and beautiful the day we went. We learned a lot about coral preservation and the animals while on the tour too. I usually do not like close quarters, but I was comfortable the whole time. It's a very roomy submarine. Having been, I feel like everyone should go at least once! We saw lots of different fish, 2 turtles (Timmy and Tina), an eagle ray, and the other side of the sub saw a shark-very cool! read more

SO i'm a little bit embarrassed to write this review, but I must because I was so impressed with the professionalism from all of the staff. If it hadn't been for the care and compassion of Maya, I probably would've cried. I get motion sickness, but my kids were so excited about going on the submarine finally that I took Dramamine and threw caution to the wind. However, after the 15 to 20 minute boat ride over to the submarine, I'm sure my face was green. Although the submarine itself was 10 times more stable and calm and felt like the interior of an airplane, I was very concerned I was going to get sick in front of lots of strangers and had to exit the submarine very quickly. I left my tween kids there to experience the submarine by themselves, which is fine because my oldest son is on two swim Teams and basically a lifeguard. However, the boat had to come back and get me off the top of the submarine and it was very embarrassing and once again, I cannot say enough about how well the staff handled it and didn't make me feel silly. or stupid at all. I even bought some of the photos to laugh about the incident later. We had already gotten the military discount, but they offered to refund my portion of the submarine ride, which I very much appreciated. I would recommend this company to all of my friends. My sons loved seeing the 9 sea turtles & Hawaiian wildlife. read more

I did this excursion 13 years ago. I remember it being fun, but now I have kids. So we decided to go again with friends visiting from out of town. It really was so fun!! We took the first boat out and it was not very crowded. We were able to spread out over several windows. The kids were entranced! They excitedly pointed out huge trevally, sharks, and pretty reef fish. We even saw three graceful spotted eagle rays. This tour has expanded since I went last with a few new sections of artificial reef, which will be amazing in a few years of the ocean taking them over. They have sections of two airplanes which is where we saw the dozing sharks. The best part of course is the two ship wrecks. I've dove these and done the tour. The sub is close enough to enjoy the wreck without being a diver. His diving was really impressive. They gave us plenty of passes to see as much as we could at 100 feet. One of our favorite stops on our visit to Honolulu. Quite pricey but my husband said it was worth it. You get on a shuttle boat and are taken to a small submarine where you can watch the sub surface and be taken underwater to check out the ocean life created by the artificial reefs they built out of boats, a plane and those structures for harvesting seaweed. Pictures can't really do it justice cause of how dark it is but if you're in the area and can afford it, gotta do it at least once. read more

Great excursion! Really enjoyed the submarine cruise, even though I had done it a few times before. For those who have never tried it should give it a shot. The crew were super friendly and helpful in educating riders on the characteristics of the submarine and the underwater cruise path. During our cruise, the submarine was less than half full. The Atlantis submarine tour is an interesting experience and a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. It's not too terribly long, so you'll have plenty of time to do other things with your day after the tour. They take you out to the submarine via a short boat ride and the submarine goes down to about 100ft. You'll see plenty of marine life and some artifacts that they've placed underwater for this tour including sunken boats and an airplane. Both the submarine and the boat ride to the sub were super comfortable and the guide does an excellent job explaining and pointing out the marine life and artifacts. A little pricey for how short the tour is, but overall I would recommend it for the novelty...after all, how often do you get the chance to ride in a submarine and go down 100ft? The shortness of the tour can also be a plus because it gives you the rest of the day to do something else! read more

We really enjoyed the Atlantis submarine! Saw lots of fish around the sunken boats. As stated in previous reviews, the colors are a muted blue when taking pictures as shown in the attached pictures. Crew were very nice. Since I don't anticipate ever going scuba diving, this was the closest option to going deep. I imagine that if we were further out in the ocean then we would have seen more fish. Super friendly & knowledgeable staff & awesome experience for family to see underwater life in a safe environment. We saw plenty of fish, 5 sea turtles, a barracuda, and an eagle ray. Everyone had a seat with great views and the tour was the perfect amount of time. They do sell a $55 photo package at the end of the tour but they were not pushy and were very polite when people declined to purchase photos. We opted to purchase them since they turned out great. We even get digital copies we can download so to me it's a better deal than school photos that are $$$. read more

Despite having everything required to confirm our booking, we were denied entry simply because we didn't have the physical credit card used to book the ride. This was never communicated clearly beforehand -- not in the confirmation email, not in any terms or instructions. What should've been a once-in-a-lifetime, exciting underwater adventure turned into a frustrating, stressful ordeal. Instead of being met with empathy or solutions, we were met with cold, unhelpful staff who rigidly enforced a policy that makes no sense in today's digital world -- especially when the booking and payment were verifiable on the spot. This experience completely ruined our day. We had planned our schedule around this and were left standing on the dock feeling helpless and dismissed. For the price and anticipation, the handling was unacceptable and frankly insulting. I strongly advise looking elsewhere. There are other providers who treat customers with more fairness and professionalism. Based on how we were treated, I can't give more than 1 star -- and even that feels generous. read more

A great and easy experience that will satisfy your inner Jules Verne This trip was a perfect mini excursion. A short, scenic boat ride takes you out to the submarine. The sub itself was very roomy. We were told that it's the world's larger passenger sub: with windows all round and a roomy interior, it almost seemed like a Disney ride. The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. We saw wonderful man-made wrecks and underwater structures that hosted a variety of life. And the whole experience felt like quite the adventure. Only negative: They do try to upsell an overpriced photo at the end of the- which soured it a bit. $54 for an impromptu posed photo is a bit much. They'd probably sell more if they dropped the price to something reasonable. Other than that it was a great experience. I especially loved how eco-minded the outfit was. The sub is battery and air powered. The wrecks are prepped and placed to remove harmful materials and protect the reef life. A unique and memorable experience! Our team went on the submarine tour today for a work team building activity and it turned out to be such a fun and unforgettable experience. The crew was incredible from start to finish. Matt, the naturalist, dropped some serious knowledge about the marine life we saw. His dad jokes and puns were top tier and made the whole tour even more entertaining. Maile, one of the captains (I think??), did an amazing job guiding the boat out to meet the submarine and kept everything running smoothly. Pamela, the photographer, captured our group perfectly and made the photo session feel effortless. She's SUPER talented, friendly, and has such a great eye for getting the best shots. Love her!!! There was also one crew member whose name I didn't catch, but he gave me a high five after I sprinted across the sand to make it onboard. He was so encouraging and didn't make me feel bad for being the last one to board, which I really appreciated. Everything from check in to boarding was seamless, and the entire team made sure everyone had a great time. Getting to see the underwater world up close was absolutely fascinating. Fun and educational! This is a pretty rare experience. We went down 107 feet. If you do not like small enclosed spaces, this is NOT for you. We (family of 4) did the 11 am Thursday tour. The ferry ride was a little rough, but the submarine ride is very smooth. On the ferry you get the best views of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. You can see fish, turtles and sharks, but its not like snorkeling. The colors are not bright a beautiful. All your pictures will come out blue. Be sure to book a head of time if you want to do this activity during a touristy time. read more

It's an interesting experience to try once especially since this is the largest public carrier submarine. It'll take you down to 100 feet deep across some artificial and natural coral reefs. There will be a decent amount of fish and we even saw a small shark briefly. The reason I rated as three stars is because the submarine itself got a bit repetitive and boring and there wasn't as much fish as expected. Also visibility is quite low down there even during a nice sunny day. The boat ride was nice but it was very shaky and nauseating. The entire process from in-processing, crew courtesy, camaraderie, comfortability, was just spot on. Water clarity is something they can't control but the captain speaks you through everything, literally every step of the way. Had a great experience with Atlantis Adventures Submarines! I was looking up things to do with a few free hours in the am and stumbled upon this roughly 2 hour excursion - which was perfect for me. I booked online and it was hassle free. Check in is at a a little booth on the beach at the Hilton near the pier. The guys at check in told me to watch for turtles as they frequently swim near the pier and sure enough - I saw two. When you get to the pier they offer to take your picture but I declined since I was solo on this adventure. You take a roughly 20 min ride to the submarine and we managed to see a couple mama humpbacks and their calves. We also saw a pod of about 150 dolphins and had great views of Diamond Head. It's kinda cool getting to see all those things on top of the sub tour! (And I didn't have to pay for a separate whale watching excursion!) The climb down into the sub is very steep (as others have mentioned). If you have mobility issues this may not be the best option. Our sub was only about 1/3 full so we had space to spread out. The guide was knowledgeable and funny. She was constantly on the lookout for different species under the water and pointing them out and giving fun facts. The water was clear and visibility was high. Among many varieties of fish we also saw an eel, sting ray, a turtle eating algae on one of the structures and a white tip shark. It's pricey - at $149 after tax per adult, so just an FYI. It's one of those fun things to do once. read more

One of the more unique experiences to do in Honolulu, Atlantis Submarines definitely was one of my favorite activities. If you know how to swim, I suggest you experience the sea life yourself by snorkeling, but if you're like me who's with elderly folks, then this is a good alternative. We start off by riding a boat to the submarines off the coast. The boat ride was beautiful! You will have a nice view of the Waikiki coast and Diamond Head and breathe that cool, refreshing Pacific breeze. You will then transfer to the submarines with the help of the crew. While submerging into the bottom of the ocean, you may feel a little seasick, but once at the bottom, you won't really feel anything anymore. The tour was enjoyable and educational. You will see an abundance of fish, sometimes even a shark, but don't expect a very lively coral life. There's a shipwreck and other monuments there and I believe that marine biologists are currently studying the lives of coral life, which makes up most of the tour. This is a very family-friendly adventure and I'm sure you'd appreciate your experience there. read more

Suitable for all ages as long as you can climb up and down submarine's stairs/ladder. They claim this is the world's largest hi-tech 64-passenger submarine . The windows are very large so you can see the fish, sea turtles, sting rays , coral, sunken ships, sunken airplanes and more... It's a large production. "H A W A I I ..... there is no other place like these islands..." by Ana Vee kept playing in my head as we rode the boat that took us to the submarine! Wow how beautiful, the scenery, water and views just take your breath away! What an experience to at least do once! Now first of all I get very nauseous!!! Like I get nauseous scrolling through my phone too quick! I did take some medicine and so glad I did!! Made me really enjoy everything! Now it is pricey but like i said to do it at least once is worth it! We bought our tickets through the MRI at the Nex for Military and Vet discounts which is the better deal. My family enjoyed it very much and my kids were so relaxed by it all that they almost fell asleep on the way home. They said that it was just so peaceful! The girlfriend and I took some visitors from Japan on the submarine tour. It's something they wanted to do while here. We parked our car and proceeded to head to the tent where we had to check in (it takes about 10min so make sure if you're driving, a lot yourself a little time). It was nice that Atlantis does a validation $4 for 4hrs (bring a credit card. They do not take cash). As the time got close, we headed down the dock to the waiting boat which will take us out to the submarine. The boat ride was nice. Clear water, and the top deck is covered. As we reached the sub, we got to see it "breach" which was cool. We all boarded the submarine and we're seated. It was quite roomy and the seating was back to back so everyone on board would be able to see out of one of the many windows. They took us around and we got to see a lot of underwater life. They had many man made structures where reef fish would gather. Our underwater adventure lasted about 40-50min. Overall, our experience was good. The staff was very friendly and informative, and the it's a great way to see and learn about some of the underwater life around the islands. Tip: if you have a hard time with mobility, you may reconsider. You will need to board the boat as well as the submarine which is similar to a ladder. Tip: no cash for variates parking (so it comes out to $4.19). BUT, that gives you at least a couple hours after to grab a bite or do a little shopping. read more

Great experience all the way from the checkin to the submarine ride and back. We were staying in the Hilton Village and thus getting to the dock where we had to get on a boat to get to the submarine wasn't an issue. Especially staying in the rainbow tower helped :). Anyways, got to the boat, checked in and the boat was getting ready to take us to the point where the submarine pops out of the ocean and then we get to board the same. Did reach the spot after a 10-15 min boat ride and saw a pod of dolphins on the way as well ( that sighting was free and not charged for :) ). Once the submarine was tied to the boat , people started Onboarding it and right when we were stepping in, one of the passengers came out of the sub stating he felt too claustrophobic and hd to be guided back to the boat. Once we climbed down into the sub, ( didn't feel claustrophobic at all, pretty nicely spaced out) , within a few minutes we were ready to take the plunge. The crew started talking to the audience in there and described the life and everything that we saw on the way along the descent. Got to see a lot of man made reefs, water life and a few crash sites as well. Going all the way down to 100 ft , and observing the surroundings with a naked eye, was one of a kind experience. Wow what a great experience. It was a blast riding out to the sub. We saw turtles popping up to say hi and dolphins playing in the waves. Once we got into the sub there was even more to see. So many fish! We had a giant eel make an appearance, a few turtles and a shark. The guides were very friendly and entertaining. Also for those going on a date don't forget to kiss you sweetheart, it will be the "deepest" kiss they will ever get! On a side note if the views are terrible (because hey Mother Nature happens) they will let you come back the next day. We had a whole group on our tour that were repeats because the weather made the views non-existent on their first tour. It's nice to know that they want everyone to have a good time. We took the little one on a submarine ride and she loved it. You check in on land, they transport you to the submarine via a boat, then board the sub and the tour lasts about an hour. We saw various fish and turtles, as well as a sunken plane and boat. It is not particularly inexpensive but it's a fun experience for kids and adults who have never been on a sub before. This was my second time so I was paying more attention to ensuring my children enjoying the ride and taking notes for this review instead of being amazed by the views under the sea . You'll board a 2-deck water shuttle (with bathrooms and a little store) from a pier located at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Resort, where you're taken a picture by THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHER I'VE EVER MET IN ALL MY TRAVELS, a middle aged charismatic and energetic, perfectionist asian gentleman going by the name of Weijong (That is according to Captain Elise, apologies if I didn't get your name right Sir!). After he takes the pictures with Diamond Head in the back, you won't have an issue paying $55 USD for them, I promise you! You'll travel in THE LARGEST COMMERCIAL SUBMARINE IN THE WORLD , with air conditioning and you'll be able to bring snacks, drinks (No bathrooms though) and take all the pictures and videos you want. You'll see a ship sunk under the ocean as well as sharks and many other fish , of course... Since fish are not on payroll, you may see more or less. In my experience, we got to see sharks two out of two times in the middle of July . Although Mr. Weijong was outstanding we recognized that the rest of the crew did a great work, from giving everyone clear instructions, being polite, funny, and super kind and helpful during the trip... You check in for this attraction at the pier behind the Hawaiian village. They offer transportation from local Waikiki hotels or they can validate parking (will cost $10). You take a boat from there two your submarines launch site. You can either ride the regular sub or larger sub. I recommend paying the extra and getting the larger sub. They often have Groupons available that can save you a few bucks. Be warned, they take the typical tourist souvenir photos at the pier that you can purchase after your sub ride. They were a bit pricey so I opted not to even take the photo. The ferry has bathrooms, a gift shop and snacks and it takes about a 7 minutes to get to the launch site. The entire staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They were awesome. The seats on the subs all face out so there is no bad views. They do 2 passes on the underwater sites so that both the port and starboard side can see. You do however have to go up and down a ships ladder, which may be challenging for some. The underwater portion is between 30 minutes to an hour. You see artificial reefs, ship wrecks and plane wrecks. We saw a ton of puffer fish and turtles at the reefs. This is a unique experience that I am glad that I had the opportunity to take advantage of. read more

It took us about 45 minutes to drive to Honolulu from our hotel and to check in at the Atlantis kiosk. From there, it was a short walk to the dock where pictures were taken and where we waited for our boat. During the wait, we enjoyed the beautiful ocean views and quick sightings of sea turtles. The boat ride out to the submarine took about 20 minutes and at the time, was quite choppy. If you are someone who gets seasick...this may not be the adventure for you. The coolest part of this tour, for me, was standing on top of the submarine as we ready to board. How often can people say they've been on top of a submarine! Besides that though, the ocean and skyline was breathtaking. The submarine descended to about 100 feet. We were able to see artificial reefs and the many aquatic life it supported. Our guide was informative and we loved learning some island history. This tour makes you appreciate their conservation efforts. A portion of your ticket price goes towards this effort which makes it worth while. read more

The last time I went on Atlantis was back in middle school. I forgot what a great experience it was. I came here for a birthday party and the crew were so gracious and prompt to greet us (at 7:30 am). I gave them a lot of credit coming to serve us at this time. The crew had a great attitude and was very attentive to the guests on the boat. There's many picture taking opportunities of Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head and Ewa side. I enjoyed the ride to the submarine, but if you get motion sickness then I suggest taking some medicine before coming onboard. The submarine adventure was awesome. We saw different types of fish (large and small), seaweed, and turtles. It's a great educational tour of marine life. Many structures were placed there for scientific purposes. Taking pictures in the submarine was difficult and I wasn't happy with the pictures that were taken. But the memories and mental photographs I have are priceless. Highly recommend!! read more
